For many years I have so enjoyed Mountain Home Cafe. It's my favorite breakfast place in Estes. My favorite order is Arizona Hash Browns which has hash browns, roasted poblano peppers, grilled onions, monterrey jack cheese, two eggs, salsa or green chili. This was a very homey place to get breakfast after Valentine's Day! The French banana pancakes were the best I've ever had, and they had a nice lavender coffee as well. They are extremely busy and popular - right down the parking lot is Top Notch but as we were waiting I heard everyone saying that Mountain home was more home cooked. I ordered a BLT with fries. It was perfectly toasted on wheat bread, with tomato. My friend ordered an avocado and turkey BLT, with a side of fries. The size of the sandwiches were generous. The fries came out piping hot, and our waiter brought more, explaining we didn't get full portions! Although this place was very busy, we only waited a few minutes for a table. The restaurant seemed very understaffed and disorganized during our visit. We never received refill on our waters, our order was incorrect, and I was served regular toast instead of the gluten-free toast I ordered. Had to get up and go get our own things snd ask twice for lemons. The staff was friendly, but the overall experience was frustrating due to the lack of organization and multiple mistakes. WOW! Things to know! Customer service is horrible. Came at lunch time, while the have outside seating, they wouldn't allow individuals to sit outside. It is one of the best times of the year to be outside and they won't let people sit outside in that area. Don't expect to go in and order things from the actual menu and be able to get it. As an example - while English muffins are on the menu with other items on the menu; you can't order that or ask for it if it isn't listed as an item with what you are ordering. Why you ask? According to my server, English muffins are not something servers have access to. Only the kitchen has access to those. The kitchen and servers have different access to items. Servers make the toast, not the kitchen. REALLY!?!? I also asked if I could have regular fries instead of hash browns, even if I had to pay more. Answer: NO! You can order a side of fries and then just not eat the hash brown. Horrible experience, and as a tourist town, one would expect more. Don't make this place one of your stops, you will be sorry! read more

We grabbed breakfast here on a Sunday morning. We got there around 9, just before the rush. We didn't have a wait, but there was one on our way out. The staff were hustling to keep up and were so kind, but you could tell they were overwhelmed. Our waitress forgot an item and we had to find someone to refill our coffee. I ordered the Arizona hashbrowns as something you don't see on most menus. And we also split the swedish banana pancake. The hashbrown plate was good traditional fare. The pancake was pretty good, but I didn't care for the whole vertical sliced not-so-ripe banana on the inside. read more

Went for breakfast but they serve breakfast and lunch all day. Many gluten free options. Had a GF tuna sandwich and they toasted the bread perfectly. Side of potato salad home made like the tuna salad and delicious. Not mushy like some make it. Had a cup of New England clam chowder that was some of the best I have had outside of Boston tons of clams, potatoes and celery with perfect spices! We stopped in for our day trip to Estes for lunch, and they seemed to be training a few people but the attitude of what seemed to be the owner/manger is what confirmed the 2 stars. The food was okay. The burger was cooked well and the 'Benedict' was good. Onion rings were the star of the show I will say. The patty melt missed the mark on an actual patty melt though. The typical dressing was no where and the onions were lacking. The service was inconsistent. They were pretty attentive to start with but we had multiple problems with the order and it took us flagging them down after 5 minutes to ask. This isn't a big restaurant. At the counter when checking out we mentioned a sandwich did not receive the $1+ additional charge of bacon and the owner criticized us as well as the staff in front of us. They also couldn't separate orders which isn't a huge deal but something to consider. I wouldn't say don't try it but there also might be some better options. read more

We sat for 10 minutes without water while waiting to place orders. She was very nice and apologized for the delay. What a cute little spot tucked away in the shopping center. It's not very big but if you get there early enough you won't have to wait. We got there at 8 and it was perfect time. By 9am the place was packed and with a wait. Our server was very nice and the food came out so freaking quick!! For breakfast I got the Denver omelet and instead of regular eggs I got egg whites. Inside was ham, green peppers, cheese, onions and mushrooms. It was gooey w cheese which is what I love! It also came w hash browns and I got a side of bacon. Stopped in for some breakfast before heading up to RMNP. I'm not a huge breakfast person so I ordered the turkey focaccia. Wow! It was incredibly tasty (and they house-make the focaccia). My mother ordered the classic two egg breakfast which she said was very good. If you're lucky enough, you'll get seated in Mayra's section ;) She was so helpful and very sweet. Our table ordered: - Monte Cristo - This is merely a turkey, ham and cheese sandwich on grilled Texas toast and NOT battered & deep fried or served with jam). This is not what is expected when ordering a Monte Cristo. - San Francisco Burger - Ordered medium and served well-done. No flavor and served on maybe a sweet sour dough (couldn't tell) sandwich bread. Fries were ok. - French Dip - Very Dry and the au jus resembled beef broth as opposed to consume. Just blah in flavor as well. - Southwestern Quesadilla - This was delicious. My only complaint is the server asked if he wanted sour cream but didn't indicate it was extra. I let the lady at the front know of our disappointment, especially in the Monte Cristo. She just shrugged and said they don't fry it there. My thoughts? Then don't call it a Monte Cristo. Service was okay but slow to receive the food. Very cramped looking kitchen which did make me worry about health standards. They were scraping dishes in the area where you pay.
