Chuzo Salad
Avril L.

My family and I came on a Wednesday evening without a reservation and were seated with no wait (the host let us know there was a 9pm reservation on our table, giving us 2 hours to dine.) For 3 people we ordered: the calamari, a lobster roll, a potato side dish, a small vegan paella and a chuzo salad. The food was good but not great - the calamari was nothing special, the lobster roll was a little over salted with the fries not fried enough, the potato dish had texture and the toppings on it had spice + acid, the salad was simple but refreshing, and the finally the vegan paella was well seasoned, strong tomato flavor in the rice and the vegetables were nicely charred. The ambiance of the restaurant felt summery, it was a little humid with a slight wind that evening and they had all doors open allowing the breeze to flow through their space beautifully. The biggest let down was their service. For a weeknight at prime dinner hour and not a very crowded night, it took an hour for our food to come out from the kitchen. I noticed another party, who arrived after us, was served their food prior to us. I wished our waiter updated us on the food without my having to ask first.

Bar Chuzo is doing something really special with Latin cuisine and this meal was proof of that. Creative, bold and intentional, every dish delivered! The Tuna Aguachile was a standout! The sushi grade tuna and avocado layered together in a bright, herbaceous broth that had just the right amount of heat and freshness. The Scallop Crudo was equally impressive, silky smooth scallops with a citrusy, slightly sweet backdrop that let the quality of the fish shine. The Crab Cake was well seasoned and had this beautiful depth of flavor from the Ecuadorian manglar crab, not your average crab cake at all. And the Chicken Chuzo Platter genuinely surprised me. I normally avoid skewer style meats because they tend to come out dry but this chicken was incredibly moist, tender and packed with flavor from the brasa marinade. Served alongside yuca croquettes and Andean corn, it was a full, satisfying plate. On the drinks side the Light Roast Espresso Martini was smooth, perfectly foamy and had this lovely depth without being overly sweet. And the Ruby Rose Cooler? As a pink grapefruit lover, this one was made for me. Bright, refreshing and dangerously easy to sip.

So so good! Pricing is fantastic for happy hour. We ordered the following and only spent about $100 before tip: Drinks -Mi Barrio (HH - $11) -Bay Ridge Baby (HH - $11) -Bar Chuzo Margarita (HH - $11) -Rose Sangria (HH - $11) Food -Mini Salchipapa (HH - $11) -Ecuadorian Hot Dog (HH - $5) -Pork Chuzo Platter ($18) -Ecuadorian Chorizo Platter ($16) Everything was delicious. Our favorite was the Salchipapa and the yuca croquettes from the platters which we could eat plates of. Between the pork and chorizo, I thought the pork was more flavorful but the chorizo was also very good. Out of the drinks, I enjoyed the bar Chuzo margarita the best. Since it's a clarified drink, it looks different from a regular margarita but oh so delicious. My least favorite was the sangria but I don't usually enjoy wine. When we entered there was only one other table occupied. Food and drinks were served quickly. Their menu is also great in delineating between GF= Gluten Free | DF= Dairy Free | V= Vegetarian | V+= Vegan. I would 100% come back during or not during happy hour. Highly recommend.

Rarely do I give 5 star revisit this place deserves it. Nestled on a quiet corner in Bay ridge, this place gives of family favorite neighborhood vibes. We sat outdoors on the side of the bar at a cool table underneath and umbrella. It's just what I needed on a cool summer day. Everything we ordered was really great, the steak and potatoes were cooked to perfection, the salad was dress well and I don't even care for an arugula salad but guess what I like it only there. Everything was just great!!! The wings were so good I didn't even notice there was a sauce to go with it. It was devoured! My ceviche was really fresh and the plaintain chips it came with were the best compliment for it. Now our waiter was amazing, attentive was an understatement. If I saw someone's food at another table and asked what it was he was able to identify it. He made our lemonade iced tea to perfection. He was even moved to an inside table and was moved from servicing us and he still constantly came back to check on us. The experience with him made me solidified I want to come back.

Came here on a Saturday and made a reservation. We got seated in the back of the restaurant where the music was loud. So be prepared if you are looking for a place to chit chat. Overall we ordered the chorizo and that was outstanding in flavor. Seafood Paella: A massive standout loaded with jumbo shrimp, clams, and steamed mussels. The rice absorbs a rich, deeply flavored broth carries a hint of smoky paprika aiol.

The food and service were great. My favorite was the Chicken Chuzo Platter, but I can't stop thinking about the Tres Leches. It was the best I've ever had so far!

A real local gem! I kept hearing the buzz about this spot so I stopped by for dinner one night. Very quick and attentive service, cozy vibe, I had the guacamole and chips as an app and the lobster roll special. The guac was so refreshing and had tons of flavor, the lobster roll was unreal! It was so buttery and delicious with a generous serving of lobster meat, and the French fries were super crispy and delicious. I ended up returning again for another dinner and tried the wings and the chicken chuzo, also phenomenal! This place really knocks it out of the park.

Bar Chuzo has a lot going for it. The oysters were fresh and well-presented -- a great way to kick things off. The seafood paella was packed with flavour and generously loaded, but missing the socarrat. The pork and steak skewers were both tasty, nicely charred with good seasoning, though the steak skewer edged it for me. A few minor rough edges keep it from five stars, but overall a very enjoyable.

This unassuming family owned restaurant in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn serves some of the best Latin seafood dishes in the city with Ecuadorian influences. The place is small with crowded tables but the service is great and the food comes out fast. The scallop crudo is a fresh and clean bite with melt in your mouth sashimi grade scallop tossed in sweet guanabana, apple, and honey roasted cucumbers. The tuna aguachile is plated beautifully with a stack of avocado, tuna, and cucumbers that goes perfectly with the house made corn chips. The crab cake is filling and flavorful on a base of creamy pepper sauce. The chicken chuzo is grilled perfectly and drizzled in a delicious salsa verde. The drinks were decent with a standout being the Bay Ridge Baby with raspberry jam, lemon, and blanco tequila.

It is time for an Ecuadorian lesson.. shall we? Let's break it down: Definition: "Chuzo is a brochette or skewer of marinated, grilled meat with bold seasonings, classic sides, and the unmistakable flavor of Colombian street food." "Bar" well we all know what that means, "vamos, vamos, vamos!" Since my first visit last year, I was hungry for more deliciousness and decided to go with Yelpie friend, Sharon for brunch. Bar Chuzo has the restaurant and bar attachment which is where we dined. I happen to like the bar room for dining, it's charming and quieter for a Sunday brunch. Bar Chuzo offers really nice Brunch selections from ceviche, salchipapas, tuna, steak and apps from delicious fries, calamari, crab, plantain chips, croquettes and so much more. Here's what we ordered: Apps- Plantain chips( dinamita !) with a side of salsa verde. Yuca Croquettes with Yuca, Chihuahua cheese, and uchucuta sauce( green herb chile sauce with nuts) Dinamita number two! Two different brunch menus, Menu 1 offers apps, sides, entrees, cocktails and desserts. Menu 2: Bottomless Brunch for 90 minutes choice of Margaritas for $35 or Mimosas for $30. Mains: Crab cake Benedict consists of sunny side up egg, crab cake, potato cake, uchucuta hollandaise sauce, crostini and Chuzo salad. Sharon enjoyed it very much.Dinamita number three. Chicken Chuzo: Brasa marinated chicken skewers, Andes Ecuadorian corn, yuca croquettes. There are two skewers with three pieces of chicken on each, scrumptious, loved the taste of the chicken, the croquettes ( yuca again) nice accompaniment and the corn was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend! Dinamita number four. Cocktail: Mango peach sangria hit the spot! Service: Gabriella is a great, professional and accommodating server. Absolutely wonderful and knows her stuff! Dinamita number five. There are delicious desserts as well but too full. The portions are generous and this meal for me was lunch/dinner. The vibe here is chill with Latin music seeping into your veins. 'Mis felicitaciones al personal!' ( my compliments to the staff). Bottomless Brunch: Saturday and Sunday from 11:30am- 3pm Lunch Monday-Fri 12-4m Dinner: Mon-Thurs 4-19pm. It's a perfect place for a thoughtful cocktail without the crowds. My wife and I stopped here on a Sunday afternoon while our son was celebrating a birthday with his friends at the Brooklyn Battle Blaster Nerf Arena nearby. We had the place entirely to ourselves when we arrived, and that hour of peace and quiet with a great drink felt just luxurious. Bitter Monk comes from the same team behind Sugar Monk, the amazing cocktail bar in uptown Manhattan. It's an intimate bar that doubles as the tasting room for Atheras Spirits, their micro-distillery. The menu is built around house-made amari, herbal liqueurs, and bitters, with herbs, roots, flowers, and wild plants (many of them foraged) worked into the drinks. Added bonus: Everything they pour comes from New York State. The space itself is gorgeous. Colorful stained glass glows behind the bar, framed by a metal piece that reproduces the Atheras Spirits logo. The ambiance is elegant but relaxed, cozy with a loungey vibe; the kind of place where you can settle in without feeling like you need to dress up. I had the Devil and the Blue Sea (Svol aquavit, Atheras Akhenaten amaro, tamarind, yuzu, lime, patchouli, and baharat). It was complex and layered without being muddled. My wife had the Gaia Martini (Atheras Botanical Monks Gin East, Method dry vermouth, Svol aquavit, and Atheras mastiha liqueur), a beautifully herbal take on a classic. Both were excellent. A friend who doesn't drink joined us later, and he had real options. He ordered the Butterfly Field, a zero-proof cocktail with Lyre's London Spirit, yuzu, lime, lavender, butterfly pea, orange blossom, juniper, pepperberry, and egg white. It got the same care as the regular cocktails, not a token mocktail. Side note: They don't take reservations; it's first come, first served. Happy hour runs Thursday through Sunday until 4 pm, with a choice of four cocktails for $13-14.

The bar had a table in the front two corner with around 5 chairs per table and a table for maybe 2-3 people in front of the dj/karaoke setup. It happened to be karaoke night. Also, noone was sitting at the bar area at the time. There's also just one bathroom in the back of the bar. Since we just had dinner, we only ordered drinks. As always, we ordered 2 long islands. The drinks were lite at first, so it didn't feel as if there's much alcohol in them, but it hits later. Overall not a bad drink for the cost. I believe it was $12 per drink. Of course one drink isn't enough so we decided to get another drink similar to a long island but has blue curacao. We showed the server/bartender a picture of it and they said they could make it. We've never had the drink before so I can't compare it to other places. The drink was pretty good, but we still prefer the long islands more. Not that the drink didn't have enough alcohol though. Moving onto the vibes of the bar... it's very different from city vibes. It may be that my friend and I were the youngest ones there and everyone else were much older. Kudos to the singers though, they had such good lungs to assist with their singing. They were very much in tune and on beat. Would I come here again? Yes. But maybe not on karaoke night, since it was really difficult to hear my friend speak and have a conversation without asking him to repeat himself.

Every beer that I tried at the taproom had a very smooth, crisp taste that I don't always connote with beer and reminded me why I used to love beer in the first place. I enjoy the buzz I get from beer more so than from any spirit, and I didn't feel heavy and full after a couple of the lighter drinks they had on tap. Their taproom is quite spacious, with a big open room and high ceilings. Since drinking inside is verboten in NYC right now, I perched myself on one of their outdoor seats they have set up under tents. With outdoor drinking though we are at the mercy of Mother Nature, and while it didn't rain, this is a particularly windy street, and gusts of wind sent their plastic chairs moving and their tents shaking, but their employees came out to help make everything more secure, which was really nice of them! My favorites include the really refreshing "Just Add Lime," the seasonal pumpkin ale, and the citrusy summer ale. I appreciate that their menu includes a wide range of ABVs, from lighter ~4% ABV to stronger 11% ABV drinks, so you can decide what kind of adventure you want to go on. The folks who work here are super friendly and they allow you to bring food to drink alongside their beer. The vibe is great and I could easily spend a whole afternoon here playing cards with friends, getting some food delivered, and sipping on their very delicious beer, pandemic times or not.
