----- Concise Review Great burgers and fries and fried pickles and bacon on top; Corey a great help with our order. ----- Longer Review We traveled to South Tamworth, New Hampshire, by way of Boston, MA and then North Conway, NH, for the wedding of our niece to her husband. The trip was brief - Thursday evening to Sunday, but filled with family, fun, and some exploring. On Friday we explored Boston, focusing mostly on the Freedom Trail. We intended to travel, all four of us together... before our son set his freshman year in college courses. With Friday classes he didn't want to skip, so we arrived Thursday and he joined us on Friday. Given the flight time, we expected he'd be hungry when he landed. The Omni Hotel was helpful... their kitchen closed a little early... the French dip was tempting but would have been cold once our son landed ~ 11pm. The Omni pointed us to Beantown Pub. I walked over early to plan... the traffic on the street was heavy for a Friday night and we didn't want to be late... and we didn't know the streets. I found Corey who helped me determine when to leave to get to the airport, and to get the order before then... and a little bit later Corey got the burger and fries for us and we were on our way. Corey's directions were HELPFUL and got us to our son, at Logan Airport, on time... the food was still warm, and good... though, sadly, he was so hungry there wasn't even a single bite of the prime rib + chuck burger for me... c'est la vie... at least I got some of the fried pickles and bacon slides and a couple fries - all good. Ugh. What's up with restaurants in Boston not staying open late on a Saturday night and/or stopping food service early? And that's how we wound up here. They have a late night menu. It's an insanely crowded and rowdy bar with mostly young kids. Definitely not our scene. The table service was incredibly slow and it was difficult to get the attention of our server. And the food wasn't even that good. It's fine for the pub food that it is. But it's basic crap any kitchen can turn out. And definitely don't ask for anything extra, like a sauce or a lemon wedge. You won't get it. In fact, you'll be forgotten about until you flag down your server because you don't want to ditch and dine. It was so incredibly packed that I skipped trying to make my way to the bathroom. Icky, sticky, and waaaay toooo many people. read more

We stopped on the Beantown Pub on a recommendation from my friend who visited Boston just before we were here. I would wholeheartedly agree with her recommendation! This was right across the street from the graveyard where many famous Bostians are buried (Samuel Adam's, Paul Revere, and Mother Goose). We went in just before dinner time and we're still able to get a seat right away. The server was quick to take our order and in the time we were there they switched shifts and the next waitress was just as attentive. The food was incredible! I had the Fenway Franks which made me feel like I was at a ballpark. My husband had the Fish and Chips and he said it was the freshest fish he's ever had. I ordered The Judy as my first drink and it was basically just vodka with a hint of lemonade so only order if you are feeling brave. They had pool tables and giant projectors playing sports so we ended up just sitting and hanging out for hours. I am going to thank my friend and recommend this as a dinner option for anyone visiting Boston! read more

I love old pubs but this place was super dirty, my beer glass was dirty, and the bartender wasn't pleasant. Staff was cursing and talking about patrons in front of us, one of the bartenders was loudly complaining about having to make a drink that was ordered. I then watched her dig something out of the glass she prepared before serving it. Possibly an off day, but I definitely wouldn't recommend if you're traveling. Mixed review: Service was disappointing. Our table (not in the bar, but within sight of the bar) was covered by the bartender. I could see him chatting it up with the bar customers, but our table seemed like an after-thought. His plopping down of the menus and then immediately walking away (without a greeting) was a rude way to begin, and there was little attempt to engage with our family. Visits to check up on us were few. The cleanliness was questionable, starting with the dirty and sticky menus. My son's sprite (ordered with no ice) was disgusting looking - there was a cloudiness to it and a few small bits of paper on the top. The bathroom does not offer paper towels, requiring you to turn a knob/handle with your bare hand (and we all know how many people don't wash their hands). We saw employees come out of that bathroom. I hope they are washing their hands again after using that door. Prices varied between fair and a bit high, but not unreasonably so given the touristy area. The food quality is good but nothing special. For example, "The Big Cheese" might have been a thick grilled cheese with a "wow" factor given the name, but it is just a simple little grilled cheese sandwich. A mac & cheese bowl and vegan sandwich were liked, and the fries were just OK. Overall, the pub did the job of feeding us without making much of an attempt to impress us. read more

I stayed at the OMNI Parker House. One full week. Work trip. I had so much fun at Beantown Pub. We would stop in after work before going out. Then sometimes grab a nightcap on the way home. I tried many appetizers and entrees. All were great. Lobster roll. Chili. Pickles. Shrimp. The only item I did not enjoy was the popcorn chicken. Too dry. Didn't appear to be brined. Oh! I had the steak tips with broccoli and mashed potatoes based on the server's suggestion. Might have been my favorite meal in Boston. I had the lobster grilled cheese as well. I did not think it was going to be so good. It was amazing. Servers are friendly. Service is fast. They have a bouncer there keeping things cool. Three pool tables. Was easy to snag a pool table almost every time we went. Always a few seats at the bar and tables in the back. Typically packed but never "too" full. I probably was there a dozen times in those seven days. All told, had a blast here. Many laughs with my boss and coworker. They have a jukebox too where you can select songs. Just don't sing "too" loud or you may be asked to quite down. My fault. Looking forward to being back. We joked about not being able to return to Beantown during our flights home. Highly recommend. Our first hour in Boston and we found this gem. Great food and atmosphere! The paul revere sandwich was fantastic.

By far the best wings I have ever had. Def jumbo wings worth the 21.00 for the dozen. My wife had the chicken sandwich with a honey glaze. Small area to sit outside. Great service. read more

Went here the day before st. Patrick's day, got one round of beers, went outside. When we tried to go back in they said we were all too drunk to go back in. Bouncers were not nice at all. Kept letting very drunk people in. Also kept yelling at a homeless man who was just trying to walk down the street. Food was not good either. read more

I wish I could give this place a better rating because the food is decent but it's always a long wait and not very clean. Every time I come in I'm sort of surprised by the smell and appearance of the rug. It really needs a freshening up. Anyways I always get the turkey burger. It's pretty good. It's one of the few turkey burgers I've ever liked. My secret to getting it is asking for the chipotle mayo they have on it, and on the side for dipping and fries. The fiancée and I were looking for a quick bite to eat late Friday night after a long day of exploring Boston. We settled on this spot after yelping restaurants close to our hotel and it was what we expected from a pub. Good ambiance, food was good, the server was attentive to what we needed. This is a good place to catch a game as there are TV's throughout the place. There are also pool tables if you're in the mood to shoot a couple rounds of pool. Pretty good place for a late night meal and alcohol. read more

Beantown is a wonderful bar! It is a laid back establishment that has pool tables, good food and great drinks! The service is attentive and always kind. Came here to watch the Patriots vs chiefs playoff game 2019.... Service was great, lobster roll was good, apple cider was delicious, and the beer was nice and cold. With all the fun banter between fans, the lobster roll was cold and reminded me of a crab Louie salad flavor and was decent, but for $19 I would have gone for a roll from Pauli's from the north end (although the roll from here is slightly bigger and comes with a lot of fries and coleslaw (which I didn't even eat). The food is incredible. I got the Paul Revere, and it's great, but the 30 minute wait before receiving our food time in an empty restaurant and the price don't quite compromise for it. The restaurant is really big but also appears extremely empty as a result, so it's pretty quiet and kinda nice at lunchtime. read more

I had some time to kill, so I thought I would watch the Bruins game before going to a concert at the Orpheum. I ordered an espresso martini from Katherine (I really hope I'm remembering her name correctly) and it was the BEST espresso martini I have ever had. If you look at my Yelp, you know that I am a connoisseur of cocktails. I don't mess around. I will pay $20 for a well mixed drink and not bat an eye. This was legit amazing. Just the right amount of sweet to booze ratio. I literally called her over to tell her how good the drink was. YUM! I was going to stay for more drinks, but found out that some of my friends were at a bar nearby, so I left to go be social. I need to find out Katherine's schedule 'cause momma needs some more espresso martinis like that! read more

A decent lunch today at Beantown, we were there during the busier part of the lunch hour. There weren't any tables open in the front, so we were directed to one in the back by the pool tables. Service here was slow to start - we had to get the bartender's attention - but it warmed up well. I chose the barbecue pork sandwich. A decent pulled pork that was cooked nicely but maybe this wasn't the best piece of it. Some was very tasty and other bits were crunchy. Good flavor and plenty of sauce, cheese and cole slaw on the sandwich though. The potato salad I chose with it was nicely prepared chunked red skin-on potatoes but it was a bit bland. A shake of salt and a shake of pepper helped. Maybe a pulled pork sandwich in Boston is the wrong choice? read more

Fish and chips with no tartar sauce, a chicken sandwich with nothing on the bun... no mayo, just fried fried chicken on a bun with lettuce. Don't bother asking for ketchup, because they won't give it to you. Beans were meh. I'm a simple man who had a simple dream, and that dream was to enjoy some fish n' chips in Boston. I was walking down the street and figured the Beantown Pub would be a fine place to pick something up from. This place has real Boston pub vibes so I sat at the bar and ordered my food for takeout. The staff was super super friendly and extremely fast at getting my order of fish n' chips done so big kudos to the team for that, I barely had time to finish my ginger ale. I ended up heading back next door to my hotel to eat the food and that's where my disappointment came in. What was my issue? The breading on the fish n' chips was absolutely dreadful, and that's a complaint I have never made before regarding fish n' chips. I can't put my finger on what the issue was, but something about the taste was just funky and it just did not taste good. The French fries on the side however, were alright and I did get to finish those off finger full. Overall, this place had excellent service which is generally what the stars are for, because the food was terrible. Maybe it's a different kind of fish n' chips that I'm just not used too, but I would recommend going anywhere else if that's what you are looking for. read more

Cool local pub. Ben made our visit quite pleasurable. We never had an empty glass and I enjoyed a bubblegum shot which was quite good.

Good bar in a good location right across from the cemetery with all the famous bostonians are buried. Good prices but the mens room is too small with only 2-3 urinals with no dividers so its easy to piss on your neighbors shoes. But it still is a good bar especially for day drinking while doing tourist shit. read more
