    Ham n taters
    Bill S.

St James is a nice town, lots of pride when it comes their local businesses. Both my sons still go to the barber on Lake ave. I live two towns away but when I saw Ham n Taters on social media I knew I'd be swinging by for breakfast. Parking in St James? Sucks. Either your parking on the street or your luck out with spot out back. Walking inside, Bean's Bagels is a small deli with a few tables. While waiting on line, I see how social media comes into play. Beans Bagels is trying to appeal to a younger consumer with items like oreo cream cheese and fruity pebble bagels. Not something my wife & I would try but if its a big seller then keep making them for your customers. A nice lady asks what I would like to order. I say Ham n Taters please and make the scrambled eggs soft. Also, can I have the Taters on the side? My meal is ready, it looks good in the picture! However, the scrambled eggs are overcooked and the taters are in the sandwich. I guess she didn't understand what I meant, she also gave me a side of hash browns? I've been raked over hot coals for a three star review a few years ago, most likely from a social media firm. People make mistakes, it wasn't in the cards for me today so it's not a big deal. 3 stars isn't horrible, Bean's Bagels isn't close to my home, so I will not be returning.

A step above your average bagel place! Beans is a new shop in the area, which adds a new bagel frontier for those who reside in St. James. I can only speak for the delivery aspect: ordered an aleko (egg whites, spinach, turkey bacon, feta) on a whole wheat everything with a side of hashbrowns. Delivery took a decent amount of time but, everything was still pleasantly hot by the time I got my hands on it. The aleko was huge! Piled high with egg whites and turkey bacon. Definitely hits that salt craving if you're looking for it. The bagel itself was surprisingly tender which was a nice surprise. The home fries it came were freshly made, not my favorite homefries of all time but servicable. And the hashbrown was a standard rectangle hashbrown. Not what I expected but I have a heart, so I didn't hate it. Honestly, I would be most definitely be interested in coming back here to try their other offerings. Their bagels are good, and their concoctions looks super interesting!

So happy to have found this place!! There are not many good bagel places in Smithtown so I was happy to find a new place in St. James! Beautiful space for a bagel shop and the place is spotless! I started following them on Instagram and they really have some amazing and creative creations! I came in on Friday with a friend and wanted to try something I saw on their Instagram. The owner said he created it for a friend and he'd be happy to make it for me. It should definitely be a staple on their menu! It was amazing and I'll be back again for it!! My friend and I split the sandwich and also got a Dorito bagel with veggie cream cheese. So so good!!! We brought it up a notch and bought a bag of Doritos and added it to the bagel... we're foodies, what can I say!? Haha The owner and his wife were so friendly, chatting with us about the shop and coming by to make sure we were ok and enjoying everything. We will definitely be back!!!

What I loved most was the variety of spreads and options they had available. They had everything from classic cream cheese to jalapeno cheddar spread, and even Nutella and peanut butter for those with a sweet tooth. It was tough to decide which spread to choose, but the staff was patient and helpful in helping me make a decision. I got a classic sausage egg and cheese and it was delicious! The service at Beans was excellent as well. The staff was friendly, attentive, and efficient. They made sure my order was correct and that I had everything I needed. Overall, I highly recommend them their delicious breakfast sandwiches and variety of spreads. It's a great spot to grab a quick breakfast on the go.

    Literally nothing more than basic.

This shop is all over instagram and with an intense push to drive people to their business for "insane creations" and "the best bec youve ever had". Yet, they are always out of everything no matter if its 8am on a Sunday or 10am on a Thursday. Twice we have driven 25 mins to this place and it is a disappointment every single time! STOP PROMOTING YOURSELF IF YOU CANT KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND!

This was worth my visit. The bacon scallion cheddar bagel was nice, soft and yummy. Mike the owner was there and made it fresh for me which was really nice. The bagel shop is clean and there is parking in the back. Pay attention to the signs because the barber shop next door says no parking or you will be towed! Don't want that. Back to the deliciousness. I didn't know what to choose because he has a nice menu and a variety of cream cheese. I made a great choice after all. I also tried the rainbow bagel with birthday cake cream cheese (I split it with my daughter). It was enjoyable. I plan to go back to try another flavor and I hope that French toast bagel will be on the menu! (Hint hint). Also congratulations to Mike and his wife on their new bundle of joy and lots of luck on your new business!! Go enjoy people!!

I really wanted to love this bagel establishment. My daughter and I went in to get some breakfast. We ordered two bagels with butter and jelly. The staff were very nice and gave us some mini muffins to take home. We sat in the restaurant to have our bagels. I took a bite. I don't even know what the heck was on the bagel. By the look on my daughter's face, I could tell she had the exact same experience. I don't know if it was vegetable shortening or what but it was certainly NOT butter. ... And it wasn't cream cheese either. It was awful. I should've gone up to the counter and complained or at least questioned them about the 'butter' But my daughter and I were so disgusted we threw out our bagels and left the store. The muffins were terrible. I should give this café a zero! I just feel bad for them. They are truly missing the mark. Considering the prices they are charging ($$$) the bagels and the baked goods should be delicious.

I hate leaving bad reviews especially for newer restaurants that have opened up in Saint James village, but this is just unacceptable. I received my door dash order of a pumpernickel bagel with veggie cream cheese. I also ordered half dozen bagels and a half pound of cream cheese. The pumpernickel bagel with cream cheese is disgustingly stale. Just by holding it you can tell it's hard and stale, meaning whoever prepared this bagel knew it was stale and they still sold it to a customer. The edges of the bagel are white on this pumpernickel bagel. Bagel is also small compared to bagels from most other bagel stores as well as the other ones in the bag I received. The other pumpernickel bagel I received is also stale. The other ones in the bagel feel fresh. Me and my husband have come here a couple times because it's near by and we wanted to support a local business, but I think I am done and will go elsewhere for a bagel. Update: The other bagels in the bag that I ordered that I thought may be fresh were definitely on the verge of being stale. And the next day were stale. These are not bagels that are made daily.

Got some bagels on TooGoodToGo. Great service! Quiet at closing time so it was very quick in and out. I'd buy again.

Excellent large, fluffy bagels in a time where everyone else is shrinking theirs. Highly recommended.

They don't take reservations. After about 10 minutes my friend and I plus 3 teens (my kids and a friend) were starving and Schnitzels was loud and crowded. We headed a few doors down to Sweet Mama's. Seated immediately. My friend and I shared the steak with penne dinner special and a Cobb salad with grilled chicken. My daughter ordered penne with butter off the kids menu. My son got a turkey burger and his friend got a grilled chicken sandwich on a hero instead of a wrap. Now the good -- portions were huge! My son could barely fit his burger in his mouth and it also had a half avocado on it. They didn't skimp. Steak with penne was delicious and so was the Cobb salad. We all shared off each other's plates because everything looked so amazing. Now the bad. My daughter's pasta was elbows, not penne as indicated on the menu. Not a catastrophe but she was looking forward to penne. Then - my son's friend put some ketchup on his plate for his fries. It was ,.. not red but brown. The bottle had an 8/25 expiration. We are in April 2026. We told the server and she said it's because it's the "simply ketchup" with no artificial dyes. She offered him ketchup packets "with fake dyes" but by that point he lost his appetite for fries. We grabbed ketchup from another table, same brand, Heinz Simply. You can see the difference in color. We showed the server and she acted annoyed. I told her we didn't want anyone getting sick on that ketchup and pointed out the expiration date. She rolled her eyes and said "oh I'll just throw it away." She kind of had an attitude and didn't even apologize. So that's why 4 stars. We'd go back but request not to have that server. The food is fantastic but watch your ketchup! If someone put it on a burger it would have been ruined.

Not terrible, but also not memorable…read more Sweet Mama's is a hybrid concept tucked away in the adorable Stony Brook Village. On one end, ice cream. In the middle, restaurant, and towards the back, a bar. Surprisingly at 11am, for a table of four, we waited about 10 mins for a table. We ordered a variety of things, from soup, to bennys and a mimosa flight. The mimosa flight was very cute but mine ended up tasting just like white wine. The real disappointment imo was the Belgian Waffle. Now I know, part of this is my fault, for expecting more than what the description laid out. But for $12 I got one crispy and tender waffle with powdered sugar and that was it. No side of fruit, no home fries, nothing. Everyone else enjoyed their food, which I was happy about! And service was wonderful. But for $12 for one waffle, this place may be a biiiiiiit overpriced for my liking.

Initially we had ordered two rolls and was told no we ordered three so we shrugged it off. I'd also like to note we were paying with a debit card and it's slightly cheapest with cash. The black and white cookie looked delicious so I opted to get one of those. When being rung up we had sticker shock. $9.31 for 1 large black and white cookie. When I said something about it the girl said she'd put it back but we felt bad so we said "no that's okay." because we both felt awkward and it must be pretty special. The apple turnover was $5.20 and lacking apples. We actually threw it in the garbage after 2 bites. All in all the items were not good and not very fresh tasting in our opinion but to each is their own. I honestly with all due respect feel some places are really price gouging since the pandemic. I get that people lost businesses and all but this place is less than a year old and the prices were not justified and not worth it might I add. I wish them all the luck in the world but don't have high expectations for this place. Sorry.
