Finally a store to quench my card-writing, book-loving, introvert side! This place is like a Papyrus and independent bookstore in one. They sell fine handmade cards and stationary alongside some of the best current literature. Books run the gamut from NYTimes bestsellers in fiction and nonfiction to local authors and book club favorites. Most titles are thought-provoking and intense sounding and a little on the edge of mainstream notoriety which is great if you're looking to find some new authors or experiment in new genres. Also, I love that I can swing by here for a birthday card that I know no one else at the party will have bought. Aaah, the joys of words on paper.

Like the reviewer above, I find it fun to pick out unique and beautiful cards for friends here as well. The owner and the employees read many of the books they sell and there are little reviews for many of the books throughout the store. Every time I visit, they give great recommendations and I have never been disappointed by a purchase. Though it may be cheaper to find books online through discount websites, I love being able to support the local business owner and the friendly employees.

We wandered into this store and there are some cute things but way over priced, even as compared to Los Angeles. Nonetheless we bought a few cards and lesser priced things, only to be treated so rudely at check out. The owner (or cashier, we don't know), didn't even look us in the eye as she rang up our orders. She never said hello, goodbye, or thank you. It was so dismissive. We rang up our orders at different times, but by the time we met back on the street to find our car, we were like; "was that woman a bitch or what!!!" We both had the same experience. So much for that shop, there are others..........YUCK, forget it.

A friend of mine that lives in town has been raving about Split Pea for a few months and I finally decided it was time for me to check it out for myself. I specifically went in wanting just small, neutral colored, cross-body purse - great for going out dancing since it's not clunky, in the way, or something you have to hold onto like a clutch. After just a couple of minutes, I found what I wanted. It was black, even though I was hoping for tan, but it would still work. And it was only $18! I then of course remembered that mental list of "jewelry wants". You know, when you put on an outfit and you think "[insert type/color of necklace] would look great with this. Too bad I don't own anything like that. I should get one." So, I started seeking out those items and inevitably getting tempted by things that I didn't really need, but were too cute to pass up. So, two necklaces, two sets of earrings, and a set of bracelets later, I had to make myself stop. The damage was $73. WAY more than I was expecting to buy and spend. Anyway, Split Pea is going to become an expensive bad habit... and I'm ok with that.
