However, once you find this place, you'll find the outside is nice and quaint, like going to Grandma's house for breakfast. The interior is small but nice, and decorated all over with little nicknacks. Everything is clean, including the bathroom. The people inside are all small town nice chatty folk, customers and staff alike. Don't let the older waitress scare ya, she looks mean, but she's actually very nice. The food: It doesn't seem like a lot at first, but what you get is actually plenty of food for the price. We filled up with just a basic plate of omelet and pancakes and some coffee. I will say that the pancakes are pretty dense, they could definitely use some fluffing, but everything has good flavor, including the coffee! A friend took me there for breakfast today. He's been eating there for nearly 40 years. I had the 4 egg Mexican omelet with homemade salsa and wheat toast. Home fries. I'm so sorry I forgot to photograph the food. It was chilly outside and we devoured the food as soon as it arrived. It was plentiful and well presented. I asked for the potatoes crispy and they were perfect. The Omelet was large and perfectly cooked. The fresh salsa was spicy, with a hint of habanero. It was a perfect breakfast. I searched for a breakfast place that was local good and off the beaten path, on our drive from Estes Park to Boulder that would please my wife and decided to come here. An excellent decision I made. I had the huevos rancheros and my beautiful bride had the 2 egg Greek omelet. Both dishes were excellent and the ambiance was spectacular. Definitely will make a point to make this a destination stop the next time we travel to Colorado. I've been eating at the Meadow Mountain Cafe for over two decades. It's known to be a little slower but time slows down in the mountains and the food was always worth it. Fast forward to this weekend. They make it clear that they are short staffed. One waitress, one cook and one dishwasher. I have no problem with that. What I have a problem with is the attitude I got from the waitress after waiting 90 minutes and questioning her about our food. She was blatantly rude and confrontational. She had the cook deliver our food, who said, "Sorry, I didn't know you were in a rush". A rush? If I were in a rush I wouldn't have sat down in the first place but was I prepared to wait almost two hours? No. After we got our food our waitress immediately came out and said, "I wouldn't want you to wait for this", as she slammed our check down on the table. I will never go here again. But I will say this, the older gentleman who brings drinks was a total delight. Hopefully his attitude will rub off on the waitress. read more

We stopped on our way back from RMNP (not far off the route back to Denver) and we will definitely be coming again. The 1am burger was especially good. What a great find right outside of Estes Park, in Allenspark! First, this pretty and quaint little Cafe is so welcoming ! We arrived @ 8:am and we're immediately greeted by our friendly waiter. I ordered two buttermilk pancakes that were as by as my plate and, were the best I've ever eaten....with a side of bacon and potatoes with onion & bell pepper...so dang good! My husband & our daughter's boyfriend ordered two fried eggs, bacon, home fries & Homemade Wheat Toast and Homemade Strawberry Preserves, with some of the best coffee they'd had in a long time...they think that they detected a hint of cinnamon...? Our daughter ordered the Crystal Springs Spinach Omelette with a side of sauteed mushrooms and potatoes with bell pepper & onions and a glass of freshly squeezed Orange Juice...perfect! It is the perfect little breakfast spot, situated just below the beautiful Rockies! Meadow Mountain Cafe has been in the Allenspark since the 1920's, and the locals say, it hasn't changed a bit. Meadow Mountain Cafe is a cozy little cabin with a toasty little potbellied stove inside. The cafe has been owned and operated by the St.John family for three generations. This is a great spot!! A very small cafe that has those good feels! They have about 5 tables inside and 2 communal tables outside. The staff here are very friendly and always willing to help out. I would recommend getting here early as it fills up and you might find yourself waiting a while. The food is great and feels like you're at your grans house-good home cooked food. The cinnamon rolls are awesome-they arrive hot and delicious. They have loads of staple choices on the menu and a personal favourite is the huevos rancheros. The coffee has cinnamon in it and just adds that extra bit of flavour. I've only had breakfast here, many times and it's good! They have a lunch menu too that they start serving from 11:00 onwards. This is such a great little hidden gem of a café! My mom and I are staying in town, on vacation from Chicago, and the gentleman we're renting from had it listed as one of his favorite places. If it wasn't for him, we never would've found it! Our first trip here, I had the banana pancakes with chocolate chips. SO good! And the pancakes were huge! They were the size of the plate! The coffee was equally amazing. It had a hint of cinnamon...still not sure if that was the coffee itself, or the creamer, but it's delicious. We enjoyed this little place so much, that we came back the next morning for the fantastic cinnamon rolls. This is such a great little family run place. Perfect getaway breakfast or lunch outside Rocky Mountain. The drive to Allenspark is lovely, but in the summer come early or prepare to wait. Add a thousand little qualifying words in here, and if they mean something positive, they'll fit. Walked in and were greeted by a small dining room. I mean small. 4 4-tops, a 2-top, and 3 seats at what passes for a counter. I'm 6'3", no way I would have fit at the bar. But we grabbed a spot at the 4-topper in the corner, and settled in. Waitress (and only employee we saw) was great. She was smiling, friendly, warm, welcoming, and prompt with everything. Had coffee on the freezing cold, windy day. They add a dash of cinnamon, which I initially wasn't sure about, but dang, I liked it. Quite a bit. I ended up with biscuits & gravy, as I am a huge sucker for them. The girlfriend ended up with Denver Hash, which I will get to in a second. But my biscuits and gravy were crazy good. I think the gravy could make a case for the best I have ever had. It was spicy, thick, and full of big ol' pieces of spicy sausage. Piled high on a couple of warm, flaky biscuits, and, when I tore the yolk from the eggs I had added on top, was delicious enough to make me end up with a stomach ache and I destroyed them like a conquering warlord, intent on the destruction of biscuits and gravy. Weird analogy, whatever, they were damn good. Girlfriend's Denver Hash was chock-full of...ACTUAL HASHED MEAT. Wutttttt. Usually places claim they have a hash, but it ends up being anything but. This restaurant was a diamond in the rough. My wife and I traveled down from Estes Park to Allenspark on April 20. We knew nothing about this restaurant and just happened upon it. It's nestled on the side of a hill and it's real quaint. We were just looking for a restaurant that was open and boy were we surprised to find this place. We were taken aback by the quaintness of the inside of the restaurant. We had coffee and cheeseburgers the coffee had a slight cinnamon taste to it which was wonderful and the whole atmosphere was very warm and relaxing. I specially like the sign on the front door that read "This is not fast food". We were able to slow down and enjoy ourselves and have the best cheeseburgers around. This place is wonderful. We went here for lunch. The restaurant is off the highway and easy to miss, but worth finding. One of our party went inside to pay (cash only I believe), but the rest of us sat on the porch and never even went inside. An older gentleman on a bike rode up and we struck up a nice conversation with him before and during lunch. The tables and picnic tables on the porch encourage you to get to know your neighbor. The food? One side of the menu was breakfast (served all day), and the other side was lunch. Two of us had salmon burgers, which were delicious, while the other two had BLT's on that homemade bread everyone keeps writing about. Our party raved about it too. The cinnamon coffee was a big hit as well. If you're going for lunch, get there early, and it filled up pretty well by noon. read more

Stopped here while on vacation in Estes Park. The service was great. The coffee was absolutely delicious, so glad I checked Yelp before heading out to breakfast. I got the banana pancakes(ordered 2), which are massive and I pretty much ate the equivalent of one. This place is a destination! Take your sweetheart, take your friends and family and drive on up here for a great meal - homemade everything, jam, biscuits, beans. Bonus is the drive - a gorgeous trip from any angle. I highly recommend this route from Boulder: take Lee Hill drive til it ends at Left Hand Canyon. Take a left. Go up through Ward. Right on Hwy 72. This place is a great find. Spending my summer working in Estes Park, and sometimes it's nice to get away from the town. I heard about this little spot from a friend, and I decided to check it out. The food is great! I ordered one of the omelets. The ingredients were fresh, and the reviews were right: the toast with homemade bread was amazing! I also love that they give the option of toast & potatoes or pancakes as a side with your omelette! The atmosphere of this place is very home-y You'll probably be sharing a table with some strangers, but there's no better way to enjoy breakfast than with new friends. Our friend had a cheeseburger, which I can't speak for. Our other friend and I had the Reuben sandwich. Delicious! This is a big sandwich.
