The manager was an absolute AHole the bartender was a sweetheart. The first one. I'm 30 years old i lost my license i had an expired ID and a picture of my passport. The manager made an example of letting me in to proceed to pressure me into tipping the bartender because he "let me in". I had no idea paying for drinks as an adult was such a problem. Absolute disgrace thankful for the bartender we tipped heavily but the manager can suck everyone's d***. And the bartender we dealt with at the end had the same ideal of seeing us as problem patrons. A bar with retro arcade games! Its a nice spacious bar filled with games lined up against the walls. The bartenders were nice and never made us wait long even when it was busy. When you enter, you will be required to scan your ID and they will proceed to ask if you are vaccinated. Not sure if they only allow vaccinated people to enter, but be prepared that no one will be wearing their face mask in this establishment (except for employees and customers who wishes to keep their face masks on). Even though everyone had their face masks off, the doors were kept open for ventilation. Games were really cheap, (1-2 tokens per game), and the bartenders are really generous with the alcohol ratio within each drink. I would definitely come back! read more

Fun spot for an impromptu date. Even if you don't enjoy video games- there's a bunch of cool themed pinball machines, shooting games (try that very very simplistic one), and driving games. So if that doesn't sound interesting whatsoever- try a couple beers off their menu. The bartenders are very friendly and accommodating where if you so much as question a certain beer they almost automatically give u a quick sample. Heaven for a nit-picky chatty sampler like myself. About the selection- I adore the fruit-punch monkey something (cool names) in the middle of the front page that's similar to the Hawaiian sounding tart one. Tasted what it'd be like if blue moon, grapefruit and lemon juice had a baby. Also the "meat and potatoes" was the smoothest Guinness I've had. As someone who loves this visit the arcade, Barcade Brooklyn is nice and mellow play to play some arcade games, check out the pinball machines or grab an adult beverage, this place is for you. When it comes to drinks, Barcade has a selection a variety of craft beers ready to pour ( I prefer cider, actually). When it comes games there are numerous stand-up arcade cabinets pinball games you can re-live your younger years. If you are looking for food, however, there is not much besides chips and pretzels. One of my favorite bars in Brooklyn. Came here on a Saturday night with friends and we had a ball. A wide variety of games as well as drinks. A huge recommendation to pregame with friends (a good meetup spot) or date spot. I absolutely love this place. My first time visiting was in 2011 for my birthday & I've tried to go back as much as possible since then. I cannot say anything negative about this place. I will go as far as saying that it's my favorite place to hang out. I've been to two of the other locations St. Marks & Chelsea and I don't love them as much as I love the Brooklyn location. Don't get me wrong they are great as well, but Brooklyn just seems like home. They have a large selection of retro games. They have a large selection of craft beers. Other liquor & snacks as well. They also sell T-shirt's & hoodies (which of course I own one) Every time I go to Barcade I have a great time and can't wait to go back. This place is just fun all around! Loved it. They had so many games from the past I literally felt like a kid who was allowed to drink because my parents were away for the weekend! That pretty much sums up the joy I felt while being here and beating my hubby's behind in quite a few games. We came earlier on a weekend night around 8pm and it wasn't too crowded. Plenty of space to move around. Games only take tokens, which you can buy from the token machines. 1 quarter = 1 token Games range from 1-3 token each. Multi-player pac man was definitely the crowd favorite of the night. I am personally a huge fan of the Star Wars machine, which they have here as well. It's unfortunately not the seated version, but still tons of fun. Pinball machines were the most expensive and also the easiest to burn through all your tokens. Extremely unforgiving. A huge variety of games to checkout and also plenty of beer on tap / bottled. I will admit to having spent over $5 in these machines in a single night to see how many buildings my monster could smash up. There are always dogs milling about.. sometimes they even sit at the bar wearing sweaters. This place is my annual meet up to see all of my friends I left behind in NY when I moved to the west coast. Lots of places to sit, even on a crowded weekend night. No food, so eat ahead of time! Bartender is friendly and super attentive, despite serving tons of people. $15 minimum if you start up a tab. Easy to mistake the generic hipster for a long lost friend.. while I was there I saw a Fauxse.. not my friend Jose. So close though. Arriving here with a friend around 10pm, we sampled a few pints and began to make our rounds at the video games. Almost all of them are a quarter apiece, so get that $5 bill over to the change machine - it'll get you a long way! Hanging chalkboards honor the high scorers for each of the games, and another one over the bar keeps patrons up-to-speed on the current craft offerings. Bouncers were cool, and the bartenders rocked - they knew their inventory well. The crowd picked up a bit as the night rolled on, but it was never chaotic or overly loud on the night we were there. They have a lot of the old school video games, although some of them were not functional, which earns a frowny face. Good spot to hang out and play some old school video games. Great beer selection at reasonable prices. I usually end up here once a week to play pinball for an hour or so before heading over to Jackbar (which opens at 1 PM) Only reason I can't give 5 stars is because while their rotating Pinball line up is fantastic, they have put the machines in the worst possible location in the entire place. Why they continue to place the machines (especially Alice Coopers Nightmare Castle) under one of the Skylights is beyond me. The glare on several of the machines makes them basically unplayable during the daylight hours. I know I'd dip a lot more $$$ here on both the games and drinks if this issue was resolved. Granted that's an issue that really only effects the folks wanting to play pinball but that's a contingent of consumer that is definitely growing in the bar/arcade market Overall still a fun place to spend a few hours every so often when feeling the need for good beers and a little nostalgia but it could be a little better. read more

Great games, great staff, great drinks! Huge fan of this barcade. My favorite, "must play" games in here are 4 player Pac-Man, Crazy Taxi, and a very unique light gun game they keep tucked away near the bathroom. With a mixture of classic arcade games, sports games, and a selection of pinball, there's a little something for everyone. I found myself bouncing from machine to machine like a kid in a candy store all night. My friends and I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed that they were a number of multiplayer games available. They also sell really cool shirts and hoodies as merch! When I went, the staff were friendly and nice. The bouncer was funny and upbeat. The barkeep was very helpful and I really liked that I could put tokens on my tab! I've been to barcades where this was not an option, so I thought this was a great move. This is definitely the place to go in the city with friends. It's not so big that you feel lost or it feels impersonal, but it's not so small that you feel like you run out of things to do. Highly recommended! My only suggestions to the owner would be to change out some of the less popular games to add more multiplayer games, and maybe add a few snacks? Neither of those two were impactful enough to reduce this below a five star, just my two cents. read more

To give background, I have been to 5 Barcade locations: 2 in Lower Manhattan, One in Jersey City, One in Newark and this location in Williamsburg. I have gone about 10 total times and have played every single arcade game and pinball machine in all 5 locations, which were about 50 arcade games per location and 10 Pinball machines per location on average. My point being, I am a good customer of these Barcade locations. That being said, I arrived at this location on Friday night, May 27th at 7:20PM. The bouncer glared at me in a confrontational way for an extended period of time, until I finally asked him if I needed to show my I.D. He mumbled a greeting under his breath (in a condescending way), which was barely audible. I have never been greeted in such a hostile manner in any of the other 10 or so times i have been to these 5 different Barcade locations in the past. I do not deserve this type of treatment, I am a good customer. It is a shame because I have no other negative feelings about the rest of the arcade games or pinball machines or business inside the establishment. I do not deserve to be glared at in a confrontational way, and overall treated with such hostility when I show up at the door of this location. I will take my business elsewhere. By the way, this is the third time i have been to this location in Williamsburg, and the previous 2 times, I have never had an issue. read more

We all know how home console gaming took off once they were able to connect to the internet. Games like Street Fighter 5, Halo, and others are very popular for home console gaming. But, if you want to go back to old school gaming where you can challenge "in person" other people and have the bragging rights whenever you win, then this is the right place to come! The games that it offers are: Mortal Kombat II, Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom 2, and many others. However, I feel like this place could have purchased many more games because it seems the place has more space to place more games. And if possible, this place could hold tournaments and competitions to make it more fun and challenging... Anyways, this place is fun. Imagine if you could go back when you were a nerdy teenager obsessed with videogames like Galaga, Donkey Kong, Miss Pacman, and Qbert. Then add tasty brews on tap (lots of them). What you get is Barcade. Barcade is a nice and welcoming place that feels spacious with its high ceilings, large entrance with benches, and large ceiling windows. The selection of beers on tap is pretty awesome, with about 25 different beers to chose from (including casks). The arcade games ($0.25 each!) are arranged all around the walls, with space where to lay your beer glasses in between. There are also tables and chairs, and benches to sit outside in the front. There are also some creative artsy touches, like beer bottle cap boards. High scores are displayed on two large blackboards, like if they were beer menus. They don't serve food, but I've seen people eating sushi while sipping beer at the bar, and other people eating pizza; it seems that you can order outside food and eat it at Barcade. This place is open every freaking day of the week until 4 AM, with happy hour ($1 off) 5-8 pm Mon-Fri and 2-8 PM Sat-Sun. read more

Beer selection here is delightfully retro, and many of the drafts are of the type you use to find way back when but hardly see anymore - Abita, Harpoon, Troegs, Victory, Stone, etc. Don't know any of the current staff, but old staff was fantastic. Also, strider I loved the shit way back then, now not so much. The joystick may be a bit jacked up (slightly broken) though. *They have FINAL FIGHT now as of 8/31/12. I saw it on the friday. Cool at least some new games are added from time to time. *Q*Bert IS also a favorite game of alot of people, so is Rampage. Those games must make the most coin. I really love the concept of this bar. Get a bunch of grown 30 something adults together in a cool bar scene, give them great beer and video games and throw in some sick music and let them have fun! It was a really great time. People are super cool and it was a laid back vibe. When we went It wasn't overly packed. If your into beer the list is extensive and changes often. The website has all of the beers they are serving so check it before hand. One down fall i wish there were more seating and it was a tad brighter. Last time it was a busy weekend and I didn't enjoy the crowds, this time it was a quiet Tuesday and I wanted to grab a few beers to wait out rush hour but my experience wasn't much better. Despite there's only being a handful of patrons you would think we were inconveniencing the majority of the staff on the clock. The woman that initially served me was very nice but after she was done it was as if everyone but the customers they already knew disappeared. I seemed to be the only one they didn't know. There are 5 people sitting at the bar at any time and to give me a glass off water seems a hardship. I'm not asking to be waited on hand and foot but to only be spoken to once your drink is empty or the brief moment your bartender looks up from their phone is disappointing. read more

Decided to check this place out while I was barhopping with a friend before leaving the city. I heard many things about this place. The drinks are decently priced and the games are a nice touch to the bar and also another reason to check out this place if you have nothing else to do. It was extremely overcrowded and there was no seating when I decided to come here. Also, the bartender was extremely friendly. However, I only came here for drinks and after ordering a beer and my friend as well, we decided to leave afterwards seeing that the entire place was extremely rowdy. Two stars rating because as we were getting out drinks, we saw the waiter lick his finger after accidentally touching the dips on one of the dishes (fries and ketchup) he was going to soon pass onto a customer. Extremely dirty and disgusting. The drinks are FINE, but I highly wouldn't recommend ordering the food from here after witnessing that. read more

I go to Barcade located at 148 W 24 St where the staff's always so kind. This was my first time at this location, but not my friend's since he lives nearby, and therefore always comes to this Barcade. However, last night my friends and I experienced racism from the security guard at this location, 388 Union Ave. If I could give zero stars, I would. My friends were having a conversation with a group of people when this random white girl came up to my friend and began yelling at him. The man with whom my friend was having a conversation tried to calm this girl down, but she wouldn't stop. My friend was quite upset and raised his tone to tell her he was just having a conversation. The security guard working the night shift on 8/12 went directly to my friend. Although he tried to explain the situation to the security guard, he started yelling at him to leave and touched/pushed him with his finger on his chest. Without knowing anything, he automatically accused my friend of causing problems with this white girl. Why did he assume my friend was the problem in the situation? Because he's a man of color? Not only did the security guard on the night of 8/12 disrespect my friend, but the manager working as the bartender did as well. Both individuals need to re-evaluate their customer service; if an issue arises between a person of color and a white girl, maybe take into consideration listening to what happened first. read more
