Hey! When you're here with your rowdy co-workers, drinks are flowing and the food is decent this place is great! The place is somewhat large and offers different types of seating. There are pool tables in the back if you feel inclined to play and the food is pretty good. I went for a co-workers going away party and we had fun. The servers were attentive, the food didn't take too long and we had fun. I'd recommend if your looking for a no frills place to chill downtown. Cheers! read more

I haven't felt so passionate about writing a one-star review in quite some time. Congrats Beantown Pub - you've made me never want to set foot in your doors again. It started after a long night of grad school. Me and my man found ourselves in the Park street area, hungry and unable to get a table at Silvertone (which we love). Thus..we wandered into the closest establishment..the unfortunate Beantown. One step inside the door and I could tell it wasn't going to offer very much. My date, however, was mesmerized with the plethera of tv screens showing the Celtics first game of the season so I played along. The menu is straight up bar food - but not the good bar food that you find at most of Boston's gastro pubs. No, this is more like crappy-pub-in-grand-central-station type food. Overpriced and lacking in taste. I got the hummus which was described as "my mom's best hummus" but it was more like an oily bowl of flavorless chickpea pudding. My date had the chili with was essentially dry ground beef in a bowl with cheese melted on top. The only saving grace was pumpkin beer, which actually wasn't very pumpkin-like - but it got me drunk enough to stop thinking about my gross food. Needless to say, this Beantown Betty won't be going back. read more

It's nice when the bartender can quit texting long enough to take your order. I actually like the layout in the Beantown Pub, and the crowd is generally a good mix of tourists, students, and people who work around there. The beer selection is poor... Sam Adams is about the most unique thing you'll find. read more

We found a great place to play pool on a busy Friday night while visiting Boston. Two lawyers asked us to play doubles and we had a great time. Good draft beer selection and good service - but I have to say the boneless chicken wings we ordered were cold and disgusting - like something out of the freezer! I would definitely go again when we are in town again but NOT for the food : p read more

Pro: line shorter than high ball. No cover. Cons: beer was flat. :-( ordered Tom Collins and a poorly prepared gin and tonic came out. Slow service. Horrendous bathrooms. read more

We were basically told to leave by the door-jerk as 3 of us were chatting by the bar and were not perfectly single-file (in theory I suppose we were obstructing some imaginary pathway by drinking at the bar?).... forgive me but this is supposed to be a public house. A gathering place. Rediculous. Get your act together whoever owns or runs this place and control your staff!! Power-trip much. Never again stepping foot in this place read more

Solidly a 2.5-3 star place. Had the lobster roll and a Sam Adams. Everything was edible. Keep walking.

Had to wait 10 minutes after getting seated to order. Waitress was not friendly or interested in taking our order. Never came back after we received our food. Both orders were off. Hostess overheard loudly complaining about hangover on Christmas with coworkers. Food decent and neat pub. If had employees that cared at all it would help. read more

Well, I got to tell you, very disappointed! Went in there on a Sunday with the family to watch the game, have a couple apps and have some beers. Walked in, no one acknowledged us.....and it wasn't packed btw. So we sat down in a spot in the back before the pool tables. A waiter said that's only for a 5 top, so suggested we move to the back. So we sat across from the pool tables and waited for a staff member. No such luck. The wife flagged down one, and she said to move to the very back which faces the road...well, no one was there, just us. We again sat there for a few minutes, and now one came to help us. Interesting, we went down the street and spent about $60 bucks and tipped over 25%. If you're the owner or manager reading this, DO SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE with this review. read more

Great place to grab a beer with a friend afterwork and snack on some apps while catching a game on the TV's. We also use this place as our meeting spot for some grubs and beers before concerts at the Orpheum. They have some pool tables in the back if you are interested. read more

went here late on a friday (11ish) to meet up with a group. the bar wasnt that crowded so we snagged a table int the empty back room (behind the pool tables). the service was good - a little businesslike, but nothing wrong with that. they music was ignorable (hootie when i left) and the drinks were your average drinks. beers, soda, etc. it had a convenient location - good for a drink after a movie. read more

What is up with the lack of good (read: clean, efficient, cheap, laid-back) bars & pubs in the general Park Street T area? Beantown Pub picks up a good bit of the yuppie after-work crowd from the Financial District -- and why? Because there is literally noplace else to go. Sure, it has pool tables. So what? Their food is disgusting -- think moldy bread, tasteless deli meats, and fried crap. Their drinks are either weak (hard alcohol) or flat (beer). And their service? Bad. Restauranteurs of Boston, please open a kickass pub where I can buy $3 pitchers apres work in a fun and comfortable environment. read more

When you first go in here (at least on a Saturday night) it seems impossibly crowded. Then you wander towards the back and find out that there is a huge room with pool tables! And suddenly this place becomes much more enjoyable. So make sure to venture towards the back! The crowd is the standard mix of 20 somethings. The alcohols are standard, fairly priced considering the location. And if you aren't happy, just walk out the door and pick a different bar. Also, the close location to Park St means you don't have to scramble for the early T. So really, you have nothing to lose. read more

I got really drunk sitting here. I think it is nice they serve food pretty late. Now that I think back, it was kind of a smelly pub. The coolest thing about this pub is the text machine on the wall. Text it and your message will display for all to see! read more

i came here after work around 5ish ..in searching for some happy hour places, but somehow landed here because we saw that they had some specials. When we first arrived, the placed looked dark and it was hot and muggy. *shrugg*. But then later on they decided to turn on the AC . So anyways, i was actually going for the steak tips, but i saw the BBQ combo so i got that instead. It came with grilled chicken and 3 giant chunks of steak tips both drenched in a tangy bbq sauce. It wasnt anything special neither..although, the combo did came with Fries and Cole Slaw. I liked the fries alot , it was really crispy on the outside and soft inside. I rather go somewhere else for steak tips. read more

Since I wrote my last review, I've had my first child, so I no longer can meet my friends at Beantown. Sure, sure, I'm sure that strictly-21+ is a feature to some (though it seems odd for a pub-style restaurant a stone's throw from Boston Common and I insist the kid's no more rowdy than the average Beantown patron). But I think it's obvious no one benefits from that being a surprise, and their website and Facebook page say nothing about that policy at all. read more

Came here to catch the end of a Bruins game only to be disappointed, not only with the game, but also with the food and service. Ordered some beers, nachos, wings, and their famous burger. Food came out at a decent time, but we had to ask multiple times for waters. The nachos were soggy and sopping with what tasted like canned tomatoes. The wings were unappetizing and we received bbq rather than honey buffalo. My boyfriend said the burger was just okay. Overall a terrible experience. read more

Touristy and okay food. Grabbed lunch here and ordered the fish and chips. The fish could have been cooked a little longer. The batter was under done but the beer was cold. Okay place for a quick bite but don't expect much. Typical bar and grill place to eat. read more

This place is ok. The space in the back with all the pool tables is fairly large and the bar is a pretty good setup. I do like the location, but it's nothing more than a stopping point on the way to bigger and better things. read more

Not at all a place i would consider great food or even good,Had the fried calamari that tasted like fried flour balls it was horrible also had a mixed green salad which was the high light of the meal it was fresh but lacked veggies just overall a medocre meal dont think i would retur to eat probably just a drink or two read more

Horrible food I got the nachos, they use canned salsa.... Music was too loud and inappropriate Waitress was not respectful when a patron asked to turn the volume down. Not what I was expecting for Sunday lunch Service was average, our waitress disappeared once we had our food. Locations cool, I would recommend only coming here to have a beer with Sam Adams. Don't expect much. read more

I'm surprised to see all the bad reviews of this place. I used to go there often for lunch with coworkers when I worked down the street. It was a great lunch pub - TV's - but not too loud or overpowering. Their burgers are great, and I love the crispy skin on their fries. I've also had several of their sandwiches and salads. I would note that their salads are generally basic iceberg lettuce or pre-made lettuce mix - not great there. But if you get it with the Steak tips, those make up for it. Their prices are average, and they have a good selection of beers. My friends and I like going after-hours for pool and the guys' favorite - Golden Tee. Nice crowd of 20-30-somethings. read more

I stay at the Nine Zero hotel frequently, this place has never disappointed. Drinks are priced right for the area and pools table are always available. Have had many a good nights here. read more

Easy quick stop for a beer. Can be tight for space, service was good. Cant say we had anything special but nothing bad here either. We would go back to have a beer. Bartenders seemed friendly and fast. These are a good 3 stars of nothing bad, good stop. Just didn't have anything for us the resonated special. read more

It is always hard to write a review that's negative, but when it comes to an establishment that serves food, which can harm people if done/handled incorrectly, it should be known. Not clean. Will not go into details but if you dont believe me, do the following: take a walk on the carpet where the billiards sit, and well, your shoes might get stuck to the floor. It may be a high traffic area but renovate - change out the carpet for hardwood floor or something. I hate carpets where there is food. Carpets also soak up aromas, that is why they are bad for restaurants who mean business. Need I say more? read more

If you go to Boston and are looking for the best lobster roll please go to Bean Town Pub. I'm from Atlanta and dream about when I can come back and have one. We had two on our last trip. One first thing when we came in and then on our way to airport as we were leaving. Not a lot of tourist know about this place but the locals sure do and that's when you know it must be good. I've never had anything other than lobster but the other food items look great as well. read more

I think this is the best bar in Boston. It has everything here. Good food, reasonable prices, plenty of space, plenty of entertainment from big screens to pool tables. It is a great place to blow off steam after work. It undoubtedly has good times with good people and good service. They also keep out the bad elements and they keep this place fun. But the best aspect of this place is the location. Like they say, it is location, location, location. You are not too far from Boston Common, Loews cinemas, other bars along union street if you want to barcrawl and downtown crossing with all of the restaurants and sandwhich shops nearby. I recommend this bar above all others. read more

A solid 2-1/2 stars if there ever was one. I have a love-hate relationship with the Beantown. It's a good lunch spot if you want to veg out and not be bothered with a touristy crowd. Prices are good for what you get and the soup and sandwich combo is a perfect kind-of-like-homemade meal. One bartender is kind of abrasive and puts the "friendliest bar" sign to shame but the kind Irish barmaids certainly take good care of you at this townie-like establishment. Don't expect gourmet but if you want to escape the office for lunch this is the perfect hide out. read more

I was expecting a lot because my friend loves this place, but was sadly disappointed. We had a group of friends in back in the blue room. The service was awful. The waitress didn't give us menus- we had to ask for them ourselves and then she didn't come over to us for 7 even though she kept walking by. She didn't bring our drink order at all and someone else brought our food when it came out- that woman quickly got us our drinks in the 30seconds it took to fill 2 glasses. I got the crispy cheesy fries. They said hand cut, but they definitely tasted like that had been frozen and preserved in a lot of salt. The cheese, which there was a lot of, tasted like absolutely nothing so I eventually just took it off since it was adding extra calories for literally nothing. My friend's sandwich was abominable- but she'll write her own review. We were there for 2.5hours in total and we had to flag down the waitress to get us water about 90 minutes into it. The atmosphere was really relaxed and pretty nice. Seemed to have a great crowd. Alas, I doubt I will be back again. read more

1. Beer is overpriced for a dive such as this. 2. There is no place to stand in the entire bar without having to get pushed by other clientele or employees. 3. Food is pretty horrendous, and I do not consider myself a picky eater. The fries are very good though. 4. Too many annoying law students jabbering about offer and acceptance or some crap. read more

Free wireless, and just a general overall good vibe from this bar on an early Saturday night. Everyone seemed friendly, the bartenders have their semi- Boston wise guy attitudes without being pretentious or pushy, and all the food that was popping out of this kitchen looked hearty and good. Would recommend for a good local spot for people wanting to take a break from busy touristy stuff. (also at least 4 or 5 pool tables in the back) read more

Lawyer bar in lawyer-town. I always feel like this place is trying to take my money and chivvy me out the door. That is perhaps unfair, but that's my experience. Feel free to filter this. read more

Too bad I have always consider beantown pub as my fave hangout spot, however, that one particular waitress ash completely ruined my ending for that night .. It was an hour later since we got there, she didn't ask us if we wanted to eat, but when we asked her if we could order, she asked us in ugly tone, "ok what you guys want .." Throughout the night she wasn't even around for a long ass time, she would walk by but didn't even at least ask if we were doing ok except trying to refill our drinks, and for like about an hour trying to reach her for the check, we had to do whatever to get her attention .. Then finally getting the check and dealing with few errors with my payments, I paid and tipped her $5 because horrible service she gave us (even tho we know that usually they get tipped $10-12 but this woman doesn't deserve a penny) .. And then she had the nerves to ask why we tipped her so litter and said her manager would be upset (lmaooooo) .. We told her she took too long to come to us .. She turned her back and left .. At first I felt bad but remembering how rude she was, take that $5 and suck it lol .. If you think I'm making this up ha! Go look at your cameras, boss and guests, just go see it for yourself .. read more

The location is great, right near some of the hot spots for visitors to Boston. We stopped in for early dinner on Saturday, right in the middle of college football season. The place was packed, standing room only. Despite the massive amount of people, we were greeted almost immediately and walked to a counter area facing the street. The hostess advised us to sit here and when a table opened up, we could have it. Sure enough, about 10 minutes later, the hostess returned and walked us to our nearby table. Our server was super awesome and very friendly. It was a first time visit for all four in our group, so she patiently talked to us about the menu while making food and drink suggestions. We all ordered something different (Paul Revere/Freedom Trail Sausage sandwich minus the bread/chicken wings/Beantown burger). No complaints of any kind about the flavor, portion size, temperature, or quality of the food. It was all really good. I usually prefer my french fires on the crunchier side, so that would be the only thing I would mention as a negative, but it isn't really a negative, especially since I did not ask for them to be crunchy. They are the big steak fries too. I had some iced tea to drink, which tasted very fresh and strong. I'm big on iced tea, and so I had high expectations that were met. The crowd seemed like a good mixture of tourists like us, and locals. We felt like we were in an authentic Boston restaurant, not something crafted to feel like Boston. We'll make the Beantown Pub a must stop for our future visits to Boston. read more

I would like to say a big thank you to bartender Big Mike for taking care of me and my teacher friends (they can be demanding and picky. ). He was patient and helpful regarding the local brews. He may be the best bartender ever! read more

We were in search for decent late-night eats and we had limited choices in Boston because everybody's closed at 10 pm Sunday night. We found this pub on our walk and took a shot. The great thing about this pub is there's something for everyone and you won't be disappointed. The food was awesome! I had the Paul Revere sandwich which is basically hot corned beef and pastrami on melted Swiss with delicious soft roll. Eat that with delicious fries and wash it down with Blue Moon and I'm in heaven! I'm from Colorado and good food is hard to come by but the pub has exceeded my expectations in terms of late night eats. Well done and I'd come back here for sure the next time I'm visiting Boston! read more

Beantown is a solid bar. It has decent beer selection at reasonable prices and is in a good location. This has been consistanly delivering a solid product for a number of years which is hard to do in the bar business with staff turnover being so high. read more

I've been here a few times, for breakfast, lunch & dinner! It's very nice & quiet on a weekend morning, which is a nice contrast to usually busy city life! Basic and relatively simple menu offerings - the food is decent, but nothing spectacular. For a city-based restaurant it's priced fairly. Like other viewers have mentioned, the service is on the slow side, & most of the wait staff seem to be young women, which is maybe to appeal to the male pool table crowd? No criticism, just an observation. I've never played pool here as the tables always seem to be full - maybe you can reserve one? Ok place to grab a bite, but not really a destination point. read more

Very friendly at first, then they brought us the wrong drinks , tried to fix it, completely messing up again serving watered down rum. The bartender them came over and was rude, I could over hear them talking crap among themselves, the lobster roll was pretty good. But never again because the extremely rude bartender. The waitress was nice though. read more

We have been at the Beantown Pub for dinner at our first evening in Boston (17.10.2015) after a short walk to let my family get a first impression if the city. Heading back to the 'T' to get back to our Hotel we decided to give it a try and we were not disapointed. The Pub was crowded (but that seems to be normal being there at a weekend evening) and we did have to wait for a table. But being lucky we got one a few minutes later. Service was good (friendly and quick) and we did choose a Cheeseburger each. Good choice. The food was realy tasty and the pricing is fair. We surely will be back during our next stay in the US / Boston. read more
