I'm shocked this place has 4.5 stars. The Thai food is thoroughly unauthentic and flavorless. They need to take this terrible "Pad Thai" off the menu or look up the recipe on how this dish is made. The miso soup was completely watered down. Service was minimal and slow. Maybe we ordered the wrong things and their sushi is better? We won't be back to find out. read more

We've eaten/ordered here probably 6 or 7 times. Usually a good experience, but this last visit left a bad taste in my mouth. We brought our own beer because that's what we had done on previous visits. They did not used to serve alcohol. They do now, which is no problem. We were happy to order drinks from the menu. We simply asked the waitress to put our beer in the fridge. She was extremely rude and told us she would charge us $10 per beer to bring it into the restaurant. We informed her the only reason we brought it was because they used to not serve alcohol and allowed it to be brought in. We were happy to order drinks from the menu. She then proceeded to tell us they have always served alcohol. NOT TRUE! She argued back and forth with me. You can read older reviews that even prove me right. The craziest part was we didn't even care about drinking the beer! We weren't trying to drink it! She was being rude for no reason.... It was just bad after that. We ordered wine and a few rolls. We waited forever just to get a glass of water. We ordered the sweetheart roll, which we've ordered several times. It is usually shaped like a heart. This particular time it was not. Did it taste good? Sure, but it was like they didn't even want to be bothered. Really disappointed. This was our go to sushi place. After the way we were treated we will not likely return. read more

OMG! I lived in Japan for 3 years. When I tell you this food brought back the most wonderful memories, just trust me! TO DIE FOR!!!!!! The service is so completely on par with several high end restaurants in Dallas during lunch. You are greeted at the door of this super tiny space, I don't even think they have 10 tables in there. The owners are super friendly, all they want to do is make you happy, and the food is fabulous! The last two food vendors that owned the space did not succeed. If the word gets around for this little café in Rockwall there will be a stampede! People, hear me, this place is fabulous!! FABULOUS!!!! read more

Maybe it's the fact that we've had other Thai food to compare it too, but even for me, and I'm not too pickey, found the three plates we tried rather weird for my taste. I'm not sure if there's a specific type of oil that is used, but it just didn't do it for me. My new favorite restaurant in Rockwall! Wonderful decor and service! So misleading from the strip mall location. Started off with a nice glass of wine that was reasonably priced and the pineapple fried rice, crunchy and big coconut shrimp as well as delicious sushi!!! We will definitely be back!! read more

Great little place. It nice because it's so good and not busy. But unfortunately for the owners this location seems cursed. No one stays very long. I do hope this place will last. The food is very good! The service is nice and the place is decorated well and is very clean. I had the bento box lunch, steak teriyaki. This use to be my regular go to spot, food was on point, service was great, everything was wonderful! No, seriously the food was OUTSTANDING especially for Rockwall. The food is still really good especially if you haven't been coming since the beginning. I feel like it's less consistent and service I have to say is pretty darn slow when the restaurant is busy or even just slightly busy. I know they are trying their best but it seems they may be short staffed. Twice I've seen my food sitting at the sushi prep ready to be served and sitting over ten minutes waiting for someone to deliver to me when the rest of my table is eating. Also the Beef Nigiri which I absolutely love needs to be served right away so it is still slightly warm. If it sits it loses that element of amazingness and is disappointing knowing and watching it sit there, trying to flag down a server. I will definitely come back and give it another chance, not during peak time however. I will not be going as often as I once did when everything was once outstanding including service. If they can fix the service aspect "not being in the weeds" when the restaurant is half full plus, then I'm sure my rating will go up again. I really want to be in love with this restaurant again. read more

My husband and I came here on Sunday after church for the first time. The place is small and very cute!! We were welcomed as we walked in and service was great! We ordered the Lover Boat for 2 which includes 24 pieces of sushi/sashimi and choice of soup or salad for $48. Let me tell you,.. it was delicious! Sad we didn't get it in a "boat" they just brought it out in a big plate but the presentation was nice. Will go back to try other foods. read more

We love Basil Cafe!!! We have been eating there for 3 years now. Summer and Sunny are always there to greet us with a smile. They have the freshest seafood. Food selection was plentiful. Sashimi and sushi and potstickers/dumplings for my son. Fish wasn't as fresh as I'd like. Had a dryness and potstickers were soggy. Big negative was server wouldn't put us at the bigger table next to us when asked. We order a huge love boat and were sitting at a two top with a toddler. The best thing I ate here was the Indian pancake, funny because it's not an Indian restaurant. The shrimp in my friend's dish didn't taste fresh, though my salmon was fine. The rice was not spot on, tasted a bit stale. Service left a bit to be desired as well. read more

I'm quite surprised by all the glowing reviews for this restaurant, but my girlfriend and I went here for lunch and found it to be very mediocre, and definitely overpriced. I had the chicken yakiudon. The grilled chicken was pretty good, but the udon was very salty; I believe they use quite a lot of MSG here as I developed a reaction. The portions are also very small (think fine dining style). There are better places and we won't be returning. read more

Indian pancake: free with checkin. Very yummy. Love the curry sauce that come with it. Salmon skin roll: very good Sweet potato roll : just ok Pineapple chicken : love the sweet and spicy sauce. Do not like chicken breast in general. Replace it with shrimp and it would be a perfect dish. Yaki udon with beef: very good. Beef was tender. Clean and cozy place. Excellent service. read more
