So my girl and I decided to take her 15yo brother here for his birthday, we previously went to the one in Santa Monica and I lived around the corner by the one in West Hollywood and I have to say that this place is great! I've always enjoyed coming to Barney's, the atmosphere is nice, until today. We had called and asked with weeks of anticipation to try and make reservations for the World Cup games and they said that they we not taking any reservations at all. We get there early in the morning and all of the restaurant was reserved, we get seated and it took them an hour to bring soda and coffee, not to mention that all the food that we order was either under cooked or they brought the wrong food, we asked multiple times that there was no audio and they never fixed it, the host was rude, we asked about the volume and that there was no menus on the table and and her response was that it was not her problem and walked off. I understand that the restaurant was busy but that's no way to respond to customers. Over all a horrible experience with the customer service and food quality. read more

This place is all about atmosphere. If you like or love sports, this is a great place for you to hang out especially for the major games of any kind. What makes the atmosphere so great is the multitude of television screens (one at each table in fact) while there is also a seating area that looks like bleachers and on the other side of that two areas that could very well be someones living room with couches and coffee tables. The menu is also cool but also HUGE. It is definitely one of the biggest menus I have seen as it ranges from full breakfast to burgers to soup to sandwich's to Mexican fare to fried chicken to almost everything you can imagine. The layout of the menu you are given is a newspaper format and the only thing missing are the comics and probably could put in a fake auto sale. The service and front of house reception are great. Everyone is very friendly and happy to serve. The two downfalls of this place are the food quality and the food portions. I almost see this place as a "pub" like style or bar-style and all the places I go, the portions are quiet hefty! This one, not so much but the prices are also very reasonable. The food quality itself is fine but not great and I really haven't found anything that I LOVE there yet. I tend to go for lunch as I hear dinner time is pretty insane which also makes a lot of sense since most sporting games are at night and as everyone is getting off from work. The happy hour prices are great $4 wells and $3 draft beers but the service is crap. I never got a waitress and was told if I wanted happy hour I had to be tapped out by 715pm. Like basically kicking me out before I even ordered a drink! Then when I had to get up myself to order drinks the bartender was very rude in telling me the drafts they had for happy hour. Then when I chose one it so happened they ran out... You can imagine my frustration at this point then I decided to sit outside and she followed me to tell me the same thing. My girlfriend invited me for happy hour from the hours of 4pm to 7pm but I came at 8pm knowing that happy hour was no big deal but when the waitress gave her the bill it wasn't broken down to the price of happy hour it was just charged in all together which confused her the morning after. Barneys should be more specific in details after writing the bill. The food (chicken taquitos)is excellent but the bill system is not good and they need to work on that. My 2 cents. read more

Moments later my friend was able to enter with her Starbucks cup in hand with ease. Sure if you come late on a saturday night there might be some burbank douchbags, but overall its a fun place. TV's everywhere to watch the games and plenty of beer on tap. Went in last night with some friends to watch the MNF game. It was busy but we were seated right away. We had two orders of wings (which we have always loved here), an order of nachos which was just meh, and my GF had the french onion soup which she seemed to enjoy. We also ordered a couple of pitchers of beer. Unfortunately my first two choices for beer had run out (kona longboard and Dos Equis). We made due with whatever else was on tap and had a fun night. Came here this past weekend to watch the Eagles game. It was CROWDED as all hell. We couldn't get a place to sit and the wait for an 1hr and 45 minutes to get a table. Needless to say, the place is pretty popular. It was a Saturday night so if you like crowded sports bars this is the place to be. If you are watching football and the Cowboys are playing, this place will be filled to the brim with cowboys fans. We ended up standing by the bar and the bartenders were amazingly attentive despite the mass crowd. They have a decent selection of domestic and imported beers on tap so if that is your thing, go check it out! I do not belong in sports bars, and so Barney's was a little odd for me. My favorite part was that there were actually cushy bleachers in front of a giant TV, I guess you can reserve seats when there's a big game. Personally, there's nowhere I'd rather NOT be than a sports bar for a big game, but the in-restaurant bleachers are still pretty great. Our server was a thin girl in short cutoffs, who slid into the booth with us to flirt with the guys (I'd guess it helps with tips) and take our order. I found it kinda weird. The menu is a fun newspaper-style thing with a lot of options, and despite the type of establishment it is, I found myself with an ok variety of vegetarian selections. I ended up with the veg chili (chock full of veggies and beans, and fortunately, no zucchini) in a sourdough bread bowl. It was quite filling and I was satisfied. The music was mostly awful and a very strange mix. Metallica and David Bowie and then some new rock bands that were unlistenable. I do agree that at one point there was a bad smell floating around. It's a cool envinronment. Barney's Beanery is a great place to come to for sports events. They have personal TVs for each table so you will always get a good view of a game thats on. They have a really cool stadium seating section with a huge screen and the other side of that there is a section with couches and seats. They have a big list of different foods and a huge selection of beer. It gets crazy packed during big games so I would recommend coming very early if you want to sit in the stadium seating. They also have karaoke, trivia, and movie night which is pretty cool. Overall, a good sports vibe and just a great place to hang out with people. read more

I ate there today and the BLT left a little to be desired (the bacon tasted odd and super dry and the tap drinking water had an odd flavor), but the chicken noodle soup and strawberries were great. Our server Adam P was awesome...super friendly, quick and attentive to our table even though it seemed kinda busy in there. I don't get it. I really don't. It's the first sports bar that cards you before you even sit down (a hassle, considering that similar and local competitors like Granville, BJ's, and Yard House simply don't bother), which strikes me as being a little less than friendly. A tip: if you aren't legally obligated to card me, don't. You're a bar and grill. Not a bar. The food itself is greasy American-style fare. The place has a huge menu. Here again, this shows me that this isn't to my benefit. Rather than focus on making a few menu items spectacular, there's just a lot of mediocre food. Was underwhelmed by both the Burger and the Philly Cheesesteak, and I don't think the third time will be a charm. As for the beer list, forgive me for being a tad underwhelmed when most of them are bottled. At least with draft beer I feel like I'm buying a slightly better pint than what I can get off the shelf at Von's. Considering that Barney's is competing with locals BJ's and Gordon Biersch, both of whom make their own beer, and Yard House, which stocks more than 100 different kinds on draft no less, it's hard for me to get excited about this place. read more

I just don't understand the appeal of Barney's. Beer: A good selection. It's not great, but it's good. The best in the immediate area. Doesn't come close to comparing to Tony's Darts Away which is about a mile away. Atmosphere: It's a cool looking place on the inside. It's loud and gets pretty pack, for some reason. Food: Kinda terrible. A deceiving menu which seems huge but really isn't... They'll have a burger, and then list 20 variations of that burger as if it's 20 more menu options. That annoys me. I'm typically disappointed in their food. Looks good, sounds good, tastes... well, sub-par. I have loved this bar every single time I've ever come here, be it for a late-night delirium tremens, or a mid-day delirium tremens!!! (Belgian golden ale voted BEST beer in the world 13 times! Thinking of just going for food, I'd avoid this place. The menu is way too extensive to make all that food taste good. We had a large party with lots of food, especially the appetizers and nothing was good, barely OK and we weren't paying for it. The service was on top of it and the food came out hot but no flavors, just very disappointing. I remember in the 80's going to the Original Barney's by my High School and even then the food was very average. I'm happy for Barney's Beanery branching out in this economy but the food really is the last reason to go there. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to watch the Daytona 500 this last Sunday and we ended up at Barney's Beanery. We were really hoping that it might be a place to be our go-to sports bar, but we had a mediocre time. The first problem, is they didn't have the volume up on the TV's showing the race. The restaurant was completely dead and most of the other patrons were watching the race. I know that in this town, NASCAR, isn't the most popular of sporting events and they had the volume up on the TV's showing other sports. The problem was, nobody was watching the other events. Why wouldn't they turn up the sound and use the bigger televisions to display was the current patrons were interested in watching? This drove us nuts. Our server was nice and attentive. He even brought us a little sound box to our table so that we could listen to the race, but it didn't work. We ordered a pitcher of beer and sliders (very good) and watched the race in silence. The only sound was a group of kids playing a very loud, annoying basketball game machine close to our table. The place is comfortable and the servers nice, but I don't think this will be our spot for sports viewing in the future. read more

I have been here twice in the last month. the first time was great. the second time SUCKED didnt get to even sit down because the manager wouldnt give me a table because I was alone. the hostess was mean and told me it would be a 2 or 3 hour wait because of the game. as I watched tables get up after eating and leave. another table got up and i asked her if i could sit there. she said no because i was alone. So I bitched a little and she got the manager. I asked him if i could sit at a table alone and he yelled at me NO!! Good place to eat, drink, and hangout with friends! They have lots of tvs, which is usually on espn or any sport that is airing. They even have karaokes for people to sing, and there's nothing better than hearing drunk people sing amazing songs. I don't know if all servers here are nice, but you should definitely look for Brad! He was our server a couple of nights ago and he was pretty cool, he even gave me and my friends a free shot each! A group of friends and I were looking for a good trivia night and after hearing about Barneys decided to venture out and give it a try. Two of us arrived a little early and decided to grab a drink at the bar. Usually at bars I don't expect stellar service, but the bar tending staff at Barneys is exceptional. When we sat down we were immediately greeted with a genuine friendly attitude and one gave us awesome recommendations for new drinks. Even better was when one of my friends accidentally spilled her drink we had both bar tenders and a bus boy immediately clean up the mess and give her a new one. The best part is they did it with a smile!!! Once trivia started the hostess went out of her way to make sure we had a seat where we could be really involved with the game. The selection on the menu is vast. The worst part was trying to decided what to eat. Overall we had a great time and even won at trivia. Great times and Great services. Barneys is the type of place where you feel the staff would remember your name. A true neighborhood bar that I thought was extinct here in LA. Been here twice and really enjoyed the food both times. I love that they have such a big and tasty-sounding menu that it always takes a really long time to decide what you want. I've gotten burgers both times and they've been excellent. I the variety of seating they have from the booths inside, to booths outside, to tables for large groups and couches, even a stadium seating area for watching a game. It's also great that every table has its own TV so no one gets stuck without a view. I'll agree with other reviewers that the service seems to be a bit spotty, but I say "seems" because even though we only saw the server who took our order once, lots of other people came to check on us, refill drinks, etc. So I think that's just kind of how they operate. Tip: if you're going specifically to see one game in particular, get there half an hour before it starts. Tables don't turn over quickly once a popular game (Lakers, Dodgers, any kind of playoff game) starts so you might be waiting a long time for a table if you show up at halftime. read more

My first time visiting Barney's was for a Taco Tuesday special and I was very excited for not only cheap food, but cheap tacos! However, when my tacos arrived... womp womp. Zero taco seasoning whatsoever, and literally just meat and lettuce thrown onto the tortilla. I know they're cheap tacos, but c'mon! Cheese? Salsa? Flavor? Also, I paid my $8-and-change bill with a $10 and never received any change, though my friends all got their credit cards back. Despite that experience, I keep going back because it's very close to where I work, and most of my friends live, it's easy to get to and there's free parking. I haven't made many purchases since, rather I eat first and then go just for the camaraderie. My favorite reason to go to Barney's now, though, is the Wednesday night trivia hosted by King Trivia. It's fun and challenging and the prizes (1st - $100gc / 2nd - $50gc / 3rd - $25gc) are fantastic. Though due to the noise in the bar, it's sometimes hard to hear the questions. The only reason we ended up there was cuz elephant bar was closed (which is totally fine) Walked in, got ID'd which makes everyone in the group feel good =] You had to walk around and find your own seat!!! challenging...... walked all over and the place was packed... there were couches in middle of the place with bean bag chairs with humungous TV's... we assumed that a place that cool to seat had to be with reservations, but I asked the waiter anyways if we could sit there... Sure enough WE COULD!! haha score! Ordered food which came in a very timely manner!!! I got the BBQ Chicken sandwich! Nothing special but the fries that came with it was fantastic!!!!! I hate sports bars, but we used to like coming here for breakfast. They had a fairly expansive breakfast menu, and as long as there wasn't a big game going on, it was a good way to start the morning. Once we came during hockey playoffs and it sucked, because the jocks watching the big screen TV 30 feet away kept screaming every time there was a home-run or whatever. Did I mention I hate sports bars? So to be clear, this review isn't about the merits of this place as a bar. I'm sure it's fun at night when you're drunk off your ass watching a game or playing trivia or whatever. This is a review of Barney's as a place to get breakfast. But the last three times I've gone here (over about a 1.5 year period) there has been this *horrendous* smell. A year ago, I was told the smell was caused by construction next door. I believe the smell is related to the LA River ducts that run along the 5 fwy. For years, I've noticed at various businesses/locations that are close to that channel - the old Marie Callendars, the Burbank exit ramp, Baja Fresh, etc. So, whatever it is, it smells like a little raw sewage mixed with mildew. It's gross. So we went back this morning, hoping that after a year the construction had stopped and the smell had gone away, but it was still there. Just as bad. There was still some unfinished construction next door too. There was no table where we could escape it. We tried, but alas, no. In addition, the restaurant seems less crowded, and the menu has clearly shrunk (about 1/3 to 1/2 less breakfast items). I can only assume the two changes are related - profit margins are sinking. By shrinking the menu they can improve the quality of the food they put out, and reduce their overhead. The food itself was good, and once it came, it helped to mask the smell. I think the quality of the breakfast plate I ordered was actually a little *better* than it used to be. Their California omelet with rye toast is quite lovely, and that is why this is not a one star review. I feel for the owners, I imagine the smell is somewhat out of their control, and they have the misfortune of having chosen a shitty location for a restaurant, perhaps unaware of what was in store when the location was first picked out. They work hard to make the things that *are* under their control pretty good. But my empathy isn't enough to bring me back again. read more
