I remember as a kid I was an avid reader,but for some reason I thought comic books were really lame because they weren't real books.They were just pictures with a few words and wasn't even close to what I was doing knocking out multiple books in a week. Sometime in my 30s though that all changed.As I got older,I came to appreciate the high quality of the medium,in regards to being able to have such complex stories work with such high quality artwork. So I started collecting comics and became a frequent customer to A-1 Comics in Roseville located on Sunrise Avenue. The top two things I love about this location are as follows. -Their employees really give excellent customer service.They are very helpful in assisting the customers in finding whatever they are looking for. A-1 has two other locations in the Sacramento area and multiple times I've been in Roseville and they were sold out of what I was looking for and they took it upon themselves to call their other locations to check if they had what I wanted-that's excellent customer service. -Second thing that truly stands out for me about A-1 is they aren't cheap on inventory-every week when new releases come out,they always have plenty of copies so that as many customers as possible have a good opportunity to get the issues they want-not all comic shops do this-others keep such limited inventory that they sell out too fast-A-1 rarely lets that happen. This Roseville location pretty much has its own parking lot,so there's always has plenty of parking available for its customers. In closing, I really do recommend this shop for all your comic needs-it's a pretty awesome place filled with pretty awesome employees and I always look forward to heading back out there. read more

Store: Decent selections. Love the dollar bins, but you gotta really pick through them. The quality of the dollar bins at all three A-1 locations was not the best. We had better $1 bin experiences at other stores. Most of the comics have no sleeves and are quite dingy. I got a rash (spider mite?) from going through them. So like I said, kinda dingy. Definitely recommend bringing gloves. Service: The first guy and the manager seemed nice. We chatted for a bit. At checkout, we spent over $250 combined across two transactions and paid in cash. The younger cashier nickel-and-dimed me, charging $6+ for a few dollar-bin finds and $1 for a $.50 find due to old price tags, even though I told him I found them all in the dollar bins. I'm pretty annoyed that he gave my partner a discount because he was tired of counting too many dollar bills for him (he had an attitude and was pretty frustrated while counting), but then charged me extra. Review Summary: will return to search for treasure, will still bring cash if we can (the more dollar bills the better), and will definitely bring gloves with us. read more

I found a lot of issues that I was looking for and their back issue were categorized by title and volume. Hope to come back tomorrow and also visit their Auburn store. 4 star because had a bit of a bad experience during the prerelease of a set. Was super unorganized and chaotic. Nick the supervisor was super polite over the phone the next day and resolved any issues I had which included a refund and revisiting the store in person. Even more polite when arrived and apologized for the issues. Definitely the saving grace and the made the difference between this and a bad review. Keep up the awesome customer service skills! I remember a time when going to A-1 Roseville felt like a huge adventure. We mainly stuck to A-1 Auburn for our nerdom needs, though it was smaller in tables, it was huge in inventory and it was close and had great staff. I popped by this location for a quick game of Lorcana. This shop is favored for the many tables available for free play or organized games. It has lots of inventory too if youre interested in comics, figurines, and a million games to choose from. A-1 has become a standard for Sacramento CCG players and has even more locations. I usually buy my comics from g-mart. But thought it'd be fun to go over to A1 and buy some just to have it today. I think I spent about $130. They were very rude to me at the checkout. Nickel and dimed me and acted like maybe I was stealing something or maybe it was that they were sort of annoyed I was making them do their job. Anyways, bad experience, won't do that again. Gmart is cheaper and better. That's sunrise BTW. Guys at the Auburn location are always cool as hell. read more

I love their selection of manga, and they have a discounted manga section I usually find something worth grabbing. My reason for 3 stars is because of their figures, and their purchasing. 1st off, always research what you're buying. For instance, they had a figure in case for $179 that online you can buy new and sealed for $98. Second, I called ahead and was told if I was willing to do trade in store credit for figures, I'd be given about 60%. These were very popular characters and figures, mind you. Ace from OP and Deku from MHA. Not characters that would sit around forever. Ace was worth $119 and was unopened. Deku $75 also unopened. The worker took 20 min to look at them, and then came back to me with $25 store credit for both. So fair warning, they absolutely don't come close to 60% credit. It's a huge rip off to try to get credit from them. Just sell your figures on eBay. read more

First time visiting this shop and it will now be the only place I ever go! I am currently a new magic player and my boyfriend and I have been looking to switch over to commander. We decided to drop by and skim the commander decks and they had several options, including the fae deck that we've been looking for! The person that helped us was so kind and knowledgeable, and I feel so bad because I never did grab their name, but we had the best experience. We decided to wait and come back another time to purchase but as we were driving away to leave someone kind had actually purchased the deck for us for my boyfriend's birthday! I came in today and had excellent help purchasing Pokémon cards for my son and even a nine tails for Me haha. They have a huge selection of comics ranging from Silver Age, Bronze Age and Modern. Everyone is nice and friendly to me. They have what I want nice and organized. The store is HUGE and with a huge range of Marvel DC and independent comics. Also they have a huge selection of trade paperbacks of anything. (im old school I want the actual comic book). They even have some CGC grade books like New Mutants 1st appereance of Deadpool. Also, they have a great supply of Magic the gathering, I would like to know if the new stuff is worth the 100 dollars for a Magic Deck I have not played on a long time but they have a great people who know everything about comics and magic the gathering, Even old cards I used to play with. If your new to comics or want exclent customer service I highly recommend this store, very friendly knowledgeable people. This store may be great for adding to your collection, but in terms of getting an offer for selling, GO ELSEWHERE. I took in a large collection of Pokemon cards and the offer I received after 4 days of waiting was an attempted rip off. Only $500 for thousands of dollars worth of Pokemon cards. I understand needing to make a profit, but ripping people off is BS. I absolutely declined that offer since several of my cards in that collection are worth that much on their own if not more. Upon picking my collection up, I discover that all my Pokemon cards are no longer in the binders I had them in. They are nowhere near an alphabetical order like I had them. Several more valuable cards that I had in hard plastic sleeves now are not in those sleeves. The cards that were in binders were in see-through card holder pages. I can understand taking them out to examine them more closely, BUT WHY NOT PUT THEM BACK AFTERWARD?! I am incredibly unhappy with this whole process and I will not be going back here ever again. read more

Man this is a painful review to write. Ever sense I moved to Roseville, A1-Roseville had been my one stop shop for comics and collectibles over the last 6 years. During that time I only had one bad experience (which was in March 2021) when I got charged for an item I didn't purchase. While waiting in line to get it fixed the associate who did the double charge was complaining about me deciding on comics I no longer intended to collect. Clearly not noticing I was back in line. Today when I went in, keep in mind I hadn't been back sense that last visit. I learn that there were several issues missing to complete my order of reading. And instead of owning up that a mistranslation of what I wanted occurred... the blame was thrown at me. I countered with why would it make sense to skip an issue I'm reading just because there isn't a variant cover. They claim that's what I told then to do. Suddenly this isn't even about the missing comics but the manager is accusing me of always being rude and demanding. That I brought this on myself and I'm constantly a nuisance to the staff in there store. Which may I add... when I haven't visited the store in two months and I picked up my comics probably once every month to month and a half is a poor attack on a Customer. I'm usually in and out and my only deeper conversations besides hello and how are you is adding it removing comics from my saver. Offended and clearly knowing I don't have to take the abuse I leave the store and my comics. The manager making a remark "good someone else will be excited for these" like if that was supposed to sting. Man I collect to read not for value. This was my local comic book shop. I don't have all the resources and knowledge that they have. There supposed to be there to help. And if I made things confusing then talk to me so we can straighten things out. But this is what happened when a local store starts becoming the main store for the tester are, I'm just one customer they lost. They don't care. Side note: before coming to help I wanted to call and express my concerns to a different location manager. Only to learn I've been banned from all locations. This is a pretty good spot for your comic needs. I took my kiddos here to pick up some new Pokémon cards and ended up also walking away with a Dungeons and Dragons starter set. Service can be a little slow depending on how busy they are at the time. The staff also were considerate but less on the friendly side- seemed like they were very serious folk! I am not one to know anything about comics or fantasy play style games, but the prices seemed fair and seems to have a lot of stock. I wish I would've known back then because I totally would've spent my lonely lunch breaks here . I really like this place . The customer service is outstanding and they have so much to offer. Clayton helped me find comic books and stuffed plush toys while having a conversation about random things for like an hour long . Spencer put up with my 1,000 questions over the phone and answered them all with no hesitation . I wish I lived closer because I'd probably come more often ! I feel compelled to also review this location, as I have been coming to both since before I could drive and instead had to beg my parents to drop me off among my brethren, fellow nerds in arms, what have you. The employees have changed over the years, but I refuse to admit service has gone downhill, becasue it hasn't. I came in here specifically looking for the issues of Alex + Ada that I'm missing. This is a brilliant futuristic romance with a timely theme by the multi-talented Jonathan Luna and Sarah Vaughn. Apparently it's not as popular as it was when it first came out, and is therefor harder to find. My top two favorite area stores, Big Brother and this A1's Bigger Brother in Sacramento did not have it, but this A1 offered to order it for me. They've never failed to carry anything I've come in looking for. Additionally, I always find something here I don't need. Like a stuffed Totoro, or a t shirt of Galactus delightfully exclaiming OM NOM NOM while devouring a planet. But I digress, they didn't have the issue I want, and offered to order it for me. The whole process took less than 3 minutes, and my only waiting time was due to the unavoidable, extended subjection to my favorite form of effective birth control, a stressed out mom and her four hellions begging for pokemon cards. All of this exceptionally obnoxious nonsense was handled professionally and calmly by the new girls I had never seen before. As far as selection goes, I still rate the larger A1 higher, but as I've seen time and time again, ordering is an option here. There's also ample space for tourneys and competitions here. Oh the comic world was my childhood when Comics & Comix was the place to be! I remember when A-1 started in the early 90's so I am glad to see they have survived through gaming it seems. I see lots of people there especially on weekends gaming. The whole one side is just tables for people to game. It still has that same familiar comic book smell when you walk in. It brings back good memories. Nowadays I no longer read comics and I only come in for supplies from time to time. I sell vintage stickers on Ebay and their baseball card penny bags work great along with the backing boards that I use to ship and store them in. My customers ask me all the time where I get them and i say "my local comic book store!". Anyway, the employees have always been very friendly and helpful each time I have visited. I was disappointed to see they no longer sell 25 pack backing boards. He said he would have broken one down but it would have cost me much more in the long-run so I ended up getting the 100. I will use it but I won't be back for awhile. read more

I have been realizing how much tv sucks, mostly the commercials but also the negative garbage being perpetuated to maintain power and the wealth protecting it. Heavy for a comic shop revue huh! Well I used to buy comics when I was a kid from comics and comics on K st back in the day. I stopped reading and collecting them for decades lol. After really getting into all the MCU movies I decided to check out the source. Rest is history. This place and the other location seem cool. They seem to care without being judgmental prix. They even say funny stuff every once in a while. They seem to care about the product and are knowledgeable. I appreciate being steered away from a garbage buy or bad writing for the sake of a profit. One of the reasons I stopped watching tv as much/ at all. Their incentives programs are really great too. Generous even. They have a big sale this Saturday and it should be good.
