No frills Irish bar in Bayridge. Came the other week for a fellow Yelper's birthday. They have a kind of nice outdoor courtyard. Surprisingly decent draft list of beer for around $7 not on happy hour times. We did numerous shots here and I may have been effed up by the end of the night. It kind of has the slap in the face no-nonsense Brooklyn charm about it. When it turned midnight the bartender was like 'get the f**k out' while grabbing my half consumed Stella. But I also can't blame them. They have snacks of things like hotdogs and pizza rolls on their menu for $3 but I have no idea what they taste like because someone ordered Dominoes at that point and I completely lost it because I don't remember the last time I had pizza. It was overall a fun night and a solid place to chill. Surprised I've never checked out this place because it's been around for so many years and I used to live in Bayridge and probably have popped into almost every bar out here at some point years and years ago. I have a soft spot for The Harp. I feel very comfortable whenever I come here and have always received great service no matter how crowded it gets which is not as often. Still, service is consistent regardless the crowd as it does get crowded especially during UFC fights. That is partly the allure of this joint of why I chose to go here over other bars around the area. I love that no one is screaming over me. I love that there aren't much creepy guys. I love that I don't have to strain or yell to talk to your friends, you can just grab a nice cold draft beer, enjoy your drink, and go on your merry way. Harp, you got me at the heart. read more

First time at the harp and it was a nice and mellow night. I came here with some friends looking forward to all of the board games and darts! It took us almost the entire night to wait to get our turn with the darts, but no one was really playing any of the board games. I'd say they can use an update on their board games or just add some more variety! There was only one bartender, luckily the bar wasn't packed, and we got our drinks in a timely manner. There's also a juke box, but the songs are kind of outdated, it'd be better if connected to the internet. Otherwise, this was a nice mellow bar filled with a mixture of different age groups. read more

Fantastic addition to the myriad bars of Bay Ridge. This is a true Irish pub in the sense that it's not scene-y, has a nice mixed crowd of laid back folks looking to relax and is a space for gatherings that accomodates everyone. It feels a lot less xenophobic than some bars where everyone clearly knows each other and isn't interested in having newcomers (I'm a lifelong resident, don't get upset!!!) The owner is a great fella, longtime Bay Ridge institution on the bar scene who has lovingly restored what has long been an "old man bar" and outfitted it with multiple flat screen televisions, entirely new interior and a lovely backyard to sip your brew in the nice weather. Pretty roomy bar with a jukebox and lots of TVs. They host the Pay Per View UFC fights for a $10 and have a a good sound system to go with it. On fight nights it gets pretty crowded but if you get in early you can get a good spot. A harp beer was $7- not really a deal! There is a back garden space and even though it was winter people could still go back there to watch the TVs or smoke. They don't have their own food, but you can order in which is pretty cool. I would be curious to see how it is on a regular night or check out the garden in the summer. read more

Okay! I finally got to sample this new bar. I will say that I generally like the place. There may be some validity to the complaints I've heard so far: namely that it is a joint with a split-personality. Does it want to be an old man's dive-bar filled with crusty 'regulars'? Or does it want to be an upscale, trendy Irish-themed eatery? The decor adds to this confusion. There were elements I gravitated towards--the bar area has a nice atmosphere; and a very convenient 'drinker's shelf' along the opposite wall. This is wonderful. But then the rest of the room (heading towards the back) seemed ominously cold, spooky, cavernous, neon-lit; and hard-surfaced. Not warm or inviting. At best it was stylish. Not sure that justifies the theme/design; what may speak more is the fact that it was deserted on a Saturday night. I will, however, complement the overall cleanliness I saw. Excellent. Back to the bar area: nice selection of draught beers. I could see myself spending some very pleasant hours here. Not that happy with the prices; but I guess this is happening all over Bay Ridge as places strive to stay afloat. One thing: it doesn't strike me as the kind of bar which will be happy about 'buy-backs'. One other flaw to mention: the bar also has just really aggressive flat-screen tv's which don't lend themselves to a warm, "conversation-based" place. This scene will rather attract a sort of older, burly, throaty, big-bellied type of lummox (serious drinkers; loud drinkers) here, similar to Skinflint's-- and these are unfortunately the kind of guys that any other type of patron may find it hard to mix-in with. In general, there were just too many big, hulking mofos lurching around the place, scowling; giving off 'territorial' pings. I disagree with Heather (who suggests) that Harp is not leaning toward this off-putting vibe: I think it definitely does have an "in crowd". Prediction? I don't see it lasting more than a few years. This is a shame because its an interesting location right across from Greenhouse. Fun perspective to people-watch. Summary: a little rough edges to work out but overall; adequate place to stop in as one wanders down 3rd Ave. Good luck, Harp. . read more

The Harp is everything a local pub should be: warm, friendly and unpretentious. I stopped in this weekend after brunch and was impressed at how nice the space is. There was a wide mix of people enjoying the game, and everyone was very friendly. The bartender got our beers quickly and after we sat he made a point to come over and offer us a plate from the free Spread of ham and sides they were offering. We were all too full from brunch to partake, but we all appreciated the hospitality. The Harp offers a nice selection of beers and everything was very reasonable. One of the owners also came over and invited us to eat and wanted to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. All in all, I am certain The Harp has become my go to pub when in Bay Ridge. Although there are a lot of pubs in the area, The Harp truly stands out for its great atmosphere and excellent hospitality. read more

I wish I could give this place more than three stars. It's a nice bar, but when someone who works at the bar has the tenacity to use bar money (presumably) not once - but more than three times - for the "TouchTunes" DJ machine so they can push people's music to the bottom of a queue just so they can listen to their own music is more than rude. I understand it's their establishment and more than likely a way to get people to buy more alcohol while they wait for their own song to play, but it is a huge turn off. read more

Nice reincarnation to old Mooney's, but prices are inflated for my flavor. Five bucks for a post-7 pm domestic draft? Ouch. Double ouch when served in faux pint glass. this place usually has an older crowd when I come here, but overall the quality of the drinks are perfect. this place is your all American bar, just some good beers and frozen drinks. a cool new high tech juke box, good sports games on, and this place is pretty clean, not a huge place so it can feel a bit crowded on the weekends. this place also has good events like st patricks days lunches/ bbqs, one big party rather than just a feast. read more

Wow, what a great place!!! We stopped in for some beers after brunch on a Sunday and were greeted like we were family. There was complimentary home cooked food available and it smelt delicious. I wish I hadn't just eaten because people were treating themselves to 2nds and 3rds. There was also a really nice backyard with outdoor seating. Recently went to the harp bar to watch ufc 194 as well as for the Ronda Rousey fight. Extremely poor service and the fans the came to watch the fight were disgusting and pretty much allowed to do as they please. 4 times thru out the course of the night i had to wait 15-20 minutes (3-4 five minutes rounds) for another drink even though i was located at the bar for the duration of the ppv. The bartenders completely ignored anyone on the left side and worked the other end of the bar while a good 5 of stood their with our hands out trying not to be rude but looking like complete idiots. By the end of the event i was told i had to wait because they needed to charge people out. The owner had no clue how to handle the situation and was ignorant to the fact that he was understaffed. So after 30 minutes and no you can't make this Bullsh** up i had practically walked behind the bar to get the owners attention just to get my check. mind you by this time half the crowd had long since left. No apology was given just a sense of i could care less. I've often come to the harp to watch the UFC ppv fights. But i have to be honest the service has gotten progressively worse and for the biggest of cards it just turns into a zoo. I think its time i find another establishment and if your reading this you should too. read more

I have loved every bartender I have ever come across at the harp. this particular tender, though, on several occasions has been rude, aggressive and just overall impolite with every person in the bar. Terrible service. Had really bad, slow service not once but twice (thinking I'd give it a second chance). Literally took almost 15-20min to get my FIRST DRINK. Unattentive bartending staff (two different bartenders; both females btw, so it wasn't a one time thing). And it wasn't even busy (9pm on a Friday, in Bayridge). Last time I went there the bartender (one with a tattoo in arm & glasses) didn't even say a word to me. Just threw a beer coaster and gave me a 'what do you want' look. Not a word. As if annoyed I was there. Never felt welcomed here. Especially if it's gonna be your first time. Would give Zero stars if I could. read more
