A group of us met at this cute little restaurant before heading out to tour the Stetson Mansion. We were all mesmerized by the quaint atmosphere of the BakeChop. We opted to sit at the bar. From this location we had a great view of the staff preparing the meals for us and other guests in the restaurant. The kitchen is small but the 3 cooks moved about like they were being lead by a professional conductor presenting the most perfect rendition of The Nutcracker. Although we all enjoyed watching the meals being made, it did make for a hard decision when it came time to order. When our meals were presented, they looked and tasted wonderful. I ordered the plantains and found them to be the sweetest I had ever eaten. Of course we each had samples of others dishes in our group. That's the best part of having friends join you in a restaurant. Our waitress Shayna was also very attentive to our needs and answered our questions with ease. This was almost a 2 hour drive for some in our group and we found the whole experience to be well worth the trip. We will definitely be back to the BakeChop with another group of friends in the New Year! read more

First visit. Found it by accident while wandering. Arrived at 1230 and it was crowded which I thought was a good sign. The food on the table of other patrons looked great. We had the special which was the Tomato Quiche with a small side salad. The quiche was very flavorful and the crust was excellent. The greens in the salad were very fresh. People exiting the restaurant ( we were seated outside) universally had great things to say about the food. My only my complaint would be about the service. It was slow ( but they were crowded), the glass of wine I ordered never came and the waitress who said she would be right back with my water refill, forgot to come back. I will definitely return and try other items on the menu. With a little more experience, the wait staff should improve. read more

My husband and I dined here last night with our 15 month old. This place itself is super cute and stylish. The food was delicious and I can't wait to come back and try more. Everything sounded tasty with such a unique/creative flair. We didn't see a kids menu, but the server offered a grilled cheese- which was perfect. The service was great and the banana cream pudding was a hit, as well. My only gripe was that it was rather warm in there and wonder what it would be like on a summer day. I say that, but I would sit there and sweat through my food and dessert. You gotta have dessert if you go there. read more

This is becoming my go to place in DeLand. My wife and I can split an entree and and each get a soup or app and be content. The BLT is amazing and if you see the French onion soup it is one of the best I have tried. They have a good selection of local beers and a nice wine menu. I was looking forward to trying this new eatery in downtown Deland. Finally made it in for breakfast this past weekend. After eating here, I am not totally convinced it is worth another visit. There is definitely some good and bad feedback to provide to the new owners. The GOOD: The breakfast skillet(s)that my husband and I had was pretty good. Very tasty and just a bit shy of excellent. Our food came rather quickly, which was surprising considering how the rest of the floor was running. The space itself is quite charming but a little loud. The baked goods we sampled (cinnamon roll and cupcake) were nice looking and were fair. A bit overpriced for the quality. These baked goods were priced at or above what one would expect to pay at Blue Bird Bake Shop or Mills 50. - 4 and 5 dollars respectively. I firmly believe if you charge that much, you should definitely bring it. We also had coffee and cappuccino, which were fair. Overall, breakfast was right at 36 dollars + tip. You can decide if that is expensive or not. For a "scratch" kitchen, I find it to be the norm but I can imagine, high for the area. The BAD: I just don't even know where to start. The whole front end part of the business is just a mess. On the day we were there, we witnessed another table asked to move to make room for a larger table. Also, the place was not full and they just stopped seating people. Started telling folks it would be 30 minutes wait. People would leave and others would come in a get sat. We witnessed this weirdness at Dally a few times. I just don't understand it. Even though they were busy, we got our food quickly; the kitchen was on top of it. We knew all of this was going on because the place is so small and loud, you literally can hear everything. Also, no one seems to know what job they are responsible for. The servers were seating , taking orders , working the coffee machine and getting baked goods. Then wiping tables down... only to handle food again!!! Yuck. And because of this and room size, they literally fall over each other. My husband never got his coffee and our server was generally bad. It might have been because of this. If he owners read this ... Please listen to this advice.: Plan out the roles of the front end staff. Maybe tip sharing is in order considering the size. Have dedicated staff to handle coffee drinks, this itself is a ton of work, and baked goods. Based on the number of employees we saw working, the staff size is there and a good front manager should be able to get a small place like that under control quickly. If not, the business will suffer. I will probably give this place another try. I think that it has potential to be a destination food location downtown if they get the service issues worked out. read more

We visited on a rainy Friday during the Farmers Market. The service was excellent and the food was simply delightful. It's a small made to order kitchen so if you don't have time to wait for quality, made to order food don't bother. The special appetizer was a cauliflower torte which was excellent! Really good food. I had a burger and fries and my husband had the venison with onion rings. We shared the blueberry crumble for dessert. Great flavors and textures. Each item we had was simple, but had some uniqueness. Our server was very nice. All the staff were friendly. Cool location. It was a very busy night because of a festival, so the food took a little longer than we expected. But you could tell everyone was working very hard. Been here twice since moving to DeLand. Both times were great. Food is awesome. Menu is so diverse it's really hard to choose. It's great for vegetarians or cheatatarians, like us. I've been here twice and both times the food was amazing. The service is awesome and the servers are hilarious and fun and friendly. The restaurant has limited seating, and the central tables can be a bit difficult to maneuver around to go to the restroom or get back to your seat when the place is busy. I recommend going on the early side so you can snag one of the smaller tables and not the big benches in the middle, which are sat family-style, so you may end up sharing your table with another group. It's a casual spot, so you don't have to worry about dressing up to go. This is the place to go for the best burgers in Deland, one of the best burgers I've EVER had is the Left-Hander on their menu. DELICIOUS! For the desserts, their options are limited and change frequently. The buckeye pie was fantastic last time I went, but it sold out quickly so a lot of the tables that came in after us didn't get the option to try it. The fries here are really good as well, I am not sure what their dipping sauce for the fries is but it is addictive! Even if it is packed, the food here is way worth the wait. read more

They have options to satisfy your burger craving or something lighter, depending on your mood that day. The atmosphere is wonderful and fun. We had a blast sitting at the family style table one night. There breakfast menu is excellent! We have had several pastries and many croissants and they are absolutely amazing. There cappuccino is by far the best cup I have EVER had in Deland. They get their grinds from local Trilogy as well which is awesome. I definitely encourage you to come try BakeChop!
