For a long time I hesitated to come here because I thought they were a 21+ establishment and often I have the kids in tow. However, I saw they had a killer happy hour deal - 50% off the menu from 5-6pm!!! - so took a chance and brought the fam. They were super kid friendly (in that we didn't get any judgmental stares from having our kids take over the couches) and have so much stuff on the menu! Loved the charcuterie boards and sandwiches and the selection of wine. Will definitely be coming back! I've already told a bunch of friends about it, haha.

A ruined bottle of Syrah, wasted by lack of care

I want to support my local wine bar but what is happening here is a travesty and an affront to the God of Wine. The entire collection of wine was exposed to heat and ruined but they are still selling it to unknowing customers. Many of the wines that I inspected had corks bulging out past the foil and were discolored. The Syrah I picked and thought was safe looked good but under the foil, the cork was bad and yes the wine was rancid. I wish that was just a side story but the glass of wine I purchased was also foul. It was the most expensive Napa Cab they serve. I asked a few times how long the bottle was open and he did not know but guessed maybe a night or two before. This tells me a few things; they are not keeping wine fresh or pumping out the air or using a Coravin system for example. They are not writing the date opened even. Also in my personal opinion, the wines here are the lower tier to keep pricing down and profits high. It just makes the experience low for the customer. Lastly I did have a cheese plate and it was also terrible. The staff have no knowledge of wine. So it just ends up being a happy hour place for people to drink cheap wine. I'm sorry for the former failed business and appreciate trying to take it over but the business model is not working. It's not worthy of business woman of the year unfortunately. Lesson learned: Californians know wine!

Great Happy Hour deal 50% off from 5-6. Attentive service, I couldn't decide and the bar person allowed me a sip to try first. Had a few glasses of wine and the charcuterie board, lots of seating options and some outdoor patio seating as well. All in all a great stop if you're looking to have an easy glass of wine.

Fantastic spot for wine! My friend and I just finished dinner at Havana and stumbled on this gem. It was a gorgeous Friday night and we wanted to sit outside to enjoy a nice Pinot Noir. The menus were so creative and had a clever and witty description of each wine. Needless to say we had a few glasses. Deanna the Manager was down to earth, funny, sweet and attentive. We will be coming back for sure.

I had this place bookmarked to visit next time I was in Walnut Creek and finally got to check it out last night! Cozy, cute vibe with a wall of wine and lots to choose from including specially curated flights! Went with bubbles the first time around and let them choose the second which was a great California Cab! Service was fantastic through the night and we enjoyed a local cheese board to accompany our wine ! Had a great time and will definitely return to try more of their food options and some wine flights!

Who doesn't like a good wine bar or even a bad wine bar! Good thing this is a great wine bar. Everything you could want. A bar, high top tables, outside seating with heaters, a totally adequate selection of bites and of course the intimate romantic couch areas. We have been to this location quite a few times as well as the Concord location (different review to come). Each time we have tried different wines and snacks but seem to be settling in the Jax Cab and a grilled cheese sando. For the beer crowd there are some on tap. The service is excellent and the decor is cool. Great vibe especially with the more current upbeat music on the sound system. I don't understand why some place don't get this. Music sets the mood. Places playing downer pop i.e. John Mayer etc., are a total buzz kill. This isn't that place. My only ding is I wish they were open earlier. Having said that they are open to 11:30 pm on Friday and Saturday and 10 the other open days. Maybe 9 on Sunday. Closed Monday.

This was a nice find recommended by a friend. Located in Downtown Walnut Creek. It's small and intimate. Went in to check it out and returned several times during my stay in town. Wonderful service (both from Justice and Daniella), tasty food offerings and wonderful wine. Happy hour runs till 6pm each day and is 50% off the entire menu. This was such a gem of a find in a place with many options. Highly recommend if you are looking for something casual, laid back and friendly. They balance it all and deserve to be rated number one in the area 15 years running. I look forward to returning.

I was the first to walk in around 4ish in the afternoon (they have happy hour!) and I was offered a seat and water quickly. I decided to order the smoked salmon crudo and the gentleman (I think one of the owners?) gave me some pairing suggestions. While that was getting prepared in the kitchen, he offered me a tasting of another white wine on the house, which was so kind! In the picture below... it's most drunk haha but it was a nice amount to taste and sip on. That smoked salmon crudo is SO GOOD. The citrus adds a nice brightness, and I think there was a hint of honey used in the vinaigrette. I was pleasantly surprised and it's easily the best smoked salmon dish I've had in a while! The wine was excellent as well. I was only in for about an hour, maybe an hour and a half before I moved on, but I got to hear regulars come in and greet the owner like old friends. There's a really cool vibe here, with great music and decor, so I really wished I lived closer to visit more often! As I was leaving, I did chat with the gentleman again (complimented him/the wine bar) and he said he hoped that I would come again as he is trying to work with his partners to add more to the menu (the regulars that came in were asking after the gumbo and the brunch, which they were not serving at the time). I definitely hope to visit again and try those other menu items!

The seating options were disappointing as the benches along the wall had no cushioning and the couch we selected instead had flat, sinking cushions. The music was too loud for reasonable discussion with my friend, though the server did lower the volume at my request. I had a tasty flight of sparkling wines and the server gave a speedy, short introduction to the pours. My largest disappointment came with the arrival of the check. Despite signage outside the establishment that implied the opposite, I was informed that wine flights were *not* included in happy hour pricing. I found the messaging exceedingly unclear, and of course, there's no mention of happy hour on the menu nor did the server share the happy hour options when we were seated. It was a disheartening end to a midling experience up until that point. It's not that this place is terrible, it's just not that good and in this economy, that is a must. I will not be returning.

We started with a Cacio e Pepe Biscuit and some wine. I was curious about the Spanish wines on their menu, so I decided to try all three, opting for the 3-oz pours instead of the 6-oz. We then shared the Beet Salad and Ceviche Tostadas. The salad combined golden beets, quinoa, and sherry vinaigrette, creating a delicious combination of flavors. The tostadas came with mahi-mahi, mango salsa, and avocado, and we both loved them. Unfortunately, I somehow lost the right to eat the third one to my wife! For our main courses, we ordered the Paella and Linguine Gamberi. The paella featured saffron rice, chorizo, shrimp, other seafood, and a few ingredients whose names I can't recall. The combination was excellent, and the Linguine Gamberi was equally delicious. After all that food, we somehow convinced ourselves we still had room for their Dessert for Two. It came with key lime pie and three other small desserts, all beautifully presented on a single plate. Finishing them proved more challenging than ordering them, but we managed to taste everything and even finish a couple! Throughout our meal, our server, whose name I unfortunately can't recall, was on top of her game. She was attentive, and our wine glasses were never empty for long. We never had to wait long before placing our next order. The rest of the staff were equally efficient, clearing our table promptly after each course. We enjoyed our comfortable indoor table, but I also noticed their lovely outdoor seating area, which looked like a wonderful place to relax on a nice day. With excellent food, attentive service, and a pleasant atmosphere, we had a thoroughly enjoyable first visit. Next time, I might save a little more room for dessert!

I'm so glad we ended up across the street. It's an open area restaurant with a very large wraparound bar and rooftop deck seating overlooking downtown. Despite it being windy and chilly, we didn't get cold at all. I regret not taking photos of the restaurant itself as the ambience was so unique. We ordered 3 appetizers and no mains. Fried calamari, heirloom tomatoes with burrata and roasted brussel sprouts. Calamari: batter was a bit darker than most I've had, but consistency and crispness the same. Don't know if they used extra paprika for the color. The calamari was tender and a good contrast to the batter. The real star was their tartar sauce which was so yummy we asked for more. Tomato salad: this dish was just about perfect. What you can't see well in the photo is the burrata sitting on a bed of pesto. The pesto is arugula-based, making it much milder and not so basil-forward, which we appreciated. Brussels sprouts: It's not the best we've had but I would still order it again, if nothing more than to get those insane bacon chunks that came with the vegetables. I had the spicy maracuya and hubby had the Irish goodbye as drinks. Both wonderfully done, but I especially liked the Irish goodbye which was their take on a manhattan - instead of bourbon they used whiskey, and threw in some green chartreuse along with the vermouth. We'll have to try to recreate this at home. Service was friendly, but the server didn't check up on us. They looked understaffed. All in all, we would be sure to go back, and drag some friends with us.

They offer options of sitting at a table inside, at the bar, or at a table outside on the rooftop. Each has its own vibe. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, we opted to sit at a table inside. Pulpo Teleferic - This is def my fave pulpo dish in the Bay area. We order it every single time. The pulpo has a lovely char on the outside and the inside is as tender as it gets. While the octopus is the star of the show, the potato cream really sets this dish apart. It's so luscious and delicious that I'd order it as a separate dish if that were an option. We scooped up every last drop. Gambas Al Ajillo - The shrimp were jumbo, sweet and super fresh. They're served in a generous amount of garlicky olive oil and topped with garlic chips. Tip: if you're as eager to try bread dipped in the olive oil as we were, cleanse your palate first. Otherwise, it's hard to appreciate the subtle flavors of the garlicky shrimp infused olive oil. Wagyu Empanadas - This is the only dish we wouldn't order again. It was tasty, but for the price, I'd rather try a different dish next time. The wagyu filling was delish, but I didn't care for the oily looking fried wonton wrapper. The manchego chips were pretty, but I'd eat them separately. Otherwise, they fall off the empanada and the manchego flavor gets lost in the bite. Iberico Paella - Mixed feelings about this dish. I was super excited to try it after our waiter removed the cover with a flourish that accentuated its smokey, nutty scent. It was indeed very tasty, but the smokiness overshadowed any nutty flavor of the Iberico, which was the point. Also, the soccarrat we requested was completely missing. I still thought it was a good dish, but my husband would have preferred a paella with a balance of "surf" and "turf". We'll prob order a different paella next time. (We enjoy the Paella Negra more.) Barceloneta Sangria - I rarely drink, but after the manager poured a sample shot of this sangria into my mouth (yes, you read that right), I couldn't resist ordering a full glass. It was fruity, ice cold and a perfect contrast to the richness of the food. At the end of the meal, we were so stuffed that we were ready to take the check, but the waitress surprised us with an anniversary dessert. I couldn't hear what she said it was, but my favorite part was the nutella-like chocolate they wrote "happy anniversary" with. It was a fantastic end to a fantastic meal, and we'll definitely be back again!

After my wife headed to the ladies room, I waited a few more moments until one of the hostesses ask "have you been helped"? I replied "No". I waited for my wife to return before having us seated. We waited between 12-15 with no recognition from ANY wait team. Frustrated and ready to leave (1st time ever in 60 years of going to restaurants!) I got up and went to the hostess and shared we were going to leave a d was curious if they were short servers? We had not recieved any acknowledgement we were there after the hosteess Sophia kindly seated us. Finally, our late lunch menu was down to less than 13 minutes since the "brunch" ended at 2:30 pm. Tiffany quickly jumped our rescue! Bravo! She is a hospitality and restaurant professional with 25+ years experience and about 3 years at The Cooperage American. My wife and I ordered Arnold Palmers. She order the French Dip with truffles fries. I ordered the Huevous Rancheros which was very good Our "free appetitizer" was the delicious Tuna Tartare. Great "save" by Tiffany's exceptional service, attitude, attentiveness! Bravo! We shared with her in person how well she preformed!

Oh, man. I wanted to love this place, I really did. Last night, I ordered a French dip with a side…read moreof soup, an Arnold Palmer and crème brûlée. To be honest, I was stoked off my ass to be able to have it DoorDashed to my hospital room to eat my first significant meal in days since I've been here. The brûlée was super tasty, with fresh fruit on top and great texture. I only wish the rest of the meal had followed suit. I mean, it may have, but I didn't receive half of what I ordered :( The Arnold Palmer was a no-show, which was a huge bummer because, for whatever reason, that sounded like the best thing in the world yesterday. I'm reckon it was just an honest mistake. The staff at Cooperage are human, after all. Speaking of no-shows, go ahead and add my soup to the "Missing Dinner" reward money posters. This one really hurt because A) I originally had to pay a modest charge to upgrade my side, and B) Iam an incorrigible and shameless slut for soup, Lastly, when they packed the food, they put a pickle spear in the same container as the sandwich. Normally this is, like, my reminder that there is good in this world. However last night it was as if they dumped half of the jar of pickle juice over the entire bottom of the container, then put the sandwich on top of it. The result? Soggy, inedible sandwich roll bottoms. It was the ruin of two of my favorite things: pickles and carbs. I wouldn't be averse to possibly trying Cooperage again in the future, but paying over $50 to only recoup $16 in credits for a meal in which only the dessert came out ok was a definite disappointment.
