Their gift cards are a scam. I purchased some gift cards the past few months from the official Barney's Beanery website. I just went to the Pasadena location for brunch and when I tried to pay using the gift cards that I had just recently purchased, they said they can longer pay using the gift cards I just bought. They did not offer any way to take them and figure out how to process them with the vendors they have contracted with, which would be reasonable but rather to screw their customers out of laziness. Even now they are selling the gift cards that supposedly don't expire and list Pasadena as a location so the fact they can't take them seems like a scam to me. I hope this review saves some other from the same issue and sheds some light into how the ownership and management handles customer facing issues. read more

First time to Barney's I loved the decor inside. It's clean but fun, large bar and dining area. I went during happy hour on a weekday so it was fairly quiet. Menu is fun as it's a newspaper. Bar service not sitting at the bar but in the bar area was just "okay". I was served a Cadillac margarita with no shot on the side and when I asked about it I was told it was "already inside". I watched the server check with the bartender and quickly the shot was brought to my table so no complaints there. The BBQ Juicy Lucy was perfect to share and came split with fries extra crispy per my request. Pass on the chips, salsa and guac. It's not worth it. We expected a light starter and it was super mid. One thing to note is the bathrooms... I noticed only one had a sink and soap inside. read more

BS I walk her up the stairs and the tiny closed sign is tucked away behind a small tree* she was have trouble conceding that she was in the wrong, smirked at us saying "it's both our faults" NOPE! I told her it's their FAIL for not moving the sign. She was forced to half ass apologize. My son and daughter-in-law asked us to meet at Barney's Beanery in Pasadena for my wife's (his mother) birthday. We met about 4:30pm. Upon entering the restaurant, we were impressed by the nostalgic look, music, and atmosphere. We ordered food and drinks, and talked about when my wife and I lived in Eagle Rock,and frequently Pasadena and South Pasadena nearly 45 years ago. It was great to be back in the area for a visit! (BTW, the place was dead with few customers.) About half hour later, we called the server over and ordered another round of drinks with more food. Literally, the moment the server left with our order, the music went silent, and the singing of the national anthem came on blasting loud throughout the entire restaurant. We looked over to see Monday Night Football on a big screen about to begin. There were six people (three standing with their baseball caps over their hearts singing) watching. Immediately following the national anthem, about a dozen pregame advertisements (commercials) came on with the volume still blasting loud throughout the entire restaurant. Honestly, I sat there thinking, "I'm at a popular hangout listening to the national anthem and TV commercials on a Monday with only six people watching the big screen! How dumb is that!" I called the server over and ask for a manager. She replied, "There are six of them". I asked to relay a message to them that the TV is too loud and would the please ask them to turn the volume down or off. She said, "It's Monday Night Football. It's a football thing. This place gets packed for the games." I pointed out that there were more people in the place not watching the big screen than the six watching. She said, "It's going to be packed with more football fans coming in soon. It's a football thing." I mentioned that we've been USC football season ticket holders for decades, watch Sunday Ticket on YouTube, and know very well about what a football thing is. I pointed out that there was nothing significant about tonight's game and that's why there are only six people watching the game. After that, she didn't return to our table. The food and drinks were brought to us by either a manager or bartender. Our original server passed our table a couple times checking on everybody else except our table. Finally, my son flagged her down to request the bill. When she came back with the bill, I apologized if she felt uncomfortable. I explained that we've never experienced the national anthem, let alone a management prioritizing a meaningless football game with the volume blasting while only a few customers were watching. I felt sorry that she was put in the middle of the situation. I paid the bill (which was over $100) and tipped her 20%. (I'd say that's being a good sport!) BTW, as we walked out of Barney's Beanery on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena, there was no sign or banner in the front window indicating Monday Night Football. Suggestion to management: Post a Monday Night Football promotional sign or banner. (But make sure you add in fine print, "All other customers on Monday nights are not a priority!) Lastly... None of us have ever, ever, ever seen people stand with their hats/hand over their hearts at any sports bar TV event. What I found really dumb about the whole situation was that a real football fan does not need a TV commentator to explain what's going on in the game. Wouldn't that be something if the sportscaster's voice was blasted to the fans attending a live football game in a stadium. GO FIGURE!!! read more

We first contacted the place to find out how crowded it was, and we were told that there were no queues at all. Deluxe Pizza | The toppings were nothing out of the ordinary. The crusty with slightly charred flavor dough was the best part. Mexican Breakfast (wrong order, it's supposed to be Ensalada wrap) | The sauce was too salty. Even with the sauce, the corn tortillas were still too dry. Despite everything, the rice was tasty. The ensalada wrap would probably be better lol. Menu: Sports bar foods, such as wing and burger are server. Breakfast is available all day as well. Service: The service was subpar. The first few orders took more than 30 minutes to come out and some were even delayed. Fries were served after all of us had finished eating. this place is such a vibe! great place to bring your friends to eat, drink, hangout, or even play pool. we came on a thursday evening to continue my friend's birthday festivities and it wasn't busy at all. there were quite a few people hanging around the pool tables or just dining in. they had lots of options for food, but we just came back from a dinner so we grabbed fried pickles as an appetizer while we had a chat and drinks. we let the waiter know it was our friend's birthday and as a gift from the restaurant, she was given ice cream w/ whipped cream on top! only complaint was that we were kind of forgotten by our waiter towards the end of the night and had to tag her down outside of our table since the establishment is pretty big. give this place a try! read more

Hubby and I went up to Pasadena for an amazing music festival. The entire weekend was an incredible, positive experience... all except for this place. We were next door at the music festival pre-party having so much fun dancing that we never got anything to eat that evening. We were starving when the pre-party ended. The bar we were in had stopped serving food. One of the employees at the pre-party bar let us know that Barneys serves food late, so we went. When we arrived, there was a small line to get in. I spoke to the bouncer who assured us that they served food until midnight, so we waited and the line moved quickly. When we got in the door, we found out that there was a $5 cover. I asked if we had to pay the cover just to have dinner, and they said yes. We paid, as the thought of getting something to eat was feeling very tempting at the moment. Well, after paying, I found that they didn't even seat us at a table. We had to walk through the bar and luckily found a small booth to sit in so that we could get served. When we sat down, there was some R&B playing, which isn't my thing, but I don't mind. Unfortunately, it quickly turned into gangster rap, which I do mind. Also, it was so lout that my husband and I couldn't hear each other across a tiny booth... so we ate in silence. I am used to shows, loud bars and dance floors, but this volume was ridiculous if you wanted to socialize in any way. Anway, I ordered a whiskey ginger and we shared mozerralla sticks and a small pizza. The food was pretty bad... definitely frozen food that they heat up for diners. I absolutely could not wait to leave. I was astonished that there were people waiting in line and paying cover to get in.... maybe they were like us and had no idea what to expect. I am not sure what the attraction was... they didn't even have a dance floor. I gave two stars rather than one because our server was pretty quick and attentive. I had a really disappointing experience during my recent visit. The hostess was rude from the moment we walked in. When I asked her for a straw, she threw it onto the table, and when I requested clean water cups (because the ones on the table were upside down and the table itself was sticky), she rolled her eyes instead of helping. Drink overall we're good. We just had a bad experience with our server Kaitlyn B to be specific . We were seated for a while and had to end up getting our own menus when people seated after were given menus. We were given one menu for 3 people and hardly checked on after. The Karaoke DJ downstairs Nate said that our birthday girl was limited to the number of songs she could sing, she was only allowed to sing three songs. Yet, he had what seemed like his friends up on the karaoke stage multiple times (more than three for multiple"friends"). He was truly the pure definition of what I would define as a person who is a "douche". Not cool what he did. Food and Drinks are always great. Visited today at night with a friend and it was insanely busy. All the staff were nice and attentive, especially our server/waitress Takora. She was very sweet, accommodating and just flat out amazing. I can't say enough good things about her. I had an issue where I misplaced my credit card and someone else picked it up and started using it immediately. The management (tall black gentleman and shorter young asian girl) and staff were super helpful and helped to fix the false charges for me. Will come back 100 percent! read more

Barney's Beanery has been an easy date night spot for my husband and I for years. It's a local Pasadena restaurant, bar and pool hall. 5 star for the well rounded combo of all the entertainment you could use by staying local. Basement has karaoke. 1st floor has a bigger bar, a bus and lots of seatings. They have a DJ playing in the bus last Friday night. I haven't been here for a while so not sure if it is a regular thing or just occasional. It was pretty packed and lit. 2nd floor is the pool hall. You buy a drink play pool for free. 90 mins limit when it's busy. We are old couple so we usually come early and leave early by 10:30pm so getting a pool table is never an issue for us. You can also order food from any floor. They will deliver to your pool table. One of the female bar tenders who is here forever since we started coming to this place. Get New Management!!! The manager, Aj was rude and dismissive as we arrived early to watch the Dodgers play in the World Series. We were sitting at tables next to each other to save the table for our friends who were coming. Aj passive aggressively throws down "reserved" signs on our table without any words. We asked him to explain and he yelled from a distance "give me a minute".... He later said all tables were reserved prior to people who had called in asking for reservations. Fast forward to tables filling up , we asked them as they were sitting at the table we had wanted and they said they never made a reservation, just came in off the street. Watch for upcharges. Went for Sunday brunch, ordered their Bloody Mary, listed for $8 on their menu. Server said "is Tito's ok?", so we assumed that was what it came with. We said "sure, whatever it comes with is fine". Got the bill, were charged $15.50/Bloody Mary. If this was the way for the server to upsell us, it was very shady. Love this classic coffee shop in downtown Pasadena! Great vibe with TVs playing sports at each table and 80s music playing on the background. Service was excellent with our server seating us quickly and immediately taking our drink order (my coffee never ran out!). Food was delicious as always. Nothing trendy just classic diner food. I've waited about 34 years to go to Barney's beanery. I walked in and the ambiance was nice. The bar was full so I had a seat. The waiter is getting tipped for noticing the customer that wasn't getting serviced. (I was a waiter, FYI. ) I had ordered a burger and fries and a drink off the top of my head just to be fast cuz I needed to leave in 15 minutes. I asked for no onions and no jalapenos. I guess it's my fault for not just asking for a patty cheese and a bun. It's nobodys business that I had food poisoning today and that my stomach really can't take digesting a jalapeno. So this is for the chef that was working at 9:45pm. I worked all day. Don't make my dinner wrong. If I say that I don't want something on my food assume that I'm allergic to it and don't put it on my food. Ok? That means if you put jalapenos in the guacamole and someone asks for no jalapenos then tell the waiter there's jalapenos in the guacamole. And that's why you shouldn't do that. Guacamole is just mashed up avocado and nothing else. I ate your food and now my stomach hurts. Is that what you want? You want people to eat your food and then have pain in their stomach later?
