For the staff very sweet and great at explaining and making recommendations on items. Definitely favored the stuff cookies, don't see that done much outside of just a basic chocolate chip cookie with stuff chocolate brownie in the middle. I love this place. I came here for my baby shower cake. I had been ill for some time and was having constant dizzy episodes due to my Cholestasis. When I was going over my cake ideas, I got so dizzy I spaced out. Staff quickly responded. Thankfully I was with my mother who responded for me letting staff know that my pregnancy just wasn't doing too well. They ran to get me a chair and offered me a cookie to raise my sugar. I was in New York helping my cousin who had surgery and we needed to get some dessert for company and my cousin suggested Homestyle. He said they had delicious baked goods so I was excited to check it out. It is located in a very hip area of Peekskill surrounded by restaurants and near the water. The bakery front is loaded with pre-boxed cookies, chocolate covered pretzels and other goodies. Then there are cases full of cakes, pastries, cookies, muffins and ice cream cakes. I embraced the sweet aroma and wanted one of everything! We ordered a tiramisu cake, cookies, and a few Italian pastries. The young girl that helped us was very sweet. We met the owner on our way out and learned a few things about the history of the bakery. She was so nice and friendly. Everything was delicious! The tiramisu cake was yummy. It was light, sweet and perfect for after dinner. It was quite big and we still have 1/2 left. Definitely worth the trip. I am sure it won't last long. Hee, hee. Took a few minutes for the 3-4 employees who were looking at me enough confidence to say "what do you want" At that point I should have walked out. However I opted for $44 in cupcakes that were disappointing. I was told they were fresh...they were not even close to fresh and they were bland. I was on the search for wedding cupcakes as parting gifts at my reception and decided in this bakery. This was instead of a wedding cake. They had a tasting platter and after much discussion with the manager she said that they could do the design I wanted. I asked for filling and she said it was no issue to put two fillings in my cupcakes which I wanted. We confirmed this several times. When I got my cupcakes they all looked like vanilla cake but I assumed they had the filling which I paid for. Nope. They were just plain vanilla in the center. No filling. It was very disappointing. I could have gotten plain vanilla in NYC where the wedding was but went all the way to Peekskill to get the "perfect" cupcake. They were beautiful. But not what we agreed upon. read more

On our way back to Metro north my friend and I found this bakery. Its a lot bigger than your tiny bakeries you can find in NYC. I loved the little sink area where you can wash your hands. But why wash your hands when you can lick the frosting off your fingers, hee hee. The bakery was fairly crowded and I was able to browse a bit until I decided what I wanted. They had variety of cupcakes, cookies sliced and whole cakes. They had these cute small pizza cake items. I got my usual chocolate on chocolate cupcake which was very yummy. It was moist and tasty because I've had some nasty cupcakes before. The prices were reasonable and fair to me. I would check this place out again if I am in the area. read more

Where to start with this place..ok, 7 years ago was my first visit when I was shopping wedding cakes. I made an appointment for a tasting, we get there and we pretty much sat at a folding table behind the counter, served a few different cake samples, all the meanwhile a large dog was walking in and out of the area where food is being prepped and put out for sale. I LOVE DOGS, but I didn't think this was appropriate, especially when we were sitting there eating. I remember the staff wasn't that friendly, but ok. Needless to say, we didn't get the cake there. Fast forward a few years, i now live much closer and it's one of the only bakeries around with a large selection of cookies, cakes, etc. I was in the mood for something sweet so I stopped in for a couple slices of cake, and again the staff was very unfriendly. But the cake was good, so fine. Fast forward to today, that I've been following them on Instagram for the last couple months and see they now are offering bubble tea, my favorite. It's still hard to come by anywhere around so I decided to give it a try. I went with a strawberry milk tea for my husband, and a mango raspberry juice tea for myself, both of which are in plain sight as options on their menu. The strawberry milk was no problem, the juice tea I was told they don't have - I pointed it out on the menu, and then they young lady understood what I wanted. It took an extraordinary amount of time to make each drink, I had no choice but to wait. I decided to also get a black and white cookie as well as one of the stuffed cookies - I pointed to the cookie I was eying and asked what it was. The young lady took it out and looked at it but didn't know, then said it was some sort of Andes candy mint chocolate stuffed, which is what it looked like it said on the display, so I took it. When I got home, it was walnut, cranberry and white chocolate chip. A far cry from what I wanted and was expecting- I despise white chocolate. The strawberry milk tea was awful, you could taste the grit of the strawberry powder that was used to flavor the milk, and apparently the brown sugar boba I added to it, were also flavorless. So $22 later, a less than friendly staffer helping me once again, I've learned my lesson for the last time to not patron this bakery. I gave 3 stars because despite the lack of customer service or personality of staff, weed smoking car club that meets in their parking lot, they do have a nice selection of cookies, cakes, ice cream and now serve breakfast sandwiches that I wish I could try, but will refrain. read more

This cute little ice cream place is on the side of the road, you may miss it if you're going too fast. At first we just wanted ice cream until we saw the menu and let the staff know it was our first time there. The staff gave us more details about the stuffed donuts. It was clear that it's what we wanted, did I mention the donuts are freshly made there. I forgot the names of the donuts but the fruity pebbles is stuffed with vegan milk (if I remember correctly) and it's Soooo yummy. This is my favorite we also got an order of the triple layer? My neighbor picked up an apple strudel for my birthday. She looked at it when she picked it up and it looked fine. That night I cut into it only to find there was mold in it. I wasn't sure if I should tell my neighbor but she probably paid good money for it so I reluctantly told her. When she returned it another was offered to her which she declined. A mild apology was made and no other compensation was made. I'm not sure how a bakery makes an apple pie but I believe they are using canned apple pie filling and charging $25 for it. I can't say enough good things about this bakery and the people who work here. I've ordered family birthday cakes, large batches of pastries for my kids' school parties and (more than a few) random belly bombs after downing (more than a few) beers across the street at the Peekskill brewery. The variety of offerings is fairly extensive and includes seasonal/holiday specialties. E verything is always indulgent and fresh. Moreover, the folks who work behind the counter have always been awesome to me and my family. They are really wonderful people- going out of their way to make sure I'm satisfied and my orders are exact. They always take time to chat with my little girls and they have been known to sneak them the occasional cookie when it isn't swamped. So very disappointing. My husband grew up in the area and we stopped here to pick up some treats on the way home after visiting his parents. I got a variety of things from cookie sandwiches, rainbow cookies, regular baked cookies and the holiday honey puff dessert (I forget what it's called) Everything was bland, lacking any flavor or sweetness and stale. This is just days before Christmas. I would have expected a high turnover on the items. Rainbow cookies tasted like refrigerator. It would have otherwise been good and just about the only thing with flavor but was overpowered by stale refrigerator on the sides. Cookie sandwiches tasted like cardboard. A which was so disappointing because they look beautiful. But looks can be deceiving. Waffle sandwich was the same thing. The Christmas buffs in honey... were stale and the cherries tasted like rubber. Spent $60 and threw just about everything away. Not worth the money at all. read more

Ordered a cake for our engagement party. Had multiple phone conversations about the specifics and confirming it. Day of we go to pick it up and they say they don't have it, can't find the order at all, and apparently this has been occurring frequently. In an effort to make it right they offer to make a new one on the spot, which makes my parents late for the party having to go back and get this new cake. I specified repeatedly that we wanted a vanilla, white frosting cake with candy pearls. Once we opened the cake at the end of the party, it turned out they made a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and nothing else. It was hideous and nothing like what we asked for. We used this place for years but it's gone way downhill. If you have anything important, don't go here and risk it with this place. read more

This has been an ongoing issue, dating back almost 25 years at least, because that is when my wife and I moved into the area. This place just oozes negative attitude. It's remarkable how consistent they are in that one way. I tried to order a cake for my wife's birthday. I called a day in advance, but the lady on the phone acted as I was ordering plutonium. She curtly told me that they require three days notice. Mind you, this was a standard 7" cake, not a sheet cake, not a special order, but one of their regular cakes. I was taken aback and then she told me that I should call back in five minutes. Instead, I called another bakery and they had the same exact cake ready for me, with Happy Birthday written on it, in just over an hour. And this was just as hectic a place as Homestyle is. Sure, the Super Bowl is this weekend and Valentine's Day is just around the corner. But if you need three days to get a simple, run-of-the-mill cake ready with Happy Birthday on it, you should be embarrassed. I called on Friday, two days before the Super Bowl. As I mentioned, had this been a one-time problem I would likely not have written the review. And I'm not saying that every encounter there has been unpleasant. What I'm saying is that the unpleasantness is baked in, pun intended. It happens a lot. And it shouldn't. There are other bakeries. This is a true local gem! I came here the first time when Moomoo was not yet open for the season. I was hot and hungry, looking for some good ice cream after a difficult hike. I was pleasantly surprised. I loved their lavender ice cream. Came back the second time, also after hiking, got the orange blossom, cherry chocolate chunks, and lavender. Loved every bite of it. I love the unique combo of the ice cream flavors. If I were to eat something so fattening, I have to at the minimum invest in the awesome flavors, not just the traditional ones. The ice cream are not too sweet, no food coloring, and the milk tasted better! I really think this place is a little local secret that needs to be shared with foodies on Yelp! The staff are pretty good. They are polite and friendly. They have tables for you to sit outside while you enjoy your cone or cup. The area is clean and spread out.
