Had an NA beer, they only had two options (Guinness and Stella). I was there to see a friend's band. The sound system was ok. Service was fine. Later in the evening it started to look like more people were there trolling for hookups - a lot of girls in sundresses, and guys ogling them, and people playing pool. It's a saloon. You don't eat here, you drink here. And if you're lucky, you might get to listen to some cool live music. That being said, it's usually too crowded and the stage for the band is in a terrible location making it very hard to see the band from any angle except directly in front. Plus the acoustics are so bad it also makes it hard to hear the music. - Frankly, it's so loud you honestly feel like you're damaging your hearing. So if you don't like crowds as noise, this is not the place for you! However, if you're looking for a bar that isn't filled with bikers or prostitutes this is a decent place to go. Just don't be fooled. It's a dive bar through and through and it prides itself on being exactly that and nothing more. read more

So my husband suggested going here, but then he smelled fried chicken and had to find that first. He didn't think I would want to go after dinner but I was game for it. I've been in the Lafayette area a few times and walked by this bar. Always curious, but never went in. Finally I had to do it. It's a dark old dive bar with character is the best way to describe it. There are so many things I stared at the bar, as well as got the stare down by the big buck on the wall. It does get crowded before/after dinner. Things to know before you go: - This is a cash only establishment. There are signs at the bar, don't act as if you didn't know. I didn't check if there's an ATM on site, but if there isn't there are a lot of banks nearby. - Shuffle board (we played, I won the second game) - (2) pool tables - Outdoor seating area with monitors (cute set up) It was karaoke night last night and it was supposed to start at 9pm, but the entertainer was running late, so lucky for the patrons, you didn't have to hear me sing. read more

Was at Roundup last night. Had a very good time until we had to leave because one of our party kicked the bathroom door. That behavior definitely required that response however what ensued wasn't required. A conversation with "bouncers" out front quickly turned into a mob of "bouncers" trying to posture. It ended up in a scrum and a Rounup employee punching a 66 year old man. Inexcusable no matter what was said by whom. If we used violence we'd be in jail. "Bouncers" should be held accountable and not be there to punch people in the mouth without being threatened. Embarrassing establishment. read more

Haven't been there in a while, but when we lived in Lafayette we were regulars and always felt welcome. Loved the atmosphere.

Very woman friendly and protective, so kicks out the "toxic guys", which is great for us guys who are better mannered!!

Super fun karaoke night. Too crowded with almost no social distancing or masks. We tried to keep our dancing to just our area, but people kept bumping into us. Cheap drinks at least! Open late in. Sleepy town. read more

Bartenders here are a-holes. I'm no stranger to a good dive bar... spent many of hours in them across the country. But these guys are in a class of their own. We paid to play some country music on the app... bartender kept prioritizing his music to drive us out... hard metal alternative (not the 90's good stuff, but junk metal). We also bought 10 vodka sodas (all full) and briefly went to the shuffle board table.... They poured the new/full drinks out and tried to charge us for new ones. They clearly didn't want us in there (and we're locals). Not sure wtf... if I were the owners, I'd fire these Jack-monkeys. Maybe even take 'em out back for a gravel-face-lift attitude adjustment. read more

Inconsistent pricing based on the bartenders choice. Round 1 Vodka tonic (grey goose) Jameson ginger $27 Round 2 ordered another vodka tonic, I pay $13 approx. is pay and ask for another jameson and ginger. Bartender tells me $20....this is AFTER paying the $13 for the vodka tonic. I only had $19 cash on me left. I give the bartender my $19 and head to the atm to get cash. Confused how the one unpaid drink all of a sudden is now $20. . Come back and I see bartender flirting with two ladies, hands them each a shot and tell them $10 to which he cheers them and partakes in having a shot with them. ... Eventually the other bartender asks if I need help, I say just waiting to pay for a $20 jameson and ginger. Bartender #2 takes my money and I reiterate... so this jameson and ginger is $20 yet the two shots served to the two ladies cost them $10, he then talks to bartender #1, who then tells me it was $20 for the two drinks. I tell him I already paid for the vodka tonic. There is more but this is now the second time where prices round one was vastly different t from the first. Great dive bar. Has music on Friday nights. Saturdays too maybe? It's very popular with 20s & 30s crowds, but older folks frequent it as well. It gets going on the weekends and has a great patio. One of the best dive bars around. Only problem is there are not other dive bars around, so if you're in the mood to bar hop, maybe not the best option. read more

This is a great old school bar (cash only heads up) with really great prices. Cheep beer and liquor with an amazing dive bar vibe. Really quick service and an amazing Bourbon selection. I found out that this bar has been around for 80+ years which made me stay even longer than originally planned. They have two pool tables, fooseball, and outside smoking/drinking area with lots of seating available. They also had very cool live music when I was there, really awesome band! read more

We always have fun at the roundup when we stop by for a drink or karaoke or pool and shuffleboard. This clamper bar has been around since longer before I turned 21 and they're a great part of downtown Lafayette. Between service at the bar and several tables, there's plenty of indoor seating, and their new-ish patio out back is great also and has a variety of tables and styles of chairs. Staff is wonderful and it's a positive and fun crowd most nights and afternoons. read more

This is a solid dive bar. Lots of locals as it's the only "bar" in town. Good crowd, good vibes, good staff. I usually come before the night crowd and bands so take that into account. To the moron (Kevin C.) complaining about a "changed tip amount" on his card- this is a cash only bar. Always has been. Definitely one of my favorite local bars! Walkable from the home front and conveniently located in the heart of Lafayette. Fridays can get a little packed with college students from your the hill, but ‍, many of us were once in our 20s, so let me live a little! I would not recommend giving your business to this place, the Evil redhead owner of the Roundup Saloon, aptly named Karen, decided to live up to her name today, bright and early at 10am as we simply drove through the parking lot to turn around back into the street, as we are not from the area and were trying to figure out directions which took literally one singular minute. The woman decided to come up to our car and verbally harass me and my family as we were literally about to turn left onto the street and took it upon herself to place a large ugly sticker on our car and threatened to have us towed because we did not turn left onto the street fast enough for her liking, claiming we were parked in a private lot. She needs to chill because like I said it was 10 am, we hadn't even parked in an actual parking spot and it's not like we were taking spots away from customers. What an entitled, bitter woman. Do not recommend coming here unless you want a bad experience, based off the other reviews too. read more

If I could summarize this bar, it seems to act like the club for locals. Came in early-ish, and it still had the feeling of a typical bar. There are a few pool tables by the front entrance, as well as air hockey, a dance area, and DJ when we showed up. As the night progressed, a hilariously high number of younger people showed up, and it felt very much like a club. Not bad, but was definitely a strange transition. The place quickly became packed with the influx of people, so if you're coming here, I would recommend coming early. This bar is right on the main road, but I believe you can find parking nearby on local streets or some of the parking lots for supermarkets and the like. Overall, I would say that that I definitely didn't dislike the local, and not knowing what else is available locally, I wouldn't be upset in coming back. read more

Ew. 3 stars for good reason. My friend and I went for a last minute drink and had the displeasure of meeting Harrison (bar security). He was downing drinks by himself the second he was off the clock and eventually approached us. We were being nice and making casual conversation. He started being extremely rude. Ended up telling us that he was apart of the trump support protests in downtown Walnut Creek/Lafayette. When we said we weren't in support of Trump, he immediately got up and stormed off. Gross vibe. Small bathrooms. If you're under 60 or not a Trump supporter... then I would recommend literally anywhere else. read more

To all the people bitching about the service or the cash only or whatever, cut it out. This is a gem of a dive bar that normally you would NOT be able to find in a place like Lafayette. It's an old saloon, not some trendy upscale hippy bar. Bartenders at this place do not go out of their way for you unless you're a local and they know your face. That's the way old school dive bars work and you shouldn't expect anything different. You can get cheap bottled beers here and chat interesting people up all night. Will they smell like cigarettes? Probably, but they'll offer you one and you'll walk away with a great story you'll remember for awhile. Roundup is an awesome bar and my favorite in the area next to Canyon Club. Those are the only two places I go when I want to get a cold beer and have some good conversation. This place isn't fancy, you're not going to get a bartender to wait on you hand and foot, and that's the way you should like it if you're coming in. This is long-standing local dive bar that's been around since 1935, just a couple years after Prohibition was repealed in 1933. That's 85 years! It was built by Lou Borghesani, who first called it Lou's. Since he was a dedicated horseman who a year later founded Western Horseman magazine, he designed the bar like an old saloon. Lafayette used to be a little agricultural town, where people rode horses down the road, so the bar fit right in. The bar is still popular with the locals -- residents and college students visiting on holiday or attending nearby -- and it's as divey as it gets! First thing that hits you when you walk through the saloon doors is the dive bar smell, which you get used to once you've been inside for a while. Second thing, is how small it is, but packed full of people. This makes it easy to interact with folks from different walks of life and "bump" into someone you might want to talk to ; ) If you like dive bars, like a select group of people who I know who dive bar hop, then you'll like this place. Yes, the bartenders are gruff. That's because they've been there forever. They serve up drinks from behind the bar, and make no apologies about it. It's best to ask for a straight up simple drink! Everyone should know that this bar was cool until the DJ got self conscious and kicked me out because I (completely sober because I am the designated driver) bumped into her table after a patron drunkingly grabbed my girlfriend. Because I respect the man doing security, I left peacefully without any issue, but this CASH ONLY bar is fostering and supporting an unsafe culture that enables men to do whatever they please to young women and anyone planing a fun night out in Moraga should keep this in mind when looking at this bar. It is truly sad that the owners and security aren't paying attention to the bigger issue at hand and are turning a blind eye to protect the the "independent" DJ they hire for a good night. Some friends and I went out to Roundup for a night out. We had a great time at first, we played shuffleboard for a while and danced to the karaoke that the dj was playing. Our night got turned upside down when my boyfriend accidentally got bumped into the dj table. The dj, (a middle aged woman) immediately left the dj table and accused my boyfriend of purposely bumping into her equipment. He apologized and him and his brother tried to assure the woman it was an accident and that he was sorry. She pointed at him and said very loudly in his face (no it wasn't an accident!!). The woman went back to her table and immediately asked someone to bring security over. Security came over quickly and she explained to him what had happened. The security employee walked up to my boyfriend and asked him to leave. We are purely upset with how the situation was handled and the accusatory and disrespectful actions of the dj. We had been dancing close to the dj table for at least an hour and a half, the both of us were sober and hadn't had any issues earlier in the night. My boyfriend was not aggressive, assertive, confrontational, rude or disrespectful in any way to the dj or the security that told him to leave. He was respectful, calm and understanding of the situation and we left the bar after being asked to. We felt the situation could have been handled much differently. I am most upset with this bar because of the immediate accusations, rather than a willingness to hear us out, or give us a "warning". It is unfortunate that someone tripping was the end to what had previously been a fun night. While I understand that my negative review is solely intended for the DJ and her actions, and not the bar itself, outside vendors that that establishment chooses to hire as a representation of their business is a true reflection of a company's values. I fully believe this situation could have been handled in a much better manner and am disappointed in the actions of this hired entertainer. read more

home away from home Shelly, Melissa, Roxy, Charlie, and company -have to put up with a lot of drunks and am happy to be one of them. there is an exceptionally high tolerance for stoners at this place and it makes the overall vibe just the right dive bar. No place in Conta Costa County can compare. Please be a walking distance home to truly enjoy this space, but as a woman as long as y'check in with staff with a kind hello, you feel saught after and safe. To anyone giving this location one star, shame on you, and please take your business around the corner to "The Coup", hang out with the town snobs and pay $17 for a gin&tonic. We don't get you - you don't get us. This is a most welcoming place to a newbie walking in, if your vibes are in alignment. *Don't drink and drive - consider a room at the Lafayette Park Hotel or stay in your van if coming from out of town. The main crew of patrons could care less what your income is(for such an upity town). Oh, and if your kids go to Acalanes there is a little wink wink nod nod that occurs across the football field , baseball game, school performance orchestra or band concert as you will see a lot of moms and dads here letting loose on their off time. The people who work here assaulted me and two others. As soon as they announced last call, my siblings and I finished our two beers and called a Lyft. At 1:35am, they insisted we "get the fuck out" as we were still waiting for our ride, even though it was freezing out and their posted hours say they're open until 2am. When we protested, the bartender physically pulled the chairs out from under us and threw my brother out the door, then grabbed me and my sister by arms and shoulders and literally dragged us across the bar. As we got to the door, he ripped my (locked, silent) iPhone out of my hand and threw it across the parking lot. About two minutes later, as the three of us had just been standing around outside in shock and still waiting for our ride, the bartender came back out filming us in case we were "vandalizing his bar"(??), and repeatedly called us "stupid ass fucking bitches." I'm a 5'3", relatively small woman. It is COMPLETELY inappropriate for a grown man to physically handle a patron like that and try to damage their property- particularly over a relatively small issue that could have easily been resolved with nonviolent discussion. As a result of all this, I sustained a small scrape, a bruise on my left wrist from where I was grabbed, and a cracked lens on my iPhone from when he threw it across the gravel parking lot. I haven't decided yet what further action I'll be taking, but as a first step I wanted to warn people to stay the hell away from this place. read more
