Came here for their set Valentine's dinner with my partner. Ambience was great. Nothing notable about the service. Food was HORRIBLE. It was a $300 prepaid dinner for two + wine (separate). Everything but the mushrooms and scallops came out COLD, and even those were just barely warm. This place is a hidden gem gated entry parking is limited so be prepared. Lots of outdoor seating with plenty of heating lamps to keep you warm during the cold season inside beautiful decor. My wife and I have been club members for less than a year, and we've loved every wine, every dinner, and every experience so far. I've gone twice, the first time, I'm glad that was my first experience. The second time, the gentleman was not very nice, thus the 4 stars. The Brussels sprouts and crab dip were good also. I had a glass of Zin on arrival and it was really good. Then my party got 2 different bottles of wine. I've returned back to Shadowbrook a couple more times over the last few years and unfortunately may be my last. Their wine is not the best, I really wish it was the same as my first visit with the delicious zin but everything else I've had from my visits I wasn't a fan of. Their food is what kept me going back. I know the chef has changed but still had high hopes. We recently had their truffle pasta for two which was incredibly overpriced for a small amount for two people, the pasta was over cooked and too soft but it was good flavor. A side of broccolini was equally overpriced but I enjoyed it charred and topped either dressing and cheese. We had such a wonderful first experience! We did both the Winemaker's Tasting and the Diablo Tasting. The Jon Rae wine stood out as a favorite--absolutely delicious, as well as the 905. This was our first time at Shadowbrook, and unfortunately our last. The service was absolutely disappointing especially considering there's already a 20% service charge. When we first arrived we were seated right away and given waters immediately by our lovely host, after being seating it took 15 minutes for our waiter to even look at us and when she did she said "Do you know what you want to drink?", this was our first interaction. It took about 20 minutes to receive our wine and when she brought it to us she never let us taste the wine before pouring it, which I have never experienced at any other winery. After leaving it took an extra 10 minutes to receive our order of French fries, luckily the water machine was right next to us so whenever we needed a refill we could just get up and get it ourselves! We almost asked them to not even bring out the bread because it had been 45 minutes after ordering before it came to our table. I think we would have been more understanding if it was a busy night but it was the complete opposite. I could have driven all the way to Napa, been served, eaten a full meal, then home with my teeth brushed in bed by 8, but instead I'm at Shadowbrook waiting for my bread. Overall the food was great, the wine was excellent but the service was absolutely horrific! We felt overlooked and unwelcome from the start. Our server barely acknowledged us and gave the impression that we weren't worth her time while serving others next to us with enthusiasm. I have seen shadowbrook winery pop up on my feed for a few months now. We have been meaning to spend some time with our friends and so we made the suggestion to meet here since it's a middle point for us all. I will say that the property is 5/5 stars! So beautiful and serene and it's just there nestled in Walnut Creek! Service is impeccable and the charcuterie was delicious! So I did bump them a star for that. However, the wine selections were not my favorite. I usually am a die hard lover of whites and slowly branching into reds but I was only able to drink the rose. Everything was just too out of my preference when it comes to flavor profile. 2 out of 3 of us just did not enjoy any of the wines. My husband did love all of his red and ended up making a purchase so I'm assuming the reds are where they specialize. Do with that what you will if you are a white wine lover. Another complaint is that they closed the gate a few minutes after we arrived for our resy so our friends who were running about 10 min late were locked out of the property. Our server Jeff was amazing and really made the experience better. The view is great, but I have to be honest--the food wasn't very good.

The winery itself is really cute and tucked off the side of an unbusy road so it is very peaceful there. The staff was sort of friendly. When we walked up we were not immediately greeted but more stared at until we spoke. The actual woman who served us was nice though. They had live music when we visited on a weekend and we could've done without it. The music was so loud we could barely carry a conversation and it was not the type of music we would listen to so it took away from the overall experience and became more of an annoyance than anything. The wines are okay, nothing that stood out or would make us come back again for. It was a hot day (90+) and we ordered the flight with the wines that should be chilled but the hostess brought the wines all at once so they all became warm almost immediately. The biggest gripe I have with this place though are the bee traps they have near the guest tables. As a business in the agricultural field (grape growing) I would figure they'd have more common sense & be more responsible than this. Bees/pollinators are an essential part of our ecosystem & absolutely necessary to our survival. And in case someone is reading this like "why is she ranting about bees" it's because no bees = no food = no life. 1 out of every 3 bites of food relies on pollinators and since this is Yelp and we are all foodies (and assuming we all have the will to live) this should concern all of us. The fact that they would place these bags to irresponsibly trap and kill these bees is beyond me. You planted flowers, bees visit flowers, so instead of getting rid of the flowers you kill the bees? The traps are ugly and gross. When you look at them all you see are hundreds of poor dead and dying creatures piled up inside. Really NOT a vibe. If a manager is reading this you should replace the flowers at the guest tables with non-flowering plants if you want to avoid bees near guests. It's really that simple. read more

We had a wonderful time. The service and staff were excellent a total vibe. Visited the winery on Saturday for some delicisous Rose and appetizers. Cinder and Ariana were incrediable, very attetnive and full of fun conversation we almost wanted to have them join our table. While we enjoyed a bottle and the King Barrata we met the owner who was very nice and gave some background on the food and the history of the winery. It felt like were in Napa but so surpising this beautiful estate was really in Walnut Creek, the live music was such an added touch. They stated that Shadowbrooke is not a low budget wine tasting place. I never referred to it as a low budget wine tasting. I simply compared it to Napa. I don't consider Caymus, merryvale and other Napa vineyards to be low budget. I simply was stating that your prices were higher than very nice Napa Vineyards, and I didn't think they were reasonable for what you offered. If you ask consumers for a review, you should not then be rate them on your response. I found that extremely unprofessional. You referred to my Party is wanting cheap wine tasting and that is extremely offensive. Don't ask for reviews if you don't want people's honest experience at your vineyard. I really love the environment. What I didn't love about it was how they do their wine tasting. It's like they bring you out each glass with very minimal education behind it. This was my first visit. I had a great first experience and love how expansive the facility is given that it is local. Most other local wineries are small or their vineyards are off-site. That said, $35 for a 4 oz pour plus a 20% service charge seems excessive. And to be fair, this wasn't even their oldest Cab. They had a 2012 and 2013 ($40 and $45 respectively). Came in to check this place out and enjoy some wine. Shadowbrook is set in the beautiful rolling hills of Walnut Creek and it's in a neat location. I made a reservation for 2 and we were warmly greeted. Staff were very kind and knowledgeable of the wines. I had their zin and their 2013 cab which were decent. I don't generally leave reviews but I left feeling ripped off. I've been wine tasting all over California and I'm not knocking their wine but we ordered their artisan cheese board which is $30.00 dollars. I should have snapped a picture but it was very sad looking. You get 4 small pieces of cheese one of which was absolutely rock hard and could not be cut with their cheese knife so I had to wrestle it apart. It comes with some almonds, some olive oil and a tiny little jam spread which could maybe be enough for 2 pieces on their bread or cracker which come with the plate. Definitely do not order this unless you want to be disappointed. Outrageously expensive. So for 4 six ounce pours of red wine and a tiny cheese plate it cost a whopping $213.91 and this includes their ridiculous 20% service charge!!!!! A 20% service charge for 2 people sipping 2 glasses of wine each costs a gratuity of $33.10! Cmon that's just absurd.
