First off let me say that Bat Comics, in and of itself, is a super-cool little place. Geeks and the like may experience that kid in a candy store feeling as it is chock full of novelties, comics, games, collectibles and really fun stuff.. The majority of the employees are also friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. I was very happy that I discovered it when I did. Unfortunately, my subsequent visit (and the one that prompted this review) all but ruined the experience for me. The owner seems to have a bit of an attitude problem. I can understand that people who loiter in your store and read your comic books might not give off the 'ideal customer' vibe. He came up to me while I was flipping through one and asked if I had any questions about the comics. When I said no thanks, I'm having fun, I got an obviously put off "oooo-kay" response. I felt a little uncomfortable after that. I didn't think I was doing anything wrong until he came back a couple of minutes later to tell me that they ask people not to read through the comic books. Of course, he repeated this several times and in a very abrupt way. Again, I am perfectly aware of the reasons they would ask people not to do that. But I distinctly felt like he did not want me to be there; and probably would've been asked to leave if I'd dared to read anymore. I spent $50 here the day prior. To be honest if I'd had this experience on my shopping day, I would've just put everything back and left. The other people who work there are great, and make you feel welcome. It is my hope that the owner can glean some people skills from them, else I will be wary to return. read more

I had a really great experience at Bat Comics & Games. I called concerning a particular item and they were very nice and helpful. Eventually going to the store, I was greeted with very kind and helpful customer service. I would and will go back, I do call in advanced to make sure they have what I am looking for. Have been a customer there for a couple years, the convenience of it being downtown is great. Each week going in and getting the titles I follow, back issues, variants, or finding new titles. Today I went to get a current title, as well as look through some other titles I might be interested in. After I skimmed through a couple to see what they were about, if they peaked my interest, I was told that I'm not allowed to read the issue. I was put off by this because I am a regular and how am I to find new titles without looking? I've never sat and read an entire issue, put it back, and left empty handed. But, even if that were to happen, it is a book store and people look. I understand it could add wear and tear but handled properly, I should be able to cruise through some pages. I chose a comic and went to pay with a gift card. He then told me that "4/5" times I look and never purchase, which is entirely false and incredibly offensive. After the purchase I asked for the remaining $3 balance in cash. The owner denied me stating that I can file a civil lawsuit because he's not giving it to me. Then proceeded to change his mind, saying for me to never come back. The owner is pushy, rude, offensive, and does not understand customer appreciation! Apparently you have to make blind purchases and spend a certain amount of money to gain is appreciation. My friends and I will gladly never return. The other comic shop in town (Collectors Ink) has more of a selection with better prices, friendly not pushy environment, and customer appreciation. read more

Since attending Chico State I haven't had a lot of free time to be my nerdy self or going out and trying new things. However, over the three day weekend I was able to do a little of both and went into admittedly my first comic book store. After going in I was imediately asked by one of the employees there if I needed any help or if there was anything that I needed in a very polite way of course. Not knowing what to say I just said I was going to look around. Now don't get me wrong I like comics and all the nerdy things that come with them, but the only reason I have never been in a comic book store til now is because there isn't a comic book store in my home town and have no idea where the nearest own is. So after finding this place I was completely at home since I was able to identify most of the merchandise in the store. This store has such a large select of merchandise that it was almost overweming and I didn't know where to start. I mean they had movies, comics, action figures, posters, and so much more. If you happen to be a comic book fan or just happen to like the latest Marvel movie that came out then I would most definately reccomend you to go and check this place out. read more
