We came here for a family bridal shower with a party of 30, Food was good but owner was absolutely insane!!! We settled the $1000+ bill with the waiter and apparently the waiter shorted the owner on the total bill even though the gratuity was included. The owner had the nerve to address the issue during the bridal shower while the bride was opening her gift's a tragedy! Again, he even told the waiters to start cleaning up so they can leave in front of the bride while opening her gifts!! What a way to treat his customers!!!! P.S. It's just an ok place to dine. The food is not that great and certainly does not live up to the hype.

I sampled Basilico twice over the span of one year, and am hesitant to say that it has gone downhill. The first time was in August 2006, and the second time was one year later in August 2007. Regardless, it's still one of the better italian restaurants in the area, and I recommend it. This bring your own italian restaurant is always hopping and pretty popular with the local crowd. The first time I went, I could understand why...but the second time, not so much. The menu changes frequently, so maybe the owners are still experimenting with the public tastes, which is what I think is culprit of the "hit & miss" experience? The first time I had a fresh salad of endive and arugula with grana. It was delicious. That was followed by the ravioli ai porcini, which were outstanding. All the flavors were bright and creamy, and everything was super-fresh. The second time (one year later) I had a salad (now wisely taken off the menu) of green beans and beets. It was flavorless and not terribly exciting. My pasta was a spaghetti all'arrabiata, which had a strange anchovie-stock base, tainting the entire sauce. It just wasn't good. My companions had the two special fish dishes, which lacked flavor and substance (and they were also hovering close to $30 a dish, so we really were expecting more). Despite the lack of quality the second experience, I give this restaurant my full endorsement. The waitstaff is attentive and helpful, the desserts are sensational, and the fare is always light. I am hoping that my second visit was on an "off night", and they haven't degraded all that much. I plan to go back to find out myself! read more

The food is good, and the atmosphere is great. A little pricey but the food is quality, a little more gourmet than traditional Italian so expect to see unique menu items. Parking is a challenge, especially if you have an elderly person in your group - Millburn is a hopping downtown and this restaurant is near the exact town center which is great for atmosphere but bad for parking. read more

This place is great! The food, service and ambiance are all worth the price. It's BYOB, but I understand they offer a selection of wines. I have only been here once, but I had a great meal - I ordered specials Sole Francaise and an asparagus appetizer, and I enjoyed both. For dessert, I ordered a "sampler" - a trio of desserts. My husband ordered and enjoyed the Chicken Milanese. My only gripe is that Opentable.com sent me an email asking why I missed my reservation, when I didn't. Weird! read more

Enjoyed a very special dinner last night with friends and found nothing lacking in our superb dinner. Was concerned when we read the poster's negative comments of a restaurant we had come to depend on for superb dining experiences. I recently discovered Basilico -- relatively new to the area -- and I was floored. Just good menu, extremely tasty food, good service, great experience. I was there for a friend's birthday, just 3 of us, and we each had to-die-for delicious meals. Mostly veggie-centric but the menu was varied and authentic. I was also surprised at the moderate prices for creative, original restaurant food. I also liked the urban feel. Not sure I can put my finger on exactly what made the difference but since we moved from Boston (admittedly not a particular foodie heaven!?) but I have found either over-priced, over-proud food (city prices and city attitude without necessarily the quality) or frozen and reheated attempts at real food. Okay, I digress. This is a real spot, I will be back. In fact, I looked it up again now b/c I'm going again tonight!! Great date night but I see reviewers say "No" to good for kids but they have a kids' menu. I think early must be good for kids and my (well behaved, dining experienced) kids will be back with me another day. Kids $8-12 dinner is a nice bonus when trying to take out the family. 3 of us went here last night to celebrate our friends birthday. We sat in their 'garden' which left a bit to be desired as far as ambience goes. We ordered apps from both their daily specials and menu which were very good. And 2 out of 3 of our entrees were good, the skirt steak was fatty and not too great. I snuck out after entrees to find a staff member to ask about putting a candle in our dessert. The first person I came across was our busboy, I asked him in English but he just stared at me so I tried again in Spanish and he seemed to get it...guess not. All he did until the unadorned dessert arrived was make goo-goo eyes at me. The birthday girl was a bit let down and I was a bit disgusted. The ambiance is casual and comfortable. The wait staff was nice enough but they made us feel hurried-no doubt being encouraged to move things along. Despite no one waiting for a table and empty ones available, it was clear that we were being encouraged to leave. The food was nothing special. The salad was nice, but laden with a bit too much dressing. We had specials-one a lobster pasta dish and a lemon sole. The sole smelled fishy and was overwrought with cut potatoes and tomatoes and broccolini (I think that's what is was). It was under seasoned and bland. The lobster dish was okay. The dessert, a peach, cream and phyllo concoction was good. Given the varied reviews, I wonder if the differences are related to the chef of the day or the menu items chosen. Great Food & Service. We've never had a bad experience here before. Restaurant is very accommodating & careful with my children's Multiple Food Allergies and they are able to whip up very creative & delicious food AND DESSERTS. Families with Food allergies know how hard it is to make our children feel included & Basilico gets 10 stars for their effort! Their Arrabiata is "to die for". Its not tomato based like most restaurants. No one else makes it this way. Try squid ink pasta but ask for the Fra Diavalo with Lobster & shrimp instead. Fish is always good as is everything else & their Daily Specials!!! Some specials they have made us feel like it was the best meal we had ever! Love the mushroom soup, but today was lentil with sweet potatoes and cabbage. Looks like traditional lentil soup but you taste the cabbage for sure. That alone with the bread and butter should have been lunch. I also had the chicken parm with pasta which also was a perfect lunch portion. The place quickly filled up and the waiter forgot us. New to area went on a Tuesday night with use of restaurant.com coupon ,I was totally shocked of both the fabulous quality of food as well that there was a coupon for this restaurant.Would definitely dine there frequently as everything from food quality,service and menu where surprisingly top notch. Was there yesterday for lunch with 2 friends who frequent there, Wow what a lunch 3 dozen west coast oysters to start, 3 Foie Gras with a sweet scallop and figs, like a perfect marriage. Then we all had a stuffed Veal Chop, was awesome. A Pastry Chef on premises is a great thing. She made us 3 desserts. Grand Mariner Soufflé, homemade Napoleon and a Tres Leches. I am a subscriber to the Papermill Playhouse and eat here at least once a month. The food is always top notch with the service being just as good. Went there with my wife and son, service and food were consistently solid! We shared a house salad and main course pasta that was excellent. For mains i had the short ribs w/Risotto that we all voted as best dish on the table. Wife had the Orata alla Mediterranea (fish) and my son the Branzino, both were quite good but the short ribs took the prize. I was only here once for a surprise birthday dinner and my first impression was a good one. A smaller restaurant but very good food. We had a four course meal as part of our party package. We started with the eggplant rollatini..one word..delicious! I want to go back just for that! For the pasta course we had ravioli..again...very very good! We were all full then within minutes here comes our giant dinner portions. I had the chicken parm with spaghetti. Again..very good. The only complaint i had about Basilico was the staff. The waiters and waitresses were very slow and kept forgetting our drinks and to come back and check on us. We had to get up a few times to find our waiter for our drinks. I can't give this any better then a 3 star since i have only been there once. The food is 5 star without doubt. read more

Typically we go for Dinner but today for a first time we did lunch. They have a very good lunch menu with smaller plates. They also have a popular pastry chef so save room for dessert. The ambiance is warm and inviting, the food is always spectacular, and the waiters/busers are very pleasant and attentive. Tried the pumpkin cheesecake this weekend and had to rave!! My girlfriend and I went to eat at this comfy hot spot last evening and had a delicious meal that we hadn't found in a while. We were dressed up nicely, but we could have worn a nice pair jeans as well. I had made reservations from the http://www.basilicomillburn.com/ web site which took me to www.opentable.com once I clicked on the icon for "Make a Reservation." It was very convenient and easy. Once you''ve done this, you should try to arrive a little earlier to find parking which really isn't ample. Once inside, you'll find small tables and a long bench seat along the wall going towards the back of the restaurant. There is a bar you can sit at and drink while you wait, but you'll have to BYO because alcohol is not served here so bring your favorite bottle of red or white or both. The Crema di Funghi aka cream of mushroom soup is a must to try as an appetizer. I like it a lot because it's not too creamy and not brothy either. They give you plenty of wild mushrooms to enjoy mmmmmmmm! My lovely girlfriend ordered the Arancini (2) aka Sicilian Rice Balls which have a fried rice outer shell but the inside is delicate and filled with sweat peas, a dollop of marinara sauce and a little meat. For the main course my girlfriend ordered the veal special which was a filet served over a fava bean risotto, spinach and potatoes. I enjoyed a wonderful Cappesante al Tartufo Nero (Pan-seared sea scallops in a black truffle sauce with sweet peas and wild mushrooms). I loved both dishes but my dish, I thought, was to die for. My girlfriend loved it so much she kept picking at my dish. The mushrooms were wonderful and full of flavor and the sea scallops were pan-seared to perfection, not rubbery like I've experienced at other places in my past experience. We were so happy with our meal that talked about it on the way home and a few other times during the day today. This is authentic Italian how it should be served. The Arancini were almost as good as my mothers'. Make your reservation soon, you won't be sorry. read more

Been here 3 times in the past year - Horrible, Average, and Horrifying. The first time I ate here the food was basically inedible. It tasted like old shoes and I could not eat it. My husband and I went the second time and it was very average. We just went again tonight and our waiter had such a bad cold he should have been home in bed. We were only at the bar, and got appetizers (which the very sick man did not serve) but seriously, it was vile. It's a week before Christmas and I'm sure he spread his germs EVERYWHERE and did not seem to be concerned at all with hygiene. My husband is a real picky "foodie" and we both LOVE this restaurant. The quality of the food is great. I especially like their octopus salad and whole Branzino.
