The shop itself is cramped, and the singles inventory is disorganized enough that it's difficult to know what is or isn't actually in stock. My biggest issue was the atmosphere. I experienced what felt like gatekeeping toward experienced players and well-built Commander decks. The environment seemed geared toward keeping games at lower power levels rather than accommodating a variety of playstyles. The store also keeps very limited hours, being open only for a few hours on weekends, which makes it difficult to shop or attend events regularly. The hygiene policy also struck me as unusually strict. While I understand wanting to maintain a clean and comfortable environment, some aspects of the policy seem unnecessarily rigid and could unfairly affect people with legitimate medical or glandular conditions. Overall, I found the community to be geared primarily toward newer players and mostly unmodified Bracket 1-2 preconstructed Commander decks. If that's what you're looking for, it may be a good fit. However, players with larger collections, more optimized decks, or more experience may find the environment restrictive and less welcoming. There are other game stores in the area, like Hero's Corner, that, in my experience, offer a broader range of playstyles, more flexible communities, less gatekeeping, and a more enjoyable overall experience. I've been to a lot of different LGS's over the years and I can't say I'd recommend this one. read more

Visited recently from my college days after the previous owner sold to the new owners (didn't know about that). Was greeted with a sign outside that said wear deodorant..... okay understanable but thats really brazen for an owner to do that. The young women behind the counter was insanely helpful and kind though! I expressed my previous ventures here about the old owner and we talked, lovely discussion and the only reason thisnplaces gets a two and not a 1. The owner was apparently on the bottom floor playing / organizing cards. Me and my friend started to look through the bulk area of cards and started to ask about pricing of certain cards and packs. That's when the owner chimed in with the absolute worst attitude, a complete night and day compared to the person running the ont desk. In his bulk section we made a point that these 10 cards totaled less then what he wanted for the cards in that price section and we were willing to round up but just not over pay by about $6. The sneer this person had was horrid. Idk how people like that ever are blessed with the ability to own and operate a buisness but it is really sad. This place as amazing during college for me, but the new owner has completly built an extremely toxic atmosphere. read more

On first glance the shop is great, the staff are nice, and the strict hygiene policy is much appreciated, but the new owner's toxicity detracts from all of that. He sets up a Discord where people can buy sell and trade with each other, doesn't set any rules for how transactions and trades should be held on his platform, and then gets mad and will ban anyone who blindly breaks the rules he has written in his head. He'll claim that communication is important, then not so much as DM you when he decides to ban you. Honestly, this one interaction I saw there has soured my entire experience with this shop, and I wouldn't recommend this store to anyone so long as it's under the current owner. read more

Becky who owns and runs the store is a very large contributing factor as to why I shop here. Her customer service is second to none. She always has a fairly good selection of Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic and Pokémon as well as some others. I have played at the shop for years. And have had my fair amount of great value pulls at drafts and just in general. 10/10 recommend for seasoned and new collectors. read more

I have been around more than my fair share of magic shops and this one by far is the worst. The disorganization accompanied with the lack of knowledge is astounding. The place felt cramped and disgusting. When asked if they have a product you are met with basically a shrug of I have no idea and pointed to a gaint mess of cardboard boxes stacked to the ceiling. Many people have expressed concerns of being included at the shop when it comes to who can play and who can't, mostly surrounding what they look like which is unacceptable at best and illegal at most. This place made my boyfriend feel uncomfortable and unwanted there on many occasions . They always tell him there isn't room for him. And I have a huge feeling it's because he is of color. This last time they let a bunch of people join the game and when it was his turn to get to the front counter, they told him there was no more room and don't recommend him to play anyways because he is a beginner. THEY DONT LET JUST ANYONE PLAY, VERY JUDGMENTAL THERE. I'm so tired of my boyfriend just trying to play a game he likes with other people, and instead gets sent home because "of no room". He saw many seats left and was still turned away. So if you are white, you might get lucky. read more

I use to come here before Covid and just started coming back to casual play with a friend. Becky is still an amazing store owner, the store is still full of cool stuff and prices are fair. I wish Chico had more people who play the TCGs I play, like Digimon, but it's alright since this store caters mostly to MTG and YGO but they do a awesome job at that. read more

Still love this place... Although it's been busy and hard to get helped at times, it's worth an extra trip, and the people behind the counter (Becky and other) are always extremely helpful and easy to deal with. I hope someday to get in for some FNM soon. read more

Great gift/collectables shop. Bottom line: something for everyone. I was able to buy some nice earrings as a present for my best friend. There are some unique items here, as well as a good selection of sports memorabilia. I don't play Magic, but they host tournaments here and sell cards. Chico Magic is the best place in town for the ccg community. A store with great atmosphere. Not just that but a friendly owner, fantastic and knowledgeable staff, and awesome community of customers and gamers. I don't play Magic, but this place is pretty much my husband's second home. He is always playing in tournaments at Chico Magic and loves it. I love it because of the location. Such a fun place to hang out. My kids and a few friends have been playing magic for years. This place can be like a second home. I am kind of a newb at MTG and everyone is really patient and helpful. I know this is a store with MTG, Yugio, tons of games and cool stuff to buy, but I kind of feel like it's a cool club where we're all welcome. There are a lot of fun and interesting people in the shop. Sometimes I just go in, get a bottle of water and some chips and listen to all the great conversations. If I'm really lucky I can get the owner, Becky to play King of Tokyo, or Monster dice. I've made some of my best friendships in Chico Magic. read more

The owner is very friendly and attentive. The store can get a bit crowded on the more busy days but the overall atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming. Hands down the best card shop I've been to in the area.
