This restaurant is situated on Grand Avenue, so be mindful that parking may be very limited. Upon entering the restaurant, the savory smell of spice hits you in a great way. The ceilings are very tall, so conversations from others were not heard while dining. Our server was very nice and explained any menu items we needed further clarity on. They start you with what I called veggie straws with a chili oil dipping sauce as a complimentary starter. They serve alcohol--mostly basic cocktails at very reasonable prices. For our appetizer, we ordered Bhindi Fries, which were french fries with their signature sweet chili sauce, which I could describe as what Thai Chili Sauce tastes like. It was topped with chives and cilantro and very irresistible. For our dishes, I ordered chicken Tikka masala while my friend ordered butter chicken. They both had a drizzle of heavy cream for flair. We also ordered garlic butter parathas, which were so flaky, buttery, and heavenly I want to make some at home. It paired well dipping into our dishes or solo. The chicken in my dish was very well seasoned and the perfect amount of heat for me. Every bite I savored! I could not finish my entire meal, so I did save some for lunch the next day, and it was still amazing. We ended our night with mango lassi and definitely plan to dine here again!

Some of the best Indian takeout I've had in STL. The chili paneer had the perfect flavor and texture combo. Butter chicken is a bit on the sweeter side but I absolutely loved it. I could literally drink the sauce. This place hit all the right notes, even if they aren't reinventing the wheel. Favorite dishes: Chili paneer, butter chicken

We ordered the Hyderabad chicken and Lahore paneer. Amazing. The flaky paratha are underwhelming. Not that great. Wish they had more bread options. Rice was flavorful Noodles were bland Good amount of spice I would come here for the food. Don't expect anything else. The service was HORRIBLE The decor is so dingy

The staff was very kind and helpful ordering. The restaurant was cute and clean and smelt AMAZING just when you walk in the door. The food was by far the best part they have many vegan and vegetarian options and they taste just as good as the meat version. We will be going back!

Yellow Curry and Lamb Vindaloo with basmati rice and paratha bread

Absolutely delicious! We each had a cup of Tom Yum soup which was piping hot and spicy. This was followed by Lamb Vindaloo, Yellow Curry with chicken and paratha bread which is similar to naan. Both entrees were excellent! Just the right level of spices and heat. Server was attentive and friendly. Ambiance is pretty with interesting paintings on the walls. We will come here again for sure!

I would recommend this place 100 times over. The food is so delicious! I have been multiple times and I have liked everything I've tried. The food comes out hot and fresh. I really enjoyed the chai beverage. I like how they have two sides of the menu which provides you with more options. I definitely recommend the chicken tikka masala. The service is good and they usually have seating available. I enjoy the ambience as well and the decor in the restaurant. They definitely get busy on the weekends so make sure you get there early.

We returned to Basil India. The food is full of heat, even the selections marked 'mild.' We chose out items carefully keeping this in mind. The restaurant itself still looks hastily set up with a mush mash of tables and decorations. When we visited a year ago, they were new and perhaps did not have the opportunity to purchase better accoutrements. Our dinner for two was more expensive than we expected. It was $73 and with the added tip in the high eighties, putting our dinner at over $40 a person. Even though the food was interesting, I doubt if we will return again. The cost of the meal may have been acceptable if the experience was finished with better tables, chairs and quieter environment. The noise level was very high in this establishment. When we left, every table was full and there were people standing uncomfortably in the restaurant waiting for a table to sit at. We could not hear our waitress and had to ask her to repeat herself a number of times. She asked if we wanted bread with our meal and my husband agreed. She then offered some choices and the way she offered the bread, or naan, it sounded like it came along with the meal (like Italian bread at a pasta house.). But beware that this is a separate menu item and expense.

Basil India seems to have reduced their menu offerings to just mainly Indian items - they had many Asian items that had been marked off as they mentioned they're changing up their menu a bit. We were totally OK with this since the food we did order was delicious! Our waitress had recommended the Chicken Lababdar as it has a tomato base and a nice amount of spice. The gravy was delicious and fresh, there were big chunks of chicken that were perfectly cooked! We also got 2 paranthas to eat with the chicken - they were smaller than we had expected But there were 4 total pieces for each type which was more than enough! They were buttery, soft, flaky, and delicious. We enjoyed the Bollywood music that was playing in the background as well Can't wait to come back here again!

Clockwise from 12, Parathas, Butter chicken, Masaman curry, Green curry, Garlic parathas.

The service was also quick, and our food came out promptly. We started with the Cucumber Salad, which was fresh and refreshing. The standout dishes were definitely the Basil Fried Rice, which was packed with flavor, the Pad Kapow, which was fantastic, and the Spicy Drunken Noodles, which are absolutely worth ordering if you enjoy Thai food. We also tried the Red Curry and Panang Curry. Both were decent but didn't stand out as much as the other dishes and felt a bit average in comparison. Overall, we had a really enjoyable meal. If you're in the area and craving Thai food, this is definitely a solid choice, especially for the fried rice, Pad Kapow, and drunken noodles.

They had 2 wait staff working when we went and both greeted us immediately and seated us inside. Their air conditioning was broken and awaiting repair and they had signs throughout explaining that. It was still cooler inside than out so we sat inside. I was curious what a butterfly lemonade was so I ordered one. It was good and quite refreshing with traditional lemonade at the bottom topped with a vibrant deep purple concoction on top. After I educated myself, I found that the deep purple concoction is steeped tea made from butterfly pea flowers. We started with some egg rolls - fried with ground pork and vegetables and served with sweet and sour sauce. The sauce was great! I normally pass as most of them have a cloyingly sweet flavor that I don't like but theirs had a really good balance of flavors amd not too sweet. The egg rolls were flavorful enough to stand on their own though and yes, delivered piping hot to the table. I had the drunken noodles with beef at medium spicy level. At first bite, I was immediately able to taste the spicy level I chose. A great sign. Then I sniffed and started sweating. Another great sign of good spice level. My husband ordered the yellow curry with tofu and medium spice level as well. At first he said it could be hotter but then midway through he decided it was more of a build up and thought the level was actually perfect. Serving size was great. You can definitely get another meal out of an order! We took the rest of our food home. I cannot wait to eat my leftovers today. What a great spot for a delicious, quick dinner!

Everything flowed smoothly from start to finish thanks to our server and her team. The khao soi is a must. It's easily one of my favorite versions in St. Louis. It's one of their most popular dishes for good reason, and it was one of the first plates to disappear. The pad see ew was good but lacked a little for me. Tip: go for spice level four. We ordered everything at level three, and it leaned on the milder side. We also tried the tom yum soup with seafood, which was solid, just not my personal favorite. Unlike the atmosphere in the Thai restaurants in West County, the place is almost austere. That is not a bad thing, because it has outdoor seating available with shade from old neighborhood trees. The service was attentive and friendly. I needed a phone charge at the staff was kind enough to plug my phone at the counter and keep an eye on it. The food was a different twist on what we expected. We sampled their Thai Stix, which relate to a crab Rangoon, but the nicely melted cream cheese is flavored with kankimama and scallions. They are a bit messy, but worth it. Their Hoy Jaw are deep fried dumplings of shrimp, crab and mixed pork, deep fried with a crunchy texture. Both of these small plates come with a bright sweet chili sauce. The chicken satay were tender, moist and came with a peanut sauce that was the perfect blend between almost peanut butter and being too runny. For me, the best part of the meal was the Hung Lay Curry. The dish combines pork belly and pork shoulder, perfect cooked and tender in a curry that includes palm sugar, turmeric, peanuts, and fresh ginger. The curry is not dominated by curry powder, and has a rich, satisfying flavor that can be compared to a rich ramen broth. Spoon the sauce over the rice to let the flavors soak in. For those who think curry is spicy, this dish is not. Instead, it has the comfort food vibe that is a unique for me in eating Thai food. It was moderately busy but was completely packed by the time we left. The space is small but they make it work, and the menu is nice and simple. I did run into a hiccup ordering. I asked for 'no chili' because I can't handle spice, and the waiter came back a few minutes later confused about what to remove, thought I'd said 'celery'. I clarified it was the chili, and he left, then came back again to tell me they actually couldn't remove it since it's mixed into the sauce. So I switched to a different random dish that didn't have chili in the name, hoping that would solve it. Because of the mix up, my food came out a good ten minutes after everyone else's, but by that point I was hungry enough not to care. I ended up with a stir fry with rice on the side which was pretty flavorful and I finished it because I was starving. My friends got the curry and pad thai and both cleaned their plates, so those seemed like good picks too. I loved the hanging plants inside. Overall it was a decent experience, nothing outstanding but nothing bad either, just that repeated confusion over my order that got a little frustrating. Might give it another shot, but it's not high on my list right now.
