I was greatly let down by this place. I genuinely struggled to find books written by people of color in general but it was especially appalling when I went to the "Middle East conflict" and "Native studies" section and the sections consisted of books solely by white authors. Even the classics and poetry sections were practically entirely white, the only non white poetry book I found was by Rupi Kaur (bleh) and it was stuffed into the back of the last shelf. It's 2025 people, beyond time to diversify our bookshelves The reason I am giving this 2 stars instead of 1 is because the prices are good. If you only care to read mainstream romance books it may be a good place to check out. read more

Books are my one true love - ever since my childhood when I'd eagerly go to the library, check some out, go home and read them, then, a couple days later, turn them in and check out more. :) Such happy days! And, of course, I'm a sucker for bookstores, with books new and used. This one I've been frequenting since its previous location over near Walgreens. I think the new location has been a little more convenient for me, because I'm able to make regular visits to keep myself up-to-date on the ever-changing inventory. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by a "hello", "welcome in", or some other phrase to make you feel appreciated for stopping by to support this business operation. And then you're overwhelmed, this is good, by all the books! Books are everywhere! All sorted by genre, of course. And now you get to peruse through the shelves, grab books which entice you, leaf through them and decide which ones you're going to purchase. Whenever I'm here, I purchase 2-3, because the prices are excellent and there are some great finds I've found here over the years. The inventory, I repeat, is constantly changing, which means you need to come regularly and, maybe, just maybe, you'll find some real literary gems. :) I certainly have. Somebody in Chico recommended this place to me. I called ahead of time and asked if they took books for store credit. The lady said yes, and listed off everything they would buy from me, including DVDs. I grew very excited and said I will see you soon. I called back and asked if they took VHS tapes as well. She very firmly said no and reminded me that she will only give me store credit. Whatever I was asking for store credit to begin with. I showed up and nobody greeted me so I walked around the store to see if there was even anything I was interested in for store credit. There wasn't much to be honest and their DVD selection was very limited. Somebody finally acknowledged me, but she noticed I had my bag full of books and DVDs waiting to be traded in. She told me about their policy of trade ins needing to stay at the front and even tried taking my bag from me without my permission. Extremely rude. read more

The couple who run ABS Books are absolutely great! I have been there and just given a few words description of the book I am looking for and somehow they know exactly where it is. You can also give them a topic that interests you and they can recommend several authors and titles. They are the most knowledgeable people I have ever met in a book store. Please visit their store. How has no one rated this cute book store?! I went in today for the first time and fell in love. Here are a few things I love about the place: 1. The books are in great condition. 2. The books are very very reasonable!! 3. Tons and tons of books. Books everywhere! 4. There was a dollar section. 5. They trade books. 6. The lady who owns it was incredibly polite!! I had to ask her a few questions and she didn't make me feel as if I was intruding. She was so helpful and you could tell she has a passion for books and loves her store. I will definitely be back!! I love love LOVE this book store! I went in searching for a particular book that I couldn't find anywhere in Chico. Beth was super sweet and helped me look for it. It wasn't in stock but I ended up buying 6 other wonderful books for only $16. I will definitely be back. You get 75% off for trading in other books or audio books as well. What a find! I could get lost in here... they are extremely organized and my daughters can go crazy in the kid's corner with tons of children's books and toys! They had a blast, and so did we! The owners are wonderful, the shop is wonderful, and the book selection is divine! The lady who owns it is a person who seems to truly like other human beings....it's very hard to fake that......she always strikes up a conversation, is warm and polite. I LOVE this book store - love it! During the last ten years, I had lost a few boxes of books from multiple moves. Not sure where they ended up.....just gone. I decided I wanted to replace these books, but didn't want to spend all the money on brand new books. So, I began looking for a used book store here in Chico. I found this one immediately online, went in, and could not believe the selection! Books everywhere! And great prices - very very reasonable. I was able to replace many of the books I had lost, plus many others. I'm now a regular there, and the turnover is fantastic - every couple of days, newer books show up. The owners are GREAT - very helpful, very friendly, make you feel right at home. I've heard from others who shop there how much they love it - and I can see why - definitely a Chico gem. And they take pretty much any book you would like to donate - as long as it has the cover and is complete(not missing pages, etc.). The credit you get on donated books is excellent, and they always want to make sure you're happy with what you're getting. Can't recommend them strongly enough - love them. read more
