I came for live music on Friday evening. Needs to make reservation to be safe. Entrance fee was $10 pp. Small but very friendly atmosphere. Menus are limited with soup and sandwich, but they serve sangria and wines. Small Pitcher of sangria was $22 but it was tasty. I ordered fresh fruit crepes which was very dry and rough. I felt like I was chewing dry felt. I needed serious knife work to cut the crepes. Live music was worth to wait and very much enjoyed. The Bean Runner differs from its Peekskill Coffee House competitor in that in addition to serving coffee, pastries, and cake, they also serve soups, salads, and sandwiches. I've had the coffee at both the Bean Runner and the Peekskill Coffee House and I find the coffee (and variety of coffee served as well) to be much better and tastier at TPCH. I've also tried the cookies and cake a few times at Bean Runner and I didn't think they were good - the desserts taste heavily processed or like they're the frozen variety. I must say though, that the service at the Bean Runner is consistently friendly and that when you order food, they will gladly bring it out to your table (and I've gone with quite a large group before, so I really appreciate this). The soups, salads, and sandwiches are reasonably priced. I'll normally get a salad and always find it satisfying. As for atmosphere, the Bean Runner has always been on the quiet side when I've gone in, so it's a good place to carry on a conversation. The decorations are a little sparse, and there are 2 big armchairs in back. There's something about the coffee-house vibe that's missing, but I think that the place is well-maintained. read more

Went here with a group of 10 to enjoy live music with reservations. It was eh. It may have been better but we were squished in the back corner and couldnt even see the stage let alone a person. Bumped the guy from the table 12 inches away every tome to ger up. It was packed but this should have been known before hand that we would not see and given that choice. It was not fair for $10 a person to see live music but NOT SEE. I only saw the girls when i went to the bathroom. I think instead of being money hungry, actual customer service should have been held higher or known in advance. Also the beef pattie for $3.75 was box. Would pass. read more

Went for breakfast today with a group of 4. I'm sad to say it was a thumbs down...because this place has so much potential to be a great cafe. Service was slow, eggs and toast were uninspiring. Nobody asked if we wanted more coffee. It was not crowded so not sure what was happening. I hope the owner sees this note and turns things around quickly. We'll give it another try eventually. Came in for lunch with 2 friends. 2 of us ordered a salmon sandwich. When it came out we began eating and the salmon was dry and ice cold. I figured maybe it was supposed to be cold, ans i was starved. The waitress never came back to check on us. When she eventually came to clear the plates I asked if the salmon was supposed to be cold. You step inside Bean Runner to be "greeted" by staff who appear to be on Xanax and can't be bothered acknowleding you. Skimpy dessert menu and so-so coffee. I'll go back to Peekskill Coffee any day over this place. I am tired of coming across establishments that can't seem to figure out who they are trying to cater to. Are you a restaurant? Normally when I give a not so stellar review of a place it's because of the food, but sadly this is not the case here. I came on two different occasions for breakfast; on the first, my gf and I sat ourself and over the course of the next 30 minutes watched two different waitress walk by and not once even talk to us. The killer thing is there were only two other customers in the entire place. So we got up and left. The second time. The waitress had a tremendously bad attitude to begin with, served us our coffee and wasn't seen or heard from again until I got up to ask for a check. And we were the only customers in the entire shop. It's no wonder why rignt don't the street the Peekskill Coffee House, which is more expensive than they are is always packed with customers. Their waitstaff is friendly, helpful and attentive; the total opposite of the Beanrunner's. I won't be returning to a place where they go out of their way to make you feel unwelcome. read more

The Bean Runner has potential, however the execution falls short. Pros: loved the local art on the wall and my cappuccino was great (which is why they are getting 2 stars). Cons: The menu was nothing special. They did not have spinach or mushrooms for my omelette and the "toast" did not appear warm or toasted, simply buttered bread out of a bag. My boyfriend's wrap had one thin pathetic strip of chicken and was served with a closed bag of Lay's potato chips which I found odd. Nothing worth returning for. read more

"F" Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks, etc. This place is a prime example of why a community needs to support quality local businesses. Notice that I said "quality"...I don't think one should shop locally at any cost, especially where the product or service is poor. But here is a case where the product and service and offerings (live music/comedy nights/etc.) are not lacking in the least. And, the owner Ted gives back to the community, particularly the youth of this community, in countless ways with no expectations of accolades or pay. read more

Came in for brunch and we sat for about 15 mins and then left. Not once during that 15 mins did anyone come over to even ask if we wanted water. At the time there was only one other table of people in the restaurant. It seems whoever is running this place does not really care how things are going. It was very evident when we walked out the door and what I can only assume was the manager just looked at us. The owner of this place has a terrible temper and has NO idea how to treat his costumers. He is RUDE and arrogant. It is unfortunate, as it would be a nice neighborhood place, but I would not go back ever again. We were there for an open mic night. A woman was singing on the stage and the owner was literally standing in front of her speaking very loudly to someone. When we asked him to please quite down and move away from standing in front of her, he began yelling at us. He said" You are messing with the wrong guy. We went to the Bean Runner this afternoon with friends (a couple) who live in Peekskill, and we really liked it! The building is ca. 1850 and the owners did a *terrific* job of restoring it. The interior has exposed brick (original to the building), it's a good size, and it's quite attractive & comfortable. There's also a nice-sized patio, plus they have a large and brightly-colored (separate) children's area (I wish some other places had that....). The woman working there was very pleasant - and the owner stopped by at one point and we enjoyed meeting her. Our friends said there's sometimes jazz music. My husband & I had delicious iced coffee - but if we hadn't just eaten a big lunch, we would have loved to try some of their delicious-looking soups and/or desserts. read more

Lovely little place for Coffee and a nice venue for artists to come play at, the food however is another story. The orders came out sporadically and the food was a bit sub-par apart from a fluffy Belgian Waffle. When I asked for a jelly or fruit topping for my waffle they went in back where I saw the Woman grab a smuckers jar and proceed to place a small bit in a plastic tub for me. Thanks... I've seen some really amazing bands play here and I generally like the place. The problem is the food. The music is mostly in the evenings and I need to eat dinner. I would love to go to the Beanrunner for dinner and music but there isn't really much to eat unless you want a sandwich for dinner. If they could upgrade the menu I would be there more often. What a let down this place was. Stopping by on a Saturday night, the first thing we were asked was if we were here for the show and that it was $10. We were just coming from the Hudson Room and only wanted coffee. Being that they wanted $10 per person to take a seat, we were unable to stay a while. Regardless, I ordered a latte, which was a little unimaginative and just "alright". Around the corner, you'd get a miniature work of art swirled in the foam, which really doesn't affect the coffee, but adds a little playful twist on things; here, nothing. So many of the restaurants offer free entertainment on the weekends, along with live performances outside. If you're into the music scene here, then $10 is probably a great value, but if you are truly in it for the coffee, you'd be better off going to the Peekskill Coffee House. Ironically, still wanting to linger, we ended up lingering outside the Coffee House, regretting not getting our coffees from there in the first place. read more

As a working musician who happens to have been raised in Croton-on-Hudson (just south of Peekskill), the Bean Runner was an unexpected find which has ended up being one of my favorite venues to perform at. Why? Simply put, the warm welcome I received from the owners Ted & Drew, were a far cry from the often cold reception we often face in the NYC area. Their generosity and support of performing artists is something rarely seen in the New York area, so I and all the other musicians I know who have performed there are full of gratitude for their hospitality and openness. Now about the food and atmosphere: excellent, Excellent, and SUPER EXCELLENT! Is it the Russian Tea Room, Ritz-Carlton or U.N. Plaza Hotel? No, thank God! Just an honest place run by honest people and a simple but well put together menu with enough variety to keep most anyone happy for many, many visits. And the desserts & smoothies? MMMMMMMMM!!! Long Live Bean Runner....we music lovers love you and need more places like yours. May there be 10 Bean Runner Cafes for every Starbucks in the world someday! :-) read more

People have raved about this place to me for years so while family was in town we decided to try it for breakfast. Bad idea and I will not be back. There was a couple of people there so we figured it would be a fast breakfast. Nope. Had to ask be to seated- we were ignored when we walked in. Sat outside on their patio- needs some work. The server left us waiting for 15 minutes. When she finally came back out simple order flustered her. We gave her the benefit of the doubt. Food was brought out with 2 or the 3 orders- we were missing eggs and toast. That came out 10 minutes later than the other food and it was cold. Server never came back. At other times, Service is super slow even with only one other table occupied in the entire place. Service can also be rude as if to say "why are you here?" . Menu never changes and is indifferent at best. If you ask where your food is or whether you can order at the counter because you've been sitting waiting 20 minutes for someone to take your order, there is an instant vibe of unfriendliness.
