love coming to mr bbq jr for their lunch ayce! it's only $23.99 until 4pm which is such a good deal. this location is a smaller version of the mr bbq in fullerton with a smaller menu but it's just as good! it's located the district by the amc theater. parking fills up fast here because of all the stores so we sometimes have to go around a few times to find a spot. the restaurant is a good size with many tables for parties. they have a nice mural on one side of the wall. whenever we come in during lunch time on fridays there is no wait and we're able to get seated right away. they have an ipad at your table where you can order from. i especially love the sides here. the brisket and beef belly are always good! service is fast and they always refill our salad without us having to ask. my favorite ayce kbbq spot!
The good! - meat quality was good enough, so many sides to choose from, ice cream at the end is a plus too! The bad - not a lot of selections of beef, the banchan were all atrocious, the steamed egg was way overcooked and dry, you can only order 4 items at a time (this could be an issue w a larger group) Overall, for the price point I'd say it's worth a try but probably won't be back.
I must say, the service here was top-tier. The brisket and beef belly were so good and tasted incredibly fresh. All of the side dishes were delicious, and our server was very attentive and efficient. I would definitely come back! The bulgogi fries were also pretty good, especially because the fries had a super crunchy texture.
Came here last Friday for lunch with my two boys and tried their $23.99 lunch special (Monday-Friday). We got here before noon, shortly after they opened at 11:30, but unfortunately missed the chance to join the waitlist outside by a hair! A rush of people came in around the same time, and our estimated 5-minute wait quickly turned into almost an hour. So definitely make sure you join the waitlist as soon as you arrive! The guy at the front, I believe his name was Stu, was really nice and seemed to genuinely enjoy his job. He was professional, accommodating, and kept checking on us throughout the wait ( and when we were seated! ) I also had my stroller with me for my 4-month-old, and he made sure we got a table that worked perfectly for us. No wonder this place is called Mr. BBQ Jr. It's definitely much smaller than the Fullerton location, and the menu is more limited as well, including the dinner menu. Once we were seated, service was great. You order the appetizers and meats through the iPad at the table, while drinks are ordered through your waiter. Our waiter was also friendly, professional, and attentive. The banchan was great, as always! The meat selection for lunch was okay, but if you're like me and mainly just want beef belly, you'll probably be happy. I ordered rice as well, but unfortunately it tasted a little undercooked for our taste. Overall, I'd definitely come back to this location with a friend. However, my husband and guy friends probably wouldn't be as impressed since the meat selection is more limited compared to the Fullerton location. Still, a solid lunch ! And they don't charge kids under 4 which was great for my 3 year old
One of my FAV AYCE Korean BBQ places of all time!!! I was super stoked when I heard they opened a "junior" location at The District at Tustin Legacy (near my house), cuz that meant I no longer have to drive all the way to their OG location in Fullerton. Yay! Conveniently located right next to the AMC theater, Mr. BBQ Jr. took over the spacious location of a previous AYCE KBBQ joint. With their signature bright decor, the space feels lively and fun. The hubs, my daughter, and I decided to stop by and try the new location on a Friday afternoon. We opt'd for an early dinner (around 5ish) to avoid the long wait & crowds. I love that you can join the live waitlist through the Yelp app, which saves so much time. Once we got there, we were seated pretty quickly. Service was super efficient ~ kudos to the team! The AYCE dinner was $31.99 a person, which I though was a great deal considering the quality of the meats and the variety of K-street eats, soups & noodz options. Everything we tried was BOMB ~ from the corn cheese, mandoo (dumplings), and shrimp tempura, to the spicy tofu soup, fluffy steamed egg, & spicy Buldak ramen. Even all the banchan side dishes, which are made fresh daily, were YUMS! A total RxFoodie recommend, and my fam will definitely be back soon whenever we need to satisfy our KBBQ cravings!

Apologized for us waiting, even though we had only been waiting for less than 3 minutes. Food is ordered via a tablet mounted at the table. Banchans are delivered to the table and refilled upon request. Even though drinks are on the tablet, you order your drinks with the staff. Although the selection of meats was very limited, still had plenty to choose from. And the food was good. We arrived about 11:45am, 15 minutes after it opened. So it wasn't super packed. But there were already 5 or 6 tables occupied. Noise level was very minimal. And there wasn't loud club music like the original Mr BBQ in Fullerton. We could for the most part talking without yelling at each other. Solid 8.5/10 overall.

I'll admit I went into Mr. BBQ Jr. with some preconceived negative biases. I hate going to The District, and because this is the "Jr." version of Mr. BBQ, I assumed the selection would be limited. I was wrong. The meat quality was very good and everything we tried was flavorful. I also realized that as much as I think I want a massive KBBQ menu, I end up going back to the same few things anyway. They had more than enough variety for me, including squid, which I really liked. They don't have the traditional bone-in galbi ribs, but they do have beef in a similar galbi marinade and it was every bit as satisfying. They have intestines, which I am not a fan of, but I wish they had tripe. Hardly anyone has that anymore and they could be different by incorporating it Service was excellent. Everyone was genuinely friendly and they were constantly coming by to refill banchan, sauces, drinks, and anything else we needed. You order from a tablet right at the table, which I really liked because you aren't sitting around trying to flag someone down when you want another round. Food came out fast and the whole process worked really well. The cooked non-meat sides were just okay, but honestly, that's not why I'm going to Korean BBQ. I did like the banchan and the sauces. My only real complaints are about the atmosphere. The music was louder than I would prefer and at times the playlist felt more like something you'd hear at a strip club than while eating Korean BBQ. And this isn't unique to Mr. BBQ Jr., but what is the deal with the tiny water cups at Korean restaurants? Give me a normal-sized glass of water so I don't need a refill every 2 minutes. Yes they give you a pitcher, but the cups are tiny and would work well in doll house displays. Those are minor complaints. The things that matter most to me at KBBQ are meat quality, flavor, service, and how quickly I can get more food, and Mr. BBQ Jr. delivered on all of them. I went in expecting to be disappointed and left impressed. Five stars and I'll definitely be back.
We went to Mr BBQ Jr without any expectations and honestly didn't know what we were getting into. It turned out to be a really pleasant surprise, with excellent meat, amazing service, and a bit of a unique menu that made the meal more interesting than your typical KBBQ experience. I don't usually order marinated meats, but we had to try the namesake Mr. BBQ, which reminded me of kalbi. It was really good having a great balance of savory and slightly sweet flavors without being overly sauced. The biggest surprise was the large intestine. Not many places offer it, and even fewer do it well, but this was excellent. We also tried the tacos and bao buns, where I preferred the bulgogi over the pork. They were nice to try, but I won't bother with them next time so I can save the stomach space. The Korean fried chicken was fine, while the kimchi fried rice was probably the weakest part of the meal and didn't leave much of an impression. Service was easily one of the highlights. Everyone was attentive, friendly, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure we were having a good experience. The manager in particular checked in on us several times throughout the meal and was incredibly friendly. It's the kind of service that makes you feel welcomed rather than simply taken care of, and it really elevated the experience. Overall, Mr BBQ Jr was a great find. We went in not knowing what to expect and left thoroughly impressed. The large intestine alone is enough to bring me back, but with so much more on the menu to try, I'm already looking forward to the next visit.
We want to try this place since it is newly establishment. It is located in Tustin district next to the movie theater. I love the graphic on the wall, it has a a modern artsy vibe. In term of service, our server Jacob was great. Checking in on us and very friendly. You order through an iPad at the table. It is easier, but they do have a 5 min interval between order. Since we opt for the lunch menu, there is not much selection of beef. However, their beef belly and brisket are perfectly cut and cook well. Tender and not chewy. We didn't like the bulgogi, however. The texture is like ground beef texture not like slice if you know what I mean. Love their salad and I like how they have more Banchan and soup selection. For $24, all you can eat for lunch, it is not a bad deal. They also give out melona ice-cream after the meal. We would definitely comeback.
We decided to have dinner here on Friday. The service was excellent, very attentive, and prompt. The restaurant is clean, bright, and spacious, and the quality of the meat is good. However, I felt that the variety of side dishes was somewhat lacking compared to what I typically find at all-you-can-eat barbecue restaurants. I do enjoy the location, as it is convenient to visit nearby shops for boba after dinner.
We've been here two times so far and so far, this is our favorite Korean Bbq Place in Tustin and Irvine! Quality of the meat is so amazing and the price is also very reasonable! Service all throughout was great! our host was amazing and kind and all the other servers and staff were very friendly! Ron is so kind and attentive! He really made our dinner enjoyable! Meat selection is smaller than most all you can eat restaurants but for good reason. The quality of the meat is very good! Highly recommend! Thank you!
Honestly, Mr BBQ Jr in Tustin was a bit of a letdown. I'd give it 3 stars at best. The biggest issue is the meat quality just isn't really there. For a BBQ spot, the cuts were pretty underwhelming, and the portions felt pretty small for what you're paying. On top of that, the whole vibe felt super Americanized. It didn't really have that authentic, smoky, loud energy you want from a real KBBQ joint--it felt more like a polished American dining room that happens to have grills on the tables. If you just need a quick, convenient spot at The District with easy parking, it's fine, but if you're looking for legit meat quality and a real KBBQ feel, you're better off heading somewhere else.

The food was amazing, and all the servers were very kind. I hadn't been here before this time, but the restaurant was clean and the environment was very welcoming. It's clear all the staff care about the establishment and you can feel it. Servers were responsive, always checking up on us, and as previously stated the food was very good. For $32.99, it has unbeatable quality in OC and I will definitely be back. read more

My family and I had an amazing experience here and it was our first time. This is located inside the District we came here Friday evening, the parking was crowded and we were able to grab a table fairly quick. As soon as we got seated this place got busy within 20 minutes. The service was impeccable here, the staff were great, and they change out the grills so fast. AYCE, big tables with two iPads on both ends to order. The meats were fresh and came out quick. The street eats were tasty, we ordered them just to try. My kids enjoyed their ice cream and the food. The staff were very accommodating to my youngest she wanted ramen, but on the menu it's only spicy flavors. We asked them if they can make it non-spicy for her, and our waiter was able to make it happen. The only food we were not a fan of was the bao buns parts of it were a bit hard. Truly best experience here, love their modern design to the restaurant too. read more

Came here on a saturday and waited an hour, but it was nice to see what all the hype was about. The servers were very welcomkng and checked up frequently, and everything came out super fast. I would say the sides and normal meats were mediocre and nothing to write home about- dry ish brisket and the egg was deflated and a bit sad. The cheesy ramen was also lukewarm, so the cheese stayed unmelted. The marinated meats were great though, super flavorful and tender. And what the sides lacked in finesse was made up for in variety, there's a lot of different dishes and portions were nicely sized with half order options so that you can try everything. Overall though this isn't meant to be the pinnacle of kbbq- the price point is 31.99 for dinner and the place is casual and homely. I'd definitely recommend this for people looking for a quick and not trashy kbbq hit. read more
Checked out this new Korean BBQ spot at The District right next to the AMC theaters which is a great location to grab grub right after a flick! I like the vibe of the place since it feels very modern and fun with art on the walls and the helpful touchscreens where you can order all your food. This place breaks away from traditional Korean BBQ with choices like tacos, Chinese Buns and Bulgogi fries as part of their AYCE menu so I dig their all around funky concept. Service was very friendly and incredibly fast so you can expect to be done with your meal within an hour if necessary, even when it's busy! Meat selection can be better, especially with the beef, having only 3-4 choices but overall great experience! read more

I had such a great experience at this place! We came at 9 PM on a Thursday night and it was surprisingly busy, but didn't wait no more than 10 minutes. Stu was the host who initially greeted us and he had such a welcoming and fun vibe that really set the tone for our dinner! There were still a good variety of meats, appetizers, and sides despite being a smaller menu of the original Mr. BBQ. The plates were decently portioned and you had the option to do half-orders. They had interesting appetizer and hot sides options like kimchi fried rice, mandu, buldak, and chapaghetti. It was nice to order on an iPad to see the photos. The meat came so fast! It was really fresh quality throughout rounds. Our server, Tania, was so attentive with changing our grill. You get free ice cream at the end too! We got a whole Melona stick! I haven't had Mr. BBQ in a few years so I can't really compare the two, but nonetheless the quality and service was great! read more
Mr BBQ is always a good time! Just found out that this Mr BBQ Jr exists at The District and had to check it out. I love Mr BBQ in Fullerton so I figured it would be quality. The dining area is clean and nicely decorated. It's a bit small so there might be a longer wait than other locations depending on the time. I was here at 7pm on a Thursday, was told maybe 20 minutes but it ended up only being about 5 minutes. Staff was friendly and quick with everything. They have a smaller selection of meats and other items than their larger location, but the selection they have is very good! We got some Wagyu beef belly, brisket, garlic honey pork belly, marinated boneless short rib (Mr BBQ special), and bulgogi. All of the meats were good quality and brought out quickly. I absolutely loved the garlic honey pork belly. It caramelizes on the grill perfectly and tastes soooo good! We also got some corn cheese, steamed egg, ramyun, and fried chicken. The ramyun is Buldak brand so even the regular one is spicy but so good! The fried chicken was perfectly crunchy and the perfect size for a side dish that doesn't ruin your appetite. All the banchan was good as well. If you're in the Tustin area make sure to check them out! read more
Guess this is a new Korean bbq so we thought we'd try it at lunch. This location has turned over quite a few times in the years. Came here before when it was another Korean bbq place. It wasn't overly crowded which was nice. Service is also good. I really enjoyed all their bonchons which were really good. As for the meats though, I like the short ribs which they do not have. They have marinated pork rib but it wasn't the same at all. The brisket was ok and the wagyu one was a little on the fatty side. Not as many options as other locations so that's why lunch is a little cheaper. However for the price, I'd stick to my other place. SYOY! read more

Came here on a sunday for a birthday. All the sides were cool, they do have fish cake which is rare nowadays. The salad good and refreshing. I enjoy the corn cheese. Great service here. Meat wise, the only thing good/ bomb was the beef belly and 2nd was brisket. Everything else was ok. For $32 I guess cant complain too much. If you come here strictly for beef belly and brisket you'll be cool. They do give a scoop of ice cream at the end which was nice, cookies and cream or rainbow sherbet. read more
If you enjoy the original Mr. BBQ in Fullerton then you may want to check this Jr. version out. I came with 3 other people for lunch. We came around noon on a weekend and it was busy but no wait. When we left later there was lots of people waiting. I was told by our server that Mr. BBQ Jr is similar although they have less meat options but more appetizer options. You order on the kiosk with 4 items maximum and I believe they give you 10 mins before you can order again. Some of the meats were hit or miss. Some were good but some meats ended up being very chewy. I did like that they offer way more appetizer options such as buldak noodles, lots of sides/banchan, corn cheese, kimchi fried rice, fried chicken, and baos. At the end they even have Melona popsicles to end your meal with. Our service was excellent. The foods came out quick, our grill was constantly changed, and the waiter answered all our questions. They were pretty attentive. The inside looks same as ziip since they took over it. It is located right by the movie theater. read more
I finally decided to check this spot out with some cousins and a friend (party of 4) on Father's Day of all days haha. We were quoted an hour wait since it was full house but there was only a party of 6. Hostess apologized and everything but we completely understood. We instead checked out the Sunday Farmers Market which I really recommend if you're in the District / Tustin area. We arrived around 12pm and was called around 12:45pm. Not bad considering the day! Peter, our waiter, checked in on us and explained it was dinner option all day and took our orders for rice. This place has iPads at the tables where you can put in your meat orders; I believe you can order up 3 appetizers and 4 meats at a time every 5 minutes. Also I don't think there's a time limit set here on how long you can stay (which may change cause of us haha). I noticed on the menu it doesn't include any of the premium options that you would typically see at kbbq locations which most likely explains the $33 price per head for the dinner option. But nonetheless we were ready to dig in and put in our first order of 2 orders of brisket and 2 beef belly. So the beef belly here was amazing! Hands down my favorite meat served here.The brisket was delicious too! We downed those quick and put in a next order of more beef belly and their pork jowl. Pork jowl came lightly salted with enough pieces that fed our party of 4. That was delicious too! Our other orders consisted of the mussels, shrimp, and their signature Mr bbq meat. The mussels and shrimp were great! The Mr bbq meat was good. Wasn't my favorite though but I would say the marinade used was awesome. Our waiter checked on us constantly as well as the other staff refilling the water that was provided. After our beef belly eating competition (I swear me and my cousin really get into it haha), our waiter said they offered icecream in the end. We picked our flavors and he came back with the check and the melona icecream which was the cherry on top of our meal. We paid around $40 for each of us tip included which imho is an absolute steal for the quality of meats and the service. Peter said he would make us a secret sauce if we see him next time which I will have to come back for. Peter and the staff here were all awesome! To sum it all up, this place is definitely the place to get your Korean bbq fix. Keep in mind, they don't offer premium options like beef tongue, galbi, etc though but nonetheless the meats offered here were delicious! Definitely check it out! read more

We went here for father's day. We were expecting a long wait so we signed on the waitlist on yelp which was very helpful. Checked in withbthem when we arrived and was seated at our table. Restaurant had a fun vibe to it with the fun paintings on the wall. It was clean and modern. You get to your table, they give you all the sides, water and order through the Ipad on the table. We ordered kimchi fried rice (yum), tempura (yum too), bulgogi fries, korean fried chicken, steamed egg, beef belly, brisket, pork belly, kalbi, marinated honey garlic pork belly. Food came fast and everything was delicious but our fave was the beef belly. Sliced thin and cook it a but crispy and dip in their house sauce and chili. What a great bite! The meal came with an ice cream Popsicle too at the end! Perfect ending to a scrumptious meal! Service was great. We had a very good experience and plan to go back. read more
I came in for lunch before going to work and was totally pleased. I've always wanted to try the Mr BBQ in Fullerton and now I want to go even more. The service is great. They kept coming to change my grill. You order everything from a tablet at your table and in no time your food is there. They don't have as many meats as some places, but what they do have is really good. They even give you a popsicle. read more

We came at around 9:40 and were told 20 minutes, which is fine. But then we heard from 2 other parties that they had been waiting 1 hour. We looked inside to see 6 tables empty just not cleaned. I saw a party come in and complain and then all the sudden after some headset communication it looked like the staff had an urgency to clean. Still standing here at 10:15 and only 1 table has been bussed. I understand maybe having only one bus person, but everyone was just standing around. No urgency to clean the tables. There was about 5 staff members just standing around chitchatting. Post experience: The food was just average. The brisket was already dry, but somehow the beef belly was also dry. The cut of ribeye and large intestine were good. I will try to describe this the best I can. Staff was really friendly, but the service was absolute a**. Table we were sat at was not prepared. We ended up asking for everything including tongs and scissors. We were told last call, then when asked what we'd like to put in we said pork jowl, then our server told us actually the kitchen closed a few seconds ago. Keep in mind this was a pork jowl order we had ordered on their iPad system that never came out. After we explained that the server found us a side of it from the back. We ordered Korean fried chicken and it came out a little undercooked. I'm not sure if this was supposed to be a sister restaurant to the Mr Bbq in Fullerton, but this place is nothing like it. This Kbbq spot replaced another here at Tustin District. There's a weekday lunch special that we saw on social media for $23.99 pp, but that doesn't apply on Fridays. Service was friendly and we were seated pretty quickly, although I can imagine quite a bit of wait if there's no open tables. The interior was clean and spacious. Getting the food might take a while when they're busy. We got the usual, corn cheese, steamed egg, kimchi fried rice, and of course, beef belly, pork belly and brisket to grill. Quality is pretty good and standard. The meat selection isn't extensive like some other places, but all we needed were the core items so we were satisfied. Service was great though and our server and host/hostess were so attentive and nice This used to be zips kbbq and I think they just kept everything more or less the same. The meats here were okay but I think the big selling point here were the Korean street foods. My favorite things were some of those foods and the sides. But I feel like if I'm going to Korean bbq, the meat should stand out. They did not have boneless short rib, beef tongue, or scallop. The Mr bbq cut I think was the marinated galbi but it wasn't that well marbled. Favorite was pork jowl but I love that so it's unfair. Brisket was too lean. Beef belly too fatty. Mr. BBQ Jr is an AYCE KBBQ restaurant that recently opened at The District in Tustin. It's a "junior" to the bigger and original location in Fullerton which is meant to be a more approachable and affordable option. There is ample free parking at the mall. The lunch option is $23.99 and the dinner/weekend option is $33.99. We came right when they opened and were seated immediately but there's a Yelp waitlist you can utilize during busier times. After you get seated you order your food and drinks from an iPad. There are pages of meat, sides, and soups/noodles to order from. Out of the meats we ordered my favorites were the bulgogi, pork galbi, and mr bbq. Out of the sides my favorites were the bulgogi fries, Korean fried chicken, and corn cheese. Unfortunately they didn't have some KBBQ classics like beef galbi and steamed egg but I guess that's what makes this location "junior". In a way I do see that it makes the ordering process easier and simpler without the overwhelming amount of options but I still wish there were certain dishes that I usually go for at KBBQ restaurants. What a great unexpected find! We weren't even planning to eat at Mr. BBQ. We were actually on our way somewhere else, saw the restaurant, and decided to stop in for lunch. We ended up having such a great experience. We will be back with the kids soon. So on top of the disco ball putting spotlights on my husband's white T shirt :-)... From the moment we walked in, Stu was incredibly welcoming and made us feel like regulars. He was warm, personable, and genuinely seemed happy to have us there. But what really impressed me was when we came back in, he called us by our names. That little detail really stood out. It's rare to get that kind of personal service, and it makes a difference for your first visit. Our server, Daniel, was also fantastic. He knew the menu really well and was honest about what we should try. He even gave us tips on how to pace our AYCE meal so we wouldn't fill up too quickly. That made such a difference because we were able to try so many things without over-ordering or getting overwhelmed. We didn't waste anything that came to the table. Thanks Daniel! And speaking of the AYCE lunch...I was impressed by how much was included. It's not just BBQ. We had appetizers, meats, noodles, soups, and even dessert. I've never had an AYCE Korean BBQ lunch with all the main meats we like most at this price. By the end, we were SO full! The little scoop of sherbet or cookies-and-cream ice cream was the perfect ending. The food was really good, Daniel took great care of us and Stu made this experience memorable. When someone remembers your name and makes you feel welcome enough that you want to come back, that's worth recognizing.
