Happy New Year with Gareth Emery

Like it's other warehouse counterpart, Depot 52 (which also happens to be located on the same street if you just keep walking west past this place), the Brooklyn Hanger is pretty much on the outskirts of civilization. Highly recommended that an uber be split to get to and away from this place (the train back to Queens will take you an hour and a half, if everything runs smoothly). While it may not enjoy the amenities of your mainstream super clubs (looking at you Marquee and Space Ibiza... I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the lack of flush-able toilets), the rewards reaped, with respect to sound and lighting, at a warehouse such as this are extremely noticeable. First of all, because it's far, not glamorous, difficult to get to, etc... that may be enough to weed out the certain type of crowd that I don't particularly like (saw some broad sporting 6 inch stilettos and dudes with button ups and blazers... def not the place for that, and they didn't exactly last either). The lights and lasers are brighter, as this is a dark and closed off space... and the acoustics benefit from the set up and location as well (isolated warehouse equals a closed off space that allows for maximum sound bounciness... that's an industry term). More importantly, the crowd that came in was probably one of the friendliest and coolest group of strangers that I will likely never meet again. I guess it's because they come for the music they like, and not for the scene (believe me, it's painful watching live streams of performances at clubs... the crowds are so lame!). Give me a good artist, and I'd be happy to come here again (just get your permits in order, so you don't have the same fiasco that happened with Teksupport effing up the second night of Pryda's warehouse show at the Depot 52).

Was here for Octfest. On paper, the venue would've been great, but they had a ton of snags. First off, the sound was all messed up and way too loud. The basement was very, very warm and only some of the fans were running. And they didn't let you drink outside. I'm sure some of these things can be blamed on the organizers, but whatevs.

Sick laser show at Gareth Emery's Electric For Life NYE bash!

Went to Tiesto concert on feb 24th. Horrible sound, too loud. Wear earplugs to protect your ears!

Everything was offered as one or two ounces pours, so you could sample a bunch or relish exclusive bottles. I had one ounce of the Lucky Thirteen for $15. I typically see the bottle at a $200-$300 price point, so it was nice to get a taste without the huge splurge. Wonderful aroma. Sweet and vanilla forward reminding me of marshmallows. Sweet corn flavor too eventually switching over to more spicy flavors from the run in the late flavor and during the finish. Staff was quick, friendly, and helpful. There was one single occupancy restroom. Dynamic atmosphere. Huge sprawling windows allowing plenty of breeze and sunlight when opened. They have monstrous black out curtains which can be draped to instill a classic dim and romantic speakeasy vibe.

The vibes are classy with an entire wall of bottles lit up for a nice ambiance. Since we had our pup with us, we sat in the patio. I ordered the Rye Tea Punch ($16) while the boyfriend got the 10 Year Old Fashioned ($16). It was so cute how my drink came in a little clear teacup, which was a nice touch. The only thing that was disappointing was the slow service. We had asked for the check, but it never came around after waiting 15 minutes. We had reservations to get to, so the delay was annoying. I ended up walking up to the bartender to close out the tab since we never got our check.

The service was also great as the bartender was quick and got us our next drinks as soon as he saw we finished our first one. During our visit, we tried the Matt's Ginger Old Fashioned, Brooklyn, Vulcano, and Palermo Fix. All cocktails were $14 each, which were all nicely made. The Brooklyn was very strong and the Old Fashioned is a nice classic with a hint of ginger flavor. The other two were lighter with twists of sour. They also offer some paninis, plus a toasted lard bread ($5) that we ordered. The lard bread is from Mazzola, which is absolutely delicious, but kind of sad that they only offer 4 pieces. Cool bar in the neighborhood with tasty drinks. It's such a simple, yet sophisticated bar. There's also a pool table in the back to enjoy.

The Neapolitan is my favorite. The only food items they have are a few panini's so don't come here expecting a full food menu. They have a pool table in the back and outdoor seating. The service is always quick and the bartenders know how to make a cocktail. Love coming here whenever I'm out and about in Caroll Gardens.
