Pretty large store. One room is full of comics, the other room has comics along with CD, DVDs, and trading cards. The selection of new comics is not very large. But most of the main comics that would you would expect are there. They have a huge selection of dollar comics. At least 30 boxers. So much fun to look through for some old comics to complete a run. They have a whole long box full of signed comics if you are into that. They also have about 30 long boxes full of complete runs that you can buy. I could spend hours in that store. read more

One of my favorite places to shop at in Davis. Whether if it's comics, trading cards, video games, or movies, Bizarro World literally has a deep selection of titles to choose from, with a huge library of films to rent. Personally, I go in usually for their collection of movies, and they offer a website to help sort through finding a specific film and what section it's in. Rental rates are pretty cheap individually, so if you're just going in once in a while, that's great value with how many popular, foreign, and prestige films there are to choose from. They also offer a monthly membership, which I'm subscribed to, where you can rent a ton of films, in and out, for only one price. For someone that can't afford to buy every criterion blu ray, nor do I have the storage space for a huge collection of my own, Bizarro World is a great solve for that kind of problem. As far as card games go, I'm more of a Digimon Card Game player, which they'll have a new set every now and then, but they offer a ton in terms of Magic and Pokemon, with prices being on the slightly medium to high end of the spectrum. Still, any independent store that has quite a variety of games to choose from is better than one that is far more limited in my opinion. Used to buy comics back in the day, but they're pretty well stocked with a lot of titles from major publishers and have a ton of new titles. For their used video games selection, it's a bit small, but I'm sure there's some nice gems to be had in that section. read more

Not disability accessible. Only stairs to get in, and when you get in, the store is a mess and very dark. There is so much packed on the floors in every aisle that getting a mobility device around is impossible. On top of all of this, the owner, Dan, is a horrible person. He is always condescending and rude. He has never been pleasant. Maybe because I am a woman? He doesn't talk to my husband that way. One time I came to trade some stuff and he talked to me like I was a moron who didn't know what I had and tried to super low ball me. Then the last straw was he was rude to my 5 year old. It was his first time in a comic shop. What a way to introduce him! Awfu! There are better game shops in town now, and if I need comics, I'll drive to Vacaville or Sac before I will ever go here again. read more

Shop was very unorganized and no rhyme or reason to where things were. Some things weren't priced and the shop owner would price it at the front which I think is one of the worst things a comic shop can do. Every book was also above the FMV. I travel a lot for work and always try to visit and return to comic shops wherever I'm at, but I doubt I will be returning to this one. read more

I must admit that I am not quite the biggest fan of comic books, video games, collectibles, trading cards, or hobby shops in general. But every once in a while, its always fun to poke around and see what these types of stores have to offer. This takes me to the heart of downtown Davis where I ventured into the world of "Bizarro World". Located on E St. and directly in between 2nd and 3rd St's, this has been a fan favorite hobby store for several decades since they opened in the early-90's. I came here during the afternoon of Saturday 6/24/2023 at around 1:15pm. Since this is directly in their downtown area, parking nearby might be challenging. I parked a few blocks away (not knowing I was going to come here) and made the 4 block walk by foot inside. The front of the store has a ton of their comic books including DC, Marvel, and Japanese Animation just to name a few. There are selections that vary in the hundreds to thousands as well as a small book area. I also saw quite a bit of action figure collectibles, Magic trading cards, Pop Toys, Pokémon cards, and other memorabilia from various time periods. They also carry a respectable amount of video games that are compatible with all the current game consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo) and a very generous music section with a wide range of vinyl albums, cassettes, and compact discs. However, as you make your way towards the rear of the store, their DVD/Blu-ray library are in the several thousands. Now I am a big movie buff so this was a pleasant surprise. Now why the 3-star rating? The prices here are on the higher end of the spectrum on many items. I don't really follow-up with comic book prices but some of the Blu-ray prices are only a few bucks less than what you'd find brand new on Amazon. Even quite a few Yelpers mentioned that the prices are expensive and fluctuate with the price shown may not necessarily be the price you're going to pay when you get to the register. With that said and done, "Bizarro World" was just an okay experience for me. They do have generous hours of operation being opened seven days a week from 11:00am to as late as 10:00pm on select nights. They also are one of the few stores that still offer video rentals which isn't a bad thing but is not as popular before with everything streaming online. Overall, I am giving them just an average three-star Yelp rating. read more

The owner seems like he's always in a bad mood, reflected by how unfriendly his interactions typically are with his customers. I can't put all the blame on him since he does have to deal with college-town kids when some can be trouble-makers. However, acting the same way toward all those coming into the store doesn't make the atmosphere feel very welcoming at all. The Pokemon individual pack prices are fair, typically at $5-6 for a scarlet & violet era pack. Some card singles are fair as well, and of course, you would expect an upcharge on some cards since it is a small business, but really? Selling a FAKE Mewtwo & Mew Gx card for nearly 3X the price listed on eBay (24+ if I recall from my visit a couple of weeks ago when the price on eBay is 8.99)? I remember seeing this card in the display and not recognizing it, which would be expected since it isn't a real card. I'm not sure why they would buy it from a customer who was trying to get some money for their fake card which they got scammed themselves on, but to leave it on display to potentially sell to a Pokemon fan for a ridiculous price who has no clue that it's a fake card is just disappointing. read more

Spent a lot of money to find out packs are resealed. Not sure if the owner or the person he buys from does it. Either fake or preopened. I bought a booster bundle and single pack. The back of the single pack was sealed weird and when I opened it there were cards in different directions. I checked the booster box and the packs ripped way too easy. I wouldn't buy here again. On Saturday my boyfriend, daughter and I stopped in to check out this local comic book store. I purchased the book "Kiki's Delivery Service" based off of one of my favorite Studio Ghibli films! I wanted to purchased the dvd as well, but unfortunately it was only available to rent from what I could tell since the employee didn't know and the dvds available for purchase weren't really organized. I would recommend patronizing this shop that opened in 1991 and we will back to explore more, my daughter loved seeing their 25th anniversary Spider-Man statue and Funko Pop Toys! One of the worst comic shops I've ever visited. It's so filthy and dirty that your finger tips turn dark with dirt and dust after about 5 minutes of flipping through bins. The back issue comics are totally disorganized l in multiple areas, with about as much alphabetical order as a kindergarten, and packed so tight you have to take 20 comics out of every single fucking long box. It's very labor intensive to find anything. But I found 7-8 bagged back issues priced $4-6 bucks each. The punchline is that they try to change the price of back issue comics AT THE REGISTER! I spent 90 minutes searching for comics, found some recent/modern comics, but one of the two issues of Xenozoic Tales didn't have a bag or price. Took them to the register and the kid at the register says "oh no, this one says $5, but the other has no price. So he looks it up on eBay and says "woah, the owner has to look at all of these cuz this one is worth a lot ($20). Did you look up these books? How much do they go for?" I thought "it's not my job to process and price books for you." I said, "uh, so the prices on the bags aren't the actual price?" The kid answered "well, sometimes, but not if they're worth more online." They don't use Overstreet. They just go with whatever eBay shows at the moment you bring it up to the register. What the fuck? The shop was closing so I was told to return the next day "after the owner looks at the books." It's like they don't really want to sell any comics. I'm gonna help them out and never buy anything from them ever again. read more

Price range: they will literally change the price on you ON THE SPOT. Sticker price may say $9, but they will raise it to $25 and tell you about how they're charging too low on it. Seriously?! To consider: they have lots of comic books and movies. Wait time: usually pretty quick, because the times I've been there no one does transactions with them. Ambiance: usually no music. No one checks up on you to see if you need help. Staff is steadily unmotivated. Great to be around a comic shop regardless of the staff. Shoutout(s): to one of the few Davis comic shops. Wish we had more options in order for this shop to start putting customers first. Location review: it's in downtown davis, so it's in a great place. You can look at comics, then go to a boba cafe, then get Mexican food. It's in a great location. Service: terrible. Every employee (including the owner) is just so unmotivated. They need more customer service training, and training on how to be more "professional" in the workplace. The staff (from my experience) is just so off putting. I wish this place loved us the way we love it. Expectations: I expected a welcoming and embracing energy. Us comic book folks don't have too many options, so finding a shop that's chill and embracing is critical. Our niche comic and trading card community is small, and I wish the staff there showed a little more love. Improvements: employee training, don't change up the price on customers last second, keep prices competitive enough for locals to not want to just shop online. I'm happy to support local, but please show us love too. Last words: if you can, please avoid this place. If you've never been it's a great place to see comics, cool toys, cards, and stuff. I just wish this place was more welcoming. It's really off putting. My first 1 star review of 2023! read more

After growing up in Davis and coming here many times over the years, I'll never set foot inside again. Davis deserves better. I visited over the holidays, just after the store opened at 11, because I needed to buy some last-minute gifts. After being in the store for perhaps 20 seconds, I heard the guy working there (presumably the owner, based on other negative reviews), say "just get the f*ck out" - not facing me, but loud enough that I could hear. Keep in mind I was the only one in the store with him. I was shocked and confronted him, asking if he was talking to me. After I asked him a second time he half-heartedly denied it (without making eye contact). I won't speculate as to what prompted this, but the result was I left immediately and vowed never to go back. Truly the most bizarre "customer service" experience of my life and one I hope this review spares other people from having to deal with. read more

As much as I'd like to support local stores like this, Bizarro World should be avoided. If you decide to shop here, be warned that they may charge you a higher price at the register than what's advertised on the product without telling you. I went in and purchased 2 items, with the price sticker still on the product. Kid who rang me up didn't tell me the total, just asked "cash or card?" and I didn't think to double check, and just paid with my card. Later I saw the credit card transaction and noticed he overcharged me. Reading some of the other reviews, it appears many others have been similarly deceived, so I find it unlikely that this was just an honest mistake. That was my first and last time shopping there. Bizarre World is the go to spot for card singles and comics, no other shop has their selection at their prices. They have plenty of other stuff beyond cards and comics too, I've gotten some good games from them for a fair price. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for specific nerdy stuff. read more

Worst comic book store ever! (Not hyperbole) Comic Collectors AVOID THIS STORE!!! It is a complete waste of time trying to purchase comics from this store. Their prices mean nothing, They'll just change them at the register and abuse you if you question why. I've personally experienced this from the owner and another employee. Don't waste your time on the boxes marked "Comics All $1" or "Sale 50¢." I spent my time flipping through thousands and thousands of books to find a few I wanted.  When I hit the register, the owner wouldn't honor the price and sell them to me, even though he knew where they came from and the huge amount of time I spent finding them. This store used me so they could mine their comic bins to mark up for someone else. That is dishonest and unethical... and they don't care! They treated me like I was trying to cheat them for finding something no one wanted till the day I found it. Based on my personal experience, they have no qualms being shady and abusive so they can squeeze every penny from their dilapidated stock.
