The atmosphere is rugged, familiar, heavy with regulars who know each other. That can be comforting, but it also means new people feel a little on the outside looking in. Their beers are solid, the vibe is strong (sports, darts, classic pub banter), and it has the bones of a great local hangout. But there's a resistance to change or warmth toward newcomers, which makes it feel like a place "for the in crowd." If they worked on opening the door just a bit more for first‑timers (friendlier service, small gestures of welcome), Paddy's could be even better. As is, it's dependable and characterful -- just not always inclusive.

I feel like, if you read between the lines, it's people coming in groups when it's busy acting entitled. The staff at lunch has been nothing but courteous, w/ excellent service. Also, very clean inside, & food was good quality / fresh ingredients. There are almost no Irish pubs in this area open for lunch anymore at all - thank goodness this is a good one!

What this bar pulled was completely unacceptable. They were openly reserving seats at the bar for certain people while telling everyone else they were unavailable. There was no advertised reservation policy, no advance notice, and no opportunity offered to regular customers. Apparently, the only way to get a seat is to know the owner, know the bartenders, or be part of the inner circle. What made it even worse was that my group had been sitting at the bar, ordering food and drinks starting around 7:30 PM, only to be forced out of our seats at 7:45 PM. The reservation signs on those seats clearly stated they were reserved for 8:15 PM. We were paying customers actively spending money, yet we were removed 30 minutes before the supposed reservation time. That is absolutely egregious behavior. I've worked in sports bars and have owned sports bars in New York City. In all my years in the business, I have never heard of reserving seats directly at the bar--especially during a major sporting event. It goes against everything that makes a sports bar successful. Bar seats have always been first-come, first-served. That's Sports Bar 101. I've spent plenty of money here over the years because it was always a great place to watch big games: good atmosphere, sound on the TVs, and a fun crowd. Unfortunately, last night proved that customer loyalty means absolutely nothing. Regular patrons were treated like second-class citizens while preferred customers received special treatment. For a bar that markets itself as a neighborhood sports destination, this was incredibly disappointing, unprofessional, and frankly insulting. If you're planning to watch a major game here, don't assume you'll be treated fairly. Unless you're friends with the right people, don't expect the same experience as everyone else. There are plenty of other sports bars in Brooklyn that understand how to treat customers. After last night, I'll be spending my money there instead. I have been going to the Irish Haven for a couple of years now and it has never disappointed. From the welcoming and accommodating workers who turn into friends to the festive and eclectic events thrown here, the Haven is never lacking in a fun time. They can pretty much make you any drink (ask my friend who gets bloody Mary's at 10 pm) and the prices are always good. The owners are great people who always make sure everyone is having a good time and can be usually seen around. This neighborhood bar has a wide ranging demographic: you can find everyone from young, old, Irish, Spanish, Albanian, hipster, jock, etc . An interesting touch to the Haven is that The Departed was filmed here making this dive bar extra special in that you are standing where Leonardo Dicaprio has once stood (just don't order a cranberry juice). The inside is big and you can always find someone to play pool with in the back. I have spent many crazy nights here often staying to 4 am or later because nobody wants to go home yet with the juke box blasting and spontaneous dance parties starting. I literally could call this my second home from the amount of time I spend here. I have met so many interesting great people here that have become close friends. Definitely recommend this place for a quiet game of pool and a drink with a friend or for a full fledged night of debauchery. read more

The Irish haven was a good bar until it was recently bought, This bar has a barmaid that was working there before it was sold and she was great until she did not want to keep up with customer service skills... very bad for business I would not recommend this so called bar to any one no more! Your not supposed to smoke in bars any more in NY they allow it! even though your not supposed to gamble in NY they do! and even the manager sits there to protect the wrongful barmaid with an attitude some poor excuse for a manger... I have been coming to this bar for sometime and what I love is its consistency. The no-frills atmosphere is comfortable, pours are heavy and if you walk in not knowing anyone, you have to try hard to leave the same way. Reliably solid pints of Guinness and "Shrek" holding down the end of the bar can't be swayed by subtle changes like Irish music on Sunday nights and flat screen TVs. I've known them almost all my life, although I was too young to go & drink there when I used to live in the apartment above, they always treated me like if I was one of they're own kids. I've been going to the Haven for over a year now and it's my favorite local pub. Good prices, good mix of local and young crowds during weekends. They have a jukebox and a pool table in the back. They also do holiday specials and cookouts on occasion, so check their Facebook page. I love the the Haven. read more

We've never had the drink before so I can't compare it to other places. The drink was pretty good, but we still prefer the long islands more. Not that the drink didn't have enough alcohol though. Moving onto the vibes of the bar... it's very different from city vibes. It may be that my friend and I were the youngest ones there and everyone else were much older. Kudos to the singers though, they had such good lungs to assist with their singing. They were very much in tune and on beat. Would I come here again? Yes.
