I had really high hopes for this restaurant since it is located in downtown Lafayette. We walked in and waited for a few minutes before someone came over and greeted us. It was nice that this place had air conditioning on a hot day. I wish that our server would come more often to refill our water. The water was served on a tiny cup. I finished one cup in less than 4 seconds. I did not enjoy the burger and fries that were served. The fries were cold, soggy, and not crispy at all. Dropped in for Mother's Day and was a lil disappointed. They had such great reviews so I had really high expectations of what the food would be like. I ordered the sliders and they were super dry with barely any flavor to them at all. We also shared an order of fries and they were oddly sweet which I greatly dislike when they season them in that way. So if you love that you'll probably love them. That says a great deal that you can order five random meals and knock them all out of the park on a Saturday afternoon. Pros, Pros, Pros : The kids tenders and fries - my son loved it. Especially the fries Kids cheeseburger and fries - the burgers is a double slider with white cheddar and was fresh & delicious. Sushi sandwhich - though the wasabi was hot for my teenage son he said he will definitely order it again. Salmon Po boy - very well seasoned. My daughter was not a fan of capers but the flavor profile was otherwise on point. And again- loved the fries. BBQ pork sandwich - I need to know what's in that bbq sauce. It's amazing. My sandwich was so packed with meat it was unreal. AND... to top it off we had the lavender and the peach non- alcoholic drinks. Two banana and one vanilla shake. The banana shake has banana bits in it! Desert- Bread pudding with a side of custard. Best bread pudding I've ever tasted in my LIFE! The customer service was fine as well were the drinks and mostly the food. I was impressed with their Pirate's Poison drink. I received it in a tiki glass with accompanying fruit and umbrella. It's a perfect drink for any hot day or anyone with a pirate's virtue. The fish n chips with the garlic fries were tremendously well crafted. I now have a new top of the list garlic fries that any future selection has to dethrone. Our main complaint which we chose not to disclose was the taste of their Lower East Side pastrami sandwich. All that could be tasted was black pepper. Either the sandwich was ill prepared or everyone on the lower East side liked pepper. In any case, we consumed half of the sandwich before making our conclusion. I look forward to returning to this eatery for they had many fine dishes, had a brunch which we just missed but was obviously popular with the patrons, and have a Tuesday special I long to try. I've had a bit of a renaissance with Batch and Brine recently. When I moved here years ago, I was a big fan given the restaurant's family-friendly nature, good cocktails and pretty good food. My love affair hit a lull over the last few years - I felt like the food took a hit. However, it's once again become a regular go-to restaurant for my family in the last few months. I was so excited when I realized that the food has returned to being consistently pretty good. I'm also a huge fan of their happy hour. I love to take my kiddo there for a "date." We order pretty much everything off the happy hour menu, play games and chit-chat. It's the perfect kid date spot. :) In terms of what to order, I'll start with cocktails first. I love a spicy cocktail, so the Serrano Mi Hermano and Strawpeno are my top two favs. They also make a great spicy skinny margarita. (I'll note that they also make boozy milk shakes, which sounds so enticing though I've yet to order one.) For food, I usually get the Nashville hot chicken salad, the fattoush salad or a fried chicken sandwich. We also LOVE their pretzel. Stopped by here for lunch to try something new and had a great time! They have lots of great IPAs on tap ( as well as cocktails, Mocktails ) so we tried some flights of local beers. Then we tried several different appetizers- the fried Burrata: that was good but I think I will still to regular Burrata moving forward; Ahi tacos - very good and I loved the red cabbage slaw, pretzel and the garlic fries which were my personal favorite. Batch and Brine is another big, gastropub in downtown Lafayette, right across from Social Bird. You can almost call it Burgers and Booze with its huge drink menu and array of burgers and sandwiches. We came here for lunch after a morning hike around Lafayette Reservoir. Very laid-back, friendly vibe with graffiti-like wall art everywhere including bathrooms. Several flatscreens showing MLB baseball so the place also works as a sports bar. For drinks, I enjoy Express Ya Self, a boozy cold brew martini with a hint of citrus. Not sure if the net effect is to stimulate or chill, but it was very refreshing. 5 stars. The kid's cheeseburger is always cooked well done per house rules. It was small in diameter like a slider but comes with two patties. Decent burger and crispy fries (4 stars) Wife got Chicken Au Poivre with the peppery dipping saice in the side. Meat was moist and cheese and mushrooms always elevate any burger dish. Note chicken may be substituted for any beef burger on the menu. (4 stars) I got the Philly Cheesesteak, with the cheese sauce on the side. Interesting concept and different than the melted, stickier versions. I liked it since you're able to control the cheesiness, and 100% is not always optimal for me. (4 stars) Between B&B and Social Bird across the street you really can't go wrong. B&B is probably better for drinks and more varieties of burger while Social Bird is probably better for seafood entrees and salads. read more

This is a good place for happy hour, especially on Fridays since Social Bird doesn't have it (but only sad because I'm always craving $1 oysters on Fridays...) I love coming on sunny afternoons since they have a nice patio. In my opinion, Batch & Brine has the best cocktails in the area. The Ideal Pear and Passion Sour are two of my favorites. I also like the taquitos... I only wish that they had spicier salsa! I've been here once for dinner, and it was on a Taco Tuesday... and I tried their tacos, but wasn't impressed. Atmosphere was really nice and they have done a good job with noise dampeners to keep the volume at a level where conversation was easy. Enough TV's but not so many that it feels like a sports bar. The bar area looks like a great spot for a cocktail. Our server was awesome, and the food was crazy good. The pastrami blew my mind, as did the chicken fried steak. Nice list of local beers. We look forward to coming back and trying their burgers and cocktails. Parking can take a bit, but it's well worth it. Keep in mind that for parties of 6+ they add a 20% tip. I decided to dine here at Batch & Brine after my hike at Lafayette Reservoir. Why not have a burger after a long hike I may ask? This is one of the great places to stop by and hangout with your friends after a long day. The atmosphere is very overwhelming because of how nice this place looks with seats outside for a chill/warm weather. The staff are very friendly and respectful when they took my order. I got the "Blue" Burger and they added a lot of blue dressing. The fries are a bit salty, but that's fine. Overall, this is a great burger place and will definitely come back! Suggestion: I noticed on the menu that all burgers and sandwiches come from one section called "Burgers and Sandwiches". They should either separate burgers and sandwiches into two sections or include burger/sandwich in the foods' descriptions. We returned tonight for dinner and enjoyed everything! Staff and service is very friendly and attentive. This restaurant is kid and pet friendly which makes the crowd fun! Cocktails and food arrived quickly. Delish, fresh flavors all around. We each agreed though our dishes needed a little more seasoning and or heat.
