I went for breakfast and while we were the only ones in the restaurant no one greeted us. The food was extremely disappointing and it seemed they were not prepared to actually serve us. The pancakes where overcooked and hard to the point that my daughter wouldn't eat them. It was also pricey for the amount of food you actually get. The latte was decent, but not as good as Peekskill Coffee House which is right down the street. Better off going there! read more

As a working musician who happens to have been raised in Croton-on-Hudson (just south of Peekskill), the Bean Runner was an unexpected find which has ended up being one of my favorite venues to perform at. Why? Simply put, the warm welcome I received from the owners Ted & Drew, were a far cry from the often cold reception we often face in the NYC area. Their generosity and support of performing artists is something rarely seen in the New York area, so I and all the other musicians I know who have performed there are full of gratitude for their hospitality and openness. Now about the food and atmosphere: excellent, Excellent, and SUPER EXCELLENT! Is it the Russian Tea Room, Ritz-Carlton or U.N. Plaza Hotel? No, thank God! Just an honest place run by honest people and a simple but well put together menu with enough variety to keep most anyone happy for many, many visits. And the desserts & smoothies? MMMMMMMMM!!! Long Live Bean Runner....we music lovers love you and need more places like yours. May there be 10 Bean Runner Cafes for every Starbucks in the world someday! :-) read more

I love this small but quaint cafe, the menus isn't huge but the grilled cheese is delicious. I always get a cappuccino and enjoy the music and poetry they always have going on. The staff are always very attentive and I always find myself going back for a great evening. This is one of my favorite places! read more

Since people are comparing the Bean Runner with the Peekskill Coffee house I would just have to say...they're different. Where the atmosphere is cool at TPCH I think the help is snooty & who needs that? I mean, it's coffee for gawd's sakes...please hold the attitude. I prefer the staff at the BR hands down. Their food is pretty good and priced well for what it is and it's a comfortable atmosphere for hanging in. As for supporting local music....here it doesn't get any better! They treat musicians with respect & genuine support and that is downright rare! It's a great gathering place for local musicians and even those from out of town. For that alone I'd give them a round of applause and hope they will be in business for years to come!! read more

Both the BeanRunner and Peekskill Coffee House have a lot to offer. If you're looking for coffee, I'd recommend the PCH over the BeanRunner, but if you're hungry, I would probably give BeanRunner the edge (although the new panini sandwich at PCH is good). First of all, I don't consider Bean Runner to be a coffee shop like Peekskill Coffee House so people shouldn't compare the two. The breakfast is good, simple and cheap, and their soups and sandwiches are great. Their soup is especially excellent. The restaurant is spotless and very inviting. Although I have been to Bean Runner at least a dozen of times I still don't know what it is. It seems to want to be a coffee shop, sandwich shop, child care center, art house, and jazz club all at the same time. Truthfully, I have a difficult time getting comfortable there. We usually just eat fast and leave which is probably why we only go there once every month or two. The owners have obviously done a great job creating the space and the food they offer is quite good. However, I think if they concentrated on 1 thing they could provide a much better experience. By the way, when I go to Bean Runner for breakfast I usually go to Peekskill Coffee right afterwards. read more

BeanRunner is a great addition to the Peekskill area,I enjoy the soups and salads especially with the recent pick 2 option. Great place to meet friends and it also has a kids section!!! On weekend it's a great place to checkout live music at a great cost. The Beanrunner is very relaxing. read more

Consistently good music, rotating art of various local artists, unique and good sandwich menu. They get their soups from outside, VERY good soups! They volume of the music is often too loud for the size/shape/brick walls of the venue, but that's pretty much the case everywhere these days. They coffee drinks are not AS good as the peekskill coffee house, but are still worth getting if thats the mood you are in while there anyway. If you are JUST out to get caffeine, might as well go across the street. Also, a separate and sizable room full of toddler and preschooler toys. read more

A hidden gem, BeanRunner has a peaceful interior (multi-rooms) and in the warmer weather has a gorgeous backyard/courtyard. I go there when I want to be outside away from the noise. It is like a home to me - everyone greeting me like family (especially Gina - who has the biggest heart ever). I live on the soups in the winter and smoothies in the summer - salads great too. My friends and I meet there every week. The music on the weekends is first class! Can't say enough about it. read more

I went to The Bean Runner for the music. A friend told me that there was going to be a performance there, and that it's a cute little spot for a show. They were right. Friendly people working there, and in the audience, too. Very accommodating. And the show was delightful. It was like a festival of diverse musical genres. What a great evening! Nice place to stop for lunch near the Taconic State Parkway. We dropped in around 2 on a Tuesday and had soups and sandwiches with a glass of French Chardonnay. It's tough to find Manhattan Clam chowder in CA, so when I saw it as a special, I had to get it. Service was friendly and relaxed. read more

My wife and I went to this cafe on a night when a jazz ensemble was scheduled to play. We had high hopes. We made reservations several days in advance. When we arrived, we were seated at a table for two, but told four people would be sitting at the table. This table was also pushed up against other tables, to try to squeeze in more customers. Once the staff realized how impractical this arrangement was, they moved us to another table, only to find out later this table was also booked. No one took our food or drink order during this whole time. We ended up leaving. I did get my $20 cover back, but no apology, including to an email I sent a couple days later to explain my complaint. Truly, they packed the people in like sardines, and worst of all, they appeared to think this was okay. When two chairs side by side are wider than the table (by a good margin), you cannot sit four people at the table, and pushing the tables together to make a giant picnic table does not solve the problem, but rather, eliminates any possibility of customers being comfortable or having the slightest bit of privacy in their conversation. read more

well this is my second review of the bean runner. as i said in my first one the only reason i would return is if i had no other choice. my wife loves this place so she wanted to go with myself and 3 friends. we walk in on sundat about 11am the place is very quite about 3 other people. we sit down the 5 of us and order after waiting about 10 min. well we all pretty much ordered the 2 eggs and bacon and toast. not to hard or so i thought. it took these people 45 min to start bringing out our orders. they were brought out one at a time 2 at best over the next 15 min. the first served were finished before the last person was served. the bathromms were a mess they were just plain dirty. my wife used the lasies room and said the same. what a disgrace this place has become. if the bathroom is a mess i can only wonder what the kitchen is like. what we planned to be maybe a 45 min meal turnes into about 90 min. what a waste of our morning and time. i will never go back to this place unless i have no other choice and will tell anyone who ask how i feel about it. look the food in pretty much ok and is priced more then fair but you have to do the little things that make you want to come back. train your staff to be quick and to get the orders right and keep the place CLEAN....CLEAN THE DAMM BATHROOMS. if i wanted to use a dirty bathroom i can use the subway which by the way are cleaner then the bean runner. get with it guys you have a nice space in a good location and people want to like you dont mess up. read more
