The service from the bartenders was not so great or welcoming. When I asked about the espresso martini and asked for it without lavender, the bartender made way too big of a deal. The espresso martini is pre-made. I opted for a vodka soda and it was pretty hard to drink. The menu feels limited. They do not have pineapple, Red Bull, or many other popular mixes. Positively, prices are very good, especially compared to the other bars in the area. I would like to go back and try the food because it smelled amazing and hopefully find something better to drink on the menu that I like!

There's a back area, sort of like a dinning room, with little booths for those wishing for some privacy. The red lights gives the bar that good old 1920s (prohibition) feel. I felt at any moment the authorities would swing through the door forcing us to hide our drinks. **Wild thoughts** Kyle made a cocktail he's "been working on" and he needs to put that shxt on the menu asap! So delicious. It was late night and I stayed here about an hour (closed the spot ha) and I was able to enjoy a mini impromptu concert by another patron Ebony, as Kyle was sweet enough to play some of her music. All in all, a perfect end to my evening. High recommendation for Rye. The End.

I couldn't tell if it was bad catfish or simply undercooked, but the batter inside was mushy and unpleasant, and I couldn't eat most of it. The salad was heavily overdressed and nearly inedible. Bread was also missing, despite being advertised as part of the restaurant week menu. The cookies were mediocre, and the $4 canned soda was disappointing, especially since I wasn't told it was canned and wouldn't have ordered it had I known. Another red flag: no malt vinegar available for fish and chips, with white vinegar offered instead (which kind of says it all). Service was attentive, and the portions could be a good deal if you can tolerate the food, but I won't be returning.

No bartender in sight, no other patrons, no background noise. For a moment, we genuinely wondered if we were in the right place. The bar is down a flight of stairs, tucked into the basement, and it's notable because it's Fells Point's only and possibly first basement bar, which already gives it serious character points. We waited near the bar for a few minutes, heard nothing, saw no one, and eventually started heading back up the stairs to leave. That's when Steve, the bartender, literally came after usnot in a weird way, but in a very human, "Hey! Sorry about that, I was in the stock room come back in!" way. And honestly? From that moment on, the experience completely flipped. Steve was phenomenal. Friendly, welcoming, deeply knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the place. He's worked there for 18 years, and once we sat down, he turned the bar into a living history lesson. He shared stories about Fells Point, Baltimore, Edgar Allan Poe, the building itself, and all the ghost stories tied to the space. He also told us about the celebrities who've passed through, including the fun detail that Blake Shelton once sat in the very bar stool I was sitting in and ordered a Bullet bourbon. Naturally, that kind of trivia just adds to the charm. Drink-wise, I ordered an Angry Orchard, and my friend had a single Tito's with cranberry and soda water. Our total was $26.16, which feels pretty standard for Baltimore definitely not cheap, but not shocking either. The bar itself is small, intimate, and packed with atmosphere exposed brick, low ceilings, and that cozy, historic, slightly haunted vibe you hope for in a basement bar. It's also connected to The William Fell Inn hotel through a separate entrance, which makes it feel like a hidden secret rather than a tourist stop. We loved the history, the stories, the ghosts, the setting and especially Steve. Being the only patrons that night was actually a gift, because it let us really soak it all in. That said, we're absolutely planning to come back on a busy night to see how the energy shifts when it's full. If you love historic bars, good storytelling, and places that feel like they've seen things Anchor Bar is a must. ‍

You can also easily access Waterfront Hotel from the back of the bar. However, the vibes are good inside. It's dark and loud but cozy and cute. The espresso martinis are amazing and the bartenders are very nice and make incredible drinks. There's a cute photo-op at the back of the bar. I can't wait to go back to the bar with my friends and make it one of our go-to spots.

The bartender's attitude was super off putting about it too which was the worst part. Aside from this he was actually really cool and did ask if we had any music requests. Overall, the deals are great and they also had beer pong set up. The music this night was 70s/80s throwback banger vibe.

We enjoyed some food as well. They have a very limited food menu, which is fine, got the smash burger and husband got the yard bird. We both liked both! My favorite right now is the Cheerwine Rickey (American gin, lime, cherry soda, sweet vermouth). They also offer a very small menu Wednesday-Saturday nights. I can highly recommend the Smashburger and curly fries.
