Pasta Flavio: where it's not all about the Flavor, for better or worse. To be fair, this order was takeout, so the judgment is mainly on the food, and nothing for the ambiance. Service was on time, order was done correctly... we _think_. To be clear: * Don't rely on the menu descriptions. The alfredo sauce, for example, is not the creamy texture you're used to. It's cheesy bits in oil. Not bad, but not what I was expecting. And "truffles" were invisible - just the oil, not shreds of mushroom. * Compared to my favorite local establishment, The Pasta Shop in Denville, the pasta is a noticeable step lower in texture. There are fewer varieties of pasta here than the Shop, but on the other hand, much more customizable plates. The Pasta Shop is set up where you can order from their standard menu or their daily specials, withhold an item if you're allergic. Here at Flavio, you can choose your meat(s), sauce(s), toppings (up to 7, and then I imagine you can choose more at a cost). And you get a lot of meat - my chicken was hidden in the photo, but stirring turned it all up. And it wasn't too salty, and nicely grilled. But the other toppings, you get less. My arrabiata pepper was shredded in very sparse amounts. Struggled to find other veggies. Only a few garlic cloves, tho nicely roasted. Verdict? Will sacrifice quantity (of what can be ordered) for quality and stick with The Pasta Shop. read more

Had lunch specials at 14 each: spaghetti meatballs, meatball hero and fish hero. Also got garden salad. Salad was well seasoned without being drowned in dressing. Good portions of pepper, cucumber, olives, small mozzarella balls with sprinkling of cheese. We shared, it was generous. They didn't have spaghetti so we opted for angel hair. I took a colleague to lunch. The restaurant was empty. The fact that it was empty, is a climb against good food. This restaurant deserves a regular and loyal clientele. The garden salad was generously portioned and absolutely excellent. Mixed greens, flavorful, grape tomatoes, delicious small balls of mozzarella cheese. Dressed but not drowned, the way salad should be. The homemade linguine Arrabiata was perfect. The pasta was perfectly cooked. It had just the right mouth feel for great fresh pasta. The sauce was made of Corsley, chopped fresh tomatoes and Calabrian chilies. it was absolutely delicious, neither too hot, nor too sweet. My colleague had homemade spaghetti with meatballs. These were authentic meatballs, small, not like the softballs characteristic of bad Italian restaurants. The marinara sauce was absolutely wonderful. The pasta, again, perfect. I want to go back to try his other specialties. The service was attentive, the owner, enthusiastic and warm. This restaurant deserves community support. Great meals and great service. My wife, her best friend friend and I had really wonderful meals at Pasta Flavio today. Because of Lent we all had fish for dinner. The ladies loved their salmon dishes and my filet of sole was delicious. The accompanying soups and salads were hearty and also delicious. This is our third visit to Pasta Flavio and if it wasn't so far from home I'm sure we would be eating there much more frequently. We all recommend Pasta Flavio with hesitation. We recently had dinner at Pasta Flavio after hearing such raving reviews and all I have to say is trust reviews and all the great reviews are right on point. We were more than pleasantly surprised after our dinner. We ordered multiple dishes including the fried calamari, which was absolutely delicious. The marinara sauce was exquisite and the calamari was fried to perfection with a very unique flavor and great consistency. We also ordered the chicken francese, chicken parm and chicken carbonara which were both absolutely delicious. We also tried many more of their pastas, including the penne a la vodka, Alfredo pasta, and pesto ravioli. Everything was fresh and made to order. The flavor was outstanding. The staff are so kind and warm and make you feel like home. Menu is basic. Food is basic. Pasta is fresh, proteins seem to be frozen. Even the bread appeared to have been frozen. Kept hearing a microwave timer and then food appeared. This was some of the absolute BEST Italian food I've ever had. The pasta noodles are homemade, I got the chicken parm which was cooked to perfection and my husband got the lasagna which had a huge portion of meat in it as well.
