Ok since I was in the area, I went to check what they had available...this time they had more items available...Im usually around Flushing when things are closing, but Bao's Pastry is very popular with lines all the time...they had a lot of bagged items and the bland milky bao. But ooh I noticed the caramel egg tart and within seconds of just walking near the Plexiglass...an employee asked if we needed help. So L quickly asked for 4 which I thought was too much. We ate 2 a hr later even though it was late .. it was really flakey. The egg custard part isn't as firm as a traditional one.. maybe more custardy..but it was good. Sweet but not too sweet. At $3 each...the egg tarts were so much better than what we tried before. We ate the other 2 a day later. The crust wasn't flakey but it was still tasty..we'll stick with these from now on..

I came here on a Monday morning and the line was short (for once!) so I had to walk in. Indoor has all their pastries laid out. You can also see ladies making more in the back! You can pick out what you want and pay at the front. There is no seating. We got a taro custard tart and a regular egg tart. The taro custard tart outshined the egg tart 10x. The egg tart was good, but similar items can be found anywhere. The taro one though was delicious and so special!

Long but efficient and well organized line. It was a drizzly Sunday midday and we got through in about 10 minutes. Oozing lava cheese tart was the overall fave I quite enjoyed the Milk flavored Taosu I also got a bag of almond crisp cookies of course

This is becoming a very popular bakery in the area- the line of customers moved fairly quickly and smoothly with staff members directly customers. There's a lot of yummy pre-packaged buns and cakes in the middle of the store, but the most popular items are their egg tarts made fresh, behind the Plexiglas- where customers can view all the pastries being made. Got their lava cheese tart and their popular Portuguese egg tart. I thoroughly enjoyed the Portuguese egg tart more than the cheese one. The crust is a flaky buttery croissant crust unlike the typical ones you find at Asian bakeries, it texture is wonderfully balanced with the rest of the egg filling. Overall, great bakery among the ever growing shops in the area

Dropped by because the line was short. It was still crowded and kind of over-stimulating inside. The store was clean and the staff was ready to help. The caramel egg tart was still delicious. In terms of their new items: - Fluffy floss roll: this is the item I was most excited for and it lived up to my expectations. If you like the classic pork floss bun from Chinese pastry stores, you have to try this!! It was the perfect bread to cream to pork floss ratio. I had to stop myself from eating the whole container... - Tiramisu egg tart: creamy, but lacking in flavor. The texture was flaky and satisfying to bite into. - Matcha milk cake: light in the matcha flavor. Orea crumble on top was soggy. It was fluffy, but a few bites were enough. After that I started to feel sick from all the cream.

Usually they have a huge line to enter the store and since we were there early we saw no line and decided to check it out, get a few things there. - Crispy floss cakes it's good but way to much mayo in it. - 2x croissant egg tarts & 2x Custard egg tarts - 2x tiramisu tarts I actually like their tiramisu tarts and their croissant tarts alot more.

Happened to be in the area on a weekday and there was no line. (There's always a line during the weekend.) I asked what was the best seller/most popular item and was directed to the floss & seaweed. Got a few of those and some Portuguese egg tarts. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the floss & seaweed, the texture and flavor combination did not appeal to me. However, the egg tarts were very flaky and quite good. The store is well organized and clean and the staff were very efficient.

It's the hot spot of flushing and lines have been always long so when walking by an saw a short line I was feeling lucky! The tarts are delicious and light! Taste is not overly sweet and the flavors are not over whelming. Some of my group was not tasting the flavors and prefer a stronger flavor; like the blueberry. Service is fine and place is very clean. Cost for the items are on the high end. I enjoyed the tarts and felt they were refreshing. I'm just ok with the savory pork floss & seaweed item.

I've been wanting to try this place but I waited till there were no lines. I went on a week day recently and was able to get in right away and shop for what I wanted. There are no seating so you just shop and take your goodies home. My favorite was the taro milk cake. I love Asian sponge cakes and this was pillowy and enveloped in delicious taro cream that wasn't too sweet. Enjoyed the almond crisps and Portuguese egg tart. Will be back to try other items since everything I tried so far was delicious.

When I was walking around flushing, so many people were carrying bags from this place that I had to check it out. As soon as I went there, there was a line of ~10 ppl outside the doors but it moved fast and we were in by ~10 min. It was cool to see them actively making fresh baked goods through the clear glass window My friends and I trialed a couple of their goods (love that they give packets of gloves for those who don't want to get messy from all of the pork floss, taro, or cream). Our collective favorite wasthe cream puffs. Some of my other favorites would be the taro egg tart (the taro is so fluffy, I usually dislike red bean but their version is a good addition to the egg tart), and their almond cookies (good snack that I've been slowly savoring at home). There are cute plastic reusable bags that they give you, though this most recent time I went, I noticed that they gave it to those who bought more items, not for my friends who bought 2 or less. They're pretty pricey ($10 for a bag of almond cookies, $3 for an egg tart), which is why I'd give it 4 starts Overall a good place to try a multitude of light asian pastries (especially those involving cream and/or pork floss) if you're in the area.

3.75 Just okay. Their line is because of the small space & customers browsing slowly as they're shuffled in on one line. It seems to move fast though. I was in the area & stopped by twice with only a few people in line (rainy weekday evening & a late morning on a weekday). Have had their (was told best seller) Crispy Pork Floss Cake & bag of Butter Mochi (this might be a new item, saw it on social media). It seems like their popular items are small disc-like sponge cakes sandwiched with a cream filling in between, then lightly covered in it (either taro flavor buttercream. Or plain & rolled in a sea weed pork floss mixture or coffee flavored mixture. Like a Asian higher-end hostess cake. The quality ingredients & items were fresh (since everything's being made & refilled in front of you). But I'm not a fan of these ($4.50-ish for two) giant soft oreo-like pastries (3-4 bites) The cream inside actually tasted like mayo or a plain buttercream (non sweet) & the crispy (generous) topping was a but too seafoody for me. Don't usually eat pork floss & the idea is interesting..., but I liked the pork floss part here. Crispy bits of sweet salty bacon-like flavor. The $8 bag (8 pieces) of Butter Mochi was really good though! I didn't see any cases or signage with them, but I asked the worker at the Egg Tart window and he grabbed a bag from the window FYI. It's a little indulgent for 1 person & I gave away 1 or 2 to people waiting in line. The simple butter mochi is also a disc-shaped thing (a theme here?) that might have been made in big chestnut-shaped steel mold. The glutinous rice flour wasn't too sweet and the edges were nicely caramelized & crispy. Super good chew to crisp ratio! (4 stars for this) BUT I don't know if they keep well overnight and the two that I left in the bag got really hard the next day. Tried slightly warming them in a toaster oven, but they weren't the same. My advice would be to eat them on the same day or if you know how to store & reheat these, let me know. None of the other pastries looked too special and things that I can't find elsewhere. People seem to like their egg tarts, but they looked on the smaller side and there's other bakeries in the area who makes them well enough. I'm curious to see what the mainland China shops sell and what's popular there.

Heard about this place when it first opened though the long lines were a deterrent. Now the lines are more reasonable and line moves quickly. Bao's Pastry hasa lot of options. They are known for their signature pork floss though I found the item I liked the best is the plain egg tarts. Oozing lava cheese tart is made with a cookie crust. Taro egg tart has purple rice which throws me off a bit since it's different. Go check them out!

Such a popular bakery with good reason!! I love the mini milk raisin cookies!! Super light and the raisins add a sweet touch. We also got the milk cakes, and taro cakes. The cake itself is so delicious. They were soft and light but I really don't love how they douse the cakes in the filling. I would rather it just be in the middle. It was a bit overpowering after awhile. Service is so efficient.

It's absolutely amazing, and the filling is very generous--it feels like heaven in every bite. Another favorite of mine is the chocolate layer cake: rich, velvety smooth chocolate that isn't overly sweet. The only thing I don't agree with is that they do not clearly tell customers that dining in adds an extra $1 charge to each item. Yes, check your receipt. I'm expected to tip my waitstaff and also pay an extra dollar per item just because I chose to dine in. For example, the cupcake is usually $4.75 to go, but they charged me an extra $1 for dining in. Their cake slices are usually $9.50 to go, but I was charged $10.50. I also tipped 20%, so the added charge felt frustrating, especially since there was no clear notice. When I asked the waitstaff about the $1 charge, she said it was entered that way because I dined in. When I later called about it, the manager simply said, "Next time, just order to go if you don't want to be charged extra." That response was disappointing, especially since there was no visible sign explaining this policy, and their dine-in menu does not show separate pricing. I really think management should fix this to avoid misleading customers. Transparency matters. Don't get me wrong--I would still come back because their cakes are amazing, but from now on, I'll always order everything to go.

Over the years, I have tried many of their desserts since it's one of the only decent dessert options around the area. However, it would not be my first choice if I had others. With that said, my whole family and many of my friends all agree that their best item is the Berry Napoleon. That is the one cake that I do enjoy from this shop. We often buy a whole cake for a group gathering or birthdays. As for dining in, there's always a lot of people inside the store and it gets a bit loud. Not my favorite place to relax and chat with my friends. That's why I only buy takeout when I do get the Berry Napoleon. I think I do prefer the Astoria original location more.
