Homemade Chili
Kyra M.

Great standard American bar/restaurant. Great spot to watch football there are lots of TVs, pool tables and a whole back section. Very large bar for the area. Food was very good, I got the chili and it had a small kick but great flavor. Our server was super fast. We had a large group of 10, she got everything right and brought us our drinks really fast and made sure to keep coming back for refills.

Chicken Tender Platter

I have been here several times and it's always been a great! When you walk in you definitely get that pub feel and there is so much space! A huge bar, lots of tables and seats as well as a pool table area are what await you when you walk in. The food has always been excellent! It's a great combination of different American classics from chicken to burgers to sandwiches. This visit, I ordered the Beantown Burger while my husband got the Chicken Tender Platter. The burger was cooked very well and their savory house sauce gave it a very nice flavor. My husband says his chicken tasted very nice with the spicy sauce he had it tossed with. They both came with French fries which were nice and crispy and seasoned well. The portions are great and the food came out quickly. The waitresses were also very friendly and made sure to come check on us often. Thank you to all the staff for a great meal and experience!

Their website says it's the only place you can drink a cold Sam Adams by a cold Sam Adams and I think that's hilarious. Had to come, of course! It's right off the Commons so it's an easy location. Service was good. It's a seat yourself type of place. My burger was phenomenal but ironically, the Beantown beans were not good in my opinion. They tasted old for lack of a better explanation? I'm from the South so I've had my fair share of baked beans and these were not it. Just don't order them and you'll love the food here- like I said, the burger was fab. Not sure if there's AC - it's not cold but it's not as hot as outside so do with that what you will. Prices are average, maybe even better than average depending on where you are in Boston.

Jumbo lobster roll w double lobster. Yum!

This place is the bomb. Not only three pool tables, but crazy jumbo lobster roll and can double lobster for almost nothing. Staff are so joyous. Good place. Highly recommend.

Vegetable Stir Fry

So for a pub my expectations weren't very high but this was a gem. Getting served was a little confusing but once my server knew I wanted to order she was very friendly. Surprised by how many vegetarian options they had! The stir fry was steaming when it made it to me. They had a large selection of alcoholic beverages. My only complaint is I really wanted a slice of pie but the kitchen closed before I could order! As the other review had said. Have a cold Sam Adam's while staring at cold Sam Adam.

Boneless Buffalo Title-Town Wings

Good food, with good beer there's not much else I can ask for out of a pub. Beantown is the place to go if all you really want is an iconic Boston bar where you can play pool and get a drink. On my most recent visit to Beantown I got the boneless Buffalo wings and my boyfriend got the BLT. The food was good and exactly what you would expect for bar food. It's nothing special but still hits the spot.

Lobster Tacos (3)

Being a tourist in the city this place was a must. We were certain the drinks would be cold but just hopeful the food would be good. The food was good! I had the lobster tacos but really like the tater kegs appetizer the best. The food did seem a bit overpriced though. Service was decent but it was starting to get busy and seemed like there weren't enough waiters. The inside was kinda cramped too.

Clam chowder

Stopped to eat while walking the Freedom Trail. Great stop to people watch and enjoyed the "historic" ambiance. Friendly service and decent bar food. Wings and clam chowder were delicious. Drank a cold Sam Adams while across the street lays a cold Sam Adams in the Granary Burying Ground.

Nachos and giant bowl of guacamole

Stopped in for dinner and had lobster Mac and cheese and the nachos with guacamole. So delicious and the bartender kept the ice cold beers coming. Great atmosphere and great service!

Nothing crazy special here - decent enough variety of beers, super close proximity to The Orpheus concert venue where we were headed later that night. Took awhile to check out which sucked because we were in a bit of a rush. Very old-school divey bar with what appeared to be some decent food options too? Not enough TVs for sports broadcasts i.e. college football Saturday.

What a great place to eat at and to people watch. We were greeted when we entered and served right away. The lobster rolls are amazing and let's not forget that kind of chowder delicious I believe it's worth the. stop.

Tho I've never really liked full size burgers so always been a slider fan. Damn. Let me repeat, damn. Again, damn. Super simple but so so juicy and whatever sauce they are saucing on it? My mouth waters at the memory. They are decent sized and you get 4, plus a massive tower of also very good onion rings. The onion rings were good no complaints but after the sliders nothing was going to compare so I kind of forgot any opinions I had on them. Inside is cozy, staff are fun and great, reasonable prices and good vibes anytime I've gone in. And I'll be going in again soon bc damn. Place was not super busy and our server Izzy was on it...she seated us immediately and took our drink and food orders. We snacked on spinach dip which was pretty filling and ordered some cups of clam chowda! The chef put some southwestern flavor which I thought was fabulous, since we are from TX! We finished by ordering the plate of sliders and by far, the best pub sliders I have ever had! Everything we ate was amazing. Izzy was energetic and never let our glasses go empty! The building was historic and it felt like you walked back in time! We would go back in heart beat for sure!

I love the attention to detail this place puts regarding its decorative wood around the bar, the lighting, life music, and more. Great place to have a drink. We kept trying to make eye contact, but it didn't work~eventually we had to wave someone down. Even then, the response from the bar felt like it was an inconvenience just to send our server over. That said, the food was mostly good. The bangers & mash and the burger were spot on. However, the "Taste of Ireland" pies were disappointing~2 in particular missed the mark. The shepherd's pie had no mince (just potatoes and peas), & the Guinness pie was more like a beef stew than a proper pie. Overall, some strong dishes, but the service and a few key items would make me hesitate to return.

I ordered the blackened chicken quesadilla and immediately understood why people write emotional support reviews on Yelp. Perfectly spicy, ridiculously cheesy, and so good I started eating faster in case someone at the table got "just a little taste" ideas. My wife got the fish & chips, which arrived looking like it belonged in a food commercial. Crispy, flaky fish, perfectly crunchy fries, and somehow not greasy at all -- basically the unicorn of fish & chips. My only regret is that we are in town for only a few days so we won't be able to return to 5 Horses Tavern until our next trip. If you leave hungry, that's on you.

The server was very knowledgeable and attentive. The tacos were pretty good, but if you're a taco maven, don't get them. To be honest, the fish taco had too much Mayo/sauce on it. They each came with two corn tortillas, which were a little stuck together as if microwaved. It was definitely my mistake because they are definitely not a Mexican restaurant. I would be interested in their salmon dish, as well as their bowls. Four stars for good options (gf included), good portion size, and good vibes. Will definitely be returning to try more!
