I was here for a surprise party a couple of days ago. I felt welcomed. What was really cool was they had photos of The Departed. I would totally come here again.

Donna, just one of the fine folks spending a sunny Friday afternoon at the Irish Haven

Had a wonderful time today. Friendly folks, great atmosphere. Stopped in today and was immediately treated like an old friend. This is a real New York bar, for real New Yorkers. God I miss going to bars. #savr

New selection of taps, 5$ each pint... Mate!

This is my favorite neighborhood spot for a pint! The bartender (Mike) is always friendly and approachable, the rest of the staff is friendly as well. The fact that it happens to be a 3-4 minute walk from my house is nice, as it leaves little chance of me accidentally and drunkenly stumbling into the wrong house. (Process of elimination baby!) I wish their selection of beer was a bit more expansive, from memory I recall there being 4-5 tap selections including Bud, Bud Lite, Guinness, Sam Adams and Sam Adams Seasonal, Smithwicks and Magners Cider. Not a terrible selection, but they don't take the (brace for snobbiness here) TRUE beer lovers into consideration and satisfy our thirst for the good stuff (IPA). Please get IPA on tap! kthx:) ^_^ I come in here every once in a while (despite the IPA-less environment) because the atmosphere is friendly, people actually acknowledge your existence here and the other patrons are usually fun to talk to. They have events sometimes, like all-you-can eat/drink, unsure of what the prices are for those. Price for a pint at any time of the day is 5$ which is the same as happy hour prices at most other places. They have apparently been around for some time, and I was told there was a movie shot here. They even have their own t-shirts and Ireland memorabilia. They have a jukebox and a pool table, which is awesome! The box is full of great music by Def Leopard, Pink Floyd, Metallica, etc as well as several other genres. I think they have food here too, but I have not tried it yet.

Great time at the Irish Haven.

Your typical old school Irish bar. There are always regulars sitting at the bar. Bartenders are always chill and drinks are always cheap!

Old school irish pub in Sunset, no frills, no pretension. Definitely a neighborhood bar that has been here forever!

Can you bring food from outside? I'd like to sit at bar and eat my hero and then drink

Yes absolutely! You can bring in whatever food you want day or night. The bartenders even have menus to offer for local restaurants.

The venue is pretty spacious they have a back dining area, a big bar when you enter and a full bar upstairs. There's a ton of televisions if you are watching sports as well. They have a pretty deep beer menu which I loved. The food menu is Irish influenced bar bites. We had the wings which were nice and crispy. The center of attention was the waffle fries nachos. You can't go wrong with a potato vehicle to fresh toppings. All and all great fun spot for sports and gatherings. Also this is a melting pot. Various ages, groups, backgrounds, saw a few families. All are welcome. One flaw is St. Patty it appeared that our waiter who was superb was the only one working so it was a bit of chase to close out.

In general, I like the mellow / peaceful vibes of outer borough NYC Irish pubs at lunchtime. McMahon's did not disappoint. Solid buffalo chicken wings & good burger. I am also post fries (I will try one or two of yours, but I don't need an order of fries for myself.), so can't comment on the fries. They also make a mean Caesar salad. The Caesar & buffalo wings are pretty much my metric for all Irish pubs. McMahon's would def be in the upper 50th percentile. There are a bunch of negative reviews for this spot on here for when they are very busy, on Barclays Center game nights and / or weekends. I feel like, if you read between the lines, it's people coming in groups when it's busy acting entitled. The staff at lunch has been nothing but courteous, w/ excellent service. Also, very clean inside, & food was good quality / fresh ingredients. There are almost no Irish pubs in this area open for lunch anymore at all - thank goodness this is a good one!

This is as casual as it gets. Typical American bar/eatery for grabbing a quick bite and a drink. A…read moregiant bar spans a quarter of the entire indoor space. If you want water, there's a giant jug of it on the counter. Help yourself to some plastic cups. Super loud ambiance, due to bar TVs and people talking really loudly. In such open space, sound carries. Prepare to talk really loudly and strain to hear your conversation partners. The background music was nice--all the classy rock, pop, and modern hits bringing you nostalgia from the better days. A few outdoor tables available, if you'd like to people watch in good weather. Service is fast, staff are very efficient. We got $20 ribs special and $18 chicken sandwich panini. I was surprised that both were decent. Fries were not too salty nor greasy and not heavy at all (surprise). Ribs were tender and fell off the bone easily. They were served in sweet BBQ sauce. Instead of fries, I got salad--which was just a few lettuce leaves from a pre sold supermarket salad bag, so be warned. Chicken panini sandwich was the unanticipated standout of our meal--massive chicken breasts that were tender and well grilled were nestled between tasty toppings. Overall, this was very filling (can be shared by two) and satisfying. Very cheese and saucy, which I also appreciated, as I can't stand bland food.

"A Rare Full English in the Wild"…read more You don't just find a Full English breakfast in Brooklyn anymore -- you hunt for it. You scroll endlessly through delivery apps, dive into brunch menus full of avocado toast and eggs benedict, and eventually resign yourself to pancakes pretending to be culture. But Black Horse Pub? It dares to serve one. And it nearly sticks the landing. ‍ Atmosphere Inside, it's shoulder-to-shoulder. Jerseys everywhere, football on the TVs, a kid playing games on a phone while someone in an Arsenal kit yells at the screen. Outside, I grabbed a rain-dampened table, and the waitress wiped it down for me without being asked. That may sound small, but in Brooklyn? That kind of service is practically extinct. Service Genuinely some of the best I've had in a long time. When I had trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi, she came over and typed in the password for me. Not handed me a slip of paper. Not pointed vaguely at the wall. Typed it in. When I assumed my second round of drinks (a shot of whiskey and a Magners) would take forever -- it was packed -- they showed up immediately. The whole vibe here is "we see you, and we got you." Wings Better than expected, and I already had high hopes. Perfectly cooked -- juicy, not overdone -- with a sauce that walks the tightrope between sweet and spicy without falling into sugary overkill. Balanced, addictive, and clearly not an afterthought. Full English This is what I came for -- and what most places in this city wouldn't even attempt. * Eggs: Fried just right -- golden edges, runny centers. * Mushrooms: Meaty, earthy, cooked with care. * Grilled tomato: Balances out the richness. No soggy mess here. * Ham: Lean, maybe a bit undersalted, but solid. * Beans, toast, and yolk all mingled together -- the kind of simple, hearty opulence that only English food can deliver when it gets out of its own way. * Black pudding: Absolutely excellent. Delicately rustic, no harshness, perfect texture. * Sausage: The only miss. Clearly not an authentic banger -- more like a basic breakfast link. And when you're this close to nailing it, that matters. In a city where it's nearly impossible to find a Full English done with this much effort and balance, that sausage doesn't ruin the meal -- but it does knock it down a notch. Would I come back? No question. Already planning to. If they swap in a proper sausage next time, it might just hit a perfect five.
