We came for brunch, and I was REALLLLLLLLY hoping to have the infamous "fancy toast" from top chef. Apparently they only have that on the dinner menu. Although, it wasn't a total waste of a meal... the ricotta donuts were absolutely out of this universe, amazing! I could bathe in the lemon curd! The other mains were great as well. Every single dish was spectacular. The flavors were complex and delicious and our group was pleasantly surprised. One friend was gluten free and they have pizza and pasta options to accommodate. Quintessential denver restaurant- horrid service mixed with overpriced, uninspired cafeteria garbage.The server kept pushing us to order food which wasn't what I was intending to do, given the fact I wanted to enjoy my drink. Eventually ordered rubbery cold chicken while having music so loud I couldn't hear my table companion speak. They require a $15/per person deposit for reservations.. which was supposed to be refunded; It wasn't as I had to call and get my money back. Amazing service, great food. The female manager was super kind. My girlfriend and her convinced me to try their "Palisade" pizza. I love to come here with my boyfriend. The food is good and it's a fun place to meet friends for brunch or dinner. I love the burrata and the breads they make are insanely delicious. Again, a spectacular meal. It's the only place I want to eat when I come to visit my daughter. The only thing better than the wonderful food is the tremendous service. Tonight we sat outside and shard the salads, the roasted cauliflower, a pizza, and almost all of the pastas and each was as great as the last. Food was good. The noodles and the sauce were quite tasty. The only thing that burned me was the server not telling me that gratuity was included. I'm a heavy tipper, I don't generally look at the itemized part of the receipt and had already filled it out. The price l for two people took me of guard considering the portion sizes. Hot damn! This place does brunch right! We had the best time at brunch. The restaurant is small but has a great atmosphere and during brunch they had Disney playing on the TVs which was delightful. Our server was amazing - completely on top of refilling bottomless mimosas and making sure we had everything we needed. And by the way, the bottomless here are legit, tasty sparking with just the right amount of juice! That alone would keep me going back, lol! We started with the bacon as an app and yeah, that bacon is soooo delicious! Thick and meaty with terrific flavor! I ordered the breakfast pizza and my BF had the autumn breakfast hash both of which were fantastic. The pizza is pretty big but after he finished his breakfast and we had a break we managed to finish devouring it because it was so delicious. Good service. Tuesday night ... maybe their top chefs have the day off on Tuesdays as the three different pasta dishes that we had were all dry and over cooked. All three were mediocre at best. "Fancy Toast" which we were told is one of their specialties is salty onion soup on top of a slice of bread with melted cheese on top of that. I don't recommend it. $13. Tagliarini (spicy ink pasta) was ok however not excellent. Half order $14. Cioccolato dessert was great $8 Price of wines was a bit high, price of pizza was fair. Great food but the service is embarrassing. People enjoy good food but a poor experience will ruin any future visits. There are too many places in Denver to come back to be treated like crap after spending $400 for 4 people. As someone who worked in the service industry, this place should be ashamed. Prime location in Denver, with a great founder, Carrie from top chef and a decenet enough menu. Servers shouldn't act like we're doing them a favor by paying $17 for five peices of calamari and when a table of four orders meatballs, maybe let them know that only three come in an order?? Bottom line, don't waste the time and money. You can get equal, even better food, and won't leave you with a disgusted taste in your mouth. Such a solid place in Denver! Was here for a long weekend to go snowboarding in the Vail area and stopped by Bar Dough on a Sunday night before heading to the airport. We arrived around 6:30pm with no reservations and were seated at the chef's table. We ordered the fancy toast, bucatini, and the commendatore pizza. The fancy toast had beef on it which my boyfriend really appreciated, the bucatini was cooked perfectly al dente, and the pizza crust was amazing! Only complaint was that there were long waits in between the fancy toast and the bucatini & pizza (over 25 min!). The pizza came out lukewarm and our server gladly offered to put it back in the pizza oven to warm up again. Would definitely recommend checking this spot out if you are in Denver and want a casual, delicious meal! read more

Been here multiple times and it's always tasty and delicious food. Came on to review the incredibly small portion sizes though. The $18 beet salad was probably 1.5 actual beets chopped and sliced up with a tiny amount of greens and cheese. It was appropriate for a 1 person serving, not to share. Great place for pizza and pasta. White Negroni drink was pretty good. I loved their pizza, the dough is absolutely wonderful, not too thin not too doughy, perfectly textured. Their pasta sauce was amazing, though I did feel they kept pasta too 'Al dente' making it extra chewy. Also I did feel the pasta was a little overpriced. I'm a Top Chef fan, so anytime I can go to a contestants restaurant - I'm all in! On my recent trip to Denver, I found out that Carrie Baird's restaurant was close by, so I was super excited. We started off with the foccacia garlic bread & meatballs and HOLY SMOKES that was for sure the best garlic bread we have ever had. We then moved onto the commendatore pizza, which almost seemed like it was dry, lacking any sauce - it was okay. We couldn't leave without dessert, so we went with the peanut butter & jelly zeppolis which looked and tasted burnt, I don't recommend. But we did also order a scoop of gelato which was really good and left us with a smile. Although some items were a bit of a disappointment, between the garlic bread, meatballs, gelato and service this place still deserves a 4 star. read more

I went here during Happy Hour but didn't have a reservation so my gf and I sat at the bar. It wasn't very busy but the bartender still didn't even check on us for at least 5-7 mins and when she did finally come to us, she had a terrible attitude and kept cutting off my gf when she was asking about wines. We finally ordered our wines but again did not receive them for another good while. When we went to check out, the bartender separated our checks without asking us and then we noticed the $3 service charge on both checks. My glass of wine ended up costing me over $20. I know it's COVID and times are hard but that is just a bit ridiculous. read more

When I review a restaurant I usually base it on three things. 1. The service and friendliness of the staff. 2. The food (major component here) 3. The restaurant itself (this includes atmosphere, cleanliness, accommodations, etc) Bar Dough really outdid themselves when it came to 3. Their service is what really got me! They were quick to seat us (it was only 4:30 so there were plenty available) and immediately brought menus and water. The waiter came over right after and instead of diving into the menu, he genuinely asked how my day was, and talk to me for a couple minutes. It wasn't just small talk but he was just genuinely nice and genuinely cared. Once my friend sat down he talked to us about the wines and gave suggestions. He wasn't quick to point out the most expensive with any motive to make an extra buck. I actually learned a lot of about wine, what it pairs best with, what I want to stay away from and what would be pleasing to the palate according to my current favorites. If I were basing my review on service alone, Bar Dough would easily get a 10 star. After ordering wine and chatting, we requested two wood fired pizzas. We settled on the smoked mushroom that was an olive oil base with mushrooms onions and balsamic, as well as (my favorite) the traditional Margherita which has red sauce, basil and mozzarella. Both pizzas were very good. My only complaint would be the solidity of the crust. The middles were so thin they became a bit soggy instead of crispy and you couldn't really each a slice by picking it up. I prefer to stuff my face rather than politely forking my food into my mouth. :) Everything tasted good and the setup is comfortable and inviting. They also have a great bar, where I will probably find a spot on my next visit. :) read more

(January 7, 2021) 1st star for the clever naming, playing off "bar" (it does have a full bar) and "dough" (pizza seems to be their main thing). And the play on Bardot ... hot and delicious. COVID (Temp Category I Hope) - Everyone is doing what they can to deal with operating the business in a new way. Bar Dough is no different, and they are doing a great job. Their website is updated daily with any menu changes. It also provides information that will help you enjoy the experience. From how to make reservations,  to what part of the place is set up for walk ins and how to order food for pick-up or delivery. Additional indoor/outdoor seating has been added to the patio areas with those little glass houses you see popping up at restaurants all over the place.  These little touches speak to the experience they want you to have when patronizing their restaurant. For COVID safety, the staff seems comfortable and methodical about cleaning and sanitizing. They looked like they were pros, made me very comfortable. Experience (How I Felt) - I was a bit worried about this one as I first walked in. The host seem to have his dukes up even as we first approached the desk. Although this is not good for business, I can only imagine the crap this man has to take on the regular from customers that hold him accountable for every COVID-based inconvenience. There were a couple of interactions (putting name on list, checking back after getting texted, asking about next table available) that were rough initially, but by the time we were sat it has been smoothed over. Probably helps that I am in an industry impacted by COVID as well (retail), so I am probably more patient than others. My guest and I were seated at the bar, the only option for walk-ins. This is where the experience really took off. Sean was our bartender, and I believe he introduced himself as the bar manager, too. Sean made the experience. From his ability to talk you through the food and beverage menus, his stories of "back in the day" (meaning early 2020) to his genuine interest in how your time under his roof is going. He gets it. If I'm wrong, then he's the bartender / manager you want running your bar! My friend and I were doing a lot of catching up, and when our main course was ready we hadn't even begun our salad (bad behavior for restaurant patrons in today's dine-in climate). The wait staff noticed this when the main was presented and took it back to hold it while we ate salad. Without any requesting on our end, the kitchen remade our food once we were ready for it. Food & Beverage (What I Ate) - The menu offered at Dinner for Two that included their winter salad (I hate winter, this salad was so damn good that I'm considering "I mildly dislike winter") and Milanese Pork. OMG, this was so freaking delicious. The pork was served over fingerling truffle potatoes with a butter and caper "sauce" (aka a pan full of melted butter). I asked for a spoon to scoop up that buttery-capery goodness onto my plate. So good. The amount of food was generous as well, enough to have leftovers the next day. We added on with dessert at the end, chocolate ganache and vanilla ganache, generously sprinkled with cocoa chunks and lightly drizzled with caramel sauce. Completely unnecessary. Completely acceptable. Cocktails were also enjoyed. I had an old fashioned, and that was my first in probably 6 months. Sean asked all the right questions, explained the difference between the "new" and "old" old fashioned. You should definitely ask him if you're curious. The order was rounded out by my dinner guest ordering a hot-totty. She likes hers with tea, and Sean did not blink an eye at the modification, simply inquired about which teas go best with the honey, lemon and whiskey elixir. Recommendation (What I Suggest) - GO THERE NOW! Skip a meal if you have to make room in your belly. Or just be prepared to have leftovers. (The pork, with the potatoes, heated up with 2 fried eggs over top of them, with a side of sourdough toast is a phenomenal 2nd showing.) read more

This place is awesome! Amazing food, fabulous service at the bar. We found this gem on our first night in Denver and it took a lot of will power not to return again during our weekend in town. Definitely would return on a future visit. Started with two cocktails mixed by the super friendly woman behind the bar. Both the #1 (like a white negroni) and the #2 (a manhattan style cocktail) were very good. B later tried an off-menu last word that was tasty, too. Food- so many options, it was tough to decide. - Verde salad ($5HH size) was nice a fresh with a lemony dressing - Brussel sprouts ($5HH size) were delish! so many flavor going on- roasted a raw veg with pistachios, a bit of spice, something sweet (maybe honey). Wow, this was great! - Bruschetta ($5) with stracciatella, rapini, and aged balsmaic- this was the best bruschetta I've had in ages. The bread was slightly sweet, the cheese nice and creamy, sooooo good. - Roasted carrots ($14)- this was a beautiful dish, but not my fave. The roasted carrots were tasty, but the pine nuts were a bit over whelming for me. - Roasted asparagus with white anchovies- Reminiscent of a caesar salad, I really wanted to like this because I LOVE white anchovies, but the dish wasn't my fave. The spears of veg were topped with a pile of too much cheese that had melted/hardened, a lot of breadcrumb. We cut the crusty stuff apart to eat with pieces of asparagus and anchovy. It just wasn't that good- sorry :-( - Spaghettini ($18, half portion)- my FAVE of the meal. The parsley flavored pasta was cooked perfectly with a creamy crab sauce and pieces of king crab. OMG, sooooooo good!!!!! - Caprici pasta- this was so creative, unlike any pasta dish I've had. It was a cold dish with sprial noodles, cooked perfectly, with roasted grape tomatoes, herbs, chopped up pancetta, and topped with a generous serving of creamy buratta- yum! I was too full for dessert, but it sounded so good that we ordered one to share anyway. - The chocolate caramel dessert was beautiful. So many textures (creamy, crunchy), tastes (chocolate, salt, caramel, cocoa), and temperatures (with the cold gelato). It was the kind of dish that makes you pause to savor after the first bite.
