True to its name, Beacon New York lights the way and is in itself a foodie's destination as my partner and I found out last night at Kitchen Sink. Executive Chef Brian Arnoff's farm to table restaurant is an absolutely joyful experience from the Peach & Pepper salad, Cauliflower Faux Risotto (with oyster, cremini & shiitake mushrooms), gluten free Chicken (atop a dollop of carrot & cumin puree), and well deserved Beignets drizzled with chocolate ganache (OMGanache!). Our server, Sal, guided us through the menu and with perfect timing from one dish to another, graciously answering our probing questions about each mouthwatering dish with the knowledge of a docent describing art. Excellent restaurant with a different take on Jewish food. You may call it Jewish fusion but to me is just gourmet. Very delicate and well thought dishes with an extra touch of lightness. We were for having dinner while visiting Beacon. This is my second time in the area and I have to say this restaurant was the best so far. We started with the brisket kreplaj for the table. They made a fourth kreplaj for an additional $2 because the order comes with only 3 pieces. They were delicious! The brisket inside melts in your mouth and the combination with the pastry and the sauce is killer. I have to make a side note on the bread, focaccia style with an amazing olive oil. Get olive oil in the side! Because they bring a cream cheese with garlic spread that I didn't quite like. Then the entrees. The latkes which are by the way A latke, was very good but a very small plate for $12. The mussels on top are really good but the latke was to thin and crispy which lacked the tenderness and flavor of the potato. It was more like a mussel ceviche on top of a potato fritter. The risotto was great. I love cauliflower risotto. It is so much lighter and flavorful than rice and the combination with the fresh vegetables and almond pesto is astonishing. They have a bourbon chocolate cake for dessert that is nothing out of this world but still a good choice of you want something sweet after your meal because probably you'll be hungry. They have small plates. Unless you eat two baskets of bread like we did. It was really good but also we were hungry. Overall the prices are OK, Manhattan prices but the food you get is fresh and the products are from local farmers. I liked that, supporting the community. The staff is nice and the place even more. They also have a garden on the back of you want fresh air. I would totally come back! read more

Surprisingly inventive for such a small place. Unusual treatment of regular dishes and some surprises. Very nice service. A well curated collection of NY State wines, including a very drinkable Chardonnay. As we are a family, we ordered almost everything on the menu and everyone was very happy. read more

Great food, great atmosphere. We went here for dinner after hiking Mt. Beacon and had no problem getting a table outside (8pm on a Wednesday). There's a lot to choose from in Beacon, so selecting a restaurant (especially when you want to impress your colleague!) can be tough if you haven't been to most of them. But the reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor all pointed to Kitchen Sink as the top restaurant, and budget friendly, too. We were greeted with friendly faces and seated right away. All were overly pleased with their meals. The spaghetti w/ heirloom tomato sauce and eggplant ($16) was very good (but maybe not as filling - could be I was very hungry from our hike!) and the swordfish was excellent ($24) and a good size. We also got the pickled veggies appetizer ($4) which come in a small jar - that was different and tasty. The IPA and hefeweizen beers were excellent, too. We skipped dessert because we wanted to check out Bank Square Coffeehouse a couple doors down, but I'm sure it would have been just as awesome as the food. Thanks, Kitchen Sink! read more

The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Even going back to the kitchen to double check no nuts were near my food (I have a severe nut allergy). We've been here twice and had wonderful meals both times. Last night, we had the faux risotto, lamb kofta, and butterflied crispy chicken- all were exceptional, but the crispy chicken stole the show! Very well seasoned, perfectly cooked throughout and yet juicy and crispy at the same time. The charred peach, arugula, and peppers on top were as visually pleasing as they were delicious. I told my husband that it was the perfect dish, and he agreed. His lamb kofta rogan josh was very flavorful and delicious and he felt it was equal to my chicken, but I believe I had the winner. The faux cauliflower risotto was exceptional and it was hard to remember it wasn't actual risotto while we enjoyed it and the accompanying roasted squash and pickled scallions. A perfect meal on its own, but we shared as an appetizer. They managed to make comfort food light, gluten free, vegan AND delicious with this dish. Being allergic to casein, this was the first risotto I've been able to enjoy in years, and I am so very grateful for the privilege. The service was wonderful, kind, attentive but not hovering. The food came out quickly, but wasn't rushed. We had coffee and tea to follow- both brewed at our table in a French press and cast iron teapot (loose tea), respectively. Both wonderful. We shared the blueberry peach crisp, which was perfectly fresh and fruity without being overly sweet. The perfect end to a perfect meal. They accommodated our food allergies beautifully. Wow, I can't believe this place just opened. The food is excellent and the wait staff are attentive and experienced. The menu is small but even still there were so many delicious options. There are great choices for wine and beer but no mixed drinks. We were a party of four and we were seated on the shady back patio. We had brisket kreplach as an appetizer - three large, fried plump dumplings, easy to share. Three of us ordered the lobster with gnocchi and corn. One had the swordfish. Everything was beyond our expectations. When you go, and you must, save room for dessert. We had the cheese cake with pistachio brittle - this was decadent. This is a great addition for Beacon. The food was reminiscent of frozen food. Nothing tasted fresh (and certainly not "farm to table"), and everything from the salted butter that came with the soggy bread to the lamb-stuffed eggplant were oversalted to the point that they were almost inedible. The waitresses seemed like they were trying, but just weren't properly trained. I would have loved another glass of wine but was never approached. If the prices were 1/2 or even 2/3 if what they charge, I would have given another one or two stars but, for the price, it was just not acceptable. read more

A good friend of mine suggested we have dinner at KS. The restaurant has a few tables in the front, and more in the back on the deck, so if you are walking by and see no seats in the front don't think that's the only seating. They do not take reservations. We arrived around 8:00 and did not have to wait. It was a perfect evening to enjoy dinner outside. We split the Kreplach very yummy! I had the lamb stuffed eggplant wow that was good! Everyone was happy with the food and service. When I am back in the Poughkeepsie area I will plan on dinner at KS. read more

Tiny place on Main, simple, pleasing decor. Initially had a little trouble finding it as their sign blew down in the storm the day before. Food was outstanding. We started with the pickles (beets, carrots, parsnips) and vegetable fondue. Both were fresh and delicious. The local cheese used in the fondue was particularly tasty. For entrees, had the Vietnamese steak crepe and the halibut. Wonderful presentation and delicious blend of flavors. Halibut was perfectly cooked and some of the best I've had. No complaints. On a day trip to Beacon last weekend, Yelp pointed my party in the direction of the Kitchen Sink restaurant. We quickly discovered its appeal as they were available for a reservation only at 515 or 930. The place filled up quickly. We shared a few appetizers a) the chicken liver sliders which were good not great. They lacked the texture of the chicken liver I am used to and love. The mussel Latke was extremely tasty with a nice hint of vinegar and a meaty taste. It was the better of the two appetizers. For the main course, I had butter chicken which was juicy, plentiful and had a delicious sauce with a fragrant couscous accompaniment. The kitchen sink had everything I wanted. read more

This place was pretty good. We ordered the kreplach, a salad, the cauliflower risotto and the lamb kofte. The kreplach was filled with brisket instead of liver, so it wasnt technically a kreplach but it was still very tasty. The salad was very fresh and delicious and included both local greens and smoked shallots which were a nice touch. Both mains were great. read more

After all these fantastic reviews, we were looking forward to an amazing meal. First of all the place is cute, but small, like a little luncheonette with charm and nice waiters. We got there at 630 , looking forward to soft shell crabs, that they mentioned they had for the wkend, to find that they were almost out, but i was lucky enough to get the last 2. First of all, the menu is not for everyone, if you're not a meat eater like me. Also, a lot of fried food. My hub got the stuffed dumplings with brisket that was deep fried, i started with the mussels , which were out of the shell and mixed with heavy mayo and chopped celery served on a hard cracker they called a latka. This was pretty good, but a little spicy. My crabs came out big and fried, served on what seemed to be a take on Vietnamese Bun (rice noodles, peanuts, cucumber, mostly) nice idea but there was no real flavor. And the crab was bland. Needed some sauce, definitely not the best execution for a restaurant with rave reviews. He got the steak, also Vietnamese style, on a multigrain crepe with a pickled veggie salad, with mostly cubes of cucumber, again not much flavor. The steak was too rare, the quality was good but there was no seasoning or flavor. Served with a citrus sauce, that tasted like Hellmans Mayonaisse. For 100 dollar meal, i was let down, we were done eating by 700pm and had to wait around for our show to begin at the Town Crier at 830. Definitely not a relaxing , fine meal. We tried out this restaurant after hearing and reading about it for quite a while. I admit to going in for my husband, being concerned that the menu was a bit too eclectic for me. I was wrong. It was fabulous! The service was great, very attentive, and the food was fantastic. I had the brisket grilled cheese, which I would certainly go back for. My husband had the duck special, which he also loved. We started with an appetizer and ended with the dessert. A french press brought to the table with dessert added to the pleasure of this dining experience.Because it was a quiet Wednesday night, we were seated immediately. I have read that it can be sometimes hard to get a table as the restaurant is quite small. I would happily return and try more of this wonderful menu. read more

Came here for 1 out of our 2 dinners visiting beacon for the first time from NYC. We came for their Monday night dinner special: $15 for 3 pieces of fried chicken, Cole slaw, Mac and. Cheese and a home made cookie. The place is small, intimate with only a few tables in the front. Apparently there is a cute backyard but we didn't see it. 2 of the tables have seating in the windowsill which was cute. The fried chicken was very juicy on the inside and the outside was very crunchy and flavorful. Mac and cheese had cheese its crumbled on top which was inventive. Cole slaw was not too mayonnaisy which I liked. The cookie was out of this world, soft and not hot but somehow the chocolate melted as soon as you took a bite. It was sweet and salty, a perfect combination of flavors. Overall the service was good, staff was friendly, service was quick. I would definately recommend this place especially for this delicious Monday night deal. I bet we would have gone back for another meal if we had more time. read more

After hearing all of the reviews, I was very excited to try this place. However, the excitement faded after my first couple of bites. I had the roasted chicken and my friend had the brisket grilled cheese. My chicken was incredibly chewy and dry and the grilled cheese, let's just say, there was barely any brisket and it was all onions. I thought that I might have better luck with desserts but again, I was sorely disappointed. I ordered the chocolate cake that was infused with coffee and yet, there was little coffee to be found and the cake itself was as incredibly dry. I am not picky about my food, but after experiencing the food tonight, I know that I would never return to Kitchen Sink. read more

We've been here twice now and the menu was different both times. The offerings were exceptional. Just starting the the "everything" focaccia, the meal at KS satisfies in a way that few restaurants have the ability to. The broccoli rabe and ramps were outstanding. The mussels and latke was phenomenal! The soft shell crab special was a beautiful mound of mouthwatering greatness. Plated with their take on panzanella, this was worth every cent.
