Just in time for Happy Hour(5-7), $1 oysters, $7 draft and $8 house wine or $2 cheap wine. Alisa arrived and wanted a Cosmo but can't handle grapefruit. Romer to the rescue.. Hibiscus replacing grapefruit. Alisa loved it. There is no table service thus, you order from the window near front entrance. Great pub food selections from shrimp or oyster po' boys, hamburgers, tacos, sriracha honeyed chicken sandwich and more! Burgers served with fries but if not, add $3 to the order. We placed our order with Nick and you are given a ringer that rings when your order is ready. The music is pumping, Romer making good conversation and soon the bar is getting busy. Our order was ready and we found a table in the back, under the Sea Witch mural. First my Shrimp Po' Boy: Italian bread from Caputo's stuffed with a dozen small shrimp with rich butter garlic, parsley and scallions. The fries were crisp and plentiful. I came here for a birthday party for a friend who met his girlfriend here, and I could see how this place draws a crowd. It really has a nice vibe. Everyone's pretty laid back... A quaint space,filled with dark, moody decor, resembling a sunken ship galley. Definitely on brand. All ages, shapes and sizes were having a good time. Hallelujah, the full food menu has returned to Sea Witch! When we first went in 2020 they'd narrowed things down to some safe but kinda boring options, so I was pleased to see it restored to its full glory on a recent visit. I really enjoyed my fried oyster po'boy, and my friends liked their popcorn shrimp, pork schnitzel sandwich, and burger. Food aside, the bar has such thoughtful decor and chill vibes, from the very cool ship-inspired exterior and gorgeous fish tank behind the bar to the open and relaxing backyard, complete with ample seating and a mini waterfall with actual fish swimming around in it. I like to market this as a themed dive bar, but my partner thinks it's a bit too classy for that. While I've only ever been here in the evening, there's an outdoor patio space with a water feature and tons of green that make you feel like you're transported into another land. The bar is also never too crowded, and you can usually find a table to have a drink with a few friends. The rest of the decor is also worth mentioning: in the front, the bowed our structure reminds you of being on a ship, while the bar area has a live aquarium atop; the back contains murals of sirens and mermaids, also a nice touch. I wouldn't rave about all of the food, but the fries are definitely some of the best in a bar I've had (we also got the sriracha honey chicken sandwich which was fine, and the schnitzel, which was a bit meh; the shishito peppers were surprisingly hot, while the popcorn shrimp was sad). The burger itself was good! The service - not so much. My other party member never had their buzzer go off and when they went to inquire... it turns out that their ticket had fallen behind something on the counter and never made it to the cook. This place has four perks that bump it into 5 star range: - The magical fish tank - outdoor seating with some cover - top notch beer list - Kitchen that's open late with high end bar food The music is a diverse mix of hip hop and rap, the bar tender is attentive, the crowd is hipster but not over bearing. There were two clean bathrooms and the tables were spread throughout the narrow space well. These small details are hard to find so when a bar does all of them well, I notice. The burger and fries were cooked simply and perfectly, and cost $13 total. And the beer was the rare craft kind but never more than $9. In Brooklyn, that's a great deal. A group of friends brought me here last night around 8:00 (Friday). Sea Witch has a really cool underwater vibe. I thought it was totally unexpected for the area but I'm happy I took the plunge (see what I did there?) The music is a bit loud but not outside. This hoppin' place has an outdoor patio area that has ample communal picnic-table style seating. The doors to the back were open wide which was nice for a 70 degree breeze. I'm sure I'm the summer it gets busy here. The prices are decent here. A standard can will be around $7. A cocktail is more around $9 or $10. Not bad for being so close to South Slope. We ate food here too. I had the burger which curbed my hunger. It wasn't super fantastic but it was a standard burger. It's a thin patty that comes on a toasted potato roll with tomato, onion, and a thin coat of iceberg lettuce. Friends had the BLT which they finished happily. The French fries are the thin, salty and soft kind which I love. They go down with the burger well. I'll come back in the summer when I can snag a seat outdoors! read more

The Sea Witch is less of a "hole in the wall" but rather a "cove in the wall." I first discovered this place half a year ago as I was exploring the south slope region and I was immediately caught by the front of this place. It gave off a really strong "moody" feel... and that is my favorite type of feel for a bar! Inside the Sea Witch it's dark, and filled with maritime paraphernalia. Past the area were you can order food your immediate attention will focus on the large aquarium that aligns the wall of the full bar. Honestly it makes you feel like your in a Herman Melville story, if that makes any sense. The music they play here fits the mood perfectly. It's hard to describe but it's like an eclectic indie mix of stuff. It's never too energetic and it's great for drinking. I have a feeling these are staff picks because I have noticed a couple of times that the bartender here gets into the songs mood. As advertised from the front the bar does have 20 beers on tap. It's quite an interesting selection and you will find some unique beers on the menu like an "old ale" that has a distinct wine taste to it. For the less outlandish selection you can find city favorites like Six Point here as well. Besides beer the cocktails are also appealing. During the winter I had a mulled wine here which I was disappointed to find out was only a seasonal drink. Turns out a lot of their drinks rotate! As said before you can also order food near the front entrance. It's mostly a selection of seafood/grill options like popcorn shrimp, fish tacos and burgers. I was also shocked to see Spiedie Chicken on the menu. I have not seen that sandwich served since my college days in Binghamton NY but it is a welcome one. If you open a tab at the bar you can order from their service window and it will be added. The Sea Witch is a wonderful bar with a great atmosphere, nice staff and quality drinks. Made a quick stop into Sea Witch on Friday evening. A fantastic dive bar that has nailed everything from the drinks to the ambiance. It is a place worth going out of your way to visit. Quality: There is just something about a great dive bar that is so appealing, and Sea Witch definitely falls into that category. The space, the staff, and the drinks were all excellent, and I have a feeling the food is awesome too. We only stopped in for one drink, but I know I will be back soon. On this evening I went with the Kelapa, a cocktail with bourbon, cold brew coffee, and vanilla. A little jolt of energy in this slushy-type beverage packed with a lot of flavor. With more time I would have explored the extensive beer menu. A quick look showed a great mix of local and high quality breweries being represented. Quantity: I love that they serve cocktails as either a double or a triple. No messing around with weak drinks. Value: $14-$18 for the Summer Cocktails. Ambiance: Sea Witch is located south of Park Slope in Brooklyn. It is a place you see the name and you know you will be back. Also, I love the sign advertising the best backyard in Brooklyn, and it is hard to argue with them. Not many yards have an elaborate koi pond setup. In a storied garden space, they have tables that wrap around a surprisingly large pond filled with fish. However, I would argue inside is even better. With a nautical theme, the inside is made to feel like you are in a sunken ship. A large fish tank glows behind the bar, and the blue lights the rest of the space. It is relatively dim inside with just a few candles and lights to illuminate the rest of the decor, including the creepy mural towards the back. Excellent alternative rock tunes pulled everything together, though I hope a sea shanty or two pops on every so often. Crowd: A good amount of people both inside and out. It was a hot evening, so I was surprised so many people were in the back patio, even though it was very nice. Inside about half the tables were filled, along with a few seats at the bar. Service: The bartender was friendly and fast. There are plenty of regulars at this bar, and she did not miss a beat, making my drinks while chatting with two other customers. Came here with a page from the Brooklyn Pub Pass. This bar/small plates restaurant has a nautical theme to it. The outside "Sea Witch" sign is donned on a sail. When you first walk in, there is a small kitchen to order food. Once you go a little further, there is a huge bar with a big fish tank above it and tables in the back to eat. They also have an outdoor area which is probably open on less cold days. My friends and I took a seat at one of the tables towards the back. We went back to the bar to order our drinks first. I tried to order the Fair State Lactobac: out. Damn, okay, so I went for my second choice, the Grimm Telos: also out. I was going to go for my third choice but I guess the bartender sensed it and told me that the Grimm Lucky Cloud was also out. It was a little disappointing that at roughly 8 on a Saturday all these beers have already kicked. So I settled for a Jack's Abby House Lager. It was light in color but heavy in taste. It had a very distinct sweet malt flavor which went well with my food. The next beer I ordered after was the Right Proper Astral Weeks Saison. It was also light in color, but lighter in taste. This was very interesting. When you first take the sip, all you taste are spices. After you swallow, the after taste is somewhat sour. Not sure how they pulled that off but it was good! They also have a nice selection of Japanese whiskies! If you want to order food here, you have to start a tab at the bar and then go to kitchen around the corner after to order. Once you've ordered, the cook will give you a timeframe to come back and pick up the food. I ordered the pork schnitzel sandwich. It was as big as my face! It was also a nice little curb to my beer-induced craving. It was a bit of a trek to come here from Queens but definitely a good experience. It's a sunny day and you find yourself in the Slope craving a cold beer and some grub. There are two options: Greenwood Park which is fun, but usually quite noisy (due to the combo of music and the crowd) and over-run with kids OR Sea Witch, an out-of-the-way spot with a lovely back garden that tends to be nice and low-key. Walking into Sea Witch is like entering a cave or more likely their intent, the hull of a ship. It's dark, with a full bar and a smattering of tables. As you enter the place, before reaching the bar, you'll see a window where you place your food order. There is no table service, but they try to approximate when your food will be ready to be picked up at the window. Not ideal, as fries can get cold fast if your pick-up timing isn't just right. We always opt for the delicious Pork Schnitzel sandwich and/or the Spiedie Chicken sandwich...and, of course, hand-cut fries. Your beer selection depends on your preference. They have about 20 beers on tap...IPA's, Goses, Stouts, Farmhouse, etc...and a couple cider options. And they've been known to have hard-to-find beers from Maine Beer Company on tap. The bar tenders are typically very nice and will help you select something to suit your palate. The hidden treasure of this place is through the back doors and up a few steps where you'll find people chilling, chatting and enjoying craft brews and food. In the background is the faint sound of a little bubbling stream, replete with fish and turtles. Don't expect luxury seating in the back yard...it's your standard picnic-style tables, but they do the trick. I mean, it's so hard to find places with outdoor space! I was trying for a long time to figure out a suitable bar to waddle over to post Talde for birthday shenanigans for a good long while. Well, I think I deliberated over it at the last second for like a day. I didn't want to go to the double Windsor, I needed a bar large enough for 20 of my nearest and dearest drunkard friends to wash down some reasonably cheap-ish beverages and this popped up on Yelp. I had never been here but have been to Freddy's near by a number of times. Which eventually of course happened at the end of the night. I mean, it is the Addams Family bar of South Slope, after all. This caught my eye with the outdoor garden and the fish tanks. There's a Moorish Idol fish (Gil) from finding Nemo in the main tank behind the bar, say hello. The garden out back has a bunch of picnic tables, heated lamps, bridges, little pools with brightly colored fish. It's a nice touch. A huge mermaid mural on the wall, which makes a certain Little Mermaid enthusiast named Steph P. insanely happy, though I think the older mermaids scared her. This bar is both divey and oddly charming and kind of beautiful. I'm completely surprised with it all. Great list of beers on tap and a shockingly delicious food menu. Though, I didn't eat here a number of my friends did and one dude got a huge Pork Schnitzel sandwich with deep fried pork loin, banana peppers, mayo & mustard and another had the fried bluepoint oysters with Louisiana-Gold hot sauce, blue cheese dressing, and crumbled bacon. Really loving this backyard bar- if only it weren't so far. Beautiful lush backyard complete with two koi ponds, turtles, and a little stream. Nautical themed, wooden interior, fish tank with exotic fish (including one that may have been fed fish food crack... swimming frantically, non-stop, from end to end for a solid 30 minutes plus), chain linked bar seats, sketches of mythical sea witches. There's a nice line-up of beers and service is friendly. Thought it was smart having the bar food stand in a separate, cordoned off section- menu looked great, unfortunately was too full at the time to try anything. The backyard garden is an natural OASIS from the city. I love the site of fishes in the pond. The sound of rolling water. The wood benches, wood trunk seats and long wood tables. So nice to be in nature, despite being in the Gowanus. If it's wet or cold outdoors, there's indoor seating. Bar stools and booth seating. Several beers on tap. The bartender was so hospitable. She allowed me to sample a few draft beers until I decided on one. They sell food, near the entrance. Tacos and such. It's billed separately from your bar tab. I gave this place 3 1/2 stars. My friend brought me to this place because of the nice big outdoor space. We got beer and headed to the patio. The likes - assorted menu of beer - bartender was patient and helpful at helping me pick my beer. Gave me a few tastings so I could pick what i like - decor was quite unique - a big barrel of water as they don't have table service (this might also be on the dislike list) The dislikes - even though the outdoor space is big, 1/2 of the place was reserve and the other half taken - SMOKERS. I had to move inside as I didn't want to get lungs cancer by inhaling so much 2nd hand smoke - inside wasn't any better because it's an open space - i know bars are dark but somehow this place seemed darker - you have to go back to the entrance to order your food, as i said no table service - they run out of pretty much everything when we ordered around 8pm. - ended up with schnitzel over greens. If you're in the area and you haven't been here, you're missing out on some of the best food and drinks this area has to offer. Obviously they go hard on the seafood- fish tacos, fried oysters (by themselves or as a sandwich), clam strips and more. And AMAZING hand cut, fried to order fries. (We got one order for the 3 of us, ended up getting a second.) The staff is also very knowledgeable but not stuck up about it. And they make some killer frozen margaritas and an awesome daiquiri.
