The name of the place is pretty self-explanatory, but I wanted to see what kind of games they had. I later brought my boyfriend here and we both love this place so much. When I was a lot younger, I used to be hooked on Street Fighter II. I probably spent a couple of thousand dollars on quarters playing this mystical game. No one could touch me. I was beating all the cool kids at the arcade, and they knew I was good. Twenty years later, I walked into Barcade and got my ass whooped. Still a classic spot for craft beer and authentic video games. For space and aesthetics, I prefer this location in Williamsburg to the others in manhattan, though I will say that on my recent visit, the game selection in Williamsburg is now second best to their Chelsea Location. I like the new addition of six pinball machines, but two of them were not functioning - one was out of order, and one (pirates of the Caribbean) looked incredibly fun to play, but the magnets inside the machine kept malfunctioning, causing turns to end within 10 seconds. One of the attendants was gracious enough to refund the tokens. Pinball costs 3 tokens though! Ouch! Maybe get some classic pinballs like Addams Family, Twilight Zone, Pinbot, Cyclone, and Gorgar? Beer and ciders are still kept cold and served clean - bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, always willing to let you sample before committing. No sooner than we reached the car 5 white men walked up and were immediately granted access. Now, not a minute later with NO ONE EXITING and they were granted entry. Was the black quota reached? One of the worst experiences I have ever had at a bar. They made us wait outside in 0 degree weather telling us they were at capacity ... except the place was half empty. We finally get in and order 3 drinks (we are 4 people) we get 2 drinks and wait for the 3rd ....and never get it. We finally decide to leave and go to pay our bill and the tab has 4 drinks on it. One of my good friends came in from California and she loves this place. I met up with her and a couple of friends on a Saturday night and it wasn't too packed there was a little wait for the games but that goes with anywhere in Brooklyn. They have a lot of throw back nostalgic games which was pretty cool. Parking was a nightmare so if you don't have to drive. DON'T. there is plenty of public transportation around as well. The drinks weren't as strong as they should have been with their price tag but i did see a lot of people ordering beer so i might just do that next time. i would recommend this place for a fun night out with friends or date night but i don't think its a good FIRST date spot. read more

Waited an hour and a half. Manager said they were still at capacity for COVID. 12 people walked out after that. 5 minutes later, we asked if our party of 3 could go in. Manager said they were still at capacity. I asked how that was possible given the fact that 12 people just walked out. He said that they we couldn't come in because they didn't want to break any laws. I asked why they were willing to break the law in the first place by letting the larger party in. Oh yeah, this place brings back memories of those countless hours I spent at the local video arcade after school pumping quarters into the games and flirting with all the honeys. Except back then they did not offer a killer beer selection as Barcade does! This place will certainly bring out your inner nerd, and also brings out the Williamsburg hipster crowd. The actual place is one large room with some tables and a big bar to chill at, and all types of old school video games along the walls. Q-Bert, Centipede, Galaga, Asteroids, Tapper, Zaxxon, Punch Out, Frogger, Defender, and so many others. And just like back in time, it's only a quarter to play a game! Cool ass 80's rock and current rock playing overhead to enjoy while imbibing the 25 craft beers on tap. Beer nerds unite over a killer selection of beers here too and all around $6-$8 a pint. Happy hour offers a dollar off. What I like is that there are little beer shelves next to the games so you can enjoy your brew while dumping your change in the machines in a frenzied attempt to get that high score. Just wish they actually had some pinball machines here along with all the classic arcade games, and maybe even some bar foods to snack on. So Barcade had Yelp remove my review because they didn't like it. Which I think is petty so I'm back to leave my review again. But now I'm going to give a more descriptive account . I came here last Saturday for a friend's going away party. I had never been here before and always had interest because of word of mouth. Upon entering the space there are mutual tables and sofas along the walls. Then you have the bar on the right and it opens up to games. The space has high ceilings but when it packs up its very narrow feeling. And not much space to move around. There were multiple occasions where I had men pressed up against me. It's not comfortable when it comes to personal space. Even when trying to play the games you have people hovering over you so they can be next. That's also not comfortable as you feel pressured to end cutting the experience short. There was also a funny smell that lingered throughout the space. A drunk couple violently arguing in the right back corner. They have a mediocre selection of games. They don't serve food but you can bring takeout/get delivery. Not really impressed by this place or the atmosphere, I would look into other bar/arcade spots. read more

OK...this is a dork/nerd's wet dream come true!! I love this place. It reminds of a lost childhood. The bar is very spacious, with tall ceilings and plenty of space to just mill around with your nerd friends! We came here on a Sat night and it wasn't that crowded. Looks like they have a very decent tap beer selection. So beer lovers, this is also your wet dream!! Lining most of the walls are probably 20-25 classic arcade games. Props to Barcade for being one of few places in Brooklyn where I can perfectly marry the games of my youth with the drinking privileges of adulthood. With rows of vintage quarter games, sporting colorful joysticks and absurdly simple 'kick' and 'punch' buttons, Barcade is a time warp of sorts, allowing grown men and women to rediscover a love affair with Atari and Street Fighter. I am not so prideful that I wouldn't admit to spending many nights trying to defeat the high scores on Tetris, with plenty of cheap well drinks fueling me through the more intense levels. A decent selection of beers are on tap (including one hard cider that tasted just like fizzy apple juice, just the way I like it) are made all the more attractive by the $1 off happy hour prices and simple bar snacks are available, though be forewarned - oily potato chip fingers present a slip risk when trying to furiously tap the button that pulls a character's special hadouken move. Recent trips have revealed some new developments, such as a token system (so no more using the change machines for your next day's trip to the laundromat) and a number of new games, such as Star Wars and a multi-player touchscreen PacMan game. Some nights are busier than others, which might mean queueing up for your game of choice, but there are plenty of other things to occupy your wait time. Besides tons of other games, there are large, rustic picnic-style tables scattered throughout the bar where you can strategize with your playmate about how to finally defeat the enemies on Final Fight, and even a trip to the bathroom promises ample entertainment as you read the hundreds of handwritten messages left behind in the stall (or maybe that's just the women's room). I had to come here the moment I heard about it. I think my trip to NYC revolved partially around seeing this place with my own eyes. Beer AND arcade games? The socialite in me died a little and that inner geek came flying out. I played so many rounds of games for a quarter - yes, a QUARTER! None of the 75 cent BS! - and drank plenty of beer. Being from Georgia, which is a backwards state that doesn't believe in high gravity beer, I had to try the Dogfish Head 120 Minute. At 21% ABV, it was freaking amazing. My friend and I dubbed it the beer-tini and had a pretty fabulous night after that... or what I remember of it, at any rate! Oh, did I mention the large notebook of restaurants in the area that will deliver to Barcade? If you're starving or need some bread to soak up all that alcohol, just ask the bartender for the list. The only open space was the corner of the bar towards the back of the space where my partner and I were standing. We waited a solid 15 min before asking politely to close out (which was met with the ugliest side eye imaginable) he brings the check while simultaneously grabbing my arm and pushing backwards and slaming the bar partition hitting both me and my partners hands. I would understand this kind of reaction if I was some slobbery sloppy drunk but I was literally just there to play some games. I spend most, if not all, of my tokens playing NBA Jams because its the best game ever but there are several other good ones. Bring your little $0.25 tissue packages that you get from the front of the convenience store of your choosing. If they just had a little more food of any kind (besides beef jerkey/peanuts) I would have given them a whole 5 stars but obviously people aren't here to dine. I like Barcade. I don't love it. When I go to Williamsburg, it is usually to escape the hectic Manhattan-esque bulls$%t that can get overwhelming sometimes. Suffice to say, it's nice to be able to walk across a bar, rather than squeeze through the hordes. Also, and I attribute this mostly to the impossibly hipster nature of the area, bars in the 'burg and Park Slope seem to have more interesting options for things to do whilst you drink (see: Union Hall). So in theory, I like Barcade. I like drunk activities, good beer, and cringe-inducing puns. I never played video games growing up (or ever, really), but I can get into things. I'm a team player. However, on a disgustingly cold Friday night, we rolled into a packed house. Because it was so cold, everyone had a lot of coat/scarf/hat/glove action happening, and due to the very-packed and sweaty nature of the space indoors, there was a lot of extra layers that we had nowhere to stash. So it amounted to the same scene as Manhattan, but with more flannel and no coat check. I guess if that's what you're into, but I don't leave the island to find out I'm still there, yaknowwhatimean? I have to add, in fairness to Brooklyn, we did abandon Barcade that night only to find ourselves in a restaurant converted to a (unauthorized) dance party - replete with DJ, drinking from the tap, and smoking indoors. read more

Barcade is located in hipstertown Williamsburg. A section of Brooklyn where if you don't have a sleeve tattoo or wear a wife beater you will likely standout. But I wont let that stand in my way. I've been going to Barcade for over 5 years. Majority of the beers on tap are from micro-local breweries. They are also mostly Ales and APIs. For those who do not know much about the beers they have a list you can ask for that explains their taste and the way they are processed. The happy hour special is $1 off from all beers. Nothing that stands out too much, but if you are counting your pennies this def. something to take into account. A reviewer wanted Mortal Kombat and other newer games at Barcade. I think that will take away from the Atari 8-bit nostalgic decor that adorns the walls. The Good: Always full of people. Good looking girls and guys. I had heard of Barcade a while back and thought it sounded like a cool space. The Williamsburg location has a great selection of arcade games and definitely draws a decent crowd on the weekends. As for the games and the setup, I think they do a nice job. The games are spread out around the perimeter of the bar with some placed in the back forming little alcoves. In between each of the games there's a little space for a drink which I found really convenient (who plays arcade games with one hand, anyway?) They have various coin exchanges throughout the bar, where you can insert bills and get barcade tokens in return. Don't bring a huge bag of quarters because they won't be accepted for the games! Ms. Pacman, Alien vs Predator, Tetris, you name it and Barcade probably has it. The bar has a huge selection of craft beer and the bartenders were very attentive and made sure everyone was served. The bartenders were quick to let me sample a few beers before choosing one. Next time I hit up Barcade will probably be on a weeknight or during the day, it can get pretty crowded at night. They've got a huge variety of old arcade games here and host way much more space than their St. Marks and Chelsea locations. Lots of bar space and some tables scattered throughout if you'd rather not partake in the games and just sit. Keep in mind- this location does not have a kitchen, but they do serve chips and jerky. Knowing all this, I was a little worried when my friends suggested a "video game bar." As I walked in, I was greeted by a mural of bottle caps on the wall. I just pictured the original managers discussing which brews to carry and what games to buy as they drank all those beers. Step 1 was to get a beer, since I had a feeling I was going to need some liquid courage to tackle the countless monsters, oversized animals, and aliens that I was about to battle.
