Visited for Father's Day lunch. We sat on the patio, which was lovely. We had incredible service, everything came out relatively quickly. The food was absolutely delicious. Everyone in our party loved what they ordered.
Came in after researching peruvian places in the area, looked at the menu and really wanted the adobo. Had decently high but not crazy expectations because of the prices and needless to say coming here was definitely worth it. We got the Adobo and the Ceviche Mixto and we liked both a lot. The ceviche was one of the best I have ever had in awhile, the fish was fresh and a good variety, as well as the peruvian flavor was unique to set it apart from any other dish Ive had. I wish the portions were larger but the dish was amazing and I couldn't get enough, would recommend. The adobo was very flavorful and honestly the portion was a little bigger than I expected. I loved the texture of the meat as well, was recommended in hindsight to get a tortilla, I think this is a really good idea so maybe next time! Needed a to go box and honestly got pretty wavy off one drink no complaints here. To be honest this isn't something I care a lot about but I guess the selection of drinks could be more varied - if this is important to you perhaps you should factor this in. Overall- 8.5/10. This is a place I would recommend, food was great, servers were so nice to be honest. Making a reservation was very easy. Very satisfactory experience.
I had lunch here with a friend today. We were greeted and seated right away. Waters were brought to our table quickly. The food was outstanding! We shared the empanada platter, the Cebiche Chino-Peruano, and the fried plantains. I loved the "chips and salsa" that was served complimentary. Everything was so fresh and mouthwatering. We also ordered a couple of drinks that were pretty good. The unfortunate part of our lunch was the waitress assigned to our table was not attentive. I mean, she took our order and then we didn't see her again until toward the end of our meal. We asked for a refill of chips which she never brought. The entire rest of the staff were pulling their weight and we ended up getting our second round of drinks and chip refill from a very friendly gentleman who seemed to be doing all of the work while she was MIA. Everything else was amazing from the food and the fun vibes (live music out front). I definitely plan to go back but will avoid having the same waitress.
Got here early and it filled up shortly later. Service was fantastic. Everyone was polite and very quick to clear empty plates. Food came hot and fast, too! We sat outside and it wasn't too cold. The braised short ribs were delicious. The swordfish was ok. It was a bit under seasoned, but everything else in the dish was tasty. The octopus was cooked well like last time. We had empanadas, too. Was good. Had the flan too, but it wasn't what i expected. I thought the toasted quinoa would be better. It was too soft. The molten lava cake was molten, and for the price, it's much better than the flan. There's only one restroom.
This place has been our favorite spot for years. Whether it is for a date night, family hangout, or family get together, Barranco never disappoints. If you are looking for superb food, fantastic ambiance, and the most friendly service you will ever encounter, you will love this place. You cannot go wrong with their lomo saltado, ají de gallina, empanadas, or ceviche. Their drinks are dangerously delicious. The staff is so friendly you will feel part of the family.
It was a birthday celebration for a friend. A reservation for eight at 6:30pm had been made through Open Table. Unfortunately, one of the guests was unable to make it due to a scheduling conflict. We arrived early and were able to be seated before everyone else arrived. We were seated at the very back of the restaurant. Chips were placed on the table, and we ordered a pitcher of House Made Sangria. In many restaurants, Sangria is served with fruit in the glass as well as the pitcher. Here, the fruit was only in the glasses. We're not big drinkers, so while the flavor was very good, but we would have preferred more fruit. There was a lot of conversation before ordering, most of it not related to dinner. When it came time to place our orders, it was decided to order both Appetizers and Entrees at the same time. It was quite the chaotic scene, lol. For appetizers, we got Cerbiche Chino-Peruano, Cebiche Pescado and Palta Rellena. The flavors were excellent. The Avocado on the Palta Rellena may have been a day early to be served as it was quite firm to cut through but I think that's more of a personal preference. We got two orders of Arroz con Marisco. Surprisingly, we were not able to finish both plates. We ordered our food Family Style and everything was shared. Had we ordered individual dishes, this would have been my choice and I would have easily finished it. I found the Churrasco disappointing. Essentially, it's cut up Steak with Fries and Rice, not something I would ever order. What I didn't like was the Steak was covered by the Fries and I couldn't see the meat. And to me, the double starch of Rice and Fries doesn't make sense. I had a very small portion and was not impressed. The Seco de Res was interesting, but my wife felt that the Short Ribs were tough compared to other Short Ribs that we've had. Not so tough that we would send it back to the kitchen but definitely not something we would order again. This dish was her choice. The Aji de Gallina was pretty good. It's a dish that we often order in Peruvian restaurants. The Elote was okay. Unlike Mexican Elote that we've had, there was no mayonnaise which would have helped the Cotija Cheese "stick" to the corn. This was a birthday celebration and we had brought a cake with us. They stored it for us until the end of dinner and then brought fresh plates and forks. Our server also offered to cut and serve for us, but we dealt with that ourselves, making sure that she got a piece of cake as well. Service was good at the beginning and at the end of our meal. In the middle, it was lacking. Not because of anything the staff did or didn't do but we were there for a couple of hours, so we could see when the staff was getting overwhelmed. When the restaurant got busy, there simply wasn't enough staff. It looked like there was the Hostess, three servers and a runner. The smiles faded a bit and as they moved past tables, they lost eye contact with guests. Everyone was moving quickly, even the Hostess was serving water, drinks and chips. There was a man in a suit that greeted us at the end of dinner, but we hadn't noticed him until then. There were two musicians outside the restaurant to the left of the front doors. It's unfortunate that guests inside the building aren't able to enjoy the music while dining. I asked if I could get the wifi password and was told that the wifi wasn't working although I could see it on my phone. I mentioned that it would be nice to have some pillows to sit on. We were on a wooden bench, and I guess I don't have as much padding as I appear. Would we come back? Yes, I would give them another try if we needed dinner while in the area.
Trendy and delicious Peruvian spot in the Lafayette area! Came for a birthday dinner and it was the fastest service we ever experienced. All the food came out super quickly and with huge portions too We went with the ceviche sampler which was but different than I was expecting but came with lots of fresh fish and fun garnishments. We also grabbed a couple cocktails that were unique and tasty. I went with the squid ink seafood paella and my husband for the lomo saltado. Waitress was the best and we really enjoyed our dinner
Overall the food was too salty and the service wasn't good neither. Heads up that parking will be challenging too.
We went here for a birthday celebration and there is a lot of space for big groups. We had 8 people in our party and there was plenty of room for everyone. Service was attentive and the drinks were good. I had the sangria, which arrived in a very full glass loaded with juicy bits of fruits. My husband was very happy with his old fashioned. The pisco sour and pisco punch didn't seem too different from each other according to our family members who ordered them but I didn't try either of them. The empanada platter had four different types; beef, chicken, corn, and spinach & mushroom. They were delicious - savory with a hint of sweetness from the light dusting of powdered sugar, I think. It was served with a sauce but I thought they were fine on their own. The squid ink paella was rich with tender calamari rings, clams, shrimp, chunks of fish and slices of olives. It could have used a bit more acidity like a squeeze of lemon but it that's a minor complaint. The tuna tartare served with house made chips was also good and it had hominy mixed in with the avocado and ahi. It was topped with cucumber slices and a quarter of a hard boiled egg which surprisingly gave it some interesting texture. I liked it but it could do witha bit of added heat from peppers. I would come back here again and maybe next time I'll bring my ghost pepper sea salt to spice some entrees to my liking.
I love my experiences here each & every time. The grilled octopus, the cocktails & today far exceeded my expectation when the sun was out, patio seating is back & Rolando Morales was on the patio playing beautiful music!!! It doesn't get better than this!!
Found this Peruvian restaurant in Lafayette and has a great outdoor patio with a lot of space for seating, you also can find street parking, restaurants is right in downtown Lafayette great location!! Really nice host, good music, bar area, and indoor seating also available. I think the best dish that we tried was churrasco and the empanadas 10/10!! The worst main course that we got was the anticuchos, no flavor, dried, over cooked, just not ordering that again. Desserts were awesome, what a flavor! My favorite was alfajores!! Service was friendly

Came here on a Friday evening and was looking forward to finally trying this Peruvian place. The experience and food sadly were only ok. Took a while to get our order in and get the drink, pisco sour was good but very small. We ordered the ceviche chino peruano but clearly ended up with something else... (it didn't have wontons and was not ahi) since we were hungry and waiter was not to be found we ended up eating it... the yucca chips were mostly broken, like the remainder of a batch. Difficult to eat... Then ordered the short rib and pulpito. The baby octopus was a bit overcooked and chewy. I should've read the description better as I expected an octopus leg and not baby octopus... the short rib was okay, was lacking flavor. Our water never got refilled... just overall not the best experience. Maybe because we were sitting outside on the lower terrace, but still. Anywho, wouldn't go back and rather go to limon. read more

We arrived here on a recent Saturday night around 6:30pm and were seated immediately. By 7pm the restaurant was packed. So if you're planning to arrive after 6:30, I'd definitely get a reservation. We started with the Trio Platter of Chicken Empanadas. They were tasty. The sauce they serve with the empanadas has a tiny kick to it. This was the highlight of our dinner. I got the Aji Gallina, which is kind of like a Peruvian take on cassoulet. It's a very hardy dish. I was definitely full after eating it, but like cassoulet, it was pretty bland. And the jasmine rice that it comes with just added to the bulkiness of the dish. It tasted like plain old white rice to me. I glanced around for salt and pepper. Nope. But to be fair I didn't trouble the waitress about it. My partner in crime ordered the Arroz con Marisco, but with Chicken instead of shellfish. This dish was a big disappointment. There was a relatively small portion of chicken hidden under a mound of what was basically soggy french fries. This dish was also served with "jasmine" rice. Not a memorable dish by any stretch. Some of our previous visits deserved a 4 or a 5-star rating. But we didn't have entrees on those visits. We'd have a couple of drinks with a couple of empanada platters. To sum up, we're pretty disappointed in Barranco's entrees. Personally, I'd go to Limon instead, for tastier entrees. read more

Brought my family here for mother's day yesterday and had a very nice experience. I tried: - Cebiche Chino Peruano: my favorite dish of the entire meal. The flavors were perfectly balanced. Just the right amount of acidity and the mango was a pleasant surprise - Papa a la Huancaina: the creamy huancaina sauce was delicious, although the potatoes were slightly undercooked. - Tequeños: 2nd favorite! I love all things fried cheese and the sweet and tangy tamarind sauce was a nice addition - Jalea: I misread the menu and didn't realize this was an entirely fried dish. I couldn't finish it, but it was good. All of the various seafood was cooked well and the batter was nicely seasoned. The aioli had a bit of a kick to it that I really liked. - Pescado a lo Macho: such a rich, flavorful dish!! It's very easy to overcook seafood in a stew but that didnt happen here. So good. I'd order it again. - Lomo Saltado: nothing beats a classic. Next time I'll add a fried egg! - Alfajores: who doesn't love these cookies?! - Lucuma Ice Cream: I'd never had this before so it was cool to try something new. The flavor reminds me of caramel or maple syrup. Very sweet. - Coconut Panna Cotta: I love coconut so this was right up my alley. And the consistency was just how I like, nice and thick. - Pisco Sour: sour lol, but good! I know some people aren't a fan of the egg whites but I like the frothiness. The restaurant itself is nice. I'm a sucker for industrial design and that's exactly what this is. The customer service was also good. We were warmly welcomed and our waiter was friendly! We didn't have to wait long for our food or drinks. read more

I love Peruvian food and have been to Mochica, parada and this past weekend we try Barranco. The food was absolutely delicious, Chef Sebastian make sure our dishes were perfect with fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced flavors. The service was outstanding GM George was friendly, attentive, and really made our afternoon special. I highly recommend eggs Benedict and the ceviche it was a standout on the menu. We will definitely be back soon, this is our new favorite spot! read more

First time since February 2020 that a group of my friends got together irl to dine and dish. Barranco was a great choice. Except for a few minor missteps, nothing was truly a miss and most of the food was spectacular. The line cooks have their technique down and the exec chef really planned a well curated menu. The flavored lemonades had the right amount of tartness. I just wish the glasses had less ice and more beverage. The sangria was one of the best I've ever tasted. So perfect for the scorching hot day. The fried yucca balls were crave worthy. Delicate and not greasy at all. They were not the gut bombs I expected. The spareribs while not fall off the bone were still tender. The gochujang BBQ sauce was perfectly balanced with a nice gentle sweet heat. Enjoyed the crunchy coleslaw garnish. Nothing to say about the unassuming fried plantains except they were an awesome comfort food that I wanted to keep for myself. The empanadas were light and flaky. The chicken paella and lomo saltado were both good. Both meats were tender and juicy. The panna cotta was the star dessert. Light and delicate but not overly sweet, it showed the restrained hand of a master pastry chef. The alfajores were yummy but maybe not as the focus of a dish but as a garnish. With so many of the dishes being awesomely yummy, the slight missteps in the following stood out in comparison to the other dishes. The potatoes: the plate looked pretty but the disparate elements didn't really come together for me. The chicken chiccharones, basically nuggets, were a little greasy. The quinoa in the flan worked against the creaminess of the custard. It would probably have worked better as a toasted garnish sprinkled on top. The lava cake was dry and had no lava to speak of. Portions were slightly undersized for the price but that's the true cost of using quality ingredients, hiring skilled staff and creating a trendy dining space. Barranco is hitting all the right elements to be successful. read more
Located in the lovely neighborhood of Lafayette. Inviting layout, you can sit outside or inside. Peruvian inspired but from eating some of the food I'd like to say fusion, only because I can taste asian ingredients plus I have never seen Adobo and lobster mac and cheese listed at any Peruvian restaurant. Service was great, drinks were refreshing but food was A-ok. Let's see my fave were the Lobster mac and Ensalad salad. What fell short? Tasting of 3 ceviches- one tasted like Poke marinated, and the other two I was not fond of. The Ribs, a tad bit hard- I like ribs that fall off the bone and I could tell right away the smell was Asian. The Seafood Paella- a little watery. Usually it takes an hour to make this dish from all the places I've been too but was served within 15 mins. I'm not complaining but these are my personal opinions and great for a small city in Lafayette. I wished I tasted more authenticity. read more
After a long day at the Arts and Wine Festival I wanted to try something new, so I decided to try some Peruvian food. Yummm.... We had a Party of 7 and It was not very busy in there. We had outdoor seating which was very lovely. I was very, very excited when Yelp gave me a coupon in reward for 1st time checking in but was disappointed when the waiter said I couldn't use it :( FOOD: I ordered Fries (they were Dry and plain) Lomo saltado which look very delicious but was not. The meat was not well done like I had asked and the flavor was very plain. The fries that were on top of the meat were very good! It's also way overpriced. I don't mind spending money on good food, this wasn't it. Customer service: I would say it was an OK experience. We were able to sit at our table promptly. The waitress took some time to come and take our order. Cleanliness: Bathrooms were very clean and the tables as well. the interior of the restaurant looked very organized and modern. Overall: I think I would not come to this restaurant again but would instead try a more traditional Peruvian restaurant. read more
One of my favorite spots in the Bay Area. The cebiche is great! Always say yes to the home made chips for the cebiche. There's a few restaurants in this chain that I can review separately. The drinks are cold and nice. There's a lot of creativity with the starters, my personal favorite is: langostino crocantes... for the mains, we have tried almost all of them so far, and top scores for everything. The shining star is the Lomo Soltado obviously. But don't shy away from the Pescado a lo Macho! The service can be better but at least everyone is friendly and polite. The live music on weekends is something to look forward to. read more

Had dinner at Barranco last night, and we were seated at the bar. Toni was our bartender and he prepared us a pisco cocktail and a mezcal strawberry cocktail. Both cocktails were balanced and made with fresh fruit. We started with the empanadas sampler, and these were by far the best empanadas we have had in the area. The empanadas were served hot and when you took a bite, they were flaky and full of flavor. We also had the lomo saltado, and finished off with the chocolate soufflé. Everything was delicious, and the service by Toni was great... We did notice the restaurant manager did last call on food at 7:40 PM. We thought was odd since the restaurant closes until 9 PM, however, the bar remained open and Toni was able to hold our dessert for us in the back until we were done with our meals. Overall a great date night spot. read more

Recently had Barranco's Peruvian cuisine delivered for dinner. Overall, this higher-end restaurant has savory flavors with high-quality ingredients in all of their dishes. I recommend eating in rather than delivery for some of the dishes which suffered from the delay between cooking and eating (details below). On the positive side, their chicken empanadas with Peruvian sauce were outstanding with a flaky pastry filled with succulent chicken and a wonderful dipping sauce. The seafood paella was also a standout dish filled with a variety of fresh, properly cooked seafood, tender bomba rice and a flavorful sauce spiked with saffron and paprika that tied everything together. The lomo saltado included tender stir-fried beef with onions and tomatoes, but the Yukon fries were soggy by the time they arrived. I wouldn't hesitate to enjoy their food again! read more
Man, since Fresca in SF closed down (not the one in the avenues, but the other one)... I have been craving some Peruvian food and I really couldn't find any good ones in the East Bay, until right friggin now! We went crazy and ordered a bunch of stuff, but the fried plantains were excellent same with the potato chips!! MMMMM MMMMMM!!! The yucca fries were meh as well, I wasn't into them too much. Of course you gotta have the lomo saltado, but I've never had it with an egg before on top, so why didn't anyone tell me about this? That was amazingly delicious. The chicken paella was also incredible to eat. But we also had a fried seafood platter, but I didn't think it was all that. It had mussels and clams in it but it was so overcooked it was like eating nothing but oil lol. But overall, nice lil date spot too fellas, take your lady. I visited Barranco today and the service and food was exceptional. I had the ceviche mixto and seco de res. The ceviche was refreshing and the yucca chips complimented it very well. The seco de res melts in your mouth, the sides made the perfect balance to the sauce. The ambiance is very relaxing and a perfect place to grab dinner with family and friends. I will most definitely be back! read more

The location is so charming and I don't want to forget to to mention Keith the Manager , he was very helpful, funny and professional , he came to check on us about 3 times asking if we were enjoying everything. Just finished eating dinner here for Valentine's Day & my partner and I are so impressed! The ambiance of Barranco is soooo cute and chic. They have a patio with heaters, but we made reservations for inside. There were a good amount of people out there at around 9PM so I imagine those heaters work well. We weren't too hungry so we shared the scallop and shrimp cebiche and the aji de gallina. BOTH WERE SOOOOOO GOOD. The scallops and the shrimps were soooo sooo sooooo fresh. I've literally never had such fresh ceviche in my life. The portion was pretty small, 2 shrimps and like 6 small pieces of scallop, but 100% worth it. The aji de gallina was also so good. The flavor... rich and creamy. The chicken was perfectly tender, tasted like quality chicken. I can literally drink the sauce that the chicken was cooked in. We're already planning our next time back so we can try more of their menu items! I definitely want to check out their lomo saltado next time. read more
I was visiting my friend in Orinda and wanted to take her out for her birthday dinner early this year. She mentioned Barranco and I finally found myself dining in downtown Lafayette. They might be a sister restaurant or at least related to Parada and the Sanguchon food truck that I like as I noticed their cards at the hostess stand as well. We started with grilled baby octopus which were tender and flavorful and the ahi tuna cebiche chino peruano with an extra side of plantain chips. The ahi was fresh and not overpowered by too acidity so more reminiscent of a Hawaiian poke which I loved. For entrees, we had the pork adobo and the seafood stew. The pork adobo was just okay but I really enjoyed the pescado seafood stew as even the sauce was delicious that I wanted more rice to soak up every drop of it. The really disappointing dish for me was the chicken chicharron which was so dry that even the dipping sauces did not help. As a note, everything on their chicharron section does not mean it is served alongside chicharron but means whatever you order is fried. read more

Overall enjoyed my dinning experience. The waitress was very nice and helpful with food suggestions. My meal was good and empanadas sampler was divine I will return to try other menu options. Felt the prices could be a bit cheaper considering the area and no view ( ocean front, roof top, city view, etc). I was looking forward to trying the churros but due to this damn pandemic their not on the menu read more
