I wish there was decent customer service. There's the snotty attitude and rolling of the eyes when serviced. When a customer ahead of me gets smiles and extra attention or plenty of extra food. My food is scarce and when asked for extra gravy I am ignored. I won't tolerate this bias attitude! I will patronize another restaurant elsewhere to be respected. The food is great--honestly, that's the only reason this place is still afloat. Everything else has gone downhill fast since they opened. Portions are stingy, and they nickel-and-dime you by limiting side combinations like it's some kind of game. It takes the enjoyment out of ordering and makes the whole experience feel cheap. The real issue, though, is the service. The staff is consistently disrespectful, and management clearly allows it. There's no accountability, no professionalism--just a bad attitude you're expected to tolerate while paying full price. At this point, it's not worth it. The food was not good today at all. Took 10 minutes for a large oxtail which consisted of 7 of the most babiest oxtails the lady could put on the plate. I ordered the oxtails and cabbage only. The cabbage tasted like baby food. Not suitable for an adult. Tasted like mush. This food was terrible today for 29.00. Someone from golden crust needs to come down and pay this location a visit. The recipe is not being followed at all. I will not be returning to this location. There isn't much else that tickles my palate than a nicely prepared, presented and bountiful Oxtail Platter. I ordered the large portion with Rice&Beans. There was Cabbage Slaw and beautiful plantains in the order. My wife had the Brown Stewed Chicken. On tasting both dishes our eyes 'rolled back' and savored the tastiness. The choices for this cuisine are kinda thin and sometimes hit & miss with portions. Though this is a 'chain', I am of the mindset that the food is prepared fresh daily. Couldn't believe there was a GK all the way up here in Peekskill. I've been to a few down in the city, but towards the last few years, they all started to become very lackluster. This location was a throwback to yesteryear when they had good food and good service. The young lady behind the counter was most definitely overworked though. She was handling taking the orders, getting the boxes ready and handling the register. I know for a fact that there were 2 orders ladies, that seemed to have disappeared when customers started walking in. Over all the food was tasty, though the chicken breast pieces (which were quite small) were dry, the sauce they gave you on the side made up for it though. Had a spicy beef patty to go with it and while tasty...it wasn't flaky or necessarily fresh out of the oven (slightly over warm, not oven hot) and it most definitely was NOT spicy. The store itself was extremely bright and clean including the bathroom. I'd definitely come back again, but if they could make some improvements to the beef patty, that'd be great! read more

I'm there almost weekly. Why? It's that good. The fish stew is my top preference. The breakfast is pretty solid with the usual Caribbean assortments- porridge, food, ackee n' sailfish, dumplings , green banana and plantains. If you're vegetarian, try the chickpeas curry with rice and peas (complete protein blend). I've never had poor service there and it's usual filled with people, but the line moves quickly. GREAT CHOICES FOR VEGETARIANS I lived in the Bronx back in the 90s and would regularly eat at the very first Golden Krust on Gunhill Road, which was known for their delicious food and patties. Well today, I went into this new location in the Beach Shopping Center. First of all, when you walk in the restaurant, it is bright, spacious and clean. The aroma that hits your nose...just makes your mouth start watering. I was sooo happy that they have vegetarian options. I ordered the lunch special ($8.66) - curried chickpeas fresh out the kitchen. It came with a healthy portion of peas & rice and cabbage. Everything was freshly cooked and so flavorful. I am so happy to have a delicious vegetarian option to enjoy. Also the staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall 30 years later, Golden Krust is still doing it, and doing it and doing it well!! read more
