BCD Tofu House honestly never disappoints. My friends and I have made so many little road trips here just to get Korean food, and it's always worth it every time. The servers are so nice and attentive. They're always checking in on the tables and making sure everything is taken care of, whether it's refilling water or bringing more banchan without us even having to ask. The service feels really thoughtful and welcoming, especially when the restaurant gets busy. Their banchan are seriously so good, especially the cucumber and fish cakes, which are always my favorites out of all the side dishes. I could honestly keep eating refills of those alone. We got the seafood and assorted tofu soups along with the seafood pancake as an appetizer. This was actually my first time trying their seafood pancake, and it was delicious. It came out crispy on the outside while still soft inside, packed with seafood and flavor, and honestly was enough to feed about four people. The tofu soup was perfect too. It came out still bubbling hot, but once it cooled down a little it was so comforting and flavorful. It's the type of meal that genuinely feels like it heals your soul after a long day. I think this is definitely going to be one of the things I miss most when I leave SoCal, those random road trips with friends just to get good food. The soon tofu that comes with the combo is a little smaller. The kalbi portion was a good size, so we were able to share it amongst two people. Everything was really tasty. BCD has literally never let me down when my late night cravings hit. It was such a great staple when i was in college and still is. the LA galbi here is still one of the best i've had, and the soondubu is so yummy and comforting. the service at the irvine location is also great, they are always quick to refill our banchan and provide us with anything else that we need (scissors for cutting the meat, etc). Ofc, the line is always super long especially at dinner time until closing but I've always found that the queue moves pretty fast and never had to wait more than 30 mins. Came on a Sunday night around 10 PM, and we still had to wait 30 minutes to get seated. We joined on the Yelp Waitlist Stand that was placed outside, but you can join the Waitlist from far away...we totally forgot. Make sure you remember to join the Yelp Waitlist while you're 20-30 min away!!!! BCD provides small dishes (ban chan) as do most soondobu spots, with around 6 small dishes. They also provide fried fish which is so good! I think it's pretty rare to see other spots provide fried fish. Regarding small dishes, the service was so good. I've never had my small dishes refilled that many times and that quickly. 10/10 for service and the speed of refills. Beef Soondobu (10/10, $17) - As good as it gets. This is legit soondobu, a gold standard spot, with plenty of beef, tofu, and soup - Got the medium spicy level, which was totally manageable, and I'm pretty weak in terms of spice usually - Rice is initially scooped out of a stone pot, super traditional, also super delicious Overall, totally recommend this BCD. Went for Tuesday lunch and there was no wait. We were greeted immediately and sat at promptly. Ordered the LA galbi combo and the side dishes along with the food came out without much wait. I was pleasantly surprised by the side dishes which included croaker along with your typical fish cakes and kimchi. The LA galbi was tender, well marinated, perfectly cooked. It wasn't chewy or dry. The soup had good sized chunks of tofu with a good firmness, bounce and texture. The shrimp in the soup wasn't the freshest and they did skimp out on the quantity of toppings, but the service and speed of service made up for it. Currently a favorite for tofu soups in the area. That hit the spot! We (party of 3) came for lunch at around 12p on a Friday afternoon, and it was definitely packed. As expected we hoped too join the waitlist and get seated asap, and thankfully after about 20 min, our table was ready. The time estimate on their yelp waitlist is pretty accurate! Their service is really efficient, and if you know what you want to order, you can pretty much expect to get your food within the first 5-10 minutes of sitting down. Three of us shared two tofu combos with galbi, and we also added a third tofu soup. That was plenty of food, especially for lunch. The rice came out almost instantly. They scooped it out into a bowl for you and then poured the hot tea in the rice bowl, to loosen up the remaining rice on the sides of the stone pot. The banchan (side dishes) were also served instantly. The tofu came out first but the galbi took maybe a few minutes longer. We all got the intestine tofu soup, and that was probably the best choice I have made in a while... HAHA! If you like chewy textures like tendon, then this is the right one to choose. The intestines absorbed so much of the flavors of the broth (we got mild spice; slight kick). Don't forget to crack open the egg into your tofu soup so it cooks while it is still hot!
