Mr. George provides great service and food is prepared quickly and quite tasty. Ambiance has a Caribbean vibe. It's more of a takeout place, however has the potential and space for more activities. I've had really nice snapper there, but you may need to call ahead as some of their foods go fast. The decor is not inspiring but the food is authentic and very good. Being it was my first visit I asked the chef/owner to feed me her best choice. She asked if I liked "spicy", which I do, so she plated me up some jerk chicken - to go. The wonderfully spiced chicken came with rice, julienned peppers, onions and carrot and a couple of delicious plantains. All of which added up to an inexpensive but terrific lunch. Low key but you'll eat well at this downtown Peekskill Jamaican eat in/ take out restaurant. Service is at the counter where you'll order and the friendly staff will bring it all out to you piled high. Enjoyed the curry chicken with rice, plantains and cabbage and the stewed chicken is seriously good as well. Minced meat patty was piping hot, spicy and delicious. A huge feast for two at only $20 is well worth it. Inside is dark and there's no AC, just a couple loud industrial fans which kept us from melting. Also note that it's cash only. A really good place to come for lunch and recommended. read more

Excellent Jerk Chicken & Jerk Pork (real pork like from a pig roast with skin over the meat for flavor) with plenty of rice & beans, plantains, and sautéed vegetables on the side. Can't beat this place for the location and food quality. The medium size vs the large only differs by the amount of meat. The sides are the same size. The medium was more than enough and for $8 its a great deal. The don't serve alcohol but we BYOB from the wine store around the corner. Server brought us 2 wine glasses for it and charged NO corking fee. It is a no frills mom & pop style restaurant and we saw most people getting take out. We sat at only table outside and enjoyed the street scene and vibe. We will be back!! read more

The place was empty at 12pm on a Monday. Food was delivered in a few minutes. The jerk pork was flavorful and spicy. Neither meat, rice & peas, cabbage or plantains were hot. Rice and plantains were very dry. I was missing Ting as beverage. read more

We just came here for a late lunch after hiking & the gentleman who took our order & served us (son of the owner, we think) was super nice & very patient...as we took forever to order. The jerk chicken & BBQ jerk chicken were very tender & flavorful, as was the salt fish (pleasantly surprised that it wasn't, literally, salty) & callilloo. The jerk sauce, which I had with the salt fish, was super tasty. To top it all off, mom had the son give us complementary squash & plantains..we found that pretty sweet :) just a heads up...the portions are huge! Stumbled into this place after a night of drinking. It was late and appeared closed but a sleepy counter man welcomed our party of 4. We placed our orders and 15 minutes later we were eating at a table. I mention the prep time because the food was made/warmed to order which makes a big difference from sitting in a steam table as is common in Jamaican eateries. I had a feeling it would be good. I'll say the oxtail, spicy jerk chicken, sides of sweet plantains, pigeon peas in rice and stewed cabbage were as good as you'll find anywhere (and I've eaten this food in divey take-outs, street carts all over NYC to Jamaica and other Caribbean islands). My friend, who eats Caribbean more regularly than I was shocked and agreed it was so well seasoned and executed. They offer Jamaican drinks like ginger beer which is sweet and spicy and compliments the food. They don't have a liquor license (but they'll allow BYO which I'll keep in mind). They had a nice looking red velvet cake but it was late and we were full. Next time. I think if people could get passed the somewhat depressing room (it needs some sprucing up and better lighting) and focus on the food they'll be rewarded. Personally, I think there's a charm to the space but understand how the general public might think otherwise especially with all the trendy bars and restaurants in close proximity. We drove through Peekskill and decided to stop off for lunch. We stumbled upon G & H Caribbean Restaurant. We a lovely experience. We interacted with the cook, her husband and her grandchild. They were warm and welcoming. I had curry goat, my 10 year old had stew chicken and my wife had curry and stew chicken. All entrees come with rice and beans, cabbage with carrots and peppers, and plantains. Everything was delicious and the portions were abundant. My daughter said, "We have to recommend it to everybody. It was so good. I even wrote a note thanking the staff. If you go there order and extra portion of what you had and bring it home." read more

This place has terrible costumer service. I went in one day to grab lunch and something that I wanted to order was still being made. So I told them it was no problem at all and that I would wait for the item to be finished. After waiting for 20 minutes they handed me my food. When I got home and opened it, none of the food I waited 20 mins for was there. I went back and explained the situation and one of the ladies who work there was NOTHING BUT RUDE. She stood there and degraded my character, she said, specifically because of my race!! I will never go back there, other places in Peekskill deserve my business way more. My husband and I Love the food at G&H! We have been eating here for at least the past 3-4 years. My husband's favorite is the Oxtails and mine is the Curry goat. This is a family run business and the food is definitely Jamaican Home Cooking...which I LOVE...LOVE...LOVE!!! I am from the South, but I love Jamaican food...among many others. The family is very friendly and we are permanent customers! This past Summer, August 2015, during the Peekskill Jazz Festival..they Sold Out!!! That is how delicious their food is! My boyfriend and I stopped by around 6pm on a Sunday, and ordered the curry goat and oxtail. The food was soooo good and the people that own the place were very friendly.
