This is a great littlw hole in the wall I discovered in Vancouver. It wasn't very far from our hotel and since the hubs likes Italian I figured it would be a good option for us. It was! As I mentioned, it is tiny inside. However there is seating. We ordered at the counter and when it was teady they brought it out to us. As you can see from my photos, the portions are large. You definitely get your money's worth and the quality is good too. I had a lot of veggies in mine so it looks bigger while the hubs went with just meat sauce. There were lots of people whi ordered ahead and came in to get takout. I would recommend.

    Coconut Cream Ravioli, Tiramisu Cake
    Dana S.

Decided to give this a try because it's open late and near where I was working that evening. I really wanted to like it, but the execution was underwhelming. The environment was not the most comfortable either - there was an unpleasant smell that I noticed when I was standing at the register to order, though I thankfully could not detect it from my table, and it was very chilly inside. The staff was friendly, though. I ordered the coconut cream ravioli without the chicken and a tiramisu. With the ravioli, I found the sauce to be pretty bland (even after adding black pepper and red pepper flakes), which is not what you expect or want from something called "curry cream" sauce. The garnishes of fresh basil and coconut flakes were missing, which was disappointing since some fresh herb would have contributed massively to the flavour. I had no problem with the ravioli and how they were cooked, but the asparagus were still a little fibrous. You can see into the kitchen, so I could watch them sauteeing the vegetables to order, but I would guess that most of what they use is either frozen or from a can because they did not taste fresh. I did like that there were lots of vegetables. I just felt that the dish fell way short of what it could have been. It was $16.45 and a big portion, but I'm not sure if it was worth it for something that I know I could've made better at home without a ton of work. The tiramisu was fine (and also pretty big - I would actually want to share this if I was dining with someone else), but while the pasta for dine-in came in a plate, this came in a plastic takeout bowl with the lid on, and the cream on top stuck to the lid when I took it off. What's pictured is my attempt to reconstruct it. It seems a shame to ruin the presentation like this when they could've just served it on a plate and kept it intact with no wasted plastic. If I give them another chance, I will order something with a red sauce and see if it comes out better.

Shrimp pesto linguine before I found the hairs
    Jason T.

I got two long strands of hair in my shrimp pesto pasta. The pasta was also cooked well past al dente and was super mushy. Flavour was also lacking. Although, it was an uber eats order, so I also don't expect things to be comparable to dining at the restaurant. I understand that hair in food happens but it was two long strands in different parts of the pasta. They should really wear hair nets or tie up their hair in the kitchen to avoid this.

Loud music. Staff was putting on makeup in the cooking area. Then saw her twisting nose hairs. Then she came out to mirror in eating area and started coming her hair. Rest of time staff just socializing. . It's a semi self serve place. Cheap. $14 you can feed 2 people. I liked the food but my friend hated the whole experience

Basil Pasta Bar is a delicious restaurant with the perfect environment for a good casual feel! You will be able to find something for the whole family here; as there is an option to build your own pasta specific to your liking! The only reason I didn't rate 5 stars is because some of the people I was dinning with felt like too much cheese was added to their entrees. Overall great experience and I would recommend!!

Very delicious pasta; always a good time~ I especially like the ability to customize and build your own pasta under one price. Most places make customization hard because the prices add up super quick. The portions are really good. A little to much for me to eat, but you can get them to put one order on two plates and share with a friend :)

Linguine with shrimp and marinara sauce
    Smaly K.

I really like the concept of this place: pick the pasta, your protein, and your toppings, and your sauce. It was a bigger portion that I expected for the cheap price. The girl ringing us up was very friendly. I ordered my pasta with the curry sauce, and although I didn't really love the flavor (it was better with a little bit of salt and pepper), I enjoyed my meal. I was pretty satisfied afterwards without having to spend so much money. If I was ever in the area again, I would definitely give another pasta dish with a different sauce a try.

First visit in a while, I really should eat here more often as the value is excellent. Had the smoked salmon fettuccine and a minestrone soup. Both were very good.

The service was also great, with multiple people checking in on us. The corkage, at $20, is very reasonable and the restaurant even comp'ed our tiramisu! We will miss it once it is gone. The food was quite decent. I thought the prices were a bit inflated for just pasta, but the portion size was pretty massive -- most of us took leftovers to go. The sauces in general were a bit bland and the pasta was definitely cooked to beyond al dente, which isn't my preference for dried pasta. That said, the toppings were generous, especially for the linguine crab that I ordered (would highly recommend!). Come by before they close permanently!

Creamy but not too heavy I wish it had more bacon but it was delicious all around. The daily special veal was also amazing. The veal was juicy and perfectly seasoned and paired with the creamy pasta was perfect. We ended with the panacotta which was fresh, fruity and light! Will definitely be back!!

My friends and I recently shared a few dishes here, and while the flavors were truly impressive,…read morethe portion sizes left us wanting more. We started with the complimentary bread, which was a total highlight. Each person gets a fresh slice that has an incredible crust and a soft, pillowy center--dipping it into the oil and vinegar was the perfect way to start the meal. For our mains, the Gnocchi Asparagi e Funghi was my favorite - the gnocchi themselves were clearly handmade and had a great texture that didn't feel heavy. The earthy mushrooms and asparagus worked really well with the parmesan cream, which was rich but didn't overpower the other flavors. The Squid Ink Linguine ai Frutti di Mare was also solid; the lobster bisque base gave it a deep, savory saltiness that coated the clams, prawns, and scallops perfectly without making the dish feel too "fishy." We also tried the Candele Al Ragù D'Anatra. The duck ragu was tender and savory, and the combination of the parmesan fondue and aged asiago added a nice, sharp saltiness that made every bite really satisfying. Everything we ate was seasoned perfectly and tasted fresh, it's just a shame the portions were so small because the flavors were definitely there. The service was excellent and very attentive; I especially appreciated that they were constantly on top of refilling my water throughout the night. The ambience also hit the right note, making it a great spot for a night out. However, the portions are definitely on the smaller side and aren't super filling. Even though every dish tasted amazing, we weren't full by the end of the meal, so it's something to keep in mind if you're arriving with a big appetite.

The seafood ravioli was tasty and I'd have it again. The pappardelle was decent although didn't have as much depth or complexity of flavour as it could've. The bruschetta, which was kind of like an open faced sandwich - a spread on bread with some prosciutto on top (no tomatoes in case that's what you're expecting!), was pretty meh and I wouldn't order it again. Service was nice enough. It's a cute, cozy spot in Gastown. Overall, it was just fine but given the abundance of great Italian restaurants in town I probably would go elsewhere when craving pasta.

The restaurant was cute, cozy, and could seat us right away so we decided to give it a try. We got the poached pear salad and enjoyed it! The pears were delicious and a very refreshing salad. It did come with burrata on top which was a bit disappointing since it wasn't gooey at all. For our mains, we split the pesto rigatoni and the special which was also a rigatoni with white wine, capers, shrimp and lemon. First off, the noodles are delicious on both dishes. They are clearly handmade in the best way possible. Very tender, delicate, and almost melt in your mouth. The pesto dish was perfect but again the burrata on top was disappointing since it was sort of tough/dry and not gooey. The special dish was very good but the lemon was quite strong. Initially it was a bit too much but it did grow on you over time and I did like the dish. We ended with a tiramisu and while it was delicious, there wasn't much of the bread/cake/cookie part as it was mostly cream. Overall, it was fun to try a new place but I expected a more for the price point. For $35 per plate plus salad and dessert it was a very expensive dinner and we weren't full.
