This viral Chinese pastry shop usually has a long line, so we were lucky to get there without having to wait, although the lines do move pretty quickly. When I walked in, I was overwhelmed by all the selections and wanted to get everything! I was skeptical about the popular pork floss seaweed pastry because I'm not usually a fan of that combination, but it was so yummy! The pork floss was the best I've ever had and so much better than the ones from the grocery store. The egg tart was super eggy, and although the crust had lost its crispiness after my long flight, reheating it in the air fryer brought it back to life. I also really enjoyed the lava mooncake I got. If I'm ever in the area again, I would definitely come back!
Their Portuguese style tarts are good! Usually I don't like Chinese style Portuguese tarts but these are good quality and we buy and freeze them and air fry before we eat.
Bao's Pastry is another Chinese chain that recently made its way to the US. After hearing so many rave reviews, we decided to stop by and see what the hype is all about. The interior is modern, bright and very clean. All the pastries are made in house, and through the large windows, you can watch a team of 10-15 employees working efficiently in the kitchen, all wearing proper PPE. We tired the Portuguese egg tart, Taro egg tart and the seaweed crispy floss cake. The Portuguese egg tart has crispy crust and smooth rich egg custard filings, but the taro egg tart is even better if you are a taro lover. The crispy floss cake is unique, soft sweet cake paired with savory seaweed and pork floss created a surprisingly balanced flavor. The packaging is very thoughtful. They provided individually wrapped gloves and forks, made it very convenient to enjoy these pastries on the go. I can definitely see the appeal.
This is a relatively new and very popular Chinese bakery right in the middle of Downtown Flushing on Roosevelt. Compared to many Chinese bakeries I have been to, they're open relatively late, as they close at 9:30 P.M. daily, so it's possible to skip the giant lines for at least a good amount of time while still trying some fresh things if you arrive here by 7:30 or so. It was chaotic inside, and I eventually bought two things after perusing through the options. The first was the Golden Portuguese Egg Tart/金葡蛋挞/Po Tat for $2. Compared to some other places, I found the outside a tad crispier, which led to a larger crunch. The inside was pretty eggy, but I prefer the deeper flavor at a handful of other spots, with my golden standard (appropriately) being Golden Crispy. Overall, it was good. The other thing I bought was the $9 Hawthorn Soft Pastry/山楂软酥. This came with nine pieces, or something similar, with the shortbread pastry shell being much flakier than expected. The soft inside was lightly sour and sweet, which was pleasant. The texture contrast reminded me vaguely of a pineapple cake, but less jammy. Overall, I liked both things. I wouldn't mind going back and trying some of their other more unique pastries.
Favorite item was the milk taosu cookies. Perfect not-too-sweet cookies with perfect amount of bite but not too crumbly. The floss cakes are light and bouncy, not too sweet, but after eating two, you just don't want any more due to the sweetened mayo inside, which is probably why they package them in twos. Cod fish version was not fishy at all and has no mayo and is still light and fluffy. Mochi pudding was interesting. I don't hate or love it, but the textures are unique. I would recommend to get and try it yourself. Would I wait in a long line for this? No. Would I go back? Sure, if I'm in the area.
Line moves fast so don't be alarmed when you see it outside. Fan favorite is the mochi, chocolate scones and egg tarts. It's nice to be able to watch the pastry chefs at work
I was wow'ed by Bao's. They had a unique variety of pastries you don't typically see at asian bakeries. A matcha horn? Mochi pudding? Seaweed crispy floss cake? Tiramisu egg tarts? Say Whuh?! It's new, it's fun, it's different (to me that is). I came across them as I was making my way downtown to get some boba. I decided to stop by on the way back because they seemed like the busiest shop on the block. I also saw a lot of people walking around with cute yellow cooler bags from them and that was a sign for me to try them. Gotta see what the hype is about, am I right, am I right?! Apparently, Bao's is a pretty chain in China and Flushing is their first US location! Okay anyways you walk in, take a tray and try not to be in anybody's way because the shop is pretty small. There's good looking pastries everywhere. Cookies, cream puffs, breads, buns and of course egg tarts! I picked up a pair of matcha horns and mochi pudding because it looked intriguing. There were maybe like 4 different types of egg tarts to choose from. I went with the regular egg tart and grabbed an oozing cheese tart. I wanted to try everything but damn their prices weren't right and I could only eat so much. The matcha horns remind me of cannolis. They have a crispy other shell and a smooth and tasty filling. They were kinda small and expensive tho. $5 for 2 but they were fun to eat and not too sweet! The mochi pudding was something I've never encountered before. The pudding was smooth and creamy and had a subtle flavor to it, possibly milk? and the shell that kept the pudding together was slightly crispy and mochi textured. I loved it! My mom liked it, too. And she usually doesn't like a lot of things I recommend... The oozing cheese tart definitely oozed like lava. The tart shell was really good and paired well with the creamy filling. It's something you'd eat and not eat anything else for a while because it's on the heavy side. Like you need to drink a lot of water after to reset your stomach, and you'll be induced into a food coma. I saved the egg tart for the next day because I had reached my pastry limit for the day. I didn't have a toaster oven to warm it up, so I put it in the microwave for a few seconds. It was still flakey and the filling was smooth, had a splash of sweetness and was creamy. It was a tad bit smaller than the usual egg tarts I get at other places tho. Like I said the shop is kinda small and it's a U shape layout. And there's pastries on both sides of the shop and be sure to check everything out if you can. You could see the bakers and employees hard at work through the glass baking, assembling and organizing pastries. The employees will nicely pack your items in the yellow cooler bag and give you a glove and small ice pack to keep your hands clean and your pastries chilled. They don't have any seating. Just grab the pastries you want, pay and get out. We went to the New World Mall food court to try out the goods. Overall, great tasting pastries but they're kinda expensive. You could easily get carried away adding things to your tray and drop $25-30. Didn't really interact with employees too much but they were fast and very efficient. I would definitely come back, but my hope they'll make their way to the Bay one day!
Wow, I have seen Bao's Pastry before on social media however never truly bothered to bat an eye at the sight of this shop since I'm a loyalist to 85C. Because it was our first time, we were a bit conservative and probably should've went HAM on taste testing- 1x Golden Portuguese Egg Tart 1x Lemon Crispy Floss Cake 1x Taro Egg Tart Everything is affordable and in line quality wise, while we came on a not so good weather day, it was still crowded in the shop. The egg tarts sadly were not that impressive and had the taste that I'm used to. The floss cake however was quite flavorful and filling, I think they're known more for this unique pastry. I can't wait to come back and try their other pastries-there is also an employee at the front of the line who helps with the ordering process to ensure things go smoothly and efficiently!
The butter mochi from Bao's Pastry is my new obsession - the crispy edges and chewy center make this one fun to eat, and the flavor is rich but some how feels light. It would be impossible to eat just one, so it's a good thing they only sell them as a bag of 6. Service is efficient - just wait in line near what you want, put it in your little shopping basket then take to the register to check out. This place was hopping at 7pm on a Thursday night - bright and buzzy shop!
The hype finally died down after a month...came here on a Sunday @ noon- no lines out the door & no wait to pay, which was great. The bakery was clean, bright, everything yellow with a glass-walled open kitchen, completely stocked with a variety of pre-packaged pastries & treats, the egg tarts are kept behind the glass counter & are box to order, and the staff was very friendly & efficient. We got some of their golden Portuguese & caramel croissant egg tarts, taro snow puffs, milk flavored taosu and the coffee crispy floss cakes & fluffy floss rolls. The egg tarts tasted ok- I definitely had better- the custard filling were overly wobbly & fell apart and the crusts weren't crispy but rather soft & soggy. Not a fan of the taro puffs- the cream tasted artificial & unappealing. The taosu (walnut crisp cookies) were buttery, mildly sweet & had a delicate, crumbly texture- their good, my daughter loved them. And the coffee floss cakes + floss rolls were really delicious- light, fluffy sponge cake with mayo cream filling & coated in lots of pork floss Mmm...sweet & savory goodness :p We'll be back for more.
Bao's Pastry is a popular bakery chain from Beijing, China, that has expanded all the way to Flushing. There was a pretty long line when we stopped by a couple Sunday afternoons ago, but it moved really quickly. Before we knew it, we were asked to make a quick decision about what we wanted. Between the four of us, we bought two each of the following: * Golden Portuguese Yolk Pastry * Velvet Taro Egg Tart * Oozing Lava Cheese Tart * Croissant Egg Tart Caramel Flavor My personal favorite was the Golden Portuguese Yolk Pastry, which was absolutely perfect. The custard was creamy with just the right amount of sweetness and egginess, while the crust was flaky and buttery. The Oozing Lava Cheese Tart was incredibly cheesy, almost more of a savory dessert. It was delicious and addictive, but also pretty heavy. The Croissant Egg Tart Caramel was a favorite among our group, but I fount it a little too sweet. Lastly, the Velvet Taro Egg Tart had an airy and fluffy taro custard, but the taro flavor itself was pretty weak. Compared to the other three, this was easily the least memorable. They're also known for their Signature Pork Floss Cakes, which I wish I'd remembered to try. While the pastries were a bit hit or miss, the ones that hit were truly incredible. I'd definitely come back to try some of their other pastries, especially the pork floss cake. 8/16/2026 Flushing Food Crawl #10 of 11
I can't say much about the interior or service because a friend brought these goodies over for dessert one day. Goodness, these little dessert items were so good. I finished off 3 Portuguese Egg tarts by myself. I love the eggy, creamy center. The crust was very flaky. The Xiao Bei Milk Cake Taro Flavour and original Milk Flavor were so soft and fluffy. They were subtlety sweet and fragrant. The pork floss flavor was unusual but if you grew up with it, it was nostalgic. The scones were crumbly and tasty. The cream puff was chewy and the filling creamy. Nothing was too sweet and the flavors really go well with the delicate textures.
A very busy store and open kitchen concept where you can watch them make the goodies. Did not care for the floss breads and it wasn't for me. The coffee flavor was not strong and tasted more like a savory mayo meat floss bread. The milk mochi pudding bites were delicious and a nice treat.
seaweed pork floss ($5) - this was so simple yet so delicious in an indescribable way because it's nothing fancy or phenomenal but it is the taste of childhood and familiarity of home - the pork floss wasn't excessive to a point where it's super dry; it was just right with the perfect amount of crunch - the ball itself felt like a fluffy light cake with some liquid sweetness in the middle; it tasted exactly like how my pork floss bread tasted rating: 4/5 - borderline 3 because you have to buy at least 2 for almost every item on the menu and it would always be too much that you wouldn't be able to finish in one sitting; didn't like the lack of flexibility there - also tried other items like the taro egg tart and mochi looking pastry both of which were just ok; taro egg tart was too heavy with the taro oozing out with barely any taste to it - mochi looking pastry was bland and tasted heavily of dairy - fast service despite long lines - wouldnt personally come back unless it's for the pork floss yay - ambiance is a typical asian bakery feel with organized line and system inside the store - very casual but streamlined factory vibe IG: @chae.nom.noms read more

Food: This is a well-known bakery from China offering many kinds of baked goods and pastries. The place is always packed with people. Some baked goods include Portuguese egg tarts, taro puff cake, pork floss items, mochi puddings, cookies, tarts, and much more. Items are a hit or miss. I've tried a good number of items and only really enjoyed 1-2 items, not the majority. The best item is the butter mochi in my opinion. The egg yolk pastry is also decent; it's very similar to an egg yolk mooncake with lotus seed paste inside. Everything else I've tried including the egg tarts, cookies, and taro puff cake wasn't too special or impressive. Service: Service was neither good nor bad; staff are there to restock bakery items and to ring up your items. Ambiance: The bakery is a good size with many items on display, but there is no seating. You buy your items and take it to go. The bakery is set up in a U formation where you enter on one side, make the loop in one line to see the items, and pay at the cashier right before you exit. Bakery is nice, well-lit, and kept clean. There are huge glass windows where you can see staff in the back baking and preparing the goods. Overall, I would recommend this bakery at least once! read more
Came here for a weekend evening and found a huge line on this pastry. I was very curious to see whats happening. I entered and bought couple of pastries. The egg custards were delicious, crunchy, and fresh. Loved them. Everything else was good, but the one that left the most impression was the custard. Will definitely come back again to this amazing place! : ) read more
This is a pretty legit operation. There's 10-15 workers churning out effort in the back, even after they close shop. We tried their taro tart, egg tart, and their seaweed ball things. Pretty solid and the favorite was the taro. Pricing like an Instagram item but the overall flavors are good. Interior is clean but the vibe is very rushed with the large traffic flow and in and out. read more

My sister told us about this takeout place which serves a nice variety of pastries. It was crowded when we went but my wife bought some chocolate pastry. I don't know the name of it, but WOW, I believe it was the best chocolate pastry I've ever tasted. I saw that my Yelper niece, who is more of a foodie than I am, gave this bakery 3 stars. Truth be told, I only tried this one item, but based on it, I'm compelled to give this eatery 5 stars for now. I can't wait to go back and try a bunch of other stuff. Highly recommended. read more
The last couple times we visited Flushing we kept seeing people with these distinctive bright yellow bags from Bao's Pastry. Finally on this last visit we decided to stop in to see what the hype was about. The store is small. You grab a basket and wait in line. You go through picking up whatever pastries you want and pay at the end. What we ordered: - Matcha Horn - Chocolate Horn - Golden Portuguese Egg Tart - Velvet Taro Egg Tart - Oozing Lava Cheese Tart - Caramel Croissant Egg Tart - Coffee Xiao Bei Crispy Floss Cake The Matcha Horn was a highlight and personally we liked all of the egg tarts except for the taro one. Definitely recommending this place and would go back. read more
This bakery was like a fine tuned machine. Through a glass window you could see at least 20 workers all dressed in white with masks and hair nets making fresh pastries. It was interesting to watch. A very popular place for sweets. Parking is difficult. I suggest you take a 7 subway or ride share. read more

Famous in China and they now got a store in Flushing Queens! There were constantly long lines for months since grand opening. There's still a queue but less crazy and it goes quick. The store is quite small and designed for you to grab and go. There are no seats. But interior is clean and they got a glass panel for you to see them operating in the back. We opted to try the fish floss sponge cakes, and these flakey pastries (not sure of the name), got matcha and chocolate. The sponge cakes were super light and the fish cake floss adds such a delicate flavor. Simple but addictive, the more you eat the stronger the taste gets. And the sponge cake is a nice thickness where it's super soft but you can still sink your teeth in. The flakey pastries are so good!!! Super flakey and it's filled with cream. It's so creamy and love how the chocolate on top goes so well with everything. It's strong in taste but not too much. Do take small bites as I can see it being too much if you take huge bites. Will come back and try other items! read more
We saw quite a few people carrying the bright yellow Bao's Pastry bags while roaming through Tangram Mall. We were reminded that it was the bakery that went viral a while ago. BTW, that's why companies give out tote bags as swags - a cheap and effective way for advertisement that apparently works! Supposedly its very first location in the US, this famous Beijing bakery (Bao Sifu) opened this Flushing location a few months ago in February and became an instant hit. Naturally it's the right stop to end the day's food crawl. It was on a Saturday, heck, it was the Memorial Day Weekend, but the line wasn't bad at all - only 7-8 people in line outside the store. OK, it was rainy and cold but maybe the fad had dissipated after all these month. Lucky for us! The store's setup streamlined well. The line went inside the store, and after you paid on your way out, you're at the door. People said you can watch the entire pastry making process. They lied. The line kept moving. The truth is you could only get a glimpse before you have to move on or you get yelled lol. This place kind of reminded me of Din Tai Fung - behind the glass panels were 20 some staff, diligently doing their part of the pastry making assembly. We got their famous signature Seaweed Crispy Floss Cake (Xiao Bei, meaning "small shell"). It's a must-try because it's so unique: a light, fluffy sponge cake on the inside, filled with mayonnaise cream, and coated in a savory mixture of pork floss and seaweed shavings. The taste is interesting in a great way, perfectly balancing sweet with savory, and crunchiness with fluffiness. It is very messy to eat, however! I'd recommend eating it with a fork at a table so you can salvage all the pork floss and seaweed that falls off lol. I give it extra star for the innovativeness, professionalism, and fair pricing for the novelty one receives. read more

I've eaten some of the pastries before, and they've all been yummy. The Lava custard mooncakes were sold as a 2-pc set ($6) and had the company's name embossed on it. It's small, semi-soft, and has a runny yet thick center. You get a wet wipe and small spoon in the takeout bag. read more
This place was amazing! It's always bustling, and after seeing so many people carrying their bags around town, I had to see what the hype was about. It definitely didn't disappoint! The tart was fantastic, though I was way too full to try anything else. I'll for sure be back! read more
I have to admit that my expectations were unrealistically high, after seeing all the social media hype. The problem with all the social media hype is, your expectations are heightened...sometimes disappointingly so. So take your expectations down a notch, and you will love Bao's Pastry! I happened to be passing by on an early Sunday evening. Shockingly, there was no line, so we just had to take advantage of this! It was still very crowded, with a steady flow of customers but there was no line to get in. Yayyy! As everyone has reported, the interior of the bakery is U-shaped, so just follow the line, and the line will run smoothly. Pickup items along the showcases. You can order specific tarts at the window, but otherwise, just keep going. Before you know it, you end up at the cash registers. Items are a little pricey for what it is. We picked up these items: -- Coffee Pork Floss Cakes: I didn't love it but then again, I didn't hate it either. (The mayo threw me off). lol -- Golden Egg Yolk Pastry: maybe it's just me, but it didn't really taste like egg yolk to me. And it was extremely dry. You definitely need a beverage with this pastry. -- Egg Tarts (original): the original tart is great! Sometimes simplicity wins! -- Egg Tarts (caramel): although I'm generally not a fan of caramel, this tart was really good! I would get this again. -- Egg Tarts (cream cheese): warning, there is no egg custard in this cheese tart. It's more of a tart shell filled with cream cheese. If you like cream cheese, you'll love this one. Me, not a fan. lol I wasn't able to try the tarts that I was interested in (tiramisu tart, Ube tart, taro cake, matcha cake) because on this early Sunday evening, alot of their products seemed to be sold out. But I'll look for these tarts in my next visit. Great Portuguese Egg Tarts!! read more
Def a bit on the pricier side, but has a lot of potential of being even more delicious if you get it fresh from the oven. I ordered the caramel croissant tart, lava cheese tart, tiramisu tart, and golden portuguese egg tart. Caramel croissant -- i rlly liked this, it's sweet and creamy almost reminds me of creme brulee without the torched caramel Lava cheese tart -- can def taste the cheese, but also very creamy and a bit runny Tiramisu tart -- least fav, has a base of egg tart with a piece of coffee soaked ladyfinger and tiramisu cream. Personally felt there was too much going on and couldnt taste the egg tart, just tiramisu Portuguese tart -- my mom and aunts fav; not as sweet and more aromatic than the others The crust was very flaky and crunchy, personally rlly liked it! It can get pretty packed in there, and the staff can be a bit rushed at the register. Can't justify going here too often but once in a while it'd be a nice sweet treat!! read more
Went to flushing today and noticed this bakery. Upon entering, there is a nice all around viewing of all the pastries being made. We had to try out the different types of tarts, egg tart and taro. We also tried a matcha and chocolate filled dessert. We just grabbed what we wanted and went to the counter to pay. It was packed with people inside and the interior wasn't too big, but the lines moved pretty quickly. From all the ones we tried, they were all delicious. The prices are a bit high for the area, but I guess with freshness comes increases cost. read more

In February 2026, Bao's Pastry, a viral Chinese pastry shop, opened their first US location in Flushing. When Bao's Pastry first opened, the lines were crazy long so I've been waiting for the hype to die down a bit. The first time I visited Bao's Pastry in March, I had to wait just 10 minutes. Though after trying their pastries, I completely understand why people line up. Bao's Pastry freshly bakes floss cakes, egg tarts, snow puff cakes, butter mochi, and milk-flavored Taosu cookies. Everything is made and baked in-store and there are open-view kitchens. Bao's Pastry was founded by Mr. Bao Caisheng in 2004 in Beijing under the name "Bao Zai Pastry House." The brand was officially renamed "Bao's Pastry" in 2005. The store is not that big and the lines move. My favorite is the Oozing Lava Cheese Tart ($4.00). The shell is buttery and the cheese is so rich. It's absolutely amazing and a must try! I've had the snow puff cake taro flavor ($6.00), velvet taro egg tart ($3.00), golden Portuguese egg tart ($2.00), coffee crispy floss cake ($5.00), and milk and raisin tiny pastry ($9.00). The snow puff cake was very soft and the taro had good flavor. In my opinion, nothing compares to the richness and taste of the Oozing Lava Cheese Tart. At checkout, they even give you disposable plastic glove and cutlery for you to enjoy the pastries. After my first time coming to Bao's Pastry, I've been a few additional times just to get the Oozing Lava Cheese Tart. There are still lines, but it is definitely worth waiting in and it moves fast. You have to try Bao's Pastry! read more

The line looks long but it moves quickly. Once you get inside you can shop around on a line and pick up whatever you want to put into the basket. When you get to the egg tart counter is when you can order the fresh egg tarts. Then you proceed to pay. They have an open concept so you can see all the pastries chefs doing their thing. The golden Portuguese egg tart $2 was really good. Flaky on the outside and warm and eggy in the inside. The taste was on point. The seaweed crispy floss cake ($5 for two) wasn't for me. I like the exterior a lot, but it didn't need that mayo inside imo. It was overpowering and overwhelming. The sponge cake was really soft. I would come back and try other stuff. read more
I came here on a Monday morning and the line was short (for once!) so I had to walk in. Indoor has all their pastries laid out. You can also see ladies making more in the back! You can pick out what you want and pay at the front. There is no seating. We got a taro custard tart and a regular egg tart. The taro custard tart outshined the egg tart 10x. The egg tart was good, but similar items can be found anywhere. The taro one though was delicious and so special! read more

Bao's Pastry is really busy! We waited in line on a Friday and left with several selections. I chose the caramel egg tart. It was fresh and delicious. The crust was flaky. My eleven year old friend loved the taro balls. Great place! read more
