I was in town so I stopped to have breakfast and a chai. The cinnamon roll was the best I have ever tasted! Top Notch! The chai was good. The breakfast sandwich was good and came with exactly what I asked for in it. The best part of the experience was the service. This young woman helped me and I heard her for roughly 45 minutes while I ate. She had a great attitude, a smile on her face the entire time, and handled the fact that they were short one person like a champ. Even though they were slammed, she never changed her smile, tone, or attitude. I was very impressed. The space was eclectic with some very fun decor. The outdoor patio was unusable as people were smoking, which was disappointing. The reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars was due to the man making the food/drinks. I stood at the counter and watched him make drinks for at least 10 customers after me before even starting my breakfast sandwich. I stopped here a couple of times to get my coffee fix while staying in Lyons. I love the community feel and fun dog inspired decor. Barking Dog Cafe is located in the heart of Lyon's downtown area. It is a great place for a pastry, breakfast burrito or sandwich. They have all of your basic espresso drinks with a number of flavors for add-ins. When you are visiting a town for the first time, it is nice to find a place to hang out at that makes you feel welcome. I enjoyed my Pineapple Coconut Muffin and Latte and appreciated the great hospitality that Barking Dog Cafe gave me. read more

Stopped by this little "jewel" to grab some coffee on our way to the Rocky Mountain National Park. We were warmly greeted and just loved the laid-back/down-home vibes of the place. The cashier was super pleasant and very patient in explaining the various types of pastries offered. I decided on the morning glory muffin top (delish) and my husband had a bear claw pastry. The service from the gate was IMPRESSIVE and Inviting!! it was from a young lady who was taking orders slinging drinks and doing it all with a smile while communicating!! I've been stopping at this cute little cafe for the past few years. Love supporting the businesses in Lyons. There is parallel parking out front (on both sides of the street). It can be full but don't give up, you may find another spot around the corner. The cafe itself has a handful of tables including some retro Formica ones (my fave!). There are fresh made pastries, egg scrambled and loads of drink choices including local Sherpa chai. On this visit I went for the vegan burrito (made in house) and my friend went for a scramble which had tomatoes, spinach and feta cheese. If you drive through often there are punch cards which they store alphabetically in a little box on the counter. If you don't mind a day old pastry score one or two for just a dollar. The service is not as friendly as at other local businesses but I suspect I'll be back on my next ride through. read more

They have 1 gluten free option, which is toast despite listing gf bagels on their menu. So deceiving. They made the menu appear to be 85% gluten free. But in reality none of what's listed there as gf is actually available. Disappointing & unacceptable considering that an entire bag of gf bagels costs $8 at the grocery store next door. Yet they claim they're too expensive to keep in stock. THEN REMOVE GF OPTIONS FROM THE MENU. Shouldn't be that difficult, especially in Boulder county. read more

Mommy at the front was so super helpful and friendly which was warm and calming as my silky smooth decaf 2% latte. The place is perfect for both locals and visitors like me. I had to try the red rocks scrambler and they mentioned the free wifi and Vegan options. Within 5 minutes I had my super healthy scramble with spinach,, feta cheese, and fresh tomatoes that have a flavor filling crunch. My only regret was not having enough room to try everything else the desert and pastry options are tempting and almost a curse for those like me who are on a very strict diet LOL. First off, I'm not from Colorado but rather in town visiting my kid. I was walking the town with my dog, and saw this little gem. I thought, how awesome!! A cafe for people and people with their dogs! As soon as I opened the door I felt the cold blast of disapproval from the staff and stuffy, older crowd of customers. Ok, so kill me. I stopped by a cafe that I thought would allow a cup and a snack WITH your dog. Not the case. So I'm! Not much of a big deal. Except that I was then admonishing after ordering a coffee. Told to go immediately outside with the dog. Here's the kicker: OTHER cafes in town allow dogs. I mean, ok to each their own, and it is perhaps a code violation. Since this is the case, and the name of this darn place is barking dog, they should at least have a giant door sign that says NO DOGS allowed. I bet the owner chimes in here to tell me that there is a sign like this, but I couldn't find one by briefly searching. It should be HUGE in BOLD letters. N O D O G S!!! Since I missed it this was a failure on their part. Terrible awful service, from a person unmoved by my faux pas. Which should have never been the case. And my coffee was ok, and would have gotten more stars except for the smug and indifferent service, and stuffy atmosphere of this "barking dog" cafe, so oddly named. read more

We love the Barking Dog and try to stop anytime we're in Lyons! There's tons of options here, so no matter what your palate or food restrictions dictate, there is something delicious and fresh waiting for you. We grabbed a couple breads and coffees for the road, the pumpkin chocolate chip bread was especially a hit and was promptly gobbled up in probably five seconds flat! My 12 year old now asks for special visits to Barking Dog JUST for this pumpkin bread (so please don't ever stop making it!) ;) If you're in the area, put this place on your radar. Even if it's just for a cup of Joe, you'll be happy you stopped. read more

Very cool ambiance. Very relaxed and "come as you are." The inside is full of random older tables and chairs and reminded me of furniture my grandma had. Employees were friendly and attentive. I got the Steamboat sandwich. They ran out of their usually bread for sandwiches so I chose the everything bagel. It was a great choice! Went really well with the sandwich. The sandwich was really flavorful and had lots of turkey on it. I'd come back here again for the relaxed atmosphere. If I could give them a zero star I would. Let's see where to begin...placed an order over the phone for a Hall Ranch, and some coffee. Told us 10/15 minutes to arrive. Arrived 17 minutes later to then wait for over 25 minutes in line with with two people in front of us? Then without COMMMuNiCATIng that you now have to pour your own coffee, that you have no way of marking the cups to distinguish which is who's(hey maybe have markers/pens lying around), and to add insult with injury their coffee cups sleeves are hidden, so my significant other has a burn on her hand, and we are now 30 minutes late to a class she paid for (the reason we ordered ahead). On a side note, with the 'me-too' movement, which I fully endorse, don't go there as single male. I told staff multiple times I'm married, I've been in love for 14 years, & have a child with my S.O., because having a person 20 years younger than myself hitting on me, made me feel weird, to the point that I haven't been here in months because of the awkward conversations. Definitely local flavor here. Great vibe and food is prepared methodically, almost like there is love in every plate. It takes a long time though. I'll admit I was very hungover and I ordered an egg white omelette with turkey and an iced mint almond milk latte but I didn't enjoy the omelette that much - not because it wasn't good but because I had no appetite and I was force feeding myself. I think if I wasn't hungover, it would've been good! Now the latte, on the other hand, was delicious and refreshing! I didn't want it to end. Great little cafe that was the only place open the day after thanksgiving. They have the Rowdy Mermaid kombucha which is amazing I ordered a Fresh Chili Cheddar Tomato quiche which is amazing. It was made in house, they had a lot of other great flavors which made it really hard to choose. Also ordered a egg, avocado, spinach and cheddar breakfast sandwich on a croissant.
