I want to be very clear that this place isn't bad; however, it doesn't have much in the way of variety. There's a small section for D&D, Warhammer, and a few other games/posters, but not much else except a 4X4 area for comic books. There were some gaming tables, the space is clean, and we were immediately greeted at the door. Still a good time, and I'd recommend for anyone wanting to get together for ttrpg sessions. read more

I have never had a bad experience at GV Games. I am always made to feel welcome by the staff. Even when they appear busy, I will still be welcomed and asked if I need any help. I came in looking for a specific board game recently. They were out of stock, but they took my name and number to let me know when more came in. About a week later I got a call that the game I wanted was in and one had been set aside for me. I highly recommend shopping here rather than going down the hill or online. You will appreciate the atmosphere much better. read more

The owner seems like a real cool guy. There card table setups are pretty well set up if you play. I like that you can put your picks on them. I found a good amount of gems. I got four books that go for 15$ ea. on eBay for cover price. I also got a good amount of back issues. The town is really pretty and it's worth going there to see that alone. read more

I typically only review a business if it's positive. It takes a lot to make me think about writing a negative review. Last year during Covid for Father's Day I chose to get my son a gift certificate at Grass Valley games which is a business he likes to frequent. I ordered the gift certificate over the phone. Now that people are out and about my son went into use his gift certificate that was supposed to be kept on file for him under his name And was told they couldn't find it and needed the full credit card number of the card that purchased it. So I went through my bank account pulled up the receipt with the date called the store spoke to the owner, gave them my full credit card. He said Yep I found it but he doesn't have the gift card because I did it over the phone and he apparently thinks that 10 months is too long to store records. Even though the agreement during the shut down was that he would keep record of it for my son. He refuses to honor the gift certificate. He told me that he has no way of knowing if one of his employees took it and used it ( not our problem) and implied that maybe my son had used it already which he had not. He should know this as he has been inquiring about the gift card. I explained to him that I also own a business and I know how easy it is to figure this out and make it right with this customer and he informed me that regardless of the fact that I was angry about the situation that my son would continue frequenting his store. So I promptly called my son who told me that he could buy anything that he sells on Amazon and I hope that he continues to do that and not frequent the store. I primarily decided to write a review because he very arrogantly referred to all of his positive reviews and seems to think that despite his rude treatment to me over the phone that a family member of mine would continue to frequent his business. There was no tone of trying to resolve the issue . He just seem to think that 10 months was too long to hold a gift certificate during a pandemic. He claims that he sent me an email with the gift card number but told me he required my entire credit card number to be able to tell me where the email was sent again. All of it sounds fishy to me. If it wasn't for his accusatory, rude, disrespectful and dismissive tone with me I certainly wouldn't have taken the time to write this review. Buyer beware read more

Every time my husband and I are in Grass Valley we stop by Grass Valley Games. Lots of comics and board/table top games you wouldn't find most places. Pretty large selection and every employee we've interacted with has been super nice. :) read more

I drove for about an hour to get there and planned to spend about $200 on games. Got in the door and started looking, and was immediately asked to leave because I brought my dog in with me. Not asked if I could leave the dog outside or anything - just leave. So I left. My usual local game stores ( both A-1 Comics locations and Great Escape Games ) do not have a problem with well-behaved animals. In fact, they often give treats. Again, their choice. A judgment call. So my 2-star is relative. I definitely won't drive there on purpose again - that was a 2-hour round-trip for nothing. **************************************************************** Aug 4 2017: Update in response to owner's remarks **************************************************************** I don't recall using profanity or storming out. I do remember (as I noted in my review) leaving promptly, and not being very happy about it. However, I did leave immediately. This place is amazing. I have been going since the opening. All employees are very friendly and knowledgeable. I play Magic the Gathering here almost every week, so I have spent a lot of time here. If you play Magic, check out their midnight prerelease, free food/drinks and it's hosted in a giant hotel meeting room right near the shop. They have a little bit of everything, comics, Magic, Boardgames, warhammer, Pen and paper RPGs... Note this is just a little bit of everything as the store is very small. It makes for crowded playing sometimes. If you're a local or in town visiting, this is the place to play Magic or start networking with other gamers. read more

Not only do they sell the most awesome and exclusively hard to get board and card games, but they actually take the time to teach you the tough ones!!! They play with you!!! They invite you to come play with them!!! And.... wait for it.... they got comics too!!!! WHAT?!?! Great great great place!!! And the owner and employees are super friendly!!! Super knowledgeable, super kid friendly! And I even once saw the owner helping an elderly lady across the street!!! Does it get any better? I think not. Give these people your money. All of it. The walls are covered with model game supplies (warhammer) & an assortment of board games. New comics are available & a small selection of back issues. New packs of Magic only, no older stuff. Space is going to be a major problem if they want to be a serious gaming location. read more

My son and I stopped in here recently so he could buy magic cards. It's a fairly new shop and I was really surprised at the posh look and friendly atmosphere. We wound up spending more time here than I had thought possible, mainly because of the great board game selection (I'm a sucker, I admit!) I wound up buying "Dead of Winter" based on the owners recommendation (super nice, knowledgeable, and you can tell the kids who were in there really appreciated him!) I'm looking forward to stopping by more often and building my game cache anytime we are in town. Way to go Grass Valley for snagging such a great business! read more
