It's been years since I have been here. I am so glad things have not changed. Food is still good and Antonio is still around. Consistent. Delicious. Friendly staff.

Attended my company Christmas luncheon at this restaurant & I was impressed. Definitely returning with my husband. The food was delicious & eye catching. The service was prompt & courteous.

A generous one olive and one garlic clove per person.

I see the word "casual" all over, and that is fitting here. This is a nice casual Italian spot in a town full of formal Italian of high quality. And this is no knock on the quality here, but I paid a formal price for a casual meal and that is not going to fly. Check my photos - they brought out 3 olives to start. One olive per person. With more than one garlic clove per person. I'm pretty sure that is quite far from most people's ideal olive to garlic to person ratio. Not to mention the plate was drowning in olive oil that required more than the two thin slices of bread per person to sop up. Breadsticks don't soak up oil very well, though they're tasty. At these prices, you can afford to bring out a normal plate of about 12-15 olives like other restaurants. Or, you know, price according to your casual atmosphere. On to the meal. Check my photo. It was a nice meal, although a few parts of it were odd. Carrot slices don't really belong in Italian food. The one random zucchini wedge was a bit out of place. Finally, broccoli is definitely a part of Italian cuisine, but not in a giant steamed tree on the side of the plate. It's supposed to be in pieces mixed into the dish. So I have some presentation and ingredient issues there. The other issue is the portion. If I'm ordering a basic dish of basic chicken and vegetables, I expect more than a single small potato cut in half. Two flattened chicken breasts is okay, but not tiny ones like this (they basically equalled one normal one). The vegetables were also more of a "one of this, one of that" instead of a good, healthy mix. For $22, either feed me really high quality food, or really large quantities of good food. This place is not doing these things. It's trying to get by on hoping Livingston is conditioned to pay more without getting more. Maybe that'll work, but I would rather add to the atmosphere for that kind of money. Food's fine, wallet beware.

Nice atmosphere and great owners. They create cool, contemporary cuisine for discerning taste buds. We had a nice time.

Sat down at 12pm and left at 3:30pm. We were there THREE AND A HALF HOURS chasing down the waitresses so we could ORDER, so we could ORDER DESSERT, so we could freaking PAY. It was literally one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. The food wasn't even that good and portions are tinyyyy. The majority of the time was spent waiting, not eating. They never came back after we ordered. I don't care if they don't want to check up on their customers, but could you at least refill waters??? I understand why Sweet Basil's is so much more popular, even if prices are a bit higher.

Cappuccino $4.50

I was really happy with the lunch I ate here. The cappuccino was strong and the frittata I ordered was cheesy and meaty. It was also about a diameter in size. It was delicious. It was a potato, pepperoni, tomato, and spinach frittata with asiago cheese on top. The frittata was only $9 too and filled me up for the whole day. If I'm ever in the area again I'm coming back. Note: I had to pay in cash for part of my bill so be ready for that. It may not be 100% credit card acceptable.

On my second visit, I tried the blackened shrimp and corn cakes, and that dish alone inspired me to finally leave a review. Every ingredient was so vibrant and delightful, with flavors that complimented each other beautifully. The sweet corn cakes combined with the heat of the shrimp and the creamy avocado were perfect. The various textures made each bite even better. My friend also loved the american waygu burger. The place was pretty packed around 4:30 pm on a Saturday, but service was still pretty quick. Our waitress was also super sweet and attentive. Definitely one of the best dinners I've had in the area. Amazing spot!!

My nephew who lives nearby treated us to an al fresco meal recently while visiting for a family event. My pulled pork smashed burger was everything you want in a packed meat sandwich, with an onion ring and tangy sauce on the brioche bun. The sweet potato fries and a refreshing mocktail to drink made for a perfect meal. Sweetie ate a pasta bolognese (I think) which looked and ate good, and drowned it with a nice glass of red wine. It was packed on the Friday night we visited, with folks lined up for seating, or to hang at the bar and enjoy the bar scene. No reservations. Our late dinner worked fine as the mostly millennial and Gen-Z crowd started thinning shortly after we arrived. Millburn has always been a draw for neighboring townsfolk in search of a meal out. I remember this foodie town from 25 years ago, when its pizza, kosher and diner offerings were top notch. It seems to have upgraded its food scene several notches since my last visit so many years ago. Pure nostalgia for me which made for a very flavorful evening. TOP TIP: Street parking in this part of town is a hassle and the local cops keep a sharp eye for illegally parked cars and inebriated drivers. So park further away from the center of town where you are more likely to snag a legal spot on a busy night.

[Blowing on my nails.] The menu is a mix of American comfort food and gastropub classics, but with flair, and has a bit of everything to satisfy different palates. Our eyes were probably bigger than our stomachs as we ordered 2 apps, 2 entrees, and 2 cocktails, and it was an enormous amount of food. The portions are definitely what you'd call hearty, and everything was very tasty. Thursdays are all day happy hour so we picked the fried calamari appetizer at the HH price (still a full and generous plate and didn't seem like a downsized version) which were tender and well-battered, as well as the hot honey wings which were meaty and substantial. The short rib parpadelle with housemade pasta and a perfectly medium-rare, well seasoned hanger steak with truffle fries completed our satisfying and belly-stuffing meal. The cocktails are serious as well - the presence of a drink with egg white is my personal litmus test for a bar that knows what it's doing, so the Thyme to Bloom special had my name on it. I'm salivating just looking at photos of dishes I didn't order, and am already plotting my return!

Review: Café Faubourg - Montclair…read more Café Faubourg is one of Montclair's true gems--an authentic French bistro that feels as if it were lifted straight from a quiet Parisian street and placed right in the heart of town. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance sets the tone: warm lighting, intimate tables, and that unmistakable bistro charm that makes every meal feel like a small escape. The food is consistently excellent, starting with their hummus, which is surprisingly standout for a French spot. Smooth, flavorful, and beautifully plated, it's the perfect way to begin the meal and pairs wonderfully with their fresh bread. The steak frites is a must-order and easily one of the best in the area. The steak is tender and cooked exactly to preference, richly seasoned without being heavy, and served alongside crisp, golden fries that are everything you want in a classic bistro dish. It's simple, authentic, and prepared with the kind of care that elevates a traditional favorite into something memorable. Service at Café Faubourg is warm and attentive without being intrusive, contributing to the relaxed elegance of the experience. Whether you're dropping in for a casual dinner or celebrating a special occasion, the staff makes you feel welcome and unrushed. For anyone looking for an authentic French bistro experience in Montclair--excellent food, inviting ambiance, and truly charming service--Café Faubourg delivers every time.

The inside has both a main dining hall and a greenhouse, which feels like basically sitting on a covered patio with well kept shrubbery and ambient lighting. It's a neat balance of modern and open while still feeling cozy. I think my favorite dish is the ramp fava bean toast -- the umami from the purée balanced with the crunch of the toast and the brightness from the pickled ramps. I'd also recommend the steak two ways -- both cuts cooked perfectly to medium rare -- and the lobster linguine was delicately fragrant, buttery, and slightly acidic all at once. The chips and eggplant dip (kind of like hummus consistency) was kind of a fun, shareable starter too. I will say that I wasn't impressed with the ceviche or branzino our waiter recommended it. The branzino particularly came out a bit dry, and more of the tomato-olive-caper side or dressing would've helped. And while our waiter answered our questions, service felt a little more on the less attentive side.

My colleagues got the lobster roll + champagne and I got the "sliders" with a side of truffle fries. They had happy hour prices for drinks as well, so we got a few glasses of wine and cocktails. They were HUGE. Almost the size a full size burger. One of the owners stopped by and laughed that it was the only size buns they had --- but it's seriously such a great + tasty deal! Honestly would come back for these happy hour sliders alone! Overall we had a great time here.
