Just an absolute disaster after a long hike in the cold of the Rockies, we figure we'll get some hot chocolate and we go to the Trailhead Restaurant in Falls River Visitor and proceed to purchase 5 "hot chocolates" for the kids and end up getting hot water mixed with some chocolate powder. This place was perfect for us! We needed somewhere to eat dinner with our young son and dog and they were not only able to accommodate us but very gracious. Tony was our server and he was fantastic - even brought a bowl of water for our sweet pupper girl. The food hit the spot, and I really enjoyed my turkey reuben. The view was beautiful and being able to distract our son by walking around the attached store while we waited for our food was great. I loved our time at the Trailhead restaurant. We got in late around 7:30pm and sat outside on the patio. The service was great, view was wonderful and the food was delicious!! We are planning to have my birthday party and family reunion here and the managers have been so helpful in planning for it. Hannah and Nipan have made it easy. I am so excited. The atmosphere here is so COLORADO and my family is coming from all across the country. I c ouldn't be more pleased that we have decided on the Trailhead for our reunion. Thank you staff! read more

This place was pretty good! We didn't stay far from here so we could have just gone back to our cabin to eat, but we ended up having Lunch here after we hiked one morning. It wasn't busy at all, we got to choose where we sat and we sat outside because the view and the weather was good even though it was raining a little. (it's a little smelly outside because there a stable 200ft away) I like that there's a small playground my kids and run around at for a bit. They had a good selection of drinks. I had the trout (it came with lemon butter and capers but I asked for it on the side because I wasn't sure if I'd like that, and I'm glad I asked for it on the side). My side of veggies that came with it was seasoned perfectly and the trout was amazing! It was cooked perfectly. My husband had a stew and that was pretty good too. Hubby and I stopped here twice after being in the park. Great spot to rest and refuel. The staff is very friendly and attentive, and service was great. We sat on the deck outside both times; that was a treat to continue to be outside and see the views. Food was a bit hit or miss. The first time, I had french toast and he had an omelet and both were delicious. The second time, I had a BLT that was good but dry. He had a steak wrap that wasn't very flavorful and had more cabbage than meat. Still, we'll likely be back! read more

I ordered a cheeseburger it was terrible too much salt, I actually don't even think it was hamburger. I'm not sure what kind of meat it was or if it was even meat. I sent it back and ordered a grilled cheese. The manager never came over and said anything they didn't give me any type of discount. I actually got sick later that night. The plates are beautifully put together in a decorative fashion to give a more fancy feel. The restaurant is quiet and peaceful and has an incredible view. Not a horrible place to stop after a day at RMNP. We were pretty hungry and this is conventionally located right outside the entrance so why not stop and grab a bite to eat? It was a gorgeous day out so we took advantage and sat on their patio which is an L shaped patio with about six or seven tables. Seeing that it was right outside RMNP there weren't bad views at all! The menu isn't too extensive and they have standard items like appetizers, salads, burgers. etc. They offer some intriguing burgers like bison and elk which is always welcomed but I just stuck with my standard cheeseburger--it was good but not out of this world. They have a store connected to the restaurant so there's a bit of a Cracker Barrel style to it and all in all a decent experience. read more

Just don't. If you've been hiking for four days and this is the first restaurant you came across, this would be a perfectly good place to gorge on hot food. Otherwise, drive on. There's better food 4 miles ahead. I have been coming to this restaurant since the mid-70s and have gone through many incarnations. Back in the 70s they had this restaurant decorated so the booths were situated inside of covered wagons. That was the heyday. No longer a gimmicky covered wagon to lure the guests in, you might think they would try to have fabulous food. About eight years ago or so I remember having a stellar elk stew here. That was not on the *very limited* menu for our visit. I had the salad and a bowl of chili. Part-time British boyfriend had the chili cheese burger. We also had two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. We should've stopped at the Sauvignon Blanc and surprisingly amazing salad! The salad was one of those rare perfectly fresh crisp iceberg lettuce salads with perfectly crisp and fresh carrots and cucumbers with very good ranch dressing. Yay! My chili arrived and it had congealed in an unappealing pasty consistency. When I took spoonfuls of it it did not even flow to the edges of the spoon. Boyfriend had a gray looking over cooked burger drowned in the same chili. His fries were not bad though. We ate all of those. Had a very good vegan and vegetarian meal here, fast and friendly service at a clean establishment. The best part was seeing the magpies come to the outside deck for water they put out in small birdbaths, and then they hop around the floor looking for tidbits. Lovely birds! We had dinner at the Trailhead restaurant. The deck has a great view of the mountains. The food was mediocre at best. The side salad was probably prepared hours before and kept in a very cold fridge. That's how it tasted. I had their signature dish- elk stew. A lot of potatoes, carrots and beans in thick gravy.  I had a hard time finding the few tiny pieces of meat. And that's their signature dish! The other main course was the Rocky mountain trout. The trout was dry, the rice bed cold and the few veggies overcooked. Never again. read more

SCAM!!!!! Food was fine- but it was the service. We had done the 2 hour ride and dinner. We didn't have a coupon to verify - ans the owner made us walk down to try and get one- they were closed. He wouldn't honor it. Said it was a favor to the corale.. so was overcharged $50. The manager said he owned it. Wouldn't even try to work with us or be kind. The souvenir shop was kind. As others have noted, Estes Park is not a foodie destination. That being said, I think these restaurants have to be taken in context. To be the last stop before entering Rocky Mountain National Park, as well as the first stop on the way out, this one could be a lot worse. They don't even have to try and people would stop. But they do try. And they get some things right. Local microbrews, local flavors and a bit of variety. My wife likes their veggie burger, the kids like the grill cheese and Mac and cheese and we all like the view. I had the signature Elk stew. It was good, especially after a morning on the ridge in the fifties. It came with a small spring mix salad with a very unique chipotle dressing I have also tried the Blue Moon beer brat. It was ok, but again, they try. Next time I'd get the Rocky Mountain Trout. Make sure you take a look at the extensive chocolate selection on the case as you walk in! read more

We checked this place out for dinner and I was a little disappointed. We ate outside where there are awesome views! The strength of this restaurant was the front of the house and the waitstaff. They were nice accomodating, good about checking on us/offering another drink (get got 1 more beer out of me than I had planned :) ), etc. They knew the menu. When wifey ordered a bison burger they suggested medium rare or medium at the most which is absolutely right as it is leaner than ground beef! The weaknesses unfortunately were the food especially for the price. I had the wild game skewers which was 1 lamb, 1 elk, and 1 bison skewer served over wild rice pilaf and with veggies that were likely frozen... It was $26 and the meat was slightly overcooked. That bison burger they suggested medium rare or medium was super well done. Tasted fine considering, but was way overcooked. I really liked the concept and wanted it to be good. The staff was great. Now they need to figure out who is going to cook the food and to source fresh veggies to justify charging nearly $30 a person for. read more
