UPDATE: Weeeell I see what everyone was talking about now with the employees and customer service as I was just in the store as an employee loudly proclaimed, "Dude, that's so r*****ed!" Yikes. At least another employee responded saying, "omg stop saying that at work!" (Which like, don't say that at all?? In the year 2026?? We know better, c'mon. I'm glad it didn't go completely unchallenged though.) They also were continuing loud conversations throughout my visit which doesn't bother me but also, seems they get a bit toooo comfortable sometimes. I implore the employees to please be mindful of time and place. ORIGINAL REVIEW (4 stars): I really really like this store and I frequently come just to browse. I think I can say I got the most value when my baby was a bit younger, like when I was pregnant and from newborn to, say, 6 months or so? Now that my baby is older, around 12 months, I don't find nearly as many things it seems. Or maybe I just don't need as much anymore. I find the service pretty friendly and responsive. They usually ask if I'm ready before I am (not in a bad way), and when I am ready, I never have to wait long for someone to check me out. I'm somewhat surprised that some say that employees are unfriendly. Idk if they're overtly "sunny" personalities, but they never give me problems or leave me in a bad mood either. But maybe that was a previous group of employees who have cycled through. I find their pricing hit or miss. You can't just trust it to be a good deal in my opinion. You *can* get a great deal, and they have special clearances that you can really get some good finds, but look it up. Don't just trust that it's a good deal automatically. For example, looking for pair of shoes for my baby, I was looking for some Stride Rites. On Amazon, they're like $40-60. I figured this was a great thing to look for at OUAC... I found a pair for $9. Well, upon closer examination, these were Munchkin by Stride Rite... Walmart. Looked it up, they were $12 brand new. I also am a bit disappointed in the condition/cleanliness of items like the strollers and high chairs. They just seem rooough to me for the prices they are charging. They also have to display the strollers outside which increases the dirtiness and they get pretty noticeably sun faded. This also is one of the stores where you can't *not* be in the way. I actually prefer the Redding store over the Chico one because of how much space there is and the layout. But they do use the space they have well; they just have much less of it (as I mentioned, they have to display the strollers outside because there is physically not enough room inside the store). read more

This store is ok. I've been to two other OUAC, one in Roseville (my favorite), and one in Washington. This store I feel like has changed their clothes so much. All they have is plain and ugly stuff. They don't buy anything cute. No clearance section. The shoes they have are always thrashed. I bought a pair of vans, my kid never wore them, I cleaned them and tried to sell back, and they didn't take them I should have just left them dirty, and maybe they would have taken them. So much better than the two other once upon a child's I've been to in the Sacramento area. The Chico location is much bigger, had an amazing selection, was very organized, the clothes were in better condition, and the staff was very nice. I sold some items there and while you get less than you would selling them yourself, I don't mind because this is easier. Overall very happy and will definitely be going back! read more

UPDATE: Once again I wish I could give ZERO stars! My mother purchased an item for me and inspected it in the store. When she got home and sent me a pic, she noticed there was a hole in the seam. When she purchased, she used a $10 reward of mine. She went to return the item and they said they don't give the reward money back. I am furious! If I return something to kohls, I still get my rewards cash back. I've returned at other OUAC locations who also use Five Star to track rewards & I've received my rewards back just fine. They manually gave me back my rewards but apparently this store doesn't do that. There was one time their reward system was down so she wrote my number down to give me my points manually when the system was back up. So why can't they go in and manually give me enough points to give my $10 reward back?! My mom did the return without calling me to inform me they wouldn't give my reward back so I pretty much paid them to take the item back when you take into consideration they didn't give my $10 back. All that money spent to earn a $10 reward and now it's just gone. I'm so over this location. When I called the store, she said they were currently training a lot of new employees so things may be slipping through the buy counter. My friends and I love shopping here! So many items and the employees are always so nice!

Nice big store with lots of size options for kids clothing newborn to size XL or 16/18. Twice a year they have $1 days or 90% off clearance items. Staff is nice overall. Selling items is ok they should give you 40% of what they can sell it for but they don't . I took in 56 items and got $86 and some change which is $1.50 an item. 4 items were small movies and a toy. The rest of the items included shoes, full Halloween costumes etc things they will sell for $10-$15 easy. Some item you might make more than a yard sale but you will lose out when you could sell them yourself . read more

This was an ok store, but what I didn't like was that none of the workers spoke Spanish. There were a bunch of people who came in and only spoke Spanish who they couldn't understand. The workers kept on relying on me to translate. I finally had to tell them I don't work here, this isn't my job. I don't understand why they don't hire a Spanish speaker. read more

Chico is fortunate to have a Once Upon a Child location that is so well run! The store itself is always in beautiful condition, superbly organized and very clean. The products themselves (all pre-owned) are in fantastic shape. They're very particular about what they buy and the attention to detail shows. You can find used children's clothing, toys, games, books, and other equipment here. If you've got a child and live in Chico - definitely check them out before paying retail price! The selling-to-them experience is also super easy. You won't get as much from them as you might on Facebook Marketplace... but you only deal with them, not people flaking on you and not showing up! They pay cash on the spot. And don't forget to ask about their loyalty rewards (they use Five Star) and the New Mom's Club, which has specials for new parents. :) read more
